Big Picture
Sri Lanka have been knocked out of the Asia Cup. But they can still spoil Bangladesh or India's chances of qualifying for the final. Earlier this month, they knocked India out of the CB series after beating Australia in the tournament's final league game. They can ensure India go through this time by winning against Bangladesh, or inflict a second-straight knock-out, undermine another sterling Virat Kohli ton and another run-chase of 320-plus, by losing.
A Sri Lanka win will end Bangladesh's Asia Cup, one the hosts spiced up through their thrilling chase against India that kept their qualification hopes alive and prevented Sunday's India-Pakistan encounter from becoming a mere dress rehearsal for the final. They fought hard against Pakistan, won memorably against India by embarrassing a weak bowling attack and can't be written off against a Sri Lanka team yet to recover from sizable defeats. Bangladesh will go through if they win; even if they tie with India on points, they're through by virtue of having beaten them earlier.
For Sri Lanka, a team that beat South Africa at home twice in the ODI series in January and won against Australia four times in the CB series, failing to make it to the final of a tournament they've traditionally done well in represents a setback. Sri Lanka will be desperate to salvage some pride, Bangladesh to display some consistency in winning against superior teams, not merely challenging them.
In 29 tournaments of three teams or more that Bangladesh have participated in, they've only made it to the final once - the tri-series final at home where Sri Lanka took the title in a close finish. A win tomorrow will mark their most impressive performance in a multi-team tournament, and what better place to deliver that than at home in front of a packed house, also the venue for the final.
Form guide
Bangladesh: WLLLL (most recent first)
Sri Lanka: LLLWL
In the spotlight
Nasir Hossain: Only 20, he has been the find of the season for Bangladesh. Spunky in the middle order, more than handy as an offspinner and a livewire in the field, Nasir has infused this Bangladesh team with plenty of life and enthusiasm. He helped give Bangladesh a realistic chance of beating Pakistan and stayed through to almost the end against India, both those innings part of a consistent run in ODIs. Sri Lanka will have their first taste of Hossain on Tuesday.
Dinesh Chandimal: He looks good to take over from Kumar Sangakkara as Sri Lanka's next long-term wicketkeeper-batsman - he's already done that in Tests. Along with Lahiru Thirimanne, he is Sri Lanka's next big batting hope. His last three outings haven't been good, however, with scores of 5, 13 and 0, all in losing causes. Bangladesh present an opportunity for a recovery.
Team news
Bangladesh will be without their seamer Shafiul Islam, who is out for 10 days with a shoulder injury. They have drafted in seamer Abul Hasan in the squad. Whether or not he'll play in the XI, as Shafiul had done, remains to be seen. They have another medium-fast option in Nazmul Hossain.
Bangladesh XI (possible): 1 Tamim Iqbal, 2 Nazimuddin, 3 Jahurul Islam, 4 Nasir Hossain, 5 Shakib Al Hasan, 6 Mushfiqur Rahim (capt & wk), 7 Mahmudullah, 8 Mashrafe Mortaza, 9 Abdur Razzak, 10 Nazmul Hossain, 11 Shahadat Hossain.
Will Lasith Malinga play? Or will Sri Lanka give another bowler a go? They'll be eager to win and won't be taking Bangladesh lightly. It is likely they will go in with their best XI.
Sri Lanka XI (possible): 1 Mahela Jayawardene (capt), 2 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 3 Kumar Sangakkara (wk), 4 Dinesh Chandimal, 5 Lahiru Thirimanne, 6 Upul Tharanga, 7 Farveez Maharoof, 8 Nuwan Kulasekara, 9 Seekkuge Prasanna, 10 Lasith Malinga/Shaminda Eranga, 11 Suranga Lakmal.

Sorry one more thing ... can anyone explain why Sunil Gavaskar had very few commentary slots in the game? He is a real patronising person against BANGLADESH but is very patriotic towards IND. Oh well true colours coming though and Sunil is showing his level of class - who is taller by the way, he or Mushfiqur?!
