India may have crossed their first hurdle towards reaching the final of the Asia Cup by beating one of their stronger opponents in their opening match, but concerns over their bowling, especially the fast bowing, remain.

In Vinay Kumar, Irfan Pathan and Praveen Kumar, they have three bowlers who bowl at a pretty similar, unthreatening pace. All of them prefer operating with the new ball, banking on any early movement on offer, and are far less comfortable bowling at the death. Praveen has not been at his best since his rib injury, Irfan isn't bowling those magic balls that earned him a die-hard legion of fans, while Vinay isn't the type of bowler who will give international teams sleepless nights.

Mushfiqur Rahim, Bangladesh's captain, knows where India's weak link lies. "Their bowling attack seems less stronger than Pakistan's or Sri Lanka's, that's what I feel personally," he said. "This is what is giving us confidence against India."

The statement comes on the day that Joe Dawes, India's new bowling coach, got his first chance to get a close-up look at his charges. Linking up with the Indian squad for the first time since his appointment last month, he supervised a three-hour training session on Thursday morning.

While Dawes will ponder how to improve the Indian bowling, Mushfiqur and Bangladesh have to come up with a plan to contain the Indian batting, which showed against Sri Lanka just how good they can be in familiar conditions. "It is quite difficult to bowl against their batting line-up," Mushfiqur said. "But at the same time, a good ball is enough for a batsman if it's his bad day. If we can capitalise on it and make them commit mistakes by bowling to their weakness, it would work."

Mushfiqur said Bangladesh's first target was to consistently challenge the top teams. "More than just winning a game, it is important for us to play against big teams confidently, fight against them. This will help us grow and win. We lost the first game by going close, but we don't do this on a regular basis, so we tend to forget what to do in such situations when faced with it." This is their 10th Asia Cup campaign, a competition in which they are yet to post a victory against Test opposition. Unless Bangladesh capitalise on India's weakness and end that streak on Friday, they will be facing another early elimination.

Well I was reading the comments regarding Mushfiqur's speech. A lot of Indian Fans were criticizing his comment as well as made some unprofessional comment. I just wanna say that please don't take any team lightly even USA. Because you can't conclude till the last ball of the match. It happened that 6 required from the last ball and a SIX was hit. However, being the World Champ, team India is not as consistent as Australia. Lack of consistency and strategic game plan is the outcome of Bangladesh vs India match from India's point of view. On the other hand, now Bangladesh is undoubtedly a threat for any team. So never underestimate your opponent, otherwise it may cause severe backfire where greatest achievement may get ruined.

If Mushfiq is a 'kid' then how about this?

1. A kid has spoiled the greatest celebration in the history of Indian cricket 2. A kid has defeated the most successful indian captain in every aspect of the game. 3. A kid was praised by the greatest indian legend in press conference on his day for which india has waited 22 years. 4. A kid wins the game against 12 indian chosen out from 100 million.

If a bangladeshi 'Kid' can do this to you...then imagine what will happen when thousand other mushfiq will grow next!

indian bowling line up is pretty ordinary and B. Schweg is also prettty ordinary player that he is also afraid to play aganinst bd.

i wish this asia cup have previous tournaments fixtures.... with 6/8 teams and afganistan, nepal, hong kong would also be given chance... then afgans also had a chance of winning with the so called MIGHTY INDIANS(actually after 100yrs in cricket who is still weak in bouncy wicket but great in batting pitch now even they lose in batting pitches too who is always a tiger only in home but in abroad a cat).... with money and power in ICC... blessed with no DRS and Umpires sympathy one can go furthur but not too much...

Posted by   on (March 17, 2012, 7:31 GMT) guys live in a big country while having such a small heart that you don't want to give credit the bd boys who have played thousand times better than your team r thinking that your bowlers have bowled's not the fact..... our batsman give your bowler the pressure which has made Indian bowlers bowled badly ....however, we live in a small country although we do not have mean heart...Congratulations to Sachin tendulkar for historic contribution in cricket....

Where was Shakib when Sachin scored the century. He was just behind busy picking up the ball and getting ready to deliver the next one. Shakib didn't even bother to congratulate Sachin because he knows very well if he can stay in the game for 22 years, he can well score 200 centuries! That's the spirit!

Posted by   on (March 17, 2012, 5:43 GMT)

Mushfiq should be congratulated for making the words into action! We want all BD player will remain their action like this...shame on India...BD team thought you a gud lessons indeed! Rock BD team rocks!

