Their bowling might struggle to defend 289 against Bangladesh. Their batting might not be resilient enough to dominate in all conditions. But in the subcontinent, India are the masters of the chase. And after having knocked off 321 in 36.4 overs in Hobart barely three weeks ago, they completed their highest successful ODI chase, in Mirpur, against Pakistan, who are not exactly a weak bowling side. And leading the mammoth effort was that man Virat Kohli who scored a career-best 183. Forget the obscenities, forget the extreme emotions; with 11 hundreds, including three in his last four innings, Kohli is one of the most complete ODI batsmen in the world now.

When a boundary is needed, Kohli is the man. When the singles are needed, Kohli is the man. When a gap is to be found, Kohli is the man. He kept doing all of that for 148 deliveries against Pakistan. By the time he was done, he had hit 23 boundaries and made 183. India had lost Gautam Gambhir off the second ball of the innings. They lost just one more wicket in the next 272. Kohli's dominance was so complete, it left contrasting support performances from Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma in the shade. It certainly meant Mohammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed's centuries were in vain, as was their 224-run opening stand, Pakistan's highest against India, and their second-highest ever.

Not losing by a bonus point put Pakistan in the final of the Asia Cup; it kept India and Bangladesh dependent on the result of the last league game between the hosts and Sri Lanka, who have been knocked out. A win for Bangladesh will see them go through, as they lead the head-to-head against India in the tournament; any other result will see India qualify.

It was Kohli who almost single-handedly kept India in the tournament with a performance so supreme it led Misbah-ul-Haq to call it one of the best ODI innings he had seen. Chasing 330 is tough. Chasing 330 against Pakistan should be as tough as it gets for an India batsman. Kohli could not bother about things such as pressure, even when Pakistan struck gold in the first over when Mohammad Hafeez trapped Gambhir in front.

Pakistan were playing five bowlers but India worked around the threat of Saeed Ajmal and Umar Gul initially by targeting the others. Tendulkar and Kohli outdid each other in strokemaking. Their second-wicket partnership was worth 133 in just 19.1 overs. While Gul and Ajmal were given the respect they deserved, the shorter lengths of Wahab Riaz and Aizaz Cheema were taken for runs, as was the quicker pace of Shahid Afridi.

The 100th century finally done with, Tendulkar was totally unrestrained and went along at a faster clip than Kohli. India found momentum in the third over, Cheema's first, which went for 12. Kohli began with a violent pull while Tendulkar's back-foot punch past cover was vintage. Pakistan had just started to suffer for bowling the wrong lengths. Cheema continued to bowl short of a good length, and Tendulkar brought out another vintage shot - a sly guide over the wicketkeeper that flew away for six.

Tendulkar and Kohli dealt with the spinners in their own ways when they needed the boundaries. Tendulkar carted Hafeez over midwicket with a slog sweep; Kohli whipped Afridi through the same region.

Riaz's three-over spell put Pakistan under even more pressure. Not only did he bowl short, he kept on targeting Kohli's pads and the batsman helped himself to several fours on the on side. He ultimately disappeared for 50 in four overs. Hafeez, the lone part-timer used, went for only 42 in nine.

Tendulkar, meanwhile, misread an Ajmal doosra after reaching his half-century and ended up edging it to slip, but Kohli was looking nearly unstoppable. What he needed was a sidekick and Rohit rose to the occasion. He took his time before showing his range against spin with a series of cuts, pulls and lofted drives over extra cover. Kohli and Rohit went one better than Kohli and Tendulkar had, as the third wicket realised 172 in 26.2 overs.

Kohli was in the zone. He went without a boundary for 32 balls, but still scored 25. In this period, he got to his century, which came with the now-famous emphatic celebration. In this period, Rohit kept getting the boundaries. The asking-rate still crossed eight an over after the 40th over. Kohli went after Gul in the 41st in a flurry of whip, swat, loft and clip. Sixteen runs later, the rate was below seven-and-a-half. He wasn't done yet. Riaz was greeted with a whip off a yorker, a flick and a drive in the 42nd. Thirteen runs later, the rate was below seven.

Though Kohli and Rohit could not hit the winning runs, the game as a contest between India's batsmen and Pakistan's bowlers had ended during their partnership.

Hafeez and Jamshed had ensured the pressure would be squarely on India going into the chase, with a 224-run opening partnership. After having failed to defend 289 against Bangladesh, India were once again let down by the inability of their bowlers to either strike or contain.

India had the opportunity to make first use of the Mirpur pitch, which has been harsher for bowlers in the evening, but Hafeez and Jamshed stroked boundaries at will, against a listless unit, on their way to centuries. Younis Khan, usually not one to worry attacks at the death, smashed 52 off 34 deliveries to lift Pakistan to their second-highest total against India.

India's lack of penetration was evident when MS Dhoni threw the ball to Tendulkar in the 24th over, after having already tried seven bowlers. Five of them had already gone at more than run-a-ball by then, and none, barring Ashok Dinda, had come close to troubling the Pakistan openers.

Pakistan had taken control long before that, though, with Hafeez and Jamshed, a burly left-hander in the Graeme Smith mould, playing with assurance and eschewing any desperation.

The previous best opening stand for Pakistan against India was 144 between Aamer Sohail and Saeed Anwar in 1996; Hafeez and Jamshed had already rustled up 150 at the halfway mark. Both soon got to their centuries, Jamshed's being his maiden one in ODIs.

The batting Powerplay consumed both batsmen, as they searched for more runs, but Younis and Umar Akmal ensured that Pakistan came nowhere near enduring the kind of middle-order collapse they had had against Bangladesh.

Younis has been criticised for being slow in this format, but today he was at ease as the innings neared its close. Orthodox punches and lofts raced for boundaries through the off side. To Pakistan's misfortune, Kohli would hit them harder in the evening, and for longer.

Excellent batting by Kohli. Stay hungry my friend. Don't become another Selfish Sachin.

Pakistan is still FAR FAR ahead of india in head-to-head clashes...in both Test and ODI matches. Pak has beaten India MANY more times in Test and ODI matches then India has beaten Pak. So only a mere couple of recent victories do no change the fact that Pakistan's record is much better. Facts speak for themselves....that just says it all:

Test matches - India won:9, Pak won:12 ODI matches - India won:48, Pak won:69

The post-mortem begins. They should have listened to me a month before the World Cup. I was saying the Indian bowling needs an overhaul. No one listened. The batting too, despite the occasional sparkle, is far from settled.

The win against world class bowlers of Pakistans made this match memorable.Congrats Kohli.....but keep ur head cool, learn from Master Blaster, how to be in the limelight

hard luck india and hardluck virat kohli once again in less than a month...but i think no one is to be blamed other than the indian team itself...after seeing the match they clearly deserve to play in finals but this is international cricket u cant afford to relax like india did against bangladesh for which they had to pay...best of luck in future but if some one can tell me wh y dhoni has so much confidence in ravindra jadeja..i dont see any extra ordinary qualities in him...for me yousaf pathan is a far better choice than jadeja...

thanks God there is a competent team will play final with Pakistan

India isn't good luck team Pakistan

well played india against pakistan. But you dont go to final because bangladesh win against sri lanka.:)

Posted by deconstruct on (March 20, 2012, 15:54 GMT)

Well, for once, it is indeed good to see the Pakistani and Indian fans not going at each others' throats. Pakistanis have accepted this defeat with grace while (for a change) Indians have not been arrogant: perhaps the recent spate of defeats first in England and then in Australia has helped mellow their attitude. But what I'm really surprised about is the some Pakistani fans' bias regarding Misbah and Afridi. While I agree that Misbah's captaincy left something to be desired in this particular match, but if anyone should bear the burnt of criticism, it should be Afridi. It was Afridi who batted like a tuk tuk in the death overs, and was pathetic with the bowl. Views have been aired in the press and tv that he is eyeing a chance at becoming the ODI and T20 captain again, and his case would only be strengthened if Pakistan lose in Asia Cup. I hope that's not true, but if it is: shame on him!

Posted by wasim_007 on (March 20, 2012, 14:50 GMT)

But we got answer..we defeated becasue 1)worst captaincy 2)low level of feilding 3)taking India to a easy..1) You can not win a match with this kind of captian..a lot of msitake done by captain..a)Why did he taken off Hafiz though he got the crucial wicket b)Why din't he bring Ajmal (Ace Bowler to attack earlier) c)Whey didn't he give bowl to Hamad Azam isn't he a good alrounder? d)Whey did he attack Indian with Ajmal Afrid Hafiz at one end and Pace bowler at other end e) why he could not talk to his players, you can't win by so outdated captain who doesn't know much cricket rule....Pathetic captiancy...Please leave ODI and T20 for GOD sake....

I wish both countries love each other both countries people love eachother.

lets play together and enjoy the game..!!

No fied changings by Misbah ! that was hilarious by captain ! Not playing specialist wicket keeper a bad strategy ! Give afridi some confidence he needs these days and wish to face india better next time

Posted by brando45 on (March 20, 2012, 6:03 GMT)

Dont think Sri Lanka should play Malinga. He was limping at the CB series too, and Sri Lanka needs him for the upcoming series against England.Any ways why should Sri Lanka risk the Greatest pace bowler of present time for a match thats of no value for SL although the Indian fans would dearly love for him to play.I say rest the key players, and give the youngsters a chance but play to win against Bangladesh,

Posted by bhrangi on (March 20, 2012, 4:53 GMT)

It seems our Pak brothers will pray for SL win, so that they can meet IND in final and took revenge ;-). Anyway i dont think SL will win this match against BAN considering their form ( i will be happy if am wrong) . I think both IND / BANGLADESH deserve to play in final. as BAN beat WORLD CHAMPS in other hand IND chased against mighty PAK. @ SL fans : Praying for ur own team lose rt ?? LOL., so that u ll say we send IND out of tournament. great attitude.,Pls mind it U sent IND home in many occasions and u ll also come home little bit late with empty hand LOL.,.,

I agree that kohli played well but it dsnt' mean he is a good player becoz he played against poor bowling attack...Let Mohammad Aamir come....then we will see how he plays....

Well played India :) You deserved to win.

they have ot get better fast bowlers, cheema an wahab riaz should be send back to anarkali, razzak and mohd talha or mohd anwer or sohail khan or yasir arafat are better choice

Posted by cricpolitics on (March 20, 2012, 0:17 GMT)

Kohli is enjoying a purple patch right now but he is a long way away from being great. His career is just starting and it will be ridiculous to compare him with Dravid or Tendulkar at this point. Both Dravid and Tendulkar have a long career behind them before they became great. Sunil Gavasker rightly pointed out that as long as Kohli keeps his feet on the ground he could also turn into one of the best but he still has a lot to prove.

Posted by Al_Bundy1 on (March 19, 2012, 23:47 GMT)

Kohli is awesome! I hope he stays this way and does not become like 10dulkar who cares only about his personal milestones, not team results.

Posted by   on (March 19, 2012, 22:26 GMT)

How can the team that has beaten the two best teams in the tournament, still not be qualified!.

In an ODI the following wins are classed as dominant wins!

India beat Pakistan dominantly with over 2 overs to spare. India beat Sri-Lanka Dominantly with 50 runs margin.

But still not qualified! lol...

I hate the way these tournaments are structured these days..

Posted by PureCricket007 on (March 19, 2012, 22:25 GMT)

feels really good reading Pakistani fan's humble and appreciable comments! As an Indian fan I would like a Indo-PAk finale, just because I m an avid cricket fan too and nothing can better this. After INdia, Pak is my most favourite team. As far as Srilanka, the most over rated tam, is concerned....I don't care they win or lose... Looks like MH has already run out of luck making it to finals of CB series by fluke. If we don't make it...Good luck Pakistan!

Posted by npse on (March 19, 2012, 22:14 GMT)

get dhini out of this team with Jadeja and India will be world beaters again. I swear!!!

Posted by   on (March 19, 2012, 21:48 GMT)

thank GOD there is no fything of comments between pakistanis and indians lolxx that z more lyke it peace that the world want and i just wana say india deserve to win the match and the classy innings of kohli just pushed the indians forward to the future golories well played indian batsman and i hope there would be a INDO PAK final so we can take somee revenge yaar comoon :P lolxxx

Posted by StatisticsRocks on (March 19, 2012, 21:23 GMT)

@Shahbaz: I agree with you. I don't understand why the dislike towards Sachin. he has played so many gr8 innings and yet is so humble is a testimony to his greatness. Kohli is extremely talented but he does not have a mature head on his shoulders. He is yet to prove in test matches both at home and abroad before we call him the next BIG thing. As much as we all want an Ind Pak final, I still think BNG is going to beat SL to get there and may also beat PAK in the finals. They are playing at home and have a lot more to prove than India or PAK.

Posted by   on (March 19, 2012, 19:18 GMT)

I'd love to see an Indo-Pak final to see how Pakistani bowlers bowl. Kohli's innings was one of the great innings chasing a target. Pak made some mistakes including their bowlers bowling on Ind batsmen Pads regularly, something they need to correct!

Posted by dilscoop_uk on (March 19, 2012, 18:42 GMT)

Well Played Kohli! That was an innings I will remember for a long time. Chanceless innings pure class. But also have to admit that Pakistani Bowling and fielding was lacking discipline after they got 330 to defend.I wonder had we scored less then 300 then they would've been more energetic ... :o . Never mind ..hope to see India in the Finals. From a Pak Fan.

Posted by   on (March 19, 2012, 18:38 GMT)

I am the fan of Pakistani team from Pakistan. i am here to say that Virat Kohli is the greatest batsman i have ever seen. Innings of 183 against Pakistani bowlers in batting second chasing target of 330 is not an easy task we all know that. But this man let me tell all of you he is the natural god gifted talent of Indian batting line up. Hope that Bangladesh lose with Srilanka and Final will be Pakistan vs India on 22nd March.

Posted by sirvivfan on (March 19, 2012, 18:21 GMT)

Brilliant Kohli.... Well done joy to watch... India deserve to win as result of this batting performance. Pakistan had to chase to win but decided to bat first because pak batsmen cannot handle pressure and it is their weak link. Riaz pak supporter

well played kholi, your fan from pakistan

Posted by   on (March 19, 2012, 17:28 GMT)

india team need more pratices in the bowling department and for batting there is a improvement in them as for tendulkar, rohit sharma and kohli done excellent job with the batting keep going guys...

Posted by praveen4honestremark on (March 19, 2012, 17:23 GMT)

It's very nice to see Pakistan brothers humble and analyzing comments. After world cup we Indians faced many defeats, only some wins..but even that wins were not applauded by some SL fans and it became like a battle of comments between SL and Indian fans. SL fans were so outrageous sometimes, never know the reason but i feel the loss of WC 2011 might be reason..but anyways i am feeling happy and so relaxed looking comments of Pakistan brothers. Big Thumbs up. Pakistan brothers, your team is good..best in bowling...back your captain , he may loose some ideas during tensed moments , it happens to every captain..but there is no one in Pakistan team who is helping him during crisis by going to him, that's bad part. Anyways, hope India also qualify for finals and hoping for a India-Pak final with a nail biting contest.

Posted by soumyas on (March 19, 2012, 17:23 GMT)

most of the times india makes the situation complex, and makes it more interesting by loosing to teams like bangladesh and then beating big teams in big ways....Thats how they keep on depending on others to decide their chances to reach finals, I never saw a india reaching finals straight forward without any equations. Ironically most of the times it is Srilanka whom we depend on. CB series we wanted them to loose, now want them to win...But tourney is open till the last match.

Shame on those who talked against humble SRT. Look at his record, just amazing... I still remember his innings against Pakistan in chennai 136.

@Ragupathy Karuppannan u r absolutely correct

Posted by likeintcricket on (March 19, 2012, 17:05 GMT)

I am a Pak fan but I really admirred Kohli of his brilliant inning. He will surely end up among one of the greats and in my opinion he is even better than Tendulakar. He is not selfish for his own records and most of his good innings produces positive results for India. I wish I could make him switch sides with Pakistan. He look like a right hand Saeed Anwar and he is in a class of VIV Richards. Despite that, Pakistan could have scored 30-40 more runs after such a good platform. A 370 score was very much there against a slightly weaker bowling attack. That could have made the match a little more intresting.

