Afghanistan have called up an uncapped Najeeb Tarakai in place of Afsar Zazai to boost their batting for the World Twenty20. The flamboyant wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Shahzad will continue to open the innings for Afghanistan and Tarakai will be expected to add more power to the top order.

Afghanistan also announced the squad for their maiden Asia Cup appearance. Noor Ali Zadran, who had been withdrawn from the World Twenty20 qualifier due to an injury and was left out of the World T20 squad, has been included for the Asia Cup. Allrounder Fazal Niazai has been rewarded with a call-up to the ODI team after recent consistent performances for the Afghanistan A team.

Heading into their third World T20, Afghanistan, who had finished second in the tournament qualifier last year, are slotted in Group A and will compete with Bangladesh, Hong Kong and Nepal for a spot in the final-ten stage. The team has been in Sri Lanka for the last month for a conditioning camp and will fly to Bangladesh for the Asia Cup, which is scheduled to begin on February 25. Afghanistan will start their World T20 campaign with a match against Bangladesh on March 16, the first game of the tournament.

This is a country of tough and talented young men. I wish they would tie up with the BCCI to have their better players play in India for some of the Ranji teams. I am sure they will make a mark because they look very good but for the required exposure. In any case India and Afghanistan have always been very close. They will be most comfortable in India.

No point, Afghanistan needs to start playing tests and boards need to arrange more test matches against top team to improve

Gulbadin Naib is a hard hitter player but not a game winner or like Karim Sediq opener batsman plus he is young, he cracks under pressure where Karim Sediq is a much more experienced player and also he is a good bowler with a very good economy rate that is why he is being selected to be in team instead of Gulbadin Naib. Don't take me wring Gulbadin Naib is an excellent player but not an opener batsman. You win the game with your most experience players especially against teams like Pakistan, India and etc. As far as Shaidi goes he is my favorite u19 player and I think ACB should give him a chance to play in national team.

ACB should give chance to Hashmatullah shahidi he good player one days he should be in Asia cup

Posted by   on (February 18, 2014, 13:10 GMT)

Like many Afghan cricket fans stated it, there is no logic for ACB to exclude Gullbadin Naib out the squad. Also I am excited about giving chances to some new comers, like Fazil Niazai & Najib Taraki. One recommendation to ACB, As you have seen many Afghan Cricket Fans suggested, it is time for Karim Sadiq to say good by to the National squad & have him do something else for ACB. Cause, I have not seen him performed & he does not deserve to claim Gullbadin Naib's or some else place. Thanks

Allah bless you team afghanistan for both squad

well i really want to see naib in Asia cup he is one of our best batsmen he deserved to be in squad for Asia cup i hope he will be selected by ACB soon ,,

Posted by   on (February 18, 2014, 11:57 GMT)

ACB need replace karim sadiq and give chance to other player or gulbadeen in Asia cup

Posted by   on (February 18, 2014, 11:57 GMT)

I some how agree with the selection of the players but The selector should give the opportunity to the youngster because Afghanistan cricket has a bright future. All the best,

Its very sad that Gulbadin naib and hashmatullah shaidi are not included in upcomming asia cup,, they are much talented and they are performing nicely in recent days,,

Posted by   on (February 18, 2014, 10:16 GMT)

Agree with my Afghan brothers over inclusion of Gulbuddin Naib and Hashmatullah Shaheedi into the squad replacing with Karim Sadiq and Nawroz Mangal.

Posted by   on (February 18, 2014, 10:12 GMT)

This is a good combination of talent and experienced which is good but there has be Naib because he has much experience of bangladeh pitches and he has proven himself . Now it is up to the team management and players that how they deliver and i also request ICC that they have to support ACB and give them more matches and also look at their domestic cricket closely and monitor their progress. Afghanistan will be world champion in next 10 to 20 years. Best of luck

We want to from ACB to give chance for Gul badin naib in Asia Cup, I don't now why ACB close there eyes we all now that gul badin naib one of the right hand of Afghanistan team but ACB miss ham from Asia Cup. we are hopefully want to from ACB to give a chance for Naib.