Minimum 30 runs short for India because of Sachin who wasted min. 33 balls if he can score run-a-ball 100! moreover the death overs again a nightmare for the Indian team. Needs improvement against Pak.

greediness to achieve 100th 100 did cost india the was too slow innings on a good batting pitch

Posted by   on (March 16, 2012, 20:05 GMT)

Nothing like answering critics with a good solid performance. No doubt India boasts the best batting unit for almost any condition but at the same time they have perhaps the weakest bowling unit currently in world cricket. Mushfiq was right!!

Posted by   on (March 16, 2012, 19:19 GMT)

My sympathy to Indian fans. They can not celebrate even the great man's 100th 100 now.

Posted by sponcomb on (March 16, 2012, 18:25 GMT)

This is amazing the curse of 100th hundred hunt down India. Whats the point of celebrating an individual effort when you lose the match. Its not worth an individual effort if we are always on the losing side.

Another interesting stats To put things in perspective, and without taking anything away from this achievement, SRT has played 149 ODIs outside Asia against the other Top8 Test playing nations. And he scored only 6 centuries in those matches.

all of you who commented about Bangladesh. please see the scorecard now. I think you all wanna change what you have said :)

Mushfiq was right. India's bowling attack is one of the weakest now. So tigers could roar easily.

Posted by Bangla.tiger on (March 16, 2012, 17:49 GMT)

Pls dont say its a upset. Bangladesh is able to beat any country.

Posted by NP_NY on (March 16, 2012, 17:47 GMT)

Congratulations to BD for a fighting win! As an Indian fan, I am disappointed but India needed a good kick in the back. This match clearly exposes the fact that India cannot be sure of defending anything under 300 even against a team like BD. The batsmen alone cannot keep winning matches for India. They have to get some fresh blood in, in the bowling department otherwise, this could continue to get very embarassing for India.

Posted by   on (March 16, 2012, 17:45 GMT)

All the close decisions in this match went for India and still India lost. On hindsight Rahim had done his homework correctly.

Posted by couchpundit on (March 16, 2012, 17:44 GMT)

ROFL ---- Sachin's another centruy (114 scored in 17 balls against mighty Bangladesh in tough batting conditions) GREAT JOB SACHIN..... I wonder how long will this tirade continue.

Who cares if India Wins or not, YOUR GOD SCORED TON of TON's. Shame on you.

But kudos Bangladesh, well played.

Mushfiqur, who had said yesterday that India's thin bowling unit gave Bangladesh confidence, slammed 46 off 25 as Bangladesh won with four deliveries left..... To all my Indian Buds..

@-chapathishot, Abi Prathi, Bangladesh did not play against India Women XI..Yes, they played against your mighty team, what all the names-Sachin, Virat, Raina, Dhoni.....but all are in vain.....!!!!This is cricket that India must understand..When tigers roar, no one remains unbeatable.Proved in 2007 world cup also in Asia Cup 2012..See how Sakid, Tamim & Mushfiq again compelled India to lay down heads..Now think how you can reach the final.......

unimportant milestones, media hype, lack of talented bowler, complacency cost India match.

Posted by   on (March 16, 2012, 17:01 GMT)

I am an Indian cricket fan and I am watching cricket in India from 1984. In the last 28 years I saw India losing to Bangladesh 2 times in very important matches and I also saw Kenya also beat India. I am really disappointed all the 3 teams. I felt very sad and next day I keep on telling myself India will never lose to them again. I remember a story like mine. 2 friends walking saw a movie poster. The poster has the image of a movie hero falling of the horse. One friend said to other how can a hero fell of the horse and it's not possible. The second friend said the hero did fell off and first friend don't like it and he made a bet with his friend and they watched the movie. In deed the hero fell off the horse and when the loser tried to gave money he lost to the winner, winner said I already saw the movie earlier so don't worry about the bet. But the loser said I also saw the movie but I thought since he is a hero I assumed he will never fall of the horse again and I am that loser here.

I agree that Mushfiq is honest in his opinion which may seem a touch of arrogance. But what about the arrogant comments made by the Indian Supporter. Where are they hiding after the loss?

Posted by TuhinFarheen on (March 16, 2012, 16:56 GMT)

Really delighted to see Bangla marching past the Indians. Though Sachin reahced his milestone, his 'slower than usual' strike rate hurt India at the end.