Posted by rock.rockyin on (March 19, 2012, 17:05 GMT)

@Subhakar Vipparti now pls dont make a new story with your NEW score card saying kohli scored 62 of 88 balss.... u have reduced the score and increased the balls he faced.. hw unfair can one become..... it is 66 0f 82 balls.... although he conceded extra balls.. you have to understand cricket not just madness for great man Tendulkar . Kohli got out in power play 35 th over .. had he went on to play and if u understand he would have easily made up the strike rate to 100 .. thats hw he got out trying for a shot and an inside edge.. he didnt try to be calm to make milestone at team's misery... batting till 47th over and putting pressure on Raina to score 51 out of 38 balls and dhoni 21 of 11 balls...finally india has fallen short of 30 runs... we all love sachin .. the knock against pak by sachin is great and meaningfull for country not the milestone against bang where India lost... no wonder why he is getting bad name that whenever he scores century India looses ..

Posted by   on (March 19, 2012, 16:26 GMT)

Not only about world cups.India only won 13 overseas test matches untill 2000.

Posted by   on (March 19, 2012, 16:18 GMT)

I never thought that Bangladesh v Sri Lanka will become so interesting. Before the start of the tournament, I thought India v Pakistan will be the final easily. But wow, what an Asia Cup we are having now. Tomorrow's match is going to be so much exciting. And by the way, I'm still hoping for India v Pakistan final :)

Posted by BlueAndYellow on (March 19, 2012, 16:10 GMT)

so in a battle between bat and ball, bat wins in a batting pitch. I am sure the tables would be turned in a spicy bowling pitch. But it would be fantastic to the battle in a neutral pitch.

Posted by anoopv on (March 19, 2012, 15:56 GMT)

This was classy knock by Kohli hats off.. @Subhakar Vipparti : Exactly I don't know why they do this all the time. The funniest thing is that when they get a good reply they just disappear and popup in another article, they don't have the guts to justify what they said. Same thing will happens if SRT hit another one they just disappear and wait for SRT to fail in one match. Here is what I talk to a SRT hater Y'day about the last 2 matches. India Vs Ban

Q: Sachin made a century? A : Yes playing for personal records Q: India lost because of Sachin A: Yes, Sachin took all the strike.

India vs Pak Q: Both openers made century A: Yes fantastic , playing for the country, strike rate does not matter. Q: 2 centuries and lost match? A: Yes India played well.

These guys know that cricket is a team game and if a guy made a century and the team looses because the opposition played well. but not in Sachin;s case.

amid all compliments and hype around him, Kohli has to stay hunble, can't let his head go big, should keep his head on his shoulder, and should tell himself that he has in him to be the best ODI and Test player of the world, it is up to him if he wants to rewrite record books, it is how badly he wants it, all the best Kohli.

The ease with which Indian team chased down this mammoth total was indeed phenominal....

Virat you have been sensational in d last couple of years and whenever we watch you bat we feel Indian cricket is in safe hands.... The way yoou stay calm and composed and the way you stand up whenever Team India needs a saviour is indeed phenominal!!!!!!! Hats off to you man!!!!!!!! U r indeed a true champion and the future of Indian batting would certainly revolve around you!!!!!!!!! @exynos Hmmm Going by your logic India also beat minnows Australia and Pakistan to win the world cup. I guess Australia's 2007 WC victory isn't special as they also beat Sri Lanka.

DUBAI_EXPAT Agree with your observations regarding Misbah's captaincy. Against India, Misbah's presence has always been "tricky", recall the 1st. T-20 final in south africa, last year semis at Mohali and now Mirpur. I have my reservations about Misbah ( his integrity).

Posted by ProdigyA on (March 19, 2012, 14:36 GMT)

Why do i have a feeling that SL will throw away tomorrow's match against BD. Well if they could bowl a no ball just to prevent a player from getting a century then they could as well do that. Can you fall any lower? Nope. I wouldnt be surprised if Malinga is "injured" tomorrow.

Posted by   on (March 19, 2012, 14:30 GMT)

@ragu - when sachin made 114 off 147 balls kohli made 62 off 88 balls if you want to talk about sachin spoiling that game against bangladesh sorry you are wrong..the bowling was too poor.. dhoni has to admit that.. india is loosing no pride if sachin plays.. he is one of those who made india proud in international cricket.. no doubt kohli is doing exceptionally well now a days... wish he would reach great heights for his current pace at such an young age..

Posted by   on (March 19, 2012, 14:21 GMT)

some people weeep soo much when they see Tendulkar ... I see the whole article tends to say kohli single handedly trashed pakistan...starting with the title..itself. still there are people who weep cry and again weep...soo sad..if you dont like tendulkar.. put something genuine.. the photographs of sachin and other pakistan players are put to credit other 3 important contributions for the match..while kohli's contribution has outbeaten all of themm... keep weeping..again..when sachin makes his 101th ton..

India's past bowlers Srinath, Venkatesh Prasad and Ajit Agarkar combined with current batting line up can become World No.1. Unfortunately, current Indian bowlers are bowling like club bowlers. They should soon find 3 decent pace bowlers.

Once again team india has to depend on others to reach the final.last time in CB series they waited sri lanka to lose their last match.ironycally this time they want sri lanka to win their last match..

Posted by Mushtanda on (March 19, 2012, 13:40 GMT)

@"They destroyed India." No Sir, they did not destroy India. Destruction is what happened in Hobart. And BD wins one game against India in 5 years and then talks about it for the next 50 years! LOL Also, the argument by others that India got its test status in the 30s but won their first WC only in 1983 defies logic! People tend to forget that there were no ODIs before 1971!

Mushfiq ur Rahim & others with a point of view about Indian bowling (including yours truly, who had been sharing the same view) --- Pl note the run rate conceded by the pacers from both sides. This is from PAK: Gul: 7.35 Cheema:7.50 & Wahab: 12.50. Now this is from INDIA: Praveen:7.70, Irfan:6.90, Dinda:5.87. The moral of the story: Irfan & Dinda should be given more chances to build their confidence... or, prove that they don't deserve to be in the team. PERSIST for a while, before deciding to cast aside or not!

Y is media giving over publicity for Tendulkar by posting his photo when Virat Kohli has played winning knock.????????? Who ever plays better its Tendulkar who is more covered by media even for his 50, wherein other guy gets 180 (who hardly plays winning knocks .,.,. ya he might have but only some)

Posted by   on (March 19, 2012, 11:53 GMT)

Even after the valiant effort of Kholi we stand only 50/50 chance to qualify for finals. The main reason is Tendulkar's poor strike rate with Bangladesh. Kholi took 148 balls to reach 183, whereas Great Tendulkar took 147 balls to reach 114. Had we scored 320 runs against Bangla we would have been safe now, which was highlighted by Dhoni during presentation after match with Bangladesh. It was clear that he was referring to Tendulkar. Let us allow sachin to continue to play & creat History ,at a loss of pride to the Country.

India no doubt has always had capable batsmen out of which at least one would raise to the occasion: Virat has always been superbly talented and now has proved that for quite some time but I hope he doesn't get to be the new Sachin, meaning I hope he gets support like he did get from other batsmen in this match & not be under pressure like Sachin has spent most of his career even having other bating greats. If India having MRF pace academy can't produce more bowler like ZAK than they should play their U19 guys in Australia & Pakistan, that way the new comer will get the real essence of fast bowling.

Wow, it is truly amazing to see the mutual admiration and camaraderie between the Pak and India fans. It also goes to show how starved both sets of fans are for more India-Pak contests. An India-Pak game is a thousand times more exciting than a India-SL game. Good luck to both teams, but as always, Go India !

Credit where its due and India were awesome firstly I thought with the ball to ensure Pakistan didnt get a score of 350+ which should have been the case after that start. The chase was test book without a shot in anger and against a quality attack. The other significant factor was the absence of Sewag and turbo charged starts. It was a chase planned to precision and executed perfectly and what's more India had plenty in the tank. Kholi is nothing short of a sensation and his shot selection and exection was awesome. For a guy who is only 23 - man he is going to be a huge problem for opponents in years to come. Rohit for once didnt hit one up in the air after getting a start and did a great job with Kholi.

@masud69, do you know that BAN has beaten IND only thrice while losing 23 games in the last 25 years? Victory for BAN team against IND (or any other test team for that matter) is such a rare event that it qualifies for the term fluke. So no need to be so happy.

Both Pakistan and India can come out of this match with plus points. For Pakistan: They can take comfort in the fact that their top order, specially openers, can handle Indian bowling with ease. For India: They have a new mister reliable in Kohli. This guy is amazing. He can score at will. It will be a fantastic final if it is Pak v India. If Pakistan wants to win in the final against India they must contain Kohli. He will be the difference.

Posted by   on (March 19, 2012, 10:30 GMT)

All is well...but one thing I dont get is..in the report of the India Bangladesh match, it said Kohli was given a reprieve early..and why doesn't this report speak of the lbw appeal off Dinda?? If you want to write them..speak of each one that happens otherwise dont speak of any..and when Pakistan bowlers were listless with their famous excellent bowling attack..who can you speak of the Indian bowling unit already missing Zak, Umesh, Munaf to fitness issues..

Posted by   on (March 19, 2012, 10:29 GMT)

Pakistan has lost the game on my opinion because two reason, mainly virat excellent batting, and secondly misbah bad captaincy, I couldn't understand the rotation of the bowling, like when first hafeez struck in first over he change him, he did few times whenever pressure building up he change the bowler. Hopefully pakistan will play good in final and win

Posted by csowmi7 on (March 19, 2012, 10:22 GMT)

@brando45 And for the record almost all the matches you played in the asia cup on FLAT WICKETS were lost by bonus points. Narrowly missing out on a bonus point in the first match. Yes Yes give excuses like your captain and claim to be the best in the business despite having an empty trophy cabinet. No wonder your cricket board is broke. Maybe if your team wins something they will get some cash.

Posted by SamAsh07 on (March 19, 2012, 10:19 GMT)

Dont write off Bangladesh yet guys. They almost beat Pakistan in the opener but lost because of Ajmal magic. They destroyed India. They can and will try their best to destroy SL too. If they do that, they have a very good chance of even winning the Final. Bangladesh are no longer minnows, expect them to win tomorrow. If they dont, well bad luck. Only threat in SL bowling is Malinga...nothing else.

Posted by manisacumen on (March 19, 2012, 10:07 GMT)

Some bad feeling tells me that it is going to be the same story for india, that happened in australia. A great rearguard fightback only to see us out of the competition.

We needed australia to win for us to go to the final. Though Australia looked very much like winning, our bad luck saw them losing narrowly. We lost our place in the final, thanks largely to one man's great(stupid) thinking of taking it the end. Dhoni cost us that 2 points and we lost the chance to go into the final.

Now again, SL whom we wanted to lose then, we want to them to win it for us. Bangladesh mind you is no pushover. they can be beaten 8 out of 10 times; but 2 times you have to give it to them. SL have to be at their best to beat the Bongis. Any complacency and they are gone. And the fact that beating Bang will not give them any gain, they will not have any motivation. In fact, they won't mind losing also.

But if Bangladesh does go to the final, they should win. Otherwise it will be a travesty ...

Posted by WRX_STi on (March 19, 2012, 10:04 GMT)

Sri Lanka should rest there top 4 senior players (Mahela, Dilshan, Sangakkara and Malinga) in tomorrows mach against Bangladesh. Win or loose SL cannot make into final. So what's the point playing hard in tomorrows match. SL should let youngsters an opportunity to play in these conditions and tomorrow is a perfect day for that.

For Sri Lankan team, There is no shame loosing to Bangladesh, India too lost to Bangladesh. So there is no point playing for the pride. England is already arrived in SL and playing warm up games. SL should concentrate on that.

Posted by   on (March 19, 2012, 10:01 GMT)

@ JONATHONJOSEPHS. Well said man. I totally agree with you mate. SL will not win against BD tomorrow. Most SL fans would love to see Pakistan and BD final. SL team will not risk their top players just before their test series against Poms. Sadly it will be team India watching the final from the grandstand.. Good luck to Pakistan.

Posted by Viknesh97 on (March 19, 2012, 10:01 GMT)

Dear Cricinfo,

I don't understand how Bangladesh are surely in the finals if they beat SriLanka tomorrow. Because if they win, then they have to decide the finalist on the basis of Net Run Rate, right? and India have a better run rate. So Bangladesh would have to win comfortably to go to the Finals right?

An epic innings from Virat indeed and a great game of crikcet, Pakistan so called fabulous bowling line up was thrashed merciless by Indians. Those who are saying that INDIANS are FTB, let me ask them that this PAK bowling line up consist of 3 (WORLD CLASS!!)spinners and 2 pacers,so if they are getting thrashed in sub continent then wer dey will win matches for PAKISTAN, not on green top I guess!! Atleast we are gud in sub continent, and before from 2000 to 2010 we won every where in the world..unlike the other ASIANS TEAMS..like SRI LANKA, whose fans are still not able to digest the world cup defeat..move on LANKANS, I know its very difficult for SL to win test matches outside subcontinent but when will your team gonna win a test match in INDIA!!!!

Sri Lanka still sour from world cup and cb series finals. You guys will always be only competitors not champions like the Pakistan and India team. The batting of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma is a welcome development for the future of Indian Batting sans Tendulkar, Dravid and Laxman who have been hogging the limelight all these years. Virat Kohli is the new emerging champion but in our country obsessed with Tendulkar, many of the experts will never see the decline in the batting prowess of the Seniors who were blocking the entry and blossoming of the new stars. 2011 saw the flop show of Indian Batting in England and Australia and except Rahul Dravid in England the other greats namely Tendulkar, VVS & Sehwag failed against quality bowling. Thank god, Dravid decided to call it a day but the other two greats refused to own their failures and still cling on to their places. Particularly galling is the attitude of Tendulkar who finally managed a century against Bangladesh. The whole country is celebrating as though some epoch making achievement has been made by Tendulakar calling him the GREATEST EVER. How absurd after 2 flopshows

Posted by Spelele on (March 19, 2012, 9:08 GMT)

I hope Virat does not turn into another flat-track bully like his Asian brothers (the Sewaghs and Tendulkars). I really love him though! I wish him all the success in the world. The key thing is that he is (unlike Tendulkar) wining matches for India.

why is it that India are called flat track bullies? if teams like Aus/Eng or anyone else plays on much livelier and more demanding pitches from junior level then they should find Indian flat beds even more easier to play on isn't it? if India can make 300+ on these pitches then these countries with much tougher conditions to bat in should have all the armoury to make 500+ runs on the same ground!!! all it is called is home advantage...

well...let me tell u guys sth about the earlier game between Bangladesh and india! Bangladesh won the game despite those biased decisions made by the umpires...but as far as the result of the game is concerned...the indians can still console themselves with the thought that they had escaped a worse result...coz if Shakib wasn't controversially given out...the rest of the game would have been a horror story for 'em!

Congrats to Indian team for winning the match.

But guys, have you come across the commentary of Laxman Siva Rama Krishnan and Rameez Raja in NEO Cricket ? Oh my God ! The standard of commentary of these two has been deplorable - We just returned from Aus where the commentary was quite good and compare that with Siva Rama Krishnan's commentary (read shouting / unnecessary stressing of words etc). It was more like a noice than a commentary !

In fact, when Virat Kohli was in full flow, I don't understand Siva Rama Krishnan was discussing about India's victory against Pakistan in Sharjah, some 20 odd years ago (to which Rameez Raja said he erased that out of his mind). God Please save us from the sound pollution of Siva's commentary - Hope Neo Cricket appoints better English speaking gentlemen from the Cricketing fraternity so that viewing Cricket in TV becomes more Enjoyable (some one please pass on this infor to Siva and Rameez also)

If they manage to clear a "Tired and fed up" SL team, they really do deserve their place in finals and NO INDIAN FAN will worry about this as we just had ONE BAD GAME- Three bad overs while bowling.. Apart from that, our team is able to satisfy the fans..

@ Wick.roy : Great comment mate............ Pakistan really has a lot of talent in fast bowling and keeping department in domestic circuit...... Now that the current selection has been exposed, hopefully we could see some good fast bowler getting their due chance in the near future.......... But what a flat pitch it was......... And the new rule of two new balls is really hurting Pakistan ever since it has been implicated...... It has ruined the bowling of Afridi and the death bowling Umar Gul.......... Hopefully this rule does not stand for long........