Posted by GreenTeam-Elite on (March 20, 2012, 17:38 GMT)Ha Ha Ha!!! This Time Pakistan, Sri Lanka & Bangladesh Played a Great Game with Poor Indians...Good Luck Poor Indians with your Dreams...
Posted byWOH MAN....BD KICK OUT INDIA FROM ASIA CUP-2012 !!!!!..... HOW INDIAN FEELING RIGHT NOW ???????
Posted bySri lanka regained their Minnow tags which they seems to be lost after 1996 World cup. They are more than a Major team Part spoiler rather than self winner. All the best to them may be the hit No 10 rank in the side in ODI and Test,The Time has came for M/s Wjkala and lankan who loves to hate India to celebrate
Posted by csowmi7 on (March 20, 2012, 12:44 GMT)@vikramsihag I think its too early to call Bangladesh an emerging power but they are playing good cricket. If they can make it to the final and win it then they will emerge as a competitive side in world cricket. They are still a long way away from winning test matches and doing well in world cups.
Posted byI can well understand how India should be proud of the many cricketing achievements that Sachin's achieved least of all a 100Th century but to proclaim him the greatest cricketer ever, is a farce. His average is half of Don Bradman's and in the Don's day no one wore helmets or were treated to pitches such as the curators are able to deliver today Technology in Bat manufacture was not anywhere near what we have today yet the ball has changed very little. They were paid literary peanuts meaning he had a job outside of cricket that feed his family and a tour of England started with a 4 week journey on a ship to get there not a half day plane flight. There can be no argument from any reputable man that Sachin is not a great cricketer. But Don Bradman has no equal and never will.
Posted by satish619chandar on (March 20, 2012, 12:11 GMT)@Posted by on (March 20 2012, 10:33 AM GMT) : We will never be worried of the result of the game.. We had a good tournament and even if we don't make it to finals, we will be happy s we saw our team perform well and win two matches and had just one loss in last over.. We don't need any favor from anyone to win.. We had one bad match and are willing to pay for it..
Posted by dmqi on (March 20, 2012, 12:03 GMT)IT IS NOT GOOD TO SEE FEW COMMENTS THAT SL WILL LOOSE TO KNOCK INDIA OUT. BANGLADESH CHASED ABOUT 300 TO BEAT INDIA, THEY CAME VERY CLOSE TO BEAT PAKISTAN. THEN WHY CAN'T THEY BEAT SL BY SCORING 231 RUNS? BE FAIR NOT BIASED. THEY MIGHT WIN THE CUP.
Posted by Perera32 on (March 20, 2012, 12:02 GMT)Bangladesh Deserve to go to the finals than Indian Team. If it wasn't for Virat Kohli, then India would be no where. At the half way stage, Bangladesh looks on top, but you never know these Sri lankans. Dohni and Kohli must be absoloutley peeing there pants now hahahaha.
Posted byBD has a Golden Chance to WIN this one. Rain should not be a problem as there is a reserve day tomorrow ....@ Fairness "Nothing succeeds like sa uccess" Winning Asia Cup will be the true glory ..... whether it is INDIA PAK or BD ....
Posted by statsonly on (March 20, 2012, 11:36 GMT)WI beating AUS.Nice to see BD playing so well, very good for cricket. They deserve to be there in finals. There are definately few positives for india in this series.I hope they will qualify on their merit in next tournmnt. What funny though is comments from SL fans, they seem more happy to lose so that ind won't qualify. Sadistic i will say. i supported them in CB series becaz they were the best team in the series. Felt really bad for their performance overall in Asia cup.
Posted by bhrangi on (March 20, 2012, 11:35 GMT)@shaantanu : Hey who is the fast track champions ?? these Sri lanka team, no please dont spread false info
Posted by fairness on (March 20, 2012, 11:21 GMT)ASIA cup final was already played between two great teams! Fans loved the treat from either side of the fence! That is a once in a life time game! whatever happens from this match onwards is a side show!!
Posted by praveen4honestremark on (March 20, 2012, 11:00 GMT)I feel Srilanka will loose today( but my heart is backing Srilanka to win today)..Never know what will happen...but today three teams are playing with each other, BD, IND, SL....but BD for Final berth, SL for pride, IND you may not see that team on field today, but whole India and Pakistan is eager for Pakistan-India final.