Posted by El_Toro_Loco on (March 16, 2012, 16:55 GMT)

BANGLADESH WIN!!!! It was a great match and with 290 chase I bet the Indian fans thought it was a done deal and Bangladesh would lose ... Wrong... Today Bangladesh showed a true fighting spirit that has been absent. They wanted it and when they saw blood they truly became tigers! Don't worry India don't feel too insecure you still are the better team (although I think your media will tear the team to pieces!) but your weakness have been highlighted.

Well Done Bangladesh you played really well.....Now Mr. Dhoni we have paid the terrible price because of your adamance for giving chances to players like Jadeja, Dinda and praveen kumar, are you satisfied. Do you even now consider of giving chances to players like Tiwary, Yousuf Pathan. Ashok Dinda is the worst bowler I have ever seen, he dont have pace, swing or anything as the matter of fact he does not deserve to play even the first class cricket. If this is the best bowler that India has currently than even God cannot save Indian cricket.....

Koodos to Bangla team; well played and well deserved... They should have win the Pak game as well because in the end they played better Cricket but went unlucky.. Koodos to Sachin for making a record....

Guys I guess Shoaib Akhtar was right in his book saying that Sachin and Dravid always play for themselves instead for country; today's example is perfect that his century gone in the drain; what is the use of century when you don't win for country..but again Sachin good job and time to retire buddy with respect... cheers

Now its time for india to get good bowler in the team... and Media, please leave sachins retirement aside, he is doing good... Focus on highlighting the bowling side who cant even defend a total like 289... always sachin is not responsible for win or loss of indian team... other ten player are also paid for their job...the top bowler gets hit for sixes in the final over ... it is not possible for the batsmens to get a total of 300 plus in every match ..u need to learn good bowling in critical contions

Posted by shahzaibq on (March 16, 2012, 16:06 GMT)

Rahim just showed what he's made of!!! Walk the walk Rahim!!! Be proud! For all the Indians saying their bowling attack is good enough, remember Shakib's flighted deliveries are quicker than Vinay's fastest yorkers!!! And the Indians should get ready to relinquish any rankings they have in 2014... Well played BCCI, but very short-sighted of you to only plan for two years! Reflects very well on the cricket team's performances... Good in the shorter formats, hopeless otherwise!

So my worst fears have come true. Sachin getting a century and India loosing a game, even Bangladesh. So now this match will not be remembered for sachin's 100th ton, but will be remembered for india loosing for the selfish batting of SRT and Virat (both chasing thier personal milestones). Virat was chasing his 3rd ton in a row, to be levels with Z.Abbas, S.Anwar, Lara, Dveliers etc. and Sachin was chasing his 100th. Also i should mention here that Virat should have been given lbw on the very first ball he faced. inspite of this huge blow of luck Bangladesh won. Congratulations to Bangladesh.

Even the Pakistanis are playing it that way which I think is fantastic. This has been the most calm Pakistani side I have seen in a long time. Perhaps thats the reason for their success?

@OmarAbbad, ur preditions will come true only if bangladesh MEN's teams plays with Indian Women's team...

Posted by on (March 16, 2012, 6:20 GMT)

Bharat Mata, the world champs, will win the asia cup for sure because the tournament is in the subcontinent. They wont be able to defend their title in the next world cup because it will be in Australia. Sorry Bharat mates, your batsman's are good but only on your soil dada, and your bowlers...hahahah.

Posted by linuxer6 on (March 16, 2012, 6:19 GMT)

@pmbasu: Then why don't you ask your aussy, england, SA, NZ teams to roar in india??? Are they become dumb in india. Every team is strong in home weak at away. it applies for all .

Posted by sm.likhon on (March 16, 2012, 6:13 GMT)

Today Bangladesh will give their 100 percentage to beat India be careful...

Posted by sm.likhon on (March 16, 2012, 6:10 GMT)

Bangladesh will make hard for indian blowing ..okkk

Posted by fearless69 on (March 16, 2012, 6:01 GMT)

Dreaming is good but Day Dreaming?? I feel pity on you in advance Rahim.. India will make you pay for your comments.. We often see many times a player of opposition targeting india's weakness before the match and India make them pay by performing extremely well against them.. Now get ready to see shinning stars on a bright sunny day.. LOL

Posted by   on (March 16, 2012, 5:51 GMT)

Best of luck for both the teams

Posted by   on (March 16, 2012, 5:46 GMT)

I think one should respect each others.Well india is world cup champion but remember they are not capable of doing good in Australia and England.they can do better in their soil but did not able to win a single test matches in Australia and England ...So keep your talk in your pocket and lets see what is going to happen. On the other hand see how Sachin will play as we know that he is a class act..Best of lucks for both the teams..............