Good to see many postive comments from both IND and PAK friends. It is really nice and i guess this is the probably first time i am reading such comments here. I am a regular vistor this site and had read comments on many articals. But never though of adding my comments here since most of the time, i found many comments are less professional. This is my comments in this site that's because i feel this the right time to add my comments here to support these genuine comment . I congruatlate India for their good chase with ease. Credit to whole even Virat played his knock. Same time, Pak team also played really well. Only missed to use the last 5 overs well. Chase could have be harder for Ind if Pak made 30-40 runs more. Both team played well. Best team won. Matches like this will definitly improve the game of cricket and fans game sprit. All the best to Ban to play their best game against SL. if they plan well, they are well deserverd to play final. Wish best team should get Asia Cup.

last time it was india wanted SL to loose and now other war around it was and the same result!! but now still india dependent on sri lanka!!! :D :D this will be a good chnz for SL to test some young guns in their squad!! resting malinga and the crew. nway kholi is not a legned still. he got much more to learn... i dont see any special bowlers like {Murli, warne, macgrath, wasim, waqar, pollack, donald, saqlain, lee, vaas} in teams.. these pitches are bloody flat... team batting second always got the chance to chase any score. to test the true spirit of batsman and the true spirit of cricket fare pitches should introduced!!where bounce and spin available!! then we can see true legends like sachin, sanath, ponting... again in the pitch. nway good knock by kholi. and even though india won they dont desrve to be fianlists. bangladesh should!! they had close games with pakisthan too. GOOD LUCK FOR BANGLADESH!!! india again can do some SHOPPING as dhoni always says!! :D :D

@James Anderson,by looking at srilanka games against pak and ind in this asia cup, they will even lose to Bangladesh with their top players. And looking at some SL fans post here,it's hilarious to know that they want their own team to lose against bangladesh so that Indians not in finals.so much hatred for India than their own team win.finally Indian team kicked out srilanka by yesterday win,so no favours to srilanka other than to play for pride tomorrow.cricinfo publish please.

Pakistan paid the price for not playing specialist wicketkeeper and for playing Wahab Riaz having no match practice. Umar akmal made many silly mistakes costing more than 15 runs alone. Overall team fielding also cost them another 50-60 runs. Coach needs to work on these weekneses to have any chance of winning big matches.

Posted by Crazy_Pk on (March 19, 2012, 8:07 GMT)

Here's my prediction comes !!! Highlights of Final Match ... IND V PAK... Dont know who will bat first but can say surely that team will chase a score under 300 and it might be around 270-285. The star of Pak V Ind round match Mr. Kholi, Sharma will score max 20-35 each and there is possibility that Sharma will score under 15.. Gul will take 3 or more wickets but there would be 3 important wickets. Ghambir can score 80-100. From Pakistan Umer Akm and Misbah would be Star in Final. Winning team will be Pak. It's 300% true. Any one want Bet?

Posted by Sports4Youth on (March 19, 2012, 8:05 GMT)

In the England series Misbah committed 2 errors , both failed. brought in W.Riaz in place of cheema in 1st ODI and paid a heavy price. Then brought in Abdur Rehman in place of wicket keeper again paid a heavy price by getting dropped catches. Now every one would have thought that Misbah may have learnt some lessons. But here we are, he combined the 1st and the 2nd mistake that he committed against England and committed a biger blunder. by bringing in Riaz in place of Sarfraz Ahmed, the specialist wicket keeper. Misbah does not believe in having a specialist wicket keeper. he thinks dropping catches is ok. yesterday Umar Akmal droped Virat off the bowling of Ajmal allbeit a littile late in the day and it went to the boundary. Ajmal was furious , his face was red. Naturally after that Ajmal lost his temper and was not the same.

Dude! the title focusses Kohli and there's no pitcure of kohli but a big pic of tendulkar in the article? you should correct these things in future articles...give proper credit where its due!

Posted by   on (March 19, 2012, 8:01 GMT)

dear all,

our bowling is a big concern. frankly speaking there is no length maintainence at all. the way pathana and p kumar were bowling it looked as if its a child play for the pak batsmen. they were not tested at all.

like narottam puri commented on dd, a beyond 300 is a must now a days what batsmen should keep on scoring match after match with this level and standard of bowling.

just hopeless. but hardly it takes anything away from pak. they were brilliant and consistant and stayed focussed.

all credit to indian bowlers making kohli and co sweat it out so much to come up with a win for India.

Posted by kesy777 on (March 19, 2012, 8:00 GMT)

What was MISBAH doing in that match as a captain. He was pathetic. He was sleeping. With that bowling line up PAK coudn't depend 330 mainly becoz of MISBAH's poor captancy.KHOLI definitely seem to be the replacement of SACHIN in very near future.

Posted by iamgroot on (March 19, 2012, 7:57 GMT)

I would like to congratulate both INDIA AND PAKISTAN for playing a good game. Starting with Pakistan, I think both the openers were superb Hafeez seems to be a very decent and dangerous allrounder. And then the new guy was very good indeed. No doubt Pakistan team has amazing talent. Misbah is very decent too as a captain. He can be very good leader and Pakistan should keep faith in him. now coming to Indian team. Bowlers all got thrashed. None of the bowlers looked threatening. Pk, Dinda, Pathan bowled some very loose balls and got the treatment. Thanks to a brilliant and amazing VIRAT KOHLI that India Won the match comfortably in end. But still bowling dept is worrisome. On these flat tracks with little or no assistance to bowlers indian team has to get the bowling combination right. Manoj tiwary is a terrific fielder and Rahul sharma should be in playing X1. Bowling cost us a berth in finals. Still It should be Ind Vs PAk finals.

Congrats to all the Indians for chasing such a big total against a good bowling attack. I have one question for Misbah. What the hell was Hammad Azam doing there? Why Misbah didn't try him? If all the bowlers were leaking runs, why he didn't ask Hammad Azam to bowl an over or 2. May be he would have given Pakistan a breakthrough when it was needed. Hammad is a very good all-rounder and he needs the confidence of his captain.

I am not going to comment on Sachin's play in the last game.Having seen the effect of his slow play on the game against Pakistan I guess that was necessary. As for Virat, his maturity in the approach in a game is what makes him the best asset, though technically he's not a newbie too. The bowling has been listless from India, don't understand how these selectors smile and get away without answering. They now have begun reminding me of my old days, when I used to bowl, such pathetic they are. I mean Ashwin bowling short and on the legs, the so called pacers bowling short and wide, at least one poor ball per over. How are they supposed to build pressure? If the batting collapses on a day, we are doomed. Clearly Pakistan is a better team, one off day should not dishearten their bowlers. Ajmal bowled with purpose and plan. There is no equivalence in India even for an Aizaz Cheema or even Shafiul Islam (Bangladesh) for that matter! But as an India fan, its always, go India go :) ! !

@missionbegins2011, for the Indian fans Bangladesh's win over them is always a fluke, they are not ready to give them due credit, which their God (read sachin tendulker) has given after the post match interview, how mean!!!

Congrats Kohli. Your performance is superb and after becoming vice captain you are taking responsibility. I think its time to consider whether Sehwag need to be vice captain any-more.

Our best chance relies on SL beating BAN. Given the strong BAN performances it would be a tough ask from the minnows SL to beat BAN.

Fantastic to read all these positive comments from pakistanis. Wonder why the bangla friends cannot be decent in their comments. Guess people with real skills are always gracious, it is the empty ones that make irritating noise. Good luck SL.

Wel Done India, you will score millions of runs when the pitches are flat and the bowlers have nothing to work on. Your bowling won't be affected as you don't have a bowling attack work with. Batsman you couldn't lay bat on ball in Australia have now become gods on flat tracks.

Wonderful innings by Kohli. Being a Pakistani we can find many reasons for our loss yesterday, but I think we should give credit where its due, so well played Kohli. Pakistan may have many weaknesses, but one thing they have started showing in recent times is that they are willing to learn from their mistakes, so there will be a better performance next time around InshaAllah, you can count on that! I pray for a Pakistan India final, and InshaAllah Pakistan will show their real mettle. Go Pakistan

i used to follow cricket live especially between pak and ind matches. particularly in sharjah stadium during those times of 1985 - 2000 with my friends and with some snacks and drinks besides us and enjoy watching few Fav shots. soons after we used get fed-up when losing wickets like a chain going one by one and folow others during the first bat or chasing as it was like Azaruddin time. and soon we throw all those eatable things whatever to celebrate while watching those matching would be in the dustbin in few hours later with untouched. Now Life becomes so harsh and so busy and so mechine like, and friends seperated as thier own commitments. but now it look entirely difference outfit of indian cricket. it is so polished and very sharpened not given up at anytime. i am really proud. keep doing it. never give up!

Congrats to the Indian batsmen on a thrilling win! Our team really has mastered the art of batting on subcontinental pitches. But the win means that bowlers like Irfan & Ashwin will not come under any serious pressure to perform. (I'd give Dinda some time. If Ganguly's impressed with him, I see no reason why he cannot be tried for a while.) But, conceding upwards of 600 runs in two games is not very champion-like! It is unfair to expect these guys to chase down 300+ every time. Now can we please create lively pitches in India to hone some seriously skilled fast bowlers? There's enough evidence that the medium pacers will never win matches, except for the odd lucky day. Irfan...smh...I never understood the fuss about him. Can people now stop being emotional about Irfan, please? Not quite the match-winning performances we were told (emphatically!) that he'd put on display. I'll take Vinay, the better fielder, over Irfan any day, considering their similar success with the ball.

India deserved to win as they were the better side, had a game plan and had a shrewd captain. Pak can no longer blame their batsmen as their mediocre bowlers' shortcomings were quite visible. Capt Chacha TukTuk needs to be shown the door in the shorter formats immediately before he causes any more harm to the team. Not only he doesn't have confidence in his players but batting at #7 clearly shows that he even doesn't trust his own abilities. Picking Wahab was just as horrible as was his inclusion of Malik against England and both backfired. Wahab's year back sole performance against India was the criteria which was so pathetic as he has been out of form for a long time now. If you're playing Hammad as an allrounder then why don't you give him the ball, not even when all others were struggling? If you needed a specialist batsman then Asad or Azhar is a far better option. We missed Razzaq and Sami who both had recent experience of playing in BD and were in good form as well. G'luck Pak.

Posted by khattak1000 on (March 19, 2012, 6:25 GMT)

it was on the card. Pakistani team suffered due to thier wrong policy of keeping wickets with a part timer wicket keeper. Kohli was droppped on Two by Umer Akmal and then it was all Kohli. Second reason was the passive captaincy. When you Know that Sachin is not Picking Ajmal's Doosra then why he has not opted for a slip for Kohli.

LOL!! :D :D anyway was a quite interesting match!! last time it was who sri lanka who sacked athe indians off the finals and now it was indians who sacked the sri lankans off the final!! :D but now indians need to pray for sri lankan win!! anyway i hope they loose cz bangladesh really desrves the win and now it is good chance to give some rest to malinga and worn off feets some rest and give some chance to young talents!! BTW still kholi far aways from reaching talents like in sachin sanath and gayle.. currently i dont see any special bowlers like {Murli, warne, macgrath, wasim, waqar, pollack, donald, saqlain, lee, vaas} in any team,, and kholi never showed his talents in bawling pitches.. only in flat tracks.. that doesnt make him a legend.. nway it was a good knock. wishing banga GOOD LUCK ON NEXT MATCH they deserves a win since they had a close series like SL in aussy. it was a indeed fascinated series!! but still hoping for bouncy pitches where bowlers also get a fair chance!!!

Posted by csowmi7 on (March 19, 2012, 6:13 GMT)

I understand that in the CB series the finalists are decided on head to head clashes but in this tournament it seems stupid because you only play one match with the other team. Net run rate should count.

Posted by smjr on (March 19, 2012, 6:12 GMT)

Further to my latest comments I think onus will not be on coaches but the selection committee as well to work hard for finding players who play with wide range of shots and bowlers who bowls consistently and give less width. This refers to ODIs and T-20s only. So selectors please please..... work hard and take some responsibility on you shoulders.

Posted by shaantanu on (March 19, 2012, 6:11 GMT)

Lets hope Bdesh makes it to the final.they deserve it simply bcos they have been so good in this tournament.Pakistan too deserves some good days after what they have been through.....India well too much cricket tends to get boring.so chill and take some break.as for SL they simply dont care about flat tracks do they.they r the champions of fast bouncy tracks......so go n play against the poms in your fast bouncy tracks back home.

Posted by smjr on (March 19, 2012, 6:06 GMT)

Pakistan cannot beat India in Asia cup final that is sure. Pakistan team lack mental toughness and captain have some mental blockage. The problems with Pakistan team as I always said are two (i) Batsman lacks wide rang of shots (ii) Bowlers lack variety and give width every 2 balls in 6 ball over on the average. These two problems emerge when they play quality opposition such as India, Australia, SA and Eng. Even if they won Asia cup (due to Bangladesh in the final) the afore mentioned problems will not be cured. I pray and hope that Whatmore may fix these problems.

Posted by csowmi7 on (March 19, 2012, 6:05 GMT)

@jonathanjosephs "India has not won anything abroad while Sri Lanka have been equal abroad". I guess that would explain why Sri Lanka have never won a test in Australia won one test out of like 12 in SA and never won a test series in NZ, WI, and Eng. I think you forget India winning the cb series last time round, the t20 wc, test series wins in NZ, WI, Eng, Natwest Series, and 1983 WC. The Sri Lankan Tropy Cabinet has been gathering dust for almost 2 years. Barely making the final and losing does not make your team masters of fast pitches. But I agree Sri Lanka have been equal abroad. Mediocre at home and mediocre abroad. Getting this worked up over the World cup final is no use. Taking pleasure out of another sides sorrows is unhealthy.

Posted by bhrangi on (March 19, 2012, 6:02 GMT)

@johnathonjosephs : sour grapes rt., mate even if SL play willing they cant defeat Bagladesh ( considering the form of both teams ), dont talk like SL will be willingly lose to Bangladesh. Match didn't even started, u stated the execuses for loss., LOL. I will be happy in both ways, if SL win, we are in to finals, if they lose its 3-0( it will be funny to see comments like we lost because we want IND to send out). It shows SL attitude that to send India out of tournament is their only wish, anyway we both will be going home this time (1 diff we walk out with some pride,330 chase against mighty pak attack and indian legend's 100 th hundred)

Posted by usernames on (March 19, 2012, 5:57 GMT)

I have seen cricket for last 30 years or so I can confirm and pretty sure that this man Kohli has got timing, execution, eye, placement and above all hunger even better than Azharuddin, Zaheer Abbas . He along with Rohit sharma will replace Tendulkar and Dravid and I cant see any problems with indian batting on subcontinent. India only problem is their fast bowling and playing of their batsman on bouncy tracks in Eng, Aust and SA. I am a Pakistani supporters but I have to admit that Indian cricket is miles ahead of Pakistan.

Bilal Raza: I agree with you mate. Under the captaicy of Misbabh, Pakistan was marching ahead by white washing almost each teams. They won matches in all formats of the game against SL, BD, ZIM and white washed the over rated Eng team in tests. But Pak got these victories when Afridi was not in the team. Once Afridi included in the PAK-ENG ODIs and T-20, Pak suffered white washes that too in their own backyard.

Posted by DUBAI_EXPAT on (March 19, 2012, 5:50 GMT)

Well done the Blues, the difference was Virat Kohli backed up by very poor tactical captaincy by Misbah. How on earth can you justify taking off Hafeez after he got a wicket in his first over? With 300+ on the board any one with basic cricketing knowledge would attack from the beginning, particularly when you get an early wicket....but not Misbah! You have the world's best spinner Ajmal bowling in the crunch batting power play 35-40 overs and you have no slip in place to take wickets, when you know that that a wicket at that stage will make the difference between winning and loosing the game.. Why?? Whats going on in Misbah's mind he has made so many tactical error's in a number of games. At an international level that's not acceptable. Let's look forward to the final and an equally thrilling game for the sake of cricket.