Posted by ak_kamal on (March 20, 2012, 10:52 GMT)csowmi7 what you said may be implied but going by the rules that is available in the Point Table tab it clearly says " ....... divided by the number of overs faced" hence you should not divide by 50.
Posted by shaantanu on (March 20, 2012, 10:33 GMT)Funny to see Slankans fans willing to lose to BD so that India goes out of the tournament.......what an attitude......its not dislike but pure hatred towrds india.I guess Wc final still hurts:)....lankans should remember that india have more often than not outplayed them,be it subcontinent or otherwise.so theres no point thinking they r better than us......get real lankan fans......i m not saying india is the best side in the world,we r definitely not.but we r better than sl for sure......comeon BD make them bite the dust.......the fast track champions.
Posted byI Want 2 See the Faces of Dhoni , Kholi & Jayalalitha , Manamohan Singh & all INDIANS when we LOSE today Match against BANGLADESH.. mwah.. BANGLADESH ZINDABAD....
Posted by Maharjani on (March 20, 2012, 9:57 GMT)There are no superlatives left to describe greatness of Sachin. He has no parellel. He is a class on his own. No arguments. But we must put things in perspective. Sachin showed he was human when he could not score fast between 80 & 100 in the match with Bangladesh under enormous pressure to get the 100th monkey off his back, which eventually cost us the match and probably the tournament as well. Had he gone after the bowling and got out in the process, we had still wickets in hand to post a higher score. He is a player who, always, played according to the need of the team and not for records. But this particular innings was un-Sachin like. Pressure tells. A Steve Waugh or Mark Taylor or Adam Gilchrist would have acted differently in similar circumstance. All the same, salutes to Sachin for his great achievement which will not be repeated in the foreseeable future. It is a measure of his popularity that losing to lowly Bangladesh did not invite the ire of the country!
Posted by vikramsihag on (March 20, 2012, 9:51 GMT)by playing the way they are playing today, Bangladesh has justified HIS century of centuries. HE didn't score it against a street class cricket team but an emerging power in world cricket and that too in their own lair. Bangladesh is awesome-- Sachin's century was awesome too!
Posted by SanjivAwesome on (March 20, 2012, 9:36 GMT)I am an India fan. I admire the talent of BD players. Go BD!
Posted by csowmi7 on (March 20, 2012, 9:27 GMT)@ Ak_akmal the run rate is calculated with reference to the full 50 overs if the team is bowled out before playing 50 overs. Hence as SL scored 188 their run rate is 188/50.
Posted by part_time_cricketer on (March 20, 2012, 9:14 GMT)@Don Palathara - my friend must check points table, before putting your comments. Pakistan have 9 points & India have 8. Didn't you watched all matches or may be very excited to see your Team India into the finals?
Posted by frank2011 on (March 20, 2012, 9:07 GMT)@samincolumbia your living in the past mate... get to the now. speaking of the now... the Lankan's seem to be playing extremely well for a sound defeat and i foresee huge celebrations all over the world after Bangladesh wins tonight... celebrations by all other non-indian cricket fans that is :)
Posted by csowmi7 on (March 20, 2012, 9:05 GMT)@yorklanka Haha I dont think Sri Lanka have won anything outside the subcontinent. While India has won the t20 wc in SA the cb series in 2007, the natwest series, and test series in NZ, WI and Eng Sri Lanka have only made finals and have lost 3-2. Maybe if you're trophy cabinet wasn't empty you're board could afford to pay your players
Posted by NinePointTwo on (March 20, 2012, 8:56 GMT)Good luck Bangladesh. Looking good.
Posted by deww on (March 20, 2012, 8:54 GMT)@Don Palathara , Pakistan is on the top of the points table with 9 points, India at 8 points and bangladesh currently at 4. so pakistan is definately through to the final becoz the defated srilanka with a bonus point!