Posted by pmbasu on (March 16, 2012, 5:40 GMT)

Hope this "un-patriotic" comment will be posted. Nice to see the India-team players and their fans overcome the recent attack of soar throat problem down under and start roaring again. Enjoy the next 2 years!

Guys do not forget to 2007WC when Ind lost to BD in the opening match. Never underestimate BD. They can come out of the blue & win.Ind should not be over confident on their batting. Singles are important to win the matches which gives the additional advantage. Boundary 4 or 6 is bonus. What you run insde the boundary is very very important. All the best guys. Let the best team win

Posted by Nipaos on (March 16, 2012, 4:36 GMT)

I guess India should forget their bowling and wish they get to bat 1st. Either Sachin/Kohli should target 200. Gambhir should target a steady 100 and Dhoni/Raina should look for 20 ball 65-70. India should target 450 here.

dont lough ...wait for some moment.Rahim u take good point

Posted by OmarAbbad on (March 16, 2012, 2:49 GMT)

If Bangladesh will bowled out under 200 then we will bowled out India under 150

My Team for today is 1.Gautham 2.Darling of the Mass 3. Virat 4. Manoj 5.Suresh 6.MS 7. Yusuf 8. Vinay. 9. Ashok 10.Irfan 11. Ash. MS also thinks in this way I believe

haha bangdesh "tigers" who said this...haha i hope India bat first n make a merry..other bnagla won't be able to play full qota

Posted by SantoshGhirnikar on (March 15, 2012, 19:52 GMT)

Why is Vinay Kumar playing? What happened to Varun Aaron? Manoj Tiwary should be given a chance instead of Rohit. Little Mushfiqur is in for a rude shock.

Posted by Bang_La on (March 15, 2012, 19:35 GMT)

@rakesh_1907 & @Arjun Siva, well, there maybe wistful thinking in Rahim's thoughts but we did not see any dasher in Indian team excepting once but have seen their butts strapped many times lately. Such dashing is also possible by Shafiul Islam, ask England!

Posted by mars2009 on (March 15, 2012, 19:08 GMT)

The total population of all cricketing nations except India is 487 million whereas India's population is 1,200+ million alone. Every sixth man on this planet is an Indian, even though they can't produce single world class fast bowler. I would recommend them to follow England's trait. Hire fast bowlers from outside India , Sri Lanka , Bangladesh , Pakistan even Afghanistan because India is not going to produce fast bowler. From now, for two years Indians team / fans will over moon. because they are not going to play outside subcontinent. Cheers!!

Posted by   on (March 15, 2012, 18:50 GMT)

bangladesh should look 4 5th bowler...and last match why nasir didn't bowling...and 1 more thing is that bangladesh should take another batsman or all-rounder...

Posted by UnHeroicMenace on (March 15, 2012, 18:49 GMT)

Thank god the indian team is not taking bangladesh as lightly as these guys are. If they did, bangladesh probably had some chance of beating india at home.

Posted by RishabJ on (March 15, 2012, 18:32 GMT)

When you see what W.I captain Darren Sammy told in 2011 World Cup that India's bowling is taken lightly and can score 400 easily and they didn't even touched the score of 200 ....

Posted by   on (March 15, 2012, 18:02 GMT)

best of luck mushfiqur Rahim, hope your team will prove that its true.

Mr.Rahim is talking as if his team had been vanquishing India consistently like India did to Sri Lanka. Well good luck with that! Our bowling attack may not be excellent but it was good enough against Sri Lanka. Its our batting lineup that will send shivers down the spine of any team in subcontinental conditions.

Posted by HeinekenBoy on (March 15, 2012, 17:38 GMT)

Bangladesh has a good chance again beating India today. Go Tigers Go!

Posted by   on (March 15, 2012, 17:30 GMT)

LOL Rahim. Keep dreaming mate.

Posted by   on (March 15, 2012, 17:30 GMT)

Irfan is Back.....(king of Swing) so Mr. Rahim take back your words... Yes... he will be threatening if he bowls with the new ball but he showed in last match he can take wickets with the old ball also....

