Shinwari resigns as Afghanistan board chief executive

Hamid Shinwari has resigned as the CEO of Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB). His resignation comes days after Omar Zakhilwal stepped down as the ACB chairman due to his commitments as the country's minister of finance, and the appointment of Shahzada Massoud to take his place.

Shinwari, who was appointed ACB's chief in 2010, served for two years, with a study leave in Australia in 2011 between his two stints.

"My resignation comes after the recent resignation of Dr Omar Zakhilwal," Shinwari said. "Along with President Karzai's subsequent appointment of Mr Shazada Massoud as the new Chairman who has said he will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the ACB. These changes led me to see that my abilities and commitment to Afghanistan could be best used somewhere else. In addition, I have recently had a number of interesting job offers and I wish now take some leave to consider these."

ACB reshuffled its staff in April when, in an effort to effect better cricket administration and leadership, Shinwari was reappointed as ACB's CEO after his study break. Nasimullah Danish continues to serve as the deputy CEO.