Posted byMr. Don Palanthera, Pak got a Bonus Point in the game against SL who were skittled out for some 188 or so so,Pakistan is already qualified for finals. Anyway, BD is going to offer a Humiliating defeat to SL, the minnows after 10 overs, SL is 32/3
Posted by cAponso on (March 20, 2012, 8:36 GMT)Yeah,Bangladesh can win today.then India can watch the finals.best luck Bangladesh.wishes from SL...
Posted by Fast_Track_Bully on (March 20, 2012, 8:23 GMT)@Shamim_araf. BD hhave to prove that they are capable to do that. Not just talk. Do it and comment. I accept that there is some spark in BD team, but not always....once in 10-15 games or once in a year....thats all!
Posted by ak_kamal on (March 20, 2012, 8:17 GMT)How did Pakistan Get a Bonus point? Bonus Point - The team that achieves a run rate of 1.25 times that of the opposition shall be awarded one bonus point. A team's run rate will be calculated by reference to the runs scored in an innings divided by the number of overs faced. SL run rate 4.11 - runs scored in an innings (188) divided by the number of overs faced (45.4 overs). PAK run rate 4.74 - runs scored in an innings (189) divided by the number of overs faced (39.5 overs). PAK Run rate is only 1.15 times. The General Presumption of getting a bonus point if team batting first wins by 60 Runs margin and team batting second chases it down in 50 overs will work only if full 50 overs are faced.
Posted bytheres a lot of hate messages here, but as this is cricket it should be kept out, real cricket fans should not discredit or disregard the talent of other teams, that is true appriciation of the sport. as for BAN beating IND, and as a bangladeshi i was reall glad india lost, i have a lot of respect for the IND team. all this hate messages for india are only for the frenzy caused by indian media, in 1 news channel before the match even started the channel commented that india will make 444 runs, sachin will shatter sehwags total of 219, kohli will hit sixes all around the park, and bangladesh bowling will crumble, such arrogance deserves this kind of result. For all indian fans, respect other cricket teams as they have potential, IND defeated pak, it didnt even make a differene to PAK, they are in the finals. And all the IND fans who think PAK fans want to see IND in the final, you are sadly mistaken, PAK supporters would like to see BAN.Cricket does revolve around IND.Getover the arognce
Posted by@Anuhya Parakar. Correct,if SL wins you can see the real colors of the indian fans.At the moment they have gone underground and awaiting things to happen in their favor. They make the biggest noise with insults whilst relying heavily on SL to come to finals. We dont want them to wave our flags today because we too support Bangladesh.Bangla and Pakistan fans are the most humble of all.
Posted byThose who want another India Pak match will feel sorry if BD Wins, but India have played very well in this tournament albeit with some complacency against BD, for which Indians are paying a heavy price, being out of Tournament despite being The Best!!! Anyway, being an Indian, I wish for Bangladesh, as I am someone who always supported Teams like Ireland , BD, Zim (And Kenya of the past) when They played against Strong Teams not involving India(my Team)
Posted by abiindia on (March 20, 2012, 7:55 GMT)for srilanka they have nothing to loose, so, might be upper hand as they have freedom for stroke making, whereas for bangla it is must win situation. so i guess it is difficult for them in a crunch game. even difficult to cross 175 if srilanka scores 350 or more.....if they can score 200 if srilanka scores 300 and above, if srilanka scores 250, it would be hard fight for bangla.....
Posted byHow will pakistan reach finals after being beaten by India? If Srilanka loses today, shouldn't it be Bangladesh and India in the final?
Posted by Habi on (March 20, 2012, 7:52 GMT)Good News for BD fans already one step in final as they won the toss and chasing. Gud Luck. By the way I am an Indian fan.
Posted by Pavan_15 on (March 20, 2012, 7:52 GMT)Well I am an INDIAN ..very mch happy n excited after the match against pak!! I would definitely like to see a Ind vs pak final...but Bangladesh has really turned it on with their consistent batting performance supported by indian mistakes in bowling options!! Well i am supporting srilanka ...but i would like to see bangladesh showing the same fighting spirit and taking it to d end!! It would be one ripper of a match!! All the best both the teams...hope you provide very good entertainment!!
Posted by Bruisers on (March 20, 2012, 7:51 GMT)@Vikas Arora - Thats because Pak have a bonus point and India don't...