Posted by   on (March 15, 2012, 17:23 GMT)

yeah..with this bowling attack, they have bowled out one team..

Posted by rockyyy on (March 15, 2012, 17:14 GMT)

its fate for indian cricket team at this moment!!!!! everyone will speak anything!!!!

Posted by ibbani on (March 15, 2012, 16:51 GMT)

I cant stop laughing. Someone please give a hand. I am on floor because of Rahim's joke. captain, just recollect your memories for WC opener, when India toyed your bowling to 375 and you guys were left with no stones unturned. This bowling attack is more than enough to take you guys out of Asia cup itself. India win tomorrow. It is India/Pak Final. Later again INDIA is ASIA CUP CHAMPIONS. Ohho somebody please give a good fight to this Mighty Indian team. :)

Posted by   on (March 15, 2012, 16:33 GMT)

200% correct india was never good in bowling department its just they are good in slow and low picth in subcontinent and thats how they won the world cup...

Posted by woodhaven on (March 15, 2012, 16:32 GMT)

india is an over rated team for sure. the way bd played against pakistan. they can beat india easily. cricket is a funny game, only win matters here

Posted by   on (March 15, 2012, 16:30 GMT)

good luck u school dragger rahim, bangladesh should be grateful that it is being considered a team after all by the ICC,tomorrow's gonna be the worst day for all the bangladesh cricketeers in their career. A very very simple job for India.India is good in spin and swing bowling. And its batting will be bangladesh's TNT blast for tomorrow's match.India will easily outplay bangladesh.India's gonna win man!.Even my school cricket team can defeat bangladesh LOL!

Posted by Nampally on (March 15, 2012, 16:17 GMT)

You are absolutely right when you say Vinay, Irfan & Parvin bowl in a similar manner. While Irfan & Vinay clock 130 KPH, Pravin is only 125 KPH. Also Irfan is a left hand bowler. Also on sub continental pitches you need both accuracy & direction in addition to 140 KPH. Neither Ishant, Aaron or Yadev - all 140 KPH- are in the squad. So India is struck with these 3 + Dinda. Will Dhoni try Dinda instead of out of form Pravin? If there is logic, he Must. Also Jadeja is like a white elephant- most expensive bowler- just in XI for fielding! Rahul Sharma is infinetly better spinner - an accurate wkt. taking wrist spinner. Dhoni needs Rahul to give some respectability to the dismal Indian bowling. Ashwin & Rahul can bowl their 20 overs @ 4 to 5 runs/over. If the seamers can bowl at <5 runs/over, the opposition total can be restricted to 250. But Dhoni has to stop fooling around with part time bowlers. Have 4 specialist bowlers +one All rounder in Irfan. Indian bowling is very weak right now.

As an Indian supporter, I wish Bangladesh all the very best. Regardless of whether you win or not, show the fighting spirit. Play good cricket consistently so that no one will consider your victories as upsets.

We the Bangladeshis will come on party only after the match . we do not like astrology as like Indians.

we dreams because we have the abilities to make it true. you all Indians know that how many times you have defeated by us. so don't be over confident ....

cry baby stuff by mushfiqr rahim....

Posted by msaurav on (March 15, 2012, 15:29 GMT)

Well a cricket match is not won till the last bowl is bowled .So we(indians) should keep our fingers crossed . We cant take bangladesh lightly . Most probably we will getting an india vs pakistan final . India should play to their full strenght . And india's bowling is weak is wroung to say . Rahim will be proved wroung too soon though they are not so threatning but they will be threat to bangladesh rush of blood batsmen . And ashwin will come handy . India bat till 10th .If one or two batmen fires for india it will be enough for india to beat bangladesh . Two centuries and an quick fire fifty will do

Posted by mrm2011in on (March 15, 2012, 15:28 GMT)

mr.rahim take a loook at ur team..u cant score 39 run of 0 ballls with 5 wickets remaining and talking about others..try to improve urself other than tryng to find opposition weaknesses

Posted by   on (March 15, 2012, 15:11 GMT)

ok..we accept that our bowling is weak..then what about Bangladesh's it very strong,Mushfikar??????...

Posted by Chuck_Nunchuck on (March 15, 2012, 14:58 GMT)

wonder why bang isnt in the t20 qualifier like the others. Im sure they would be beaten by the likes of Ireland/Afghanistan/Netherlands. And next time I would really would love to see Afghanistan, and Nepal in the Asia Cup.