Posted by dudex16 on (March 19, 2012, 5:49 GMT)

What an effort from India. well done.... HOWEVER THE BOWLING IS A WORRY AND EVERY MATCH IT WILL BE HARD FOR INDIA TO CHASE SCORES LIKE THESE. Praveen should work on his bowling as he is not able to swing the ball in ban conditions. Also Irfan is not playing well. I am impressed with dinda...When Zak ,Yuvi , Harbhajan and Umesh Yadav the INDIAN team will be superior

Posted by smjr on (March 19, 2012, 5:49 GMT)

Congratulations to India for a resounding triumphs. If a team cannot defend 330 than that team is not good enough it as simple as that. It has been seen over the last 20 years or so that Pakistan team always falter against good teams like Aust, SA, Eng & India in ODIs. Pakistan only victory in ODI tournament in ODI is WC 1992 and one Asia cup. When we compete against the top opposition we always lack that extra bit & punch needed to dismantle the opposition. Pakistan victories relies on the individual brilliance. We could not beat Eng 3-0 test series had Ajmal and Rehman are not there. We have not produced quality batsman after Inzamam which create difference . Lastly the ground fielding, throwing is very poor. On the mental side bowlers have not plan A or B, batsman lack wide range of shots and the bowlers gives width bowl at least 2 in 6 ball over. Just look how indian bowlers bowl at Afridi just wide outside off stump with full deliveries so that he cannot free his arms.

Posted by   on (March 19, 2012, 5:46 GMT)

What a superlative innings of Viral Kohli ....a total dominance of bat. Chasing 330 puts any batman under pressure. But Kohli dazzles in such a contest.

Hope this young man has a bright future and stay many more years providing us the entertainment.

Really hope Bangladeshi's beat the Lankans and reaches the Finals. They deserved it for there's spirited last 2 performances. As for Pakistan, they r clearly the better side among the 4 and should win the Major Cup for their Fans. As for India, Our Job is Done. Long Live Indo-Pak Friendly Rivalry!!! And for SriLanka, They and theirs fan never any importance to the ASIA cup as it is being played in Flat Subcontinent Wickets and they are the expertise on playing Fast,Bouncy,Swinging Conditions.

Posted by Reggaecricket on (March 19, 2012, 5:26 GMT)

India are a great side at home and in the subcontinent, that's why they won the WC2011, too. However, a greatness of a side and of an individual player is measured by their consistency at home and abroad. In the past few years India has been the most dismal performers away from home I believe that the Sri Lankan authorities have taken the right approach by deciding to leave a bit of grass on their wickets, so that their players get accustomed to conditions different t the home advantage that their players are brought up on.

Posted by Sports4Youth on (March 19, 2012, 5:26 GMT)

Wow Kohli !!! That was one heck of batting. One thing is clear. With this present batting , India can chase down any score. People are talking about Pakistan being 20-30 runs short because of thieir inability to accelarate during the ending stages. But it appears that even if Pakistan wouod give 400 , still India would have chased it down. during the tendulkar-virat-roshit stage , Pakistani bowlers looked helpless and incapable of taking any wicket.

Posted by spinkingKK on (March 19, 2012, 5:21 GMT)

Kohli is just superb and doesn't need my comments to make anyone agree. Tendulkar also played brilliantly. It was Tendulkar who kept the run rate going in the early stages. To me, this knock of Tendulkar is far superior to his 100th Century. This is how Tendulkar should play. 100th century or 1000th century shouldn't cross his mind. JUST PLAY TO WIN ALL THE TIME.

Posted by brave_khan on (March 19, 2012, 5:20 GMT)

good and equal performance both teams, difference was kohli, captaincy failed again of misbah, lack of another pace attack bowler in pak team to support gul,pak shouldnt relay on spin every time, hop both teams meet again n final

Posted by spinkingKK on (March 19, 2012, 5:16 GMT)

Has anyone noticed that India's chance of making the final would have been better if they lost the match to Pakisthan? Because, that will give SriLanka more motivation to beat Bangladesh and if they beat Bangladesh without Bonus point, it will become a three-way tie and the team with the most net run rate would have gone through. Now, India only has one chance. SriLanka, with no hope to make the final, should beat Bangla.

Posted by RankPace on (March 19, 2012, 5:10 GMT)

Now those days are gone when Pakistan used to give tough figth to India. I think now the gap of talent between India & Pakistan has become so much that even in the absense of some of the top first choice players, still India can beat pakistan very easily, 10 out of 10 times.

Posted by danrockerXI on (March 19, 2012, 5:01 GMT)

I think given the pitch, Pakistan was short of 15-20 runs. This was somewhat a 350 pitch. Given the start Pakistan had, they could have scored that easily. But they faltered in the end. So not taking anything away from Kohli, India would have anyway chased this score as they have shown recently, With Dhoni, Raina, Y Pathan to come in next. Pakistan has always been known to defend with their better bowling attack, but except for Ajmal and Hafeez none of the bowlers could contain, let alone take wickets. I rememeber the days of great Wasim and Waqar, they would bring their team back even if they had to defend 150. But those days are gone! India has currently best batting lineup but the players have to perform and prove consistently overseas and not just batting friendly wickets. I feel sad for bowlers!

massive win. happy to see sachin play the way we've seen him play over the years. uncluttered. virat kohli was just amazing. being in good form is another thing and encashing while in good form is another. hats off. a graveyard for bowlers, really. happy with the way india handled saeed ajmal. he really is a crafty bowler. if rohit and virat had not handled him carefully, he would definitely consumed raina and dhoni. rohit too wasn't comfortable against him. once again, india will have to depend upon sri lanka to qualify for the final. hopefully, they will win this time too as they won in australia.

Poor team selection for this match by pakistan. If pakistan did not play with extra bowler - wahab riyas pakistan would have been won very easily. wahab bowled 4 overs and gave 50 runs. if he did not play, that 4 overs should have been bowled by regular bowlers. Hafeez (1x4.66=5runs) + Gul (1x7.35=7runs) + Cheema (2x7.50=16) = Only 28 Runs. But wahab gave 50 Runs.

India should seriously consider bringing in Vinay Kumar instead of Praveen or Dinda. VK is a wicket taker and has the ability to break partnerships. But the credit should go to Kohli for his fantastic innings! He literally saved India from the jaws of defeat!

It is for those who expects Sachin Tendulkar to retire....Kindly guys let him play until he gets over the record of oldest international player to represent a nation....FYI there are cricketers who have played for their country like Wilfred Rhodes, Nolan Clarke, John Traicos, David Houghton, Imran Khan, Javed Miandad and Vivian Richards at their age of 52, 47, 45, 40, 40, 39 and 39, respectively....Sachin is just 38 and still giving his best...So don't initiate / force retirement thought on him...Between you are welcome to raise your opinion when Sachin fails badly at subcontinent or when you identify a NEW reliable Indian opening batsman who could average between 30 and 35 in ODI's. Until then Please set him FREE.

Posted by Santyment on (March 19, 2012, 3:14 GMT)

Pakistan need better commitment in fielding, a Raina in their squad..What a catch that was and it makes the whole team playing more involved in game and they try to match up with the effort like that. I have not seen anything like that from Pakistan from long. Work on fielding unit and you can see players put their best in other departments too.

Great to see Kohli batting like that. I wish Rohit learns something from him. Rohit is fine but he looks a bit lazy while batting. But he definitely got the talent. We need genuine bowlers cause believe it or not it's our bowlers who caused us recent horrible losses overseas. We need bowlers like Agarkar who might be expensive but really wicket taking ones. Sachin going to play great for two years and then he will retire.

India may have won the fight, but have not won the war. The final trophy is in our hands :). Paksitan Zindabad! And Kholi, is one crazy player, hats off to him.

Posted by theRule19 on (March 19, 2012, 3:08 GMT)

To see Virat bat today was just a great treat to watch..He hardly took a step wrong and seemed almost not bothered by pace or spin..Pakistan has a very good bowling attack..and to come out with this sort of a performance, puts him right up with the great players the game has seen. This will surely boost up the morale of this Indian team, if they happen to be in the final. Still, Virat has a long way to go and hope he reaches what the great cricketers of the past and present have achieved.

Posted by getsetgopk on (March 19, 2012, 3:07 GMT)

Well played India! its now time to bring in some toe crushing bowlers that can send the batsmen back one way or the other, Gul, Cheema are good bowlers but on these flat pitches you need express pace, Pak should now think about blooding some young talent ASAP, Sadaf Hussain, Talha should be brought in immediately.

Posted by Guduji71 on (March 19, 2012, 3:07 GMT)

Koli and India played very well, much of the credit goes to them. But Pakistani fast bowlers did not bowl good line and length. Moreover, I do not understand why Misbah did not use Saeed earlier when Koli and Sharma were batting. He might have got one or both of them out and it would have been a comfortable win for Pakistan. I think Pakistan should go for Abdul Rehman in the final these are spinners tracks not good for faster bowlers. All the faster bowlers went for plenty and even Afridi was disadvantaged due to his pace. So replace Wahab with Abdul Rehman and Cheema/Hammad with Sarfraz WK.

Indian fans saying that India might be in Finals because their NRR requires Bangladesh to win by 90 runs. Thats wrong. The new rule (which I think is very stupid), which was first implemented in the CB Series states that if tied on points, the team who has won the most matches over the other team will go. Since Bangladesh won against India, if they Beat Sri Lanka, they will go to the finals, no matter what the NRR or situation is. Knowing that Sri Lanka are very good at kicking India out of tournaments, I wouldn't bet on a Bangladeshi loss

Amazing chase by India, Greating batting, awesome innings by Kohli and great comeback in the last 5-10 overs to limit Pakistan to 329. Great fielding too. As for Pakistan, Misbah, Afridi & Younus Khan are senior players and must discuss strategy for field placement and bowling rotation. Afridi does not need to be the captain to contribute with his ideas for bowling and field placement suggestions. Misbah needs to get advice from Afridi & Younus. The ego must give way to team play.

INDIA NEEDS BOWLERS , DHONI YOU ARE WRONG IN SAYING THE CURRENT SET OF BOWLERS ARE TALENTED, WAKE UP CURRENT PACERS ARE NOT GOING TO HELP YOU ANY , YOU CANT ALWAYS BE SO LUCKY CHASING BIG SCORES , CURRENT PACERS CAN BE TAKEN FOR 300 + ON ANY PITCH, SO BATTING CANT BAIL YOU OUT ALWAYS LEARN LESSONS FROM ENGLAND AND AUSSIE TOURS,PLEASE DONT TRY TO SWEEP THINGS UNDER THE CARPET.

What an AMAZING performance by Virat Kohli. He single handedly took the match away from Pakistan. As a Pakistani supporter, I would like to congratulate Indian cricket fans around the globe and hats off to Virat Kholi once again! Keep rocking it man! I would LOVE to see the likes of Sachin, Laxman, Sehwag retire because it's about time when we start seeing new and BRILLIANT cricketers from India and that can only happen when new slots are available to be filled. GREAT JOB TEAM INDIA. Here is hoping for Pak vs Ind final.

Posted by   on (March 19, 2012, 2:44 GMT)

@my fellow brothers in Pakistan: Well played guys.. Yesterday was a day dominated by batsmen and we were lucky to have batted second with 9 member batting squad. Hope we (India) get through to the finals so that we can watch some scintillating cricket. All the best for the finals regardless of whether you play against Ind or Bang.

Posted by Zahidsaltin on (March 19, 2012, 2:37 GMT)

Wickets should never be so flate. Bowlers had no part to play in this match. It was a contest between indian and pakistani batsmen and indian batsmen won it. Misbah made it easier for india by chosing to bat first.

Posted by Zahidsaltin on (March 19, 2012, 2:35 GMT)

Pakistan without Razaq is not complete. What does Hammad offer which Razaq cant do better. Hammad bowls at 127-133 which is same as Razaq who has more variety and control. In batting no one can be Razaq.

Posted by Baundele on (March 19, 2012, 2:29 GMT)

I still do not understand why Pakistan selected to bat first. Misbah even said at the presentation, "It is quite easy [to bat] under the lights". Then why chose the opposite option? Pakistan had the platform to go wild; but they were scoring at singles in the last 15 overs. Kohli played a tremendous knock, making full use of the on pad bowling. I was scared when he got hit on his head. Great to see him recover and play so beautifully.

Posted by StatisticsRocks on (March 19, 2012, 2:24 GMT)

My respect to our PAK friends for their great comments. I wouldn't call Virat the next Sachin as his technique is questionable in test cricket. He still has a lot of things to learn and most importantly how to be humble with all the success. As good as our batting looks on dead pitches our bowling is pathetic. When will BCCI learn to produce some lively pitches in India to encourage fast bowling. Every youngster wants to become Sachin, or Dravid. It amazes me to see how Pakistan keep coming with talented fast bowlers day in day out. In this match the Pak bowlers had an off day and i am sure if India qualify for finals, PAK bowlers will put a better display of fast bowling.

Posted by johnathonjosephs on (March 19, 2012, 2:18 GMT)

I really don't see what Pak selectors see in Wahab and Cheema. Cheema did have his initial success but he gets no movement and is not that fast. Wahab is fast, but very very inaccurate, plus he bowls way too many no balls. Would like to see Pakistan start investing in some real talents like Junaid Khan

Posted by pappu63 on (March 19, 2012, 2:15 GMT)

The other day Sachin scored 100th 100, but no celebrations as India lost. Today India won, but still no celebration as it has to wait for the next match's result. This is the cruel destiny of Indian team. A true champion always reaches the top with his own efforts, but not with the help of other's failures..........

Posted by johnathonjosephs on (March 19, 2012, 2:12 GMT)

Kohli's really looking to be a class act. I'm surprised that these kind of flat pitches are still allowed. It really gives no hope for the bowlers and is the kind of surface that Indian Batsman thrive on. Flat pitch = slogout = Indian batsman. Will be interesting for the T20 World Cup to see how India will fare. Their batting looks pretty solid

Posted by   on (March 19, 2012, 2:11 GMT)

Once again team india has to depend on others to reach the final.last time in CB series they waited sri lanka to lose their last match.ironycally this time they want sri lanka to win their last match..

Posted by johnathonjosephs on (March 19, 2012, 2:10 GMT)

@Supadumonk are you joking? Sri Lanka beating Australia 4-3 in head to head games IN Australia and losing the last final only by a small margin? And that is the team who must be minnows? You must be joking. The fact is that Team India hasn't won anything abroad, but they are only good in the subcontinent, while Sri Lanka is the same across all pitches. Remember, you guys might have won against Pakistan, but you lost against Bangladesh. Hope Bangladesh wins the last match to get into the Final. Cheers

Posted by jmcilhinney on (March 19, 2012, 2:07 GMT)

People are calling India's bowling pathetic but, while it wasn't good, Pakistan scored fewer runs and took fewer wickets, so what does that say? Kohli was obviously a big factor but what about the rest? I don't think that this was a bowlers' wicket and India definitely weren't fielding their first choice attack.

Posted by jmcilhinney on (March 19, 2012, 2:07 GMT)

Fantastic innings from Kohli. He's been good in LOIs for a while now and seems to be getting better. Is the hundred at Adelaide a sign that he's going to start playing like this in Tests as well? This innings was after a fairly bad blow to the head in the field too. I'd much rather watch this innings than Sehwag's 200.

Posted by Meety on (March 19, 2012, 1:41 GMT)

Kholi needs to start converting this form into tests. This is his 2nd masterclass in under a month. He certainly will be a player India can build a batting line up around for about 10 years. On top of that he is arguably India's greatest fieldsmen.

Posted by   on (March 19, 2012, 1:41 GMT)

OHH India"s fate in SL hands? Mahela should not risk his top players against BD just before the test against England. This means BD can beat SL easily. SL you should forget the Asia cup and concentrate on beating the poms. It will be PAK/BD final. It will be nice to see a minnow ( as Indian fans called it) in the final.

Posted by   on (March 19, 2012, 1:32 GMT)

I not able to understand why batting second has such a big advantage in last two matches in asia cup? Is it like that pitch is so flat that any one could reach any target? or first inning team not able to calculate how much should have total for this special pitch? But it was great two last matches.

Posted by dinuhebbar on (March 19, 2012, 1:29 GMT)

Sachin scored 114 in 147 deliveries against Bangladesh to achieve personal milestone and INDIA LOST. Virat took one delivery extra and scored 183 in 148 deliveries and INDIA WON. Which act defines playing for the country?

As a SL fan, I take my hat off to Virat Kohli. He's simply brilliant. Hobart was a flat pitch...but NO ONE can deny that his innings was absolutely superb. He took apart the bowling attack, just like he's mauled a brilliant Pakistani bowling attack today. Well played sir! You have a massive future ahead of you. Both these games he has virtually single handedly demolished 2 good onde day sides. Reminds me of a mix between Ganguly and Tendulkar...