Posted by Bruisers on (March 20, 2012, 7:48 GMT)Looks like the Lankans are wishing for a Bangla win.. Shame on those fans to have such a negative mindset..
Posted by Shamim_araf on (March 20, 2012, 7:48 GMT)Anuhya parckar/Ajithkumar/binojpeter--Thank u guys 4 positively appreciate BD team.If Bangladesh win 2day it will be good for our Cricket. As a Bangladeshi supporter,i wish BD will win.
Posted byaS AN iNDIAN I EXPECT INDIA PAKISTAN FINAL BUT BANGLADESH PLAYED REALLY WELL IN THIS SERIES SO FAR AND THEY DO DESERVED TO BE IN THE FINAL.SRI LANKA DISAPPOINT REALLY THEY MUST LEARN ONE OR TWO IMPRESSIVE SERIES DOESNT MAKE THEM GOOD SIDE THEY PLAYED BETTER THAN INDIA IN AUSTRALIA BUT STILL LOST THE FINAL BEFORE THAT THEY LOST BADLY HOME AND OVERSEAS.SRI LANKAN SUPPORTERS ARE QUIK TO POUNCE ON INDIA WHEN WE LOOSE AND MAKING HEAVY EXCUSE WHEN THEIR OWN TEAM LOOSE
Posted byBangladesh will win today..and we will kick out india :D
Posted byBD can do it today as well as they did four days back to India.
Posted by ramli on (March 20, 2012, 7:34 GMT)Bangladesh can always spoil someone's party .. but can never WIN a major tournament .. that needs mental toughness in equal measure as skill ... this has been lacking in Bangladesh so far .. I am sure this Asia Cup will confirm that ...
Posted bySome SL fans want their team to lose so that India will be kicked out of the finals. Shame on you..
Posted byGooooooooooooo Tigerrss!! Goo Get ém!!!!!
Posted bydoest matter if SL or BD win.. IND have done there part winning two big games and lost one against BD which may cost them being out of the ASIA cup. Its nothing like we need a favor from BD or SL. If SL have guts they can win else if BD has guts they can win and go to final.. dont care what the result is.. the best team in today's should win... We are pleased after a superb run chase against PAK...
Posted byIam a die hard Sri Lankan fan. Today my wishes are with Bangladeshis. They should have this rare opportunity of playing in the finals of the Asia cup 2012. So I would not mind Sri Lanka losing to Bangladesh in today's match. All the best Bangla!
Posted bylanka will win ... bangladesh can do better but not this time
Posted by@rahulcricket007: Do you really think people won't come to watch IPL if India loses today? That the people will take India's loss so seriously that they will refrain from having some live entertainment? LOL. Seriously LOL..
Posted by Shamim_araf on (March 20, 2012, 7:23 GMT)Wck.roy/Mushtanda/fast track bully---u guys r really week 4m heart,as u 4get dat BD team almost defeated pak in 1st match...so how can u think dat BDvsPak final match will be bored??!!! rather,i can say if BD gonna 2 final,BD will win da title.wrong decisions 4m umpires are hindrance 4 BD 2 win over BDvs Pak match & also 4m BDvsInd match. So guy's if u r real cricket lover then think positive that ASIA's new power has been grown up.It will be good 4 our World cricket & Asian cricket also.So u have 2 appreciate BD team 4 their upcoming heroic moments.Best of luck 2 my BANGLADESH CRICKET TEAM.GO AHEAD....
Posted by MUQ1 on (March 20, 2012, 7:23 GMT)I mean no insult to any nation or any team, but my own opinion is that Bangladesh has taken too much time to find their place in World Cricket nations. They have yet to win any significant event or trophy. They are just content to fin a game here and a game there. It is strange that they lack qulity players who can play consistently. They belong to the Sub Continenet, where Cricket is like a national sport. It could be due to their physical body, or the food habit, I do not know, but they do not have a good pace bowler for so many years. How can they win with only spinners? And they lack stamina to last 5 days in test matches. If they concentrate only on ODI s and T 20 s and leave test cricket for a couple of years, it would do them and every one a lot of good. The matches should be fought and not a one sided affairs. The viewers should also have some fun, especially for home fans.