Posted by   on (February 18, 2014, 8:44 GMT)

Gulbadin Naib should be in the Asia Cup Squad, reasons. He proved dt he can play in pressure He have good experience of Bangladesh pitches He cld shaheen shah of sixes in Bangladesh If he ply the Asia cup he will improve his strength for T20 World cup which will be played on same pitches He is the best in all the Depts( Bowling, Batting and fielding)

Posted by HafeezAhmadRoman on (February 18, 2014, 7:49 GMT)

Afghan cricket board must look for talent not for relationship we have good all rounder Naib we have to uncapped him instate of naworz in Asia Cup and world T20 2014

Posted by   on (February 18, 2014, 7:46 GMT)

i think it just wasting time there are 3 players they don,t deserve to play cricket for afghnistan they are nowruz, karim, merwes asraf.I think they should be fair and give chance too youngsters we know we have very talented youngsters players they far better they that 3 players and I personally think afghan cricket wont improve till they they not give chance to youngster ,,,,they should go and do something different for afghan cricket like maybe coaching

Posted by   on (February 18, 2014, 7:18 GMT)

Karim Sadiq Worth Nothing and the Selector shouldn't select based on the forecasts, Gulbadin Naib has proven that he can play in preasure and he is comfortable in any position and also he can play any kind of the bowlers (Spin, Seem). While Karim is okey in playing seem but he cant play the spin at all. I really don't know the decasion of droping Gulbadin was made based on what.

Posted by R.Zwak on (February 18, 2014, 6:25 GMT)

If Hashmatullah Shaidi and Gulbudin were included, the batting side could get more stronger. have the selectors givem chance to noor ali to check him. wasnt he unfit?

Posted by   on (February 18, 2014, 6:24 GMT)

ACB need replace karim sadiq and give chance to other player or gulbadeen in Asia cup

Posted by   on (February 18, 2014, 6:20 GMT)

Babo G @ R.Zwak.

Dear Zwak he is already in T20 Squad but be recalled for Aisa cup.

Posted by R.Zwak on (February 18, 2014, 6:01 GMT)

Gulbudin Naib is a talented allrounder. He should be called up for T20 World cup at least. The selectors are really unfair to him. Karim and Mangal have done much for Afg, but now they had better let it to yougsters.

Posted by   on (February 18, 2014, 5:23 GMT)

ACB I don't know why you didn't select Gul Buddin Naib in the 50 over games I hope that you have a good reason for it otherwise it is not fair you better know that he played really well in Bangladesh domestic cricket any why good luck and hopefully we can win couple games against full member just like your under 19 team so keep up the good work and bring us happiness Inshallah

Posted by   on (February 18, 2014, 5:20 GMT)

Gulbudin Naib should be picked up for Asia Cup he is a wonderful and talented player he can smash the ball over the boundary and stays up on the wicket so this is very unfair with Gulbudin.

Posted by   on (February 18, 2014, 5:12 GMT)

bad to see gulbadin out of the ODI squad actually is made for the ODI cricket

Posted by Younas126 on (February 18, 2014, 4:26 GMT)

Excellent Selection! In Sha Allah Afghanistan will play very well.

Posted by   on (February 18, 2014, 4:25 GMT)

If you look it Nawroz Age i am 100% sure he is more than 40 years old.

Posted by 0782224536 on (February 18, 2014, 4:17 GMT)

best squad for both Tournaments which includes Asia Cup 2014 and world T20 2014 both of the tournament will played by the host of Bangladesh we hope our team will be have a positive achievement for the country iIn Sha Allah we can beat Bangladesh all full members still time to go wish best luck for the future Mohammad Kamal Sherzad

Posted by   on (February 18, 2014, 4:12 GMT)

I hate to say that Afghan selector does not know anything abut conditions, when a player is playing good they drop him from the squad and when he is not performing he will be selected. I would love to see Naib in squad, though nowadays the selectors have an easy excuse.

Posted by   on (February 18, 2014, 4:09 GMT)

I don't know why selectors always believe in Nawroz Mangal and Karim they are nothing they don't deserve to be in playing 11. Nawroz plays cross shots like child playing with tennis ball.

Posted by   on (February 18, 2014, 2:05 GMT)

afg selectors have been very unfair with gulbudin. he is the most complete batsman in afg team and yet he is strugling to get his spot in national team. he is better than most senior players.

Posted by   on (February 17, 2014, 23:00 GMT)

Why is Hashmatullah shaidi not picked. he has made runs consistently in u19 , has a good technique and is talented. With his technique, he is well suited on Australian and New Zealand bouncy pitches.

Posted by   on (February 17, 2014, 21:30 GMT)

I love Afghanistan alot Allah bless afghan team in every kind of cricket at international level because all the world knows that Afghanistan is a third quality people having country but the facts are something else, all the drama is proceeded by afghan genocide afghan neighbors countries...

Posted by   on (February 17, 2014, 17:43 GMT)

Seeing Gulbuddin recent performances in Bangladesh domestic league, and used to BD conditions he deserves the place in Asia cup squad.

Posted by Azooz-Afgfan on (February 17, 2014, 16:58 GMT)

Everybody was shocked not seeing Gulbadin Naib in Asia cup's squad. Gulbadin'e average in DPL was 200 and was already used to the conditions in Bangladesh was excluded from the squad.