Posted by jeddykhan on (March 19, 2012, 1:13 GMT)

I think India deserved to win this particlar match due to a superb batting display and congrats to them for winning and for keeping their cool. However, Pakistan made several mistakes while bowling and the captaincy remained poor. For example, bringing a bowler who lacks match practice during Power Play was a big mistake. Not using Hammad Azam as bowler resource when he was available was another mistake. Field Placements were very defensive. Batting order was not changed after such a great start while batting so as to maximize the total posted. Obviously, one should never assume winning against India unless you are taking wickets and they are bowled out. Hopefully the new coach will provide some lessons to Misbahul Haq who is a good guy but does not do any thing spectacular against a tough opposition. Let us hope for the best in Final.

Hi every one saying BD to enter final with a win over SL by virtue of their win over IND, but what about PK who lost to IND? With equal points IND has a win over PK, so how PK will be in the final? All the three will have 1 win against each other.

It's funny to see a few Bangladesh Fans commenting that Ban Team is in a better position in the Cricket world. They are playing Test Cricket since 2000. After playing 73 matches only won 3 against weaker oppositions (WI 2, Zim 1) lost 63 and drawn only 7. They are even unable to draw considerable amount of Test matches. If you consider India They have won 3 matches within their first 32 matches loosing 16 and drawing 13. Pakistan won 3 matches in only 15 matches only loosing 3 and drawing 9. Sri Lanka won 3 matches within 42 matches loosing 20 and Drawing 19. See the difference. Bangladesh playing ODI for about 25 years (First ODI appearance 1986). Played 131 matches against top opponents (Aus, Eng, Ind, Pak, SA, SL) winning only 10. This kind of on and off odd performances doesn't make any sense. Win against India last time is great. But Ban has done that before which ultimately resulting the first round elimination of India from WC 07. But that's it. Nothing is changed.

Posted by arnie66 on (March 19, 2012, 0:05 GMT)

India might have been able to contain Pakistan better today if they had played Ravindra Jadeja (bowling allrounder) today instead of Yusuf Pathan (batting allrounder). Probably Dhoni wanted to give Yusuf a game. Indian middle order batting slots are looking very competitive as others like Cheteshwar Pujara, Yuvraj etc will also be competing for those slots. India needs to find some quality bowlers fast !! Bowlers like Irfan, Praveen impress in domestic cricket but get slogged in International cricket...

india's bowling is pathetic. if u have 3 pacers who bowl less than 130... what is it????/ india should have won comfortably chasing 280 instead of 320. all the bowlers fault .. ..... nevertheless great knock by VIRAT KOHli

@Rafiqul Islam - I just cant stop laughing at your comment. By late 90's India is a world champion in ODI cricket (1983), reached semis twice and is a formidable team. Your compariion with BD team with current Indian team is a joke. Even teams like Kenya (reached semis in WC 2003) and Ireland are much better than BD. An off day in office for India with match against BD and you think BD are in the same league as PK and India. BD havent improved since they started playing ODIs except for a very very rare wins against International teams. So reserve your words for future ,I'd say another 10- 15 years.

I just like to thank both the teams Ind & Pak for lighting up my day, what a match. I really enjoyed it and as a nutral spectator, I couldn't have asked for a better show. I was supporting India for a while when Sachin was batting coz I have always been a huge fan of his, but now I also like Kohli's batting too. What a find by India, he is just a big WoW factor in this Indian line up. But alot of credit should be given to the Indian bowlers and fielders, coz they did & kept Pak under a manageble total. Pak was pretty much in the game until Kohli took it away from them. I hope the Bangladeshi boys were also watching this game as I think they can learn alot from these two senior teams. It will be interesting to see how Bangladesh copes with the Lankans. Srilanka always beats BD and they always win by huge margins. I hope Malinga, Dilshan and Jayawardena gets rested (fingers crossed).

One of the most touching moments was when The Master Sunil Gavaskar said"there they are (Rohit and Kohli) the future of Indian Cricket." Almost as if he intoned: I can now make peace with Death and leave knowing this to be true.": I dont mean that with any malice Mr Gavaskar, but I felt so assured that one of the patriarchs of Indian Cricket spoke so glowingly, so selflessly with an overflowing of well-wishing, I almost had a tear in my eye.

And as proud and delighted at Kohli's remarkable innings as I was, I did also shed a tear for Mr Ramiz Raja who wishes the same degree of prosperity for Pakistan Cricket as does Mr Gavaskar for Indian Cricket, without in any way feeling bitter about the loss to India. Two great well-wishers of the Game.

And What a Game it is!

Great innings by Virat Kohli. He got good support from 10dulkar and Rohit Sharma. In fact this should be the new role for 10dulkar - as a supporting actor. He should never try to score a century EVER. We know that whenever he scores a century India loses. He should score a quick 40 - 50 runs and get out of the way. Let the young turks like Kholi, Dhoni, Pathan, etc finish the game.

It's was awesome match between India and Pakistan. Congrats to Virat Kholi; Team India is very fortunate to have batsman like Kholi and at the same time they really need to find some inspiration in their bowling stocks if they want to stay at the top of the ODI pile. Hope to see INDIA AND PAK in final. Good Luck to both teams and countries. WELL PLAYED PAK........

I'm an Indian supporter. Congrats to Kohli. He's maturing to be a great talent. However Pakistan went down fighting today. I wish India had a bowler like Saeed Ajmal who put all the batsman in trouble. Finally if Bangladesh can beat SL, then they deserve to be in the final. Any team which can beat two top teams like India and SL in a single tournament deserves it's place in the final.

Posted by Imad_K on (March 18, 2012, 22:44 GMT)

I said before this match I still think India are favorites to win this tournament. SLwill beat Bang. People need to analyse issues teams have. You can check my comments before the Eng/Aus series I said India would get thrashed. India struggle against teams with good quick bowlers outside the subcontinent. In the subcontinent against the Asian teams that are the kings. Yes they lost against Bang but maybe Sachin chasing that 100 slowed things down - but one off loses like that always happen. Problem with Pak are for the last 10/15 years has really been their batting - chasing wide balls, hitting balls in the air, 20/3, 30/3 then relying on 1/2 batsmen to bail them out. In the three matches Pak have played batting wise they probably just deserved to win this one but as long as Ajmal didn't destroy the Indian batting then India were always likely to win. I would rather Pak bat like this consistently and lose than score 200 and win because once they sort batting out victories will come.

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 22:44 GMT)

We could guess these scenario. India have to pray for Bangladesh to loose. They are the big bosses of world cricket. They love to make joke of cricket itself. They are now thinking on top agin. But can anyone remember a world champion facing this much much of humiliation within a year of wining world cup title. After 1996 Sri lanka changed the whole dimension of world cricket. Then since 1999 Australia was invincible for nearly decade. But look at this poor Indians. Shame on Indian media, they make some average players superstars which they dont deserve. They are lucky to have some god gifted talents who help them to survive often. Rather Bangladesh is looking the brightest at the moment. They are not as great team as other three giants. But storng determination is evident. Who can deny the performance of Sakib-Al-Hasan's performances in last 3 years. Remember they are not playing with a team ranked lower than them. Still they are 9 th in ranking. Bravo Bangladeshi Spirit.

As a Bangladeshi I am proud this days. I loved all great pakistani bowlers. I used to be a great fan and follower of Ind Cricket. I can remember days back in late 90s. India was a pathetic team with only Sachin to save them once in a blue moon. Then Ganguly, Dravid & laxman brought them upto a level of international team. Just within 10/14 years Bangladesh reached in some notable position which is evident from all these discussions. It took many years for India and Srilanka to have similar impression. Its just the early days, still bangladesh is in teen aged. It is growing smart and fast. Wait a while, we will surprise all in days to come.

@bruisers, to be honest firend, there have been bad comments about the indian team fomr some sl fans but that is in response to constant criticsim and sniping of our team by a large proportion of indian fans..two wrongs do not make a right but it explains some of the comments...i agree that pakistani fans are humble in both victory and defeat and that is why we respect them as opponents in fact i would sy we are now closer to them than india as a result of the arrogant attitude of some indian fans..

Well played Virat Kohli, he is onthe way to becoming the next Indian batting legend. Always been a fan of him, and his positive style. But India's bowlers are VERY lucky to have had such a high quality knock, because their bowling was subpar at best. I'm from New Zealand, and the Black Caps could outbowl you guys, and that's saying something :P (I do love my Black Caps though). They have Zaheer Khan, a world-class seamer who unfortunately is not getting any younger; and real potential in Ashwin, a promising offspinner but who is still learning and not at his best. They really need to find some inspiration in their bowling stocks if they want to stay at the top of the ODI pile.

Venkat_Super_11, you are wrong. Points for Ind & Ban will not be same if there is a tie or no result (due to bad weather). In that case, India will have more points than Bangladesh. If Pak would not had a bonus point, then Ban, Ind & Pak would have had equal points (assuming Ban beats SL) and then it would have come to nett run rate since Pak beat Ban, Ban beat Ind and Ind beat Pak.

It will be sickening to see Bangladesh getting to the final by sending this Indian team home. It is a big error in the tournament rules. Head-Head record getting precedence over net run rate was ok in CB series. Because, in CB series the teams should play each other 4 times! So, if one team shows superiority over the other in 4 matches, it is a fair indication. But, winning 1 game and saying that they have a better head-head record is wrong. Clearly, India is the best team in the competition. However, they may have to go home if SriLanka, with no hope to get into the final, loses to the Bangladeshis in the next game.

India & Pak fans comments making much sense compared to Lanka fans. No matter what.. u guys r already out, accept that & play for ur pride or loose to Bangladesh. Its your problem, not ours. If Bangla beats Lanka, it sure deserves a place in final, no shame there for India. Let the best go to final.

Great win by the Indian team. Its really nice to see some sensible comments and constructive criticism from Pakistani cricket fans. Hope these two great teams compete in the final and may the best team wins - Indian fan from UK

Its good to see some decent and graceful comments by the Pakistani fans.. They have always been admirers of good cricket which is something I like about them.. On the other hand SL fans have been posting some really harsh comments over past few weeks about the Indian team.. I don't understand why they don't take cricket in a sportive manner....

India need bowlers with atleast half the potential of Ajmal, Umar Gul and Rehman. The current set of bowlers are pathetic. Abhimanuy Mithun is better than Dinda, Ind should have played him. The selectors should give chances to new young fast and spin bowlers. India desperately in need of good bowlers to support their batsmen. Eventhough am an Indian am a great fan of Ajmal, love to watch him bowl. He was the only bowler that could trouble the Ind batsmen, none of our batsmen were concincing against him. Truly the world's best spinner.

Great innings by Kohli. He surely does stand up there with the best. Pakistan's bowling surprisingly failed today. I felt that Pakistan missed a trick or two at the toss. They must have chosen to bowl first. Pakistan is good at defending and India is good at chasing(chasing any score)Anyways the last leagus match is going to be interesting. To be honest SL haven't taken this tournament seriously. They must have rested all the seniors and brought in the youngsters. It's pretty embarassing to lose when you have all your top players. Fatigue is the main reason for this poor performance.Anyways the last match will be interesting.I don't think SL will take it seriously. They may even rest key players like Sanga, Dilly and even Malinga may not play due to injury.SL coach, Ford had also said that they are focusing on the England series more. So India's chances seem to be low.Bangladesh are also playing some brilliant cricket too and should edge it.Remember Bangladesh haven't beaten SL before.

Let me tell you, if anybody watch out for a batsman who can get pass Sachin's ODI records of highest runs and century than this is only VIRAT KOHLI. He is a true ODI batsman and looks like similar talent of Sachin and the way he is scoring his runs, it is not impossible that Sachin's records can not be beaten. India go t another Sachin while Sachin is about to retire, what a replacement. This guy can even take more pressure than Sachin while chasing and now the most dependent batsman of Indian team. Great going VIRAT, you have created many more fans after today's innings, you are already my favorite cricketer in my facebook even gone passed to Dhoni. Keep playing like this, you are a true match winner. Love to see you batting with Yuvraj in future...

^Kohli is not next Tendulkar he has his own class and let him not be nominated wid somebody else...he respects ind beginning and then harsh in d end so he has his style of batting...secondly India's strength is batting and it has been for a long time now...bowling is toothless and needs to fire or else the side wont be complete...so bring in the likes of varun aaron and pragyaan ojha....they deserve it totally

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 20:59 GMT)

All legends have been humble during their time of greatness. In Kholi you can't see it as every time he does make a good performance or for a fact even if he takes a catch or stops a ball in the field, the words he utter it self is so unpleasant to see or hear. Skills and talent is something. To be a legend as a Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman or Gavasker, Kholi has to go along way. Currently he is not even close to the master class of the legends. Performance will count only if you show discipline and be humble at your success. If not it will be only a honeymoon..Nevertheless he has time to build that stratus...

Well played Hafeez - Jamshed - Tendulkar - Rohit Sharma & the new rising batsman Virat Kohli.

Seems like it was a batting paradise....400 defend able target or no any guesses,,,, chao.

Well played India and Pakistan!! It was a fantastic match to watch and I'm happy to see Pakistani fans giving credit where its due when it comes to matches against India instead of whining like SL fans have done lately. For me, I enjoyed batting from Pakistan players but bowling left plenty to be desired in both team. Wahab was probably trial so people shouldn't blame Misbah on this. Team India bowlers, conditions aren't too alien so what gives? Pathan was better than others so don't understand captaincy from Dhoni. Also Y Pathan vs Jadeja as replacement, did Dhoni not think about fielding when changing this? Y Pathan should've been in ahead of another bowler. What has PK and Rahul Sharma done to get so many chances? Dinda was fantastic in domestic so ok he may need chances but also bring in Ojha. Hope Dhoni and bowling coach get out of denial asap! Anyway, Congrats India for today's win and hope to see you in the finals for another fantastic Pak vs India match. :)

Posted by srisri on (March 18, 2012, 20:32 GMT)

I can understand the frustration of PAK fans with their bowlers, but this Kohli is gem, he thrashed even the current best ODI bowler Malinga ruthlessly. To be frank, Indian bowling was way more pathetic compared to PAK. Good game and hat off Kohli.

Where were the slow balls and the bouncers? I thought India did far better with their limited bowling resources than Pakistan in the final 15 overs.

Posted by Nampally on (March 18, 2012, 20:23 GMT)

Congrats. India for a great chase down of huge 330 runs. 3 Guys did the chase led by Tendulkar & nearly taken to finish by Kohli & Rohit Sharma. There were lots of Tendulkar critics when India lost despite Sachin's century. He was blamed for LOW S/R of nearly 79! Today Sachin laid the foundation with a S/R of 108 for his half a century. However it was superb batting of Kohli over a sustained long innings of 183 that gave India the Win. As Misbah said it was one of the best ODI innings, facing such a mamoth chase, I would add in the ODI history. Here is a real gem of a player - Kohli - who can control the game & dictate his own terms to the bowlers. Pakistan bowlers did all they could. Afridi, Ajmal & Gul are top class bowlers in ODI. Yet they could do nothing but admire the way Kohli batted almost non challantly & cool headedly. It was a mgnificient innings. Now India has to hope for SL to beat a determined BD to advance to Final, because India failed to do it, because of weak bowling.

Thumbs up for both the teams...... and individually for Virat Kohli..........what a innings it was .....what to say about it....just brilliant..........! and also not to forget Muhammad Hafeez & Nasir Jamshed Pakistan bowling was poor.........it wasn't what everybody was expecting of them....... Hope they do well in the Finals......

From Bangladesh: What an outrageous batting performance by both teams and no word for V. Kohli. He is the next sensation in world cricket. One of the finest and most fearless innings in the history of world cricket so far. But apart from that, bowling has been vary poor today by both teams. Specially Indian bowling attack seems to be the weakest among four. It will not help them in long run. Looking forward to the next game and I just hope BD makes it to the final. Not because I am a Bangladeshi but they deserve it. Tigers have shown better cricket than SL so far and hopefully they will continue to do so.

@gauss786, no dear, if bangladesh win againt the Sri lankan, they will through the finals, b,coz for final net run rate don't effect in this series situation now, head-to-head, calcutation will be declare for final, in that bangladesh beat india in league match so bangladesh will play final against pak, if they will beat Sri lanka.

Kohli played one of the greatest innings of his career today ... Simply outstanding !! Pakistan really need a couple of quality fast bowler .. Cheema , Wahab are simply not good enough and Gul too is very inconsistent ! It's not that Pakistan is lacking fast bowlers , infact it's about poor selection ! Selectors should give chances to bowlers like Sadaf hussain , Mohd. Sami (can still bowl around 95mph on regular basis !) , Tanvir Ahmed , mohd. Talha , Anwar Ali , etc . ! Seriously , there are plenty of quality fast bowlers around .. just needs a good selection committee !

Misbah was not able to use Hamad, forget any other part time bowler :( Pak team look panic and totally out of control after 15-20 overs and Misbah was not visible and not in control. another lesson to learn that india has grow young talent Kholi, where pakistan still wasting most talented umar akmal at number 5-6 number then everyone complains Umar throw his wicket, give him regular no.3 slot and let him grow and fill the gap created by saeed, yousuf, ini....... PLEASE PAKISTAN FOCUS FOR FUTURE - I HOPE DAV WHATMORE can contirbute to it.........

@gauss786: GATHER COMPLETE KNOWLEDGE before passing any comments. Bangladesh just need a simple victory to go into the final. It's because HEAD to HEAD results of the teams with same points is gonna be counted before Run-rate according to ICC rule.

Posted by fata7280 on (March 18, 2012, 19:36 GMT)

IMO Misbah was the main CULPRIT of pak defeat besides Wahab, Afridi & Akmal b/c of :

1) First of all I don't understand what was the logic in his mind when he chose Wahab instead of regular keeper Sarfraz and sacrificed poor Akmal for wicket keeping task. Very very poor decision 2) Misbah didn't continue with Hafeez when they got Gambhir out in the first over and immediately removed him just after 1 over 3)When the PP started in the 35th over when India still requiring 115 off 90 balls why there was no slip fielder placed and there was outside edge from Kohli in the 36th over that should have been caught if there was any slip fielder but Kohli got 4 instead of getting OUT 4)Misbah again proved his defensive captaincy by not completing the quota of 2 best bowlers of pakistan leaving both ajmal and hafeez 9 overs each 5)When Wahab gave away 37 runs off first 3 overs why Misbah gave him 41st over that cost 13 runs and also the game

Congrats to kohli & India. You deserve this victory.

Being a Pakistani i am sad over defeat. But really blessed by watching such great innings by Kholi in such a crunch match and against team with great rivalry.. Our young batsmen like Umar akmal, asad shafiq hammad azam should learn from Kohli how he developed such great batting skills and maturity in such young age.

I am an Indian fan...Firstly thanks to some positive remarks from Pak fans. Secondly these days Sri Lanka fans appear here to throw some negative comments even before India starts their chase and then they disappear loll .. thirdly how good it would had been if Sachin had put his country frist than his personal milestone in 25 overs.. .... India would have easily scored 350 against Bangla if Sachin had not played. Its fate and I see Indian media celebrating sachin century than the bad loss against bangla and we now hav to wait to see Bangla Vs SL... at times like these I feel why should I still watch these humiliating scenes where Country pride is involved. Finally whether India goes to final or not .. this match is memorable and India have all the capability to win ASIA cup but as I said its fate to have loss against Bangla and no one has guts to discuss about sachins knock against Bangla...

Well played India thorough professional win but I must say Pakistan had the chance to score more runs than they did. Afridi was very disappointing in batting and Akmal moves too much in the crease to have good hit. On that particular wicket playing with straight bat was better option. Playing with a non regular keeper cost Pakistan dearly as Akmal drop Kohli when he had not scored many. Hafeez and Jamshed gave Pakistan a very good start but both got out when reached their centuries and wasted their good work rather gone on to score big hundreds like Kohli did. There was nothing for the bowlers on that pitch and batting gets easier in the evening. India shown master class batting and i hope Pakistan young batsmen learnt from them how to build an inning. I hope Pakistan play against India in final for cricket lovers sake. So come on Sri lanka and win your first game on tuesday. Pakistan need to forget this game quickly and start focusing on final and make sure not to repeat mistakes.

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 19:24 GMT)

FOR GOD'S SAKE, SHAHID AFRIDI IS A LIABILITY IN PAKISTAN TEAM. THROW HIM OUT. SHAHID AFRIDI CANNOT BOWL AND CANNOT BAT. HIS PERFORMANCE AGAINST QUALITY TEAMS HAS ALWAYS BEEN PATHETIC AND BECAUSE OF HIM WE HAVE A VERY LONG TAIL BECAUSE HE CANNOT BAT. WE NEED AGGRESSION, WE NEEDED AHMED SHAHZAD OR A PLAYER LIKE HIM WHO COULD DOMINATE LIKE KOHLI DID. WHY ABDUR REHMAN DID NOT PLAY IS BEYOND ANY PAKISTANI. TODAY'S TEAM SELECTION CLARIFIES THAT WHATMOR DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO PICK A GOOD TEAM OR HE IS NOT TAKING PART IN TEAM SELECTION. WE CANNOT BEAT INDIA WITH CURRENT APPROACH AND TEAM SELECTION. PERIOD.

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 19:22 GMT)

@gauss 786

I think it's the same format as the CB series where if 2 teams are tied on points, the team that beat the other goes through i.e. because Bangladesh beat India, they would go through (provided they beat SL) and NRR has nothing to do with it. Correct me if I'm wrong!

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 19:22 GMT)

@gauss786- Dear net run rate will not come into play as first had-t-head will be count if there is a tie in points whereby if Bangladesh will win against SriLanka then Bangladesh will qualify for the final...

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 19:20 GMT)

Mishbah, what a poor captaincy, playing Wahab Riaz when he is not in touch because he stays on the bench for several series and out of form, what is sense of playing him instead of Abdur Rehman? When it was the last time in this tournament when wicket looks like green tint to play three fast bowlers,if Wahab has perform in the past against india it does not means that each time he is going to repeat the same performance.

Pakistan need a planner like JAVED MIANDAD who knows what to do at critical time.

Posted by johnathonjosephs on (March 18, 2012, 19:18 GMT)

Pakistan gave away 30 runs in the fielding/Umar Akmal's Wicketkeeping. The main man in India's batting lineup right now is Virat Kohli. He is in tremendous form at the moment and is making hard chases look easy. India vs pakistan final beckons, unless Sri Lanka decide to give Bangladesh a bonus point win. Knowing how much Sri Lankans hate Indians, i wouldn't be surprised

Posted by Danufur on (March 18, 2012, 19:17 GMT)

@supadupamonk: No matter what you say... The fact remains that SL have to beat the team that defeated India in order for the World Champs to qualify. So yet again, team India is depending on the outcome of a match in order to know their fate.... Other than that... Well played Kohli.

Posted by CricStickMan on (March 18, 2012, 19:13 GMT)

Such a fine innings by Kohli, but still India has to be dependent on Bangladesh to qualify for final...irritating..as Bangladesh have beaten India, so if they win against Sri Lanka, even if by 1 run, they will qualify for the final. I seriously believe that we need to have a bigger Asia Cup, with more teams and a bigger format...

Posted by AccidentallyOnPurpose on (March 18, 2012, 19:12 GMT)

@Gauss, the net run rate doesnt come into play, Bangladesh have already won against India so if they wiin by whatever margin, they are in the finals. I wanted India in the finals but after seeing our Pakistani bowling I'd prefer Bangladesh

Posted by Higher_Order_Mutant on (March 18, 2012, 19:11 GMT)

The same Pak bowling attack had Sri Lanka bundled out for 188. Today India made 330! That shows the difference.

But, after all Sri Lanka's below-the-par performance in this series may send Bangladesh to the finals. Bangladesh looks like better batting side than Sri lankans.

Bangladesh gave a tough fight to Pak. On the other hand, Sri Lanka gave a bonus point to Pak. Sri lanka is the only team to have given a bonus point in this tournament till now!

@ gauss786 its not matter of run rate for Bangladesh because if Bangla win then they will qualify for the final as they have beaten India. Run rate will come afterwards first it will be decided on head to head result

Virat Kohli seems like sachin of past..... and india team is not like india of past........... earlier only sachin used to play.... every1 else failed... recent most example.. against australia when he made 175 and we lost by 10 odd runs ... but now.... every1 in team contributes... virat's 183 may have been useless if not for 52 from sachin and 68 from rohit........ its a team game.. one day sachin plays one day virat.. one day dhoni.... till some1 plays ...no problem..... appreciate the attitude of virat at presentation... obliging rohit sharma... he is most under rated cricketer

I am pleasured to watch this match...firstly Ind V Pak after 1 year, then two teams putting their best batting talent...I thought that the pitch is too friendly for batting and bowlers had no chance of doing anything. I sincerely hope that if India and Pak are facing off in finals, the pitch should give something for the bowlers too...

Posted by Rohit... on (March 18, 2012, 18:57 GMT)

IT IS TO ALL MY PAK FRIENDs. Don't blame your team for this loss. Blame your captain. He dared India to chase even though the conditions suited the team batting 2nd. Didn't he did the homework of looking at the last month's report. India chased 321 in 36 overs and that too on a pitch which favors the one batting 1st.which SANGAKARA said Opponents have no chance of winning the match against this new outfit Indian team (new as Kohli is included) if they set a target below 350. Someone advice Misbah that THE NEXT TIME HE WINS THE TOSS IN MIRPUR, CHOOSE FIELDING.

As a neutral fan of the game I am in total awe of this wonder kid Kohli. This lad is a magnificent cricketer and will utterly dominate world cricket in the next 10-12 years. Absolute match winner at this tender age of 22-23, I have no hesitation in putting him ahead of Tendulkar who was only an occasional match winner at that age. This wonder kid Kohli is winning pressure matches and high chases single handedly with great finesse. He does so very consistently. After mauling the Lankan attack in Hobart again he has shown in this Asia Cup why he is such a marvelous talent on the cricketing block. Our very own Dinesh Chandimal and Pakistan's Umer Akmal could benefit a lot by just watching him play especially in the art of keeping a calm composure in pressure situations and yet finish off the opposition in such a brutal manner.

Posted by mazii on (March 18, 2012, 18:51 GMT)

Being a Pakistani, I'm not a fan of Kohli; but man what a player he has turned out to be for India. The reason why I'm not a fan of Kohli is that his nine out of eleven centuries was in India and in Bangladesh, but that doesn't mean he isn't a great player- he is most probably a great cricketer if not the greatest batsman India has ever produced. Now lets come to the Asia cup. I think the one team that deserves to lift Asia cup is Bangladesh. Someone might be disagree with me but the last two matches they played against other incumbents showed that Bangladesh is ascending. And they are not going to give up without a fight. They are quite capable of beating Sri Lanka in their own country, and for me the next match won't be just an exhibition match. India today outclassed Pakistan. Pakistan just managed to grab a win against Bangladesh but India wasn't that lucky, and Sri Lanka has to play good cricket because Bangladesh isn't going to surrender without a circumspect fight.

Seems like this kid is redefining cricket when it comes to chasing runs. I didn't like watching cricket until I saw last few innings chased down by SA and India. I don't understand Misbah's selection on bowling spells and also Dhoni's. Yorkers were failing from both sides.

It is so sad that Tendulkar is called a great when he clearly has no clue against classy spinners like Ajmal (even Harris had the better of him!). What a shame. I guess picking a classy spinner in a pressure match situation is a different preposition to clubbing a declining Shane Warne in a meaningless draw on flat dustbowls in his backyard. A huge pretender this Tendulkar!

@gauss786, Your calculation is not correct. If two teams have the same number of points then whichever of those two teams won the battle between themselves, will go to the finals. So in this case, if Bangladesh manages to win Srilanka then Bangladesh will go to finals as they have already won India. So, if India should go to finals, Srilanka MUST win Bangladesh. It's as simple as that.

lol at Sri Lankan fans. Knowing jayawardene's ego and the Sri Lankan mindset they will lose to Bangladesh purposely to send India home. They claim to have more dignity and pride than India yet their fans stoop so low. Seems strange that any country can get so much of pleasure from sending another side home even if their team does poorly. It is this mindset that kills quality cricket. Kudos to all the Pakistan fans who are graceful in defeat and acknowledge a great innings by Kohli. Ajmal was the only threatening bowler sadly. The way he made Tendulkar and Kohli dance at moments was awesome. Ashwin could learn a lot from the best spinner in the world. Absolutely brilliant doosra.

bangladesh need only a win in order to be in the final. They won the the head to head against india so that run rate wont be an issue.

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 18:39 GMT)

Why misbah dont opt bowling from Hamad Azam, who gives break through against srilanka as well. Always when Pakistan loose captain never try to bowl from one bowler through out match. Unlike india if they are in need of wicket they give the ball to tendulkar or sehwag, who gives them the require break through. I think this match proves that Misbah is not an attaching captain....

Bangladesh on the other hand need to get approximately a 95 run victory (according to my calculations) over Sri Lanka to overcome India's NRR of +0.38 and book themselves a slot in the finals!!!" >>> That is incorrect. If Bangladesh manages to pull a win against the mighty lankans then it shall be Bangladesh vs Pakistan in the final . Because head to head between Bangladesh and India, Bangladesh has the win. NRR is not any issue in this scenario. NRR would have been a factor had India lost today and SriLanka won against Bangladesh.

Being in west coast , I couldn't watch the match .

Few observations from what I saw :

1. Suresh Raina implicitly warned Hafeez of not backing up too far before bowler completes his bowling.

2. Rohit Sharma had a very good shout against Jamshed - Ball was clearly hitting the leg stump . It was not given.

3. Praveen Kumar is not bowling well in power plays. Not able to produce the swing that used to get him wickets despite his lack of pace.

4. Dhoni backs his players . Today situation was ideal for Raina to come in after Tendulkar got out - Raina scored a fifty in the last match batting at 4 and there would have been a left and right combination. Instead Dhoni sent Rohit who has not been among runs recently. That was really good to see . Dhoni goes with his instincts.

5. India should play with two specialist spinners next time if Rahul Sharma is bowling well in the nets.

The SL players celebrated after qualifying for the CB series finals as if they had won the WC. And then there were reports they considered it revenge for the WC defeat. Well, they have one more chance to take revenge, by losing to Bangladesh. Should not find it too difficult, they are pretty good losers.

Brilliant innings fron Virat Kohli, yet again. He's been the most consistent of the Indian batsmen since the tour of England. It's just a pity that Virat can't replicate his form in ODI's consistently enough in the Tests. Hopefully, this will come with more experience, and he'll finally be able to fill part of the massive shoes in that format left by the legendary "Wall", Rahul Dravid. So, at least Kohli can cement the No. 3 position in Tests, as well as the ODI's!! What I truly like about Kohli is his clear passion for ALL forms of the game - from Tests and ODI's to his IPL team. It's a pity some of the other Indian players don't demonstrate this enough on the pitch. At least WE fans might see that there's some passion for the game from the Indian players. This was particularly distressing to see during the Test whitewashes in England and Australia! Anyway, well done to India. Hopefully, they can reach the final, providing Sri Lanka can win Vs. Bangladesh, which hopefully they'll do!!

Our Ind Team needs bowlers like Gul and Ajmal...that's what our team needs badly now. With this bowling attack even if we reach the final we cannot win against Pakistan. Having said that we cannot take anything from Kohli...what an innings he has played. The important thing for him is he should control his emotions and keep up the good form without getting carried away.

Posted by Rohit... on (March 18, 2012, 18:27 GMT)

@gauss786 You are wrong mate. When there are 2 teams tied up then the winner of their clash will proceed ahead. If more than 2v teams are tied together then only will the NRR come into play. It is due to this rule that Aus proceeded to the finals in 1999 WC ahead of SA ad thus we are at a disadvantage in this ongoing series.

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 18:26 GMT)

well well well what do we have here? Virat Kohli plays a blinder to hand India a famous victory in an unforgettable run chase. India will go through to the finals depending on the outcome of the next match, which involves Sri Lanka. Am I the only one feeling a sense of deja vu here?

Misbah does it again. I predicted after Srilanka game that Misbah would mess it up again against India. Part time wicket keeper was played to get rusty Wahab in and he goes for 50 in 4 overs. Hammad Azam played in place of Asad Shafiq as an allrounder to strengthen bowling and he isn't given a ball to bowl. No captaincy before the game and none during the game. Bowlers were bowling short and there was no guidance for them. Field placings and usage of bowlers made no sense at all. Can a criminal case be filed against Misbah?

Posted by cool2cool on (March 18, 2012, 18:25 GMT)

One suggestion to Indian Cricket Board from me is not do dissapoint bowlers like Irfan, Ashwin, Dinda and others for giving so many runs. They should be given more chances. They are good bowlers and keep them with the team. Irfan and Dinda can have brialian future, but they need some more chances. Congratulaitons from Afghanistan.

Although a die-hard indian cricket fan, I am a grt fan of Pak quickies. A bit disappointed with Wahab's bowling....he's much better bowler than what he bowled today...Gul & Ajmal...have a class..! I would love to see India-Pak final...& the best team for the day will win !! Although, BANG thoroughly deserves the appreaciation for the terrific cricket they displayed during the series. They need to play more often against BIGG teams !!

Now do you see the need of young and talented bowlers like Sadaf, Rahat, Talha and Junaid Nadir?

Only Pak's spin trio is the best thing in this bowling attack but it won't work as effectively against quality players of spin like Ind.

Btw, why wasn't Hammad given the ball and why was Sarfraz dropped?

As an Indian fan it's surprising to hear the criticism against Misbah. So who are the other candidates for the post?? Misbah seems to command respect from both his team mates and his opponents. Credit to both captains for a match devoid of any on field incidents. As a Tendulkar fan, I'm glad the focus is finally off the great man. India have still not qualified. It could well be a Pak-BD final where Pakistan would be free of the pressure of an Indo-Pak final and would surely romp home. So Pak fans show some faith in Misbah and his team. They still seem like the team most likely to win this Asia Cup.

@gauss786: Bangladesh just needs to win against Srilanka to go to the finals. If two teams' points are equal, the finalist will be decided based on the head-to-head encounter basis. Since Bangladesh beat India, the net run rate won't come into play. Hopefully we will beat Srilanka on Tuesday!

The team with the most number of wins If still equal, the team with the most number of wins over the other team(s) who are equal on points and have the same number of wins If still equal, the team with the highest number of bonus points If still equal, the team with the highest net run rate

@legaleagle - its not that world champions are suddenly playing to their 'potential'.. India have always been very good on sub continental pitches , problem is , slightest hint of swing and bounce and our famed batting lineup collapse like a pack of cards , (kohli is an exception)

Posted by kitten on (March 18, 2012, 18:09 GMT)

He's done it again. Virat(superman), did it to SL after two of their batsmen scored centuries in the CB series, and now he has done it to Pakistan, again after two of their batsmen scored centuries, and on both occasions, got the MoM award. Seems to be making a habit of it. Fully deserved it though, and even Misbah said that it was the best innings he has witnessed. What a sporting guy. Well done Virat, what more can one say, and a brilliant cricket match between two great rivals. It's a shame one had to lose, but in this case it was good that India won, because Pakistan is already through to the finals, and if BD lose to SL we may have a repeat? What a lovely thought. Once again kudos to both teams.

Well played both the teams....

Kohli is great proven again and again ! I like the enthusiasm and killing spirit with which he plays . He has become a very dependable batsman for India. However India as a team should be more ruthless in one day cricket. We should have won against Bangladesh and secured our place in final first. This is a lesson and we must learn from this. This superb , mind boggling century of Virat and hence the win over Pakistan is of no use if Bangladesh wins against Sri lanka. India have the capability to win more odi matches than what they are doing right now .We should not lose matches so easily and there should be a killer instinct against every opposition how sever strong or weak the opponent may be. I thought we have learnt that when we lost against bangladesh in 2007 world cup which has also ensured India's early exit but again repeated the same mistake on friday I think the attitude is too casual that need to be changed first, the results will automatically come.

Today during commentary Rameez was giving the stats that whenever pakistan have made an opening stand of 90+ they have always won. But today pakistna made an opening stand of 200+ and they lost. This proves that the present lot of pakistani bowlers is the worst in their history. execpt Ajmal, Hafeez and Afridi, the others dont deserve to be in the team. The continues selection of wahab riaz baffles me.

Firstly congrates india, what a player kholi is, no doubt he will cross Tendulkar the indian god in next 5 to 7 years because he is very talented and can play every shot... Pakistan was 20 runs shot..Afridi is running for CAPTAINCY no doubt about this...He is seems like dull player.. Whenever 2 openers score a century in ODI's, invariably that team goes on to lose, I can remember 2 other instances apart from this one, one in 2000 when India defeated South Africa, Gibbs and Kirsten both scored centuries and had put on 235 and then South Africa returned the favor in 2001 when they defeated India at Johannesburg when Sachin and Ganguly scored centuries and had put on 190 for the opening wicket.

Great Win! Its great not because its against Pakistan but because it proves that the youngsters can do it even without Dravid/Lax or the Great SRT! I know a lot of you will say its ODI but believe me if they are not made to sit on the bench they will show there potency in Tests too! good job Kohli..and nice played Rohit! and thank God Sachin didn't got his hundred today or else who knows we might have lost again!!!

Finally, WORLD CHAMPIONS are playing to their potential!! India and Pakistan lack consistency. It will be fascinating to see their clash in the finals. Pakistan need to fix a few things - Umar Akmal should be shown the door; He is not a quality batsman and a poor part-time keeper.

Indian bowlers need to step up to the plate as well. They have been lethargic for quite some time now. You cannot maintain winning momentum if the bowlers keep giving away runs or cannot defend modest totals.

Posted by Sautrik on (March 18, 2012, 17:44 GMT)

wel every dog has a day, so it was kohlis day today, one other thing this is the first and last time kohli has ever shown his batting skill. Its not abt kohli but pakistan were bowling on on side to let Indian scores. Match could be set as there are no india pak matches so two back to back matches are set. because of the pakistan attack india are not even strong enough to score 200.

Forget all this India Pakistan stuff, I have noticed one thing. Whenever 2 players score a century in the first innings in an ODI, the total gets chased down. I can only recall 2 exceptions, 1998, India Sri Lanka and 2011 India Bangladesh in the World Cup. Anybody think of more.

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 17:42 GMT)

ha ...ha ..ha....now we have so many comments after an Indian win....but didn't notice one single post when they were blasted off by Bangladesh !! wait dears and BEG that Sri Lanka wins..but that's probably not gonna happen this time !! India begging for another team so that they can reach final !!! and that team is Bangladesh !!! dear dear..

Again gul is pathetic , when ever we expect gul to perform every time he fails. It is better to leave him when play against India. Afridi playing very casuly

I fall short of words to describe the innings played by him!!! Really a masterpiece...

Posted by Nigah on (March 18, 2012, 17:39 GMT)

Kohlis says both innings are equals at Hobart & right here, I am afraid about the final result and hope that will not the same as in CB Series. Because we want to see Indian in Final. But do not forget Shakib-ul-Hassan...

Once again India showed their class to chase down any big scores....well done Kohli...so called GR8 BOWLING attack of Pakisthan seems to be nothing to the Indian batsman....India is known as flat track bullies my many critics....but actually ever can compete in the sub continent conditions against India...CHAK DE INDIA !

@ALL PAKISTANI FANS:

Thanks for your positive criticism and praise for Team India for this chase. The Sri Lankans need to learna lot in sportsmanship from Pakistanis. They have not tried to reject this win of India by saying Oh it was a flat track. Instead the have prasied Virat Kohli and other Indian batsmen for their effort and have pointed out certain basic erros committed by Misbah and the over all bad performance by Pakistani bowlers. I do think Misbah can be a lazy captain at times like he was today. He could have attacked a bit more esp with Ajmal. But he was handicapped by the fact that none except Ajmal looked like taking a wicket. Ajmal bowled well and proved that being 34 does not matter too much. I was very pleased by the ease with which India have chased 330 and to be honest they never looked like losing it, even after Gambhir's duck. Shame on the Sri Lankans who just cant have a positive word for Indians. The Pakistani fans here are much much well behaved. Ind-Pak Final?

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 17:38 GMT)

M sad being Pakistani...but v v v well played Kohli........just awesome. Seems Tendulkar finally got out of pressure after his 100th 100.

Posted by RankPace on (March 18, 2012, 17:35 GMT)

Every series Wahab Riaz gets one game, gets hammered real bad because of his inconsistent line & lenth, does not complete his 10 overs. Infact does not even bowl his half quota. And still gets selected for the next tour and and the shame old story all over again. One thing is sure, Msibah is not learning any lessons from his repeated mistakes. It also appears that Misbah has something against the poor Sarfraz Ahmed. Maybe domestic cricket rivalry. Umar Gul also has proven that he is a minnow team buly. Major overhauling required for the pakistan odi setup.

Posted by mazii on (March 18, 2012, 17:34 GMT)

India won against Pakistan; a fantastic and mind-boggling inning by Virat Kohli helped India achieve a mammoth total- that was an inning of a life time. In Australia, Virat kohli's century that helped India chase a mighty total against Sri Lanka with a bonus point and keep India in a hunt of making it to the final. This time around, Virat Kohli repeated the same, but India still not into the finals- thanks to Bangladesh's victory over India. I fear on the recurrence of the same thing. If Bangladesh manages to win against Sri Lanka then Bangladesh will through to the finals because here the same rule applies as that of the previous just concluding triangular series held in Australia. Bangladesh was just beaten by Pakistan and Bangladesh bet India. Now, let's see who is going to win the next match. Bangladesh has the huge opportunity of making it to the finals as they have played better cricket than Pakistan and India in this particular tournament. India is still dependent......

Posted by vertical on (March 18, 2012, 17:34 GMT)

India doesnt really need the services of Y.Pathan all our players can play the big shots tendulkar, sehwag, gambhir ,kohli ,raina, dhoni(not forgetting India's best finisher Yuvi)..........Y.Pathan is overrated he is an ordinary bowler, mediocre fielder and averages 27 with the bat, though I would play him in t20s because of his six hitting ability. I think India vs Pakistan in subcontinent is not b/w India's batsmen and Pak's bowler but b/w India's bowlers and Pak's batsmen who performs less worse that team will win LOL

Posted by sweetspot on (March 18, 2012, 17:32 GMT)

Seriously, where is this great rivalry between India and Pakistan? Both teams are extremely friendly to one another on the field, and all emotions are sincere. Someone is going to win, and win or lose, it is not the end of the world! There is always going to be another match down the line sometime. Of course I enjoy my team winning, but much better to enjoy the contest between bat and ball. Today was a cracker of a match, and thanks to both teams for providing so much fun.

Posted by SyedArbabAhmed on (March 18, 2012, 17:31 GMT)

Bad captaincy: 1- In these days of T20 u simply can't contain batting, u hav to take wickets, Tendulkar & Kohli catches went through from slips but there was no one to catch it, 2-When Abdul Wahab Riaz, Cheema & Afridi was giving so many runs then why not Hammad Azam given a chance who taken a wicket against SL & did ok with it, 3- Misbah now can't even hit in slog overs. Afridi is off color since long, fielding was not great, Pakistan must hav scored 400 when they were 224 for 0 in 36th over.

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 17:31 GMT)

afridi is becoming a drag now seems like he is not paying attention to his batting.i dont see any enthusiasm if its like that than he shud retire.slowly pakistans batting is getting stronger add ahmad shahzad and shahzeb hassan and it will become quite a formidable batting attack.pak needs some fresh new fast bowlers if they can find 1 or 2 new good fast bowlers it will become a helluva team pak fans dont loose heart.future is ours.hats off to india for a tremendous effort

Posted by StatisticsRocks on (March 18, 2012, 17:30 GMT)

What a match. Will these two sides ever produce a boring dull game. gr8 knock by Kohli but I fail to understand how PAK's best bowler Ajmal only bowls 9 overs. What a bowler he is. No Indian batsmean was comfortable agnst him. From India's point of view it's too lottle too late as the spirited BNG team will overcome SL and knock India out of the Asia Cup. The Indian bowling unit is pathetic and even I can bowl better...

Posted by CricfanAustralia on (March 18, 2012, 17:29 GMT)

Paks are Asia cup favourites............will surely lift the cup.

Posted by Shah-Ji on (March 18, 2012, 17:29 GMT)

PAK bowling is still one of the best, Just they need a genuine tear away fast bowler, and the best answer is SAMI. j Just week ago He was making headlines on the same pitches.....

Posted by RankPace on (March 18, 2012, 17:27 GMT)

Virat Kohli already got 11 centuries in his brief career uptill now. He is certainly the next Tendulkar in indian cricket. if he keeps going at this pace then he has a great chance of breaking sachins odi records of runs and centuries. He certainly looks on track for it. I personally feel kohl is better than the young Tendulkar, if only he maintains it over a long period of time, then certainly he will be the worlds best. But i think he is already among the worlds best. only he has to maintain it over a long period of time.

Posted by Mr.Optimistic on (March 18, 2012, 17:26 GMT)

I don't think even 400+ score would be enough to stop India. Virat and Co. will be able to chase any score at ease. India just needs to focus on their bowling attack!

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 17:22 GMT)

Praveen is good ... hes proved it more than often. Irfan is also good. And not to forget both of them are decent batsmen as wel. Add to this Zaheer Khan who is outstadning and no mug with the bat either. Add Ashwin to the mix and suddenly India has strength in the tail as well as potency in bowling. Someone tell me what is Ravindra Jadeja doing ? Niether anything with the bat and and certainly nothing with the ball. I guess SRT Gambhir Kohli Rohit ( though he is more trigger happy than Clint Eastwood) Raina Dhoni followed by the above mentioned gentlemen should make up a handy side which can beat the best in the world. Not to forget we have Rahane, Parthiv, Manoj Tiwary, and the destructive Yusuf Pathan in batting and Ishant, Rahul Sharma, Umesh Yadav with Varun Aaron in bowling. MSD should not have anything to worry about the future .. :)

Posted by Sautrik on (March 18, 2012, 17:22 GMT)

don't blame misbah's choice of batting first..... not everyday does a team just casually do a record chase..... well played india!!!! now retain the cup

Posted by VashTheStampede on (March 18, 2012, 17:22 GMT)

And again misbah just shows he is not the good captain for the limites games. instead of trying whab agin he could hav given the ball to azam. he really does not have a clue in one day en t/20. t/20 final against india lost because of him. one day world cup semi final lost because of his stupid captaincy all against india. Hafeez should be named capntain immediately he is the future captain he will lead pakistan in the next world cup not misbah he should just retire from the limited over games. even then great knock of kholi.

Posted by Legaleagle on (March 18, 2012, 17:20 GMT)

Virat is one of the most precious talent in the world cricket. Absolutely astounding performance! Kudos to team India. India has shown again that they play out of their skins against Pakistan. Dismal performance by Pak bowlers. It would be great to see these two giants in the final.

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 17:19 GMT)

Well Done Kohli.. what a batting India

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 17:19 GMT)

Pakistan could have easily made 350+ but it failed to do so. Secondly, Pakistani bowlers except Saeed Ajmal didn't perform at all. Whenever Pakistani batsmen set-up a huge total, Pakistani bowlers fail to defend it and when Pakistani batsmen fail, they defend even a small total. Weird!

Posted by Romenevans on (March 18, 2012, 17:18 GMT)

Ooooooops! Kohli did it again. He is the best young player (With Chandimal) in the world at the moment. And...Hey! Was that the best bowling attack in the world? Man that was horrible, i though our Indian bowling is the worst in world, but these guys were muscled by Kohli alone, there was Dhoni and Yusi were still left in the hut.

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 17:18 GMT)

FEEL THE HEAT ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,FEEL THE POWER...............! VIRAT KOHLI UNLEASHED........!

Posted by RankPace on (March 18, 2012, 17:17 GMT)

The present pakistani bowling may be good against countries like Bangladesh. But it is certiainly not good against countries having good batting like India, England etc. Also the balance of their side is not right. The present bunch of fast bowlers are rubbish. But if you have to draw a comparison betweeen wahab riaz and cheema, i think cheema was definately better than riaz. Wicket keeper shoulld always be specialtist. But pak have been making this mistake right through with Moin khan and kamran akmal, i guess they are used to sloppy keeping that is why they dont like Sarfraz Ahmed. Finally Misbah's style of captaincy suits test matches and not shorter formats. His batting is also not tailor made for shorter versions. He should simply quit the shorter versions and concentrate on test mactches alone.

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 17:17 GMT)

First of all congratulation to Indian team and espically virat kohli for his 183 runs against one of the great bowling attack in world cricket. The selection of wahab riaz was not good because he has not played series against england in UAE and now he should be axed from pakistani squad.I will say that go and play more domestic cricket.

Posted by RankPace on (March 18, 2012, 17:10 GMT)

Wow, misbah the choker, dunit again. He deserves it. Pak deserve it after the kind of selection they made.

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 17:09 GMT)

You just can't win matches against good sides with just 2 world class bowlers. Pakistan's overrated bowlers brought down to earth by Indian batting. We need to have better fast bowlers of old...

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 17:06 GMT)

Misbah must be sacked.....He has exposed his weaker bowlers against the best batsmen....and keep the umar gul, afridi and ajmal waiting for them to get set which have not completed their quota of overs...Afridi with same resources wud have kept India inside 300....He is the worst captain in ODI..

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 17:04 GMT)

what a tremendous chase by India and once again India up against Pakistan.... Record chase for India since 2002 when they chased 326 against Eng,,,, But still India are not in finals. Once again now India has to rely on Lankans and this time SL have to win unlike in Australia where they had to lose...

Posted by aiksa on (March 18, 2012, 17:02 GMT)

Adding to my earlier comments on Umar Akmal, I now suggest he should become Kohli's shagird (pupil). Not only him but all the batsmen of the world. He didn't play a single cheeky shot in scoring 183 unlike U Akmal who tried at least 10 in his 28 and finally got out playing a stupid shot. He has been phenominal when playing normal, proper cricket shots but I don't know what got in his mind. He's becoming more a joker than a batsman. And the bowlers were ceratinly below par today. Slow ones and yorkers were missing from the fast bowlers and spinners were off line and length. They didn't put any pressure at all on Indian batting despite getting an early wicket. All credit to Indian team. Absolutely brilliant win.

Posted by Zahidsaltin on (March 18, 2012, 17:00 GMT)

WHAT MADE MISBAH TO BAT FIRST. Every one is trying to bat second here but Misbah got some other ideas from some where. And then pethatic bowling, fielding and field placement. Wahab has done this in all the matches he played since his rearrival. Should be kicked out.

Well done Kohli the danger through the first ball I was saying. But One thing I was telling to everybody here in Pakistan that Misbah shouldn't elect to bat first at Dhaka. Because this ground is like nightmare for any time while batting first whether it is played at Bangla Bhadu National Stadium or in Sher Bangla National Stadium. to justify this Pakistan lost against India in 1997 while batting first even scoring 316, WI lost the QF in 2011 while batting first, WI lost against Bangladesh at Dhaka while batting first in T20, now you should notice in this tournament, Pakistan just escaped against Bangladesh, but Sri Lanka lost against Pakistan while bating first, India Lost to Bangladesh while batting first and now today, Pakistan lost to India even after scoring 329. :) now just imagine how paradise is this wicket for the team batting second. :)

Today misbah messed up with the selection of the XI. i dont know what he plans to do in the finals. I am sure the finals on 22nd march will be his last odi. It is hign time that he makes way for youngsters. once again gul let down in a crunch game. w.riaz should not have been in the sqaud, leave alone the playing XI. Better bowlers like Sadaf Hussain, Rahat Ali & Mohd.Talha are languishing on the outlines for far too long. like this pak cannot win matches all other countries are fielding their best XI. The poor boy Sarfraz Ahmed had done no wrong in the last 2 matches he played to deserve this. He is getting a raw deal. Once again umar akmal messed up with the gloves, but misbah deserves it.

Bowling is a huge concern for India. I think new fast bowlers like Ishaant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Arun Varun should comprise the fast attack of India. I agree that they are young and relatively less experienced! They may leak runs also. But they are genuine fast bowlers. Give them chance and don't shuffle them! Groom them!

Pakistan losing factor against India has always been MISBAH UL HAQ. I still think he does not deserve the ONe Day and T-20 captaincy. No Player is higher than the team . If Farhat and Shoaib can be dropped. Pakistan Should drop Misbah as the one day captain and bring back Afridi. As a captain, not only Afridi is aggressive and has a successful record but also his personal form with bat and ball is good during his own captaincy . Also Umar Akmal should only play as a batsman, and not as a wicket keeper.

@JChandi Still think Kohli's hitting is blind? The kid is probably the best batsman in ODI . The cover drives, square cuts, paddle sweeps straight drives, delicious! If you think thats blind hitting then you know as much about batting as Chris Martin does! Looks like the so called Lions' ego is hurt after they have been tamed by India and Pak!

inclusion of wahab...the guy who is not playing consistently and that in a crunch match made no sense wat so ever...plus they should have gone with specialist keeper....last 5 overs for pak made the difference as well...with the likes of afridi...you expect 10 plus an over in the final five..didnt happend...would not take anything away from kohli..he played exceptionally well...great inning..congratx from pak :)

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 16:42 GMT)

Happy for team India, however saying that captain should definitely pull up his socks. Bowling attack is extremely pathetic and I would really lay down all the bowlers and use complete part timers to strengthen the batting. Surprising to see charactors like Praveen Kumar, Ashwin and Dinda not feeling even a little when get mothered whilst bowling. This fire power is only seen in IPL and not in any other game. We really need to make serious decisions to make our team look much better. All main bowlers are single dimension players and cannot do what they are supposed to is very humiliating. If any of them really think about playing for natonal team by now they themselves should have stepped down rather than laughing and giggling around when team is not doing good. Anyways way to go to all the batsmen and fielders.

It is evident that India's bowling attack is under a lot of fire. Realistically, you have to admit that Pakistan's batting is a couple of years away from being fine tuned into a commanding one. And when even they can smash around India's bowlers, fielding well and chasing well looks like the only way out. We have to admit that Irfan Pathan is a spent force. With Umesh, Ishant, Zaheer, and Varun all injured, and the existing pace attack to be mostly injured after the IPL, India might be playing a batsmen XI in the series that follows the IPL. I expected Ajmal to shine in this match, and turns out the Indian batsmen knew of his threat and gave him his due respect. Ajmal is a legend in the making.

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 16:23 GMT)

well played india!! Pakistan now really have to work on their batting plus fielding! or else same result will come in their fate in the final!

Posted by shaalim on (March 18, 2012, 16:22 GMT)

Pakistani batsman did well but every one missed the last 10 overs style of Pakistan, with that type of start Pakistan should scored at least 370 and It was not difficult.

Pakistan needs another specialist bowler like shoaib akhtar or Wasim Akram.

Finally, there was a master piece from Virat Kohli... I love to watch this 23 years player batting... and many will disagree because of emotional attachment but He is far more better player than Tendulkar.

those who perform well always win but the spirit is never think about the win by mind and never take the defeat on heart.

No doubt that Virat Kohli and Indian Team showed a class act and i don't want to take away any credit from the Indian Team but i can't see any sense in Misbah's captaincy! He couldn't use his bowlers appropriately. The second weekness was fielding while India saved atleast 30 to 40 runs in the field.

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 16:19 GMT)

Virat kohli played will inning,in final if Umer akaml play as wicket-keeper batsman and wahab riaz play then Pakistan lose the final before final match, Because umer akmal drop virat kohli catch early in the inning and wahab riaz gives 50 runs in only 4 overs

Posted by CrickFreak2012 on (March 18, 2012, 16:18 GMT)

Great knock Kohli ! India have done it against hapless pak again. I am expecting Sachin to open up in his final leg of his wonderful career and play freely as he did today.

Well done India and well done Kohli...

The last 5 overs Pakistan did not score. They could have easily gone past 340 and that may be the undoing now. Wait and watch. Tendul gone. Now that will help him play at least 20 matches more and block one slot of a new player to be groomed. He must be missing Dravid in the dressing room.............

Pakistani fast bowlers are not picking wickets & giving lots of runs, now pakistani selecters should change fast bowlers,i dont know why selecters are stuck with these bowlers after getting bad result in series with england,,.while in pakistan there are very good bowlers waiting for one chance to prove theirselfs..plz somone save pakistani team from their own selectors.

Posted by Sports4Youth on (March 18, 2012, 16:11 GMT)

At the cost of repeatation, wahab riaz should not be in the squd. He may be favorite of someone, may be misball (tuk-tuk). Misbah is not the right captain for odi, he always sacrifices the reguler keeper to get in the 6th bowler. Misbah does not have a place in the odi team. i suppose this is misbah's last series as odi captian and odi player. In a way good that misbah lost, otherwise he would repeat the same mistake.

Posted by AvidCricFan on (March 18, 2012, 16:11 GMT)

This is a great win chasing 330 runs for India. At the end, Pakistan bowling attack looked no different from India's, while India's batting was much superior to Pakistan's. The recent trend of India prevailing on Pakistan contines. I hope the final is between India-Pak and the match is as interesting.

Posted by SaneVoice on (March 18, 2012, 16:09 GMT)

The most selfish player ever has ensured (by slow batting against BD) that India have to depend on Lankans to qualify for finals. Many fanatics of that player were blaming the bowlers. What do they have to say now?

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 16:06 GMT)

congrats team india... you outclassed Pakistan's so called world class bowling today

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 16:06 GMT)

Pakistan must realize that the most important person on their side is an "out and out" w/keeper,Ukmal should have taken Tendulkar and Kholi, when you have spinners like Pakistan have you need a keeper not a part-time keeper.

I think that justifies my worries about the selection of the bowlers in this Pakistan side.......... I don`t recon Wahab Riaz and Aizaz Cheema as International level bowlers.......... And Pakistan has much better bowlers in the domestic circuit....... And poor captaincy by Misbah....... Why Hammad Azam was not tried in bowling and why Hafeez was removed from the attack when he had got Gambhir out........?????? There are so many question marks on his captaincy...................

No place of wahab riaz in pakistan team. He is a pathetic bowler Abdur rehman should have played inspite of pathetic wahab. Now selector should learn and realize the feelings of nation that they have no right to play with the feelings of nation.

Can you hear the screams from Lahore to Islamabhad....Yes Kohli is only 23 years old....years of punishment await Pakistan!

Posted by MianNasir on (March 18, 2012, 15:33 GMT)

Saeed is the prinicipal wicket taker in Pakistan bowling line up. At the start of the batting power play, operating with out slip proved costly. well done Kohli. Great batting under pressure. It is a good game.. Pak and India should play more cricket.

Posted by CricketFirstLove on (March 18, 2012, 14:44 GMT)

At least now Pakistan should think of bringing back Shoaib Genuine Pace. See how hopeless is the bowling. In crunch moments genuine bowlers count. In India Munaf is badly missed too. Wonder why they do not play him. Zaheer, Munaf and Irfan should constitute the pace attack for India. In moments like these the selection flaws come to the fore.

Posted by yakironi98 on (March 18, 2012, 14:39 GMT)

I reckon the overs bowled by Ajmal and Gul will be the decisive moment of the game

Posted by   on (March 18, 2012, 14:35 GMT)

the legendary Tondulkar lays the foundation for a great Indian victory once again. Earlier he had little or no support, now he has the likes of Kohli and Raina to drive the initiative provided by him forward. India is set to win this one big time. Dhoni will have to do something about his bowlers though. Pakistan batted their hearts out but remember what Sangakkara said- you need 350+ to stop this Indian outfit from winning.

Good innings 4m Hafeez & Nasir. But Nasir could do it because he played a lot of matches in MIRPUR for Chittagong Kings in BPL. So Mirpur pitch suits him most after Bangladeshis.

Posted by mansoorJ on (March 18, 2012, 12:51 GMT)

Posted by dr_guru on (March 18, 2012, 12:48 GMT)

329 is not a big score in this pitch against India. India will win although I wish Pakistan victory so that Bangladesh can play in the final. Pakistan should have scored 350+.

India will not win any tournament with this bowlers. 330 to be chased by India? i think it is not possible because Pakistan are having a very strong Bowling line up today. the likes of Afridi, Ajmal and Umar Gul will stopped them chasing the score. and Yes. Riaz is well known blower against India so do not write him off. I hope we see a good batting by India to make this match full of entertainment.

Well well dats a gud run on the board and its long time here when pakistan hit over 300. Salute to the openers contribution, a bit disoppointed from Umer Akmal but though i guess it was demand of the game at that time, Younis did well and not only gave strength to the team IN THE MIDDLE ORDER rather he brought the team over 300 target, Afridi had 7000 yet but unfortunatily he cudnt hit the big,as he tried for that was caught ( it was gud bowling to Afridi from Indian Bowlers). The batsmen put put gud run on the board only the bowlers shdnt relax at all now, pakistan has excellent attack and they shd go for keeping india below 250. GUD LUCK PAKISTAN

Tendulkar can make another Century if he will batted against his team

Posted by Monif on (March 18, 2012, 12:11 GMT)

It seems like that India were playing with 5 fifth bowler. Why can't they play with harbhajan, Ashwin is not a placement of him, he is high quality bowler. India needs to play brilliantly and I think its tough to play two AA's (Afridi and Ajmal). It looks like final against SL and PAK. So SL have a chance now, provided by PAK and Bang. India should now come back and do what they are good at, Play IPL ... Hahahha. Player like Hafeez scored century against them who is not in form even against Eng in this continent. Jamshed remind me of Aamir Sohail today. Good for PAK if only he continues. Now its on Virat and Dhoni (may be Yousuf come handy as Pak have 3 spinners). They are the ponly hopw for India. and lets hope for the best. Its either Go India Go or come back India. :)

Posted by GibyBangalore on (March 18, 2012, 12:10 GMT)

I think it wouldnt be a good move to introduce the part time bowlers (spinners) as early as 10-15 overs from both the ends. This would enable batsman take time to set comfortably. Instead from one end. at least, it should be a full time bowler who can create some pressure on the batsman by not giving runs. Any way, towards the end of the innings, today, Indian bowlers were more consistant and kept some descipline.

Posted by nide on (March 18, 2012, 12:10 GMT)

This indian bowling attack is as toothless as the rest of the team, it is embarssing to see them bowl. Shame that they have learnt nothing yet from the humilitaion metted out by the Aussies.

Posted by ham1990 on (March 18, 2012, 12:04 GMT)

Hapless Indian bowling attack produces yet another lacklustre performance. Regardless of whether Kohli and Dhoni hammer Pakistan into submission and win...it will only gloss over India's bowling attack. There are serious question marks over some of these guys...apart from Ashwin, leave the poor guy alone. I think India has an excellent one day spinner who has had 2 off days and people are attacking him. In terms of the fast bowling...it's a good time to try fresh faces and have a larger pool of guys you can choose from.

Agreed Gopal. Wanton disregard for the consumer. This hijacking of telecasting must stop and more competitors (including national tv channels) need to come in. If a premiership match was to have such ads for every throw in, or ads on all fours sides of the screen while play is ongoing, it would not be tolerated.

tiwary's shown very good temperament as a sub. probably won't get a chance to show the same with the bat unless he joins CSK. joe dawes must be wondering what he's got himself into. an effort bouncer from the quickest indian bowler for the day (dinda, complete with sharapova-esque grunt) just about reaches 130kmph. quite a change from the tests in australia, where eric simons noted that the indian attack was actually on average quicker than the australian. then again there was perth and the embarrassingly steam-engine paced vinay kumar. afridi's quicker one is going to be faster than anything the indian bowlers will be coming up with today.

India should be thankful to Sri Lanka for being the only side that manages to lose to India even in its current state of hopelessness. Even Bangladesh can beat India now. Wonder if there is some secret contract between the hopelessly broke BCCSL and the rich BCCI these days.

Posted by scorpion-. on (March 18, 2012, 11:44 GMT)

I feel anything Pakistan get India will get! Bangla chased almost 300! Surely India can chase around 350! When the chips were down in Australia they could have chased 400 against Sri Lanka if they had to. Hopefully Sachin doesn't waste deliveries like he did against Bangla, and gives plenty of opportunity for the middle order including KOHLI, Rohit Sharma, Raina and the KING of chasing the impossible, MAHENDRA SINGH DHONI

Posted by aiksa on (March 18, 2012, 11:23 GMT)

I strongly believe Umar Akmal is wasting his talent by trying to be too cheeky, too smart and over-inventive. As a result he has been able to score only quick 20's or 30's and getting out playing stupid shots. He has done much better playing normal & proper cricket. I request the coach to look into matter and try correcting this problem or else I see a great talent going down the drain.