Posted by satish619chandar on (March 20, 2012, 7:21 GMT)@rahulcricket007 : What does it do with going back home empty hand everytime? If we lose, ASIA CUP will be added to your list only and there will be no purpose!! If we lose today, will there be anything constructive done to win? If you are so fed up with losses in England and Australia, you can easily give up watching the games involving India.. The picked players need to perform to win irrespective of who was picked..
Posted by desxtop on (March 20, 2012, 7:20 GMT)Bangladashin should loss this match and we Pakistani are there for spitting against Kohli and whole indian team ..................
Posted by maddy20 on (March 20, 2012, 7:20 GMT)@popcorn Cocky arrogant OZ fans! You team just lost to WI. Go look at your own team first!
Posted by yorkslanka on (March 20, 2012, 7:20 GMT)@maddy20- "SL team cant play in foreign conditions"??3-2 v Eng in Eng, 3-2 v SA in SA and reaching the CB finals in Aus...hmmm like to think about your comments there? wonder if you're confusing us with the indians who get whitewashed everywhere out of asia??
Posted byDo not ubder estimate BD. They can be Asia Cup Winners 2012. BD can upset even SL. Do not forget 2007 WC where BD beat Ind by 5wkts.& Zim in their inugral WC ouening they beat Aus by 13 Runs Duncan Fletcher scored 72 & took 4 wkts for Zim.
Posted byIn Melbourne A Srilankan sign showing lion kicking the kangaroo. But in the CB series final kangaroo kicked the lion. Now looks like the Bengal tiger will kick the lion also. Lion is not the jungle king anymore.
Posted byPutting up all of todays work for this match!! GOOOOOOOOOOOO Tigers!!!!
Posted byBangladesh sometimes win against better teams. But that's nothing but a fluke. They don't really have the standards of India Pakistan and Sri Lanka.Once you believe they have achieved something they get Humiliating losses.Just like last world cup.But it's pathetic on Lankans they want their home team to lose because they don't want India to play the finals.Shame on you
Posted byShould drop Sahadat, and can get Imrul Kayes by dropping Mahamudullah. We are confident and all wishes for tigers...
Posted by chapman on (March 20, 2012, 7:04 GMT)At last, once again 'sitting' Lankan cricketing embassy-ders are in charge over their neighbouring big brother. Serial misclicking of batting, yoking, fielding and queuing batters on so called flat or fast tracks.World witnesses the greatness of the KING of all sports.Cricket must be the ultimate winner.
Posted by@ binojpeter Don't tell anything you don't know what. Did you forget that Bangladesh made a terrific white wash (4-0) over NZ in Bangladesh?
Posted by@Mushtanda , look bd may not be better than india but not an arrogant indian like u can speak of about bd ever becoming better than india . Dont forget ur so called best india lost to eng and aus both 4-0 and also lost the ODI series that followed quite embarrasingly . now about BD, they are playing good and i hope india get knocked out after we win!
Posted byPakistan cricket and media is still not worried about kolhi good inning against Us because they have trust on our bowling line up but indian team and thr coach media Bcci every one looks worried about ajmal it will give you idea who is more under pressure
Its for all of the people who think Pak is afraid to play India in Final, Bring it on, the whole nation is saying, Bring it on guys
Posted by adeelbashir23 on (March 20, 2012, 6:46 GMT)Upsets never happen again n again.. Love to see Pak VS Ind in final
Posted by Habi on (March 20, 2012, 6:43 GMT)@wjkalana on (March 19 2012, 21:19 PM GMT);@BravoBravo on (March 19 2012, 18:47 PM GMT)... Dudes its the schedule/format which made IND to depend on others. If IND has to play the final league match then other teams would have depended on IND to reach the final. Yet I feel BD played exceptionally well in Asia Cup. Let the best team today win the match. For IND pls. drop PK. Where is IND attack of Nehra, Munaf which helped IND win world cup. For SL fans losing all matches in tournament will only shatters the morale of the team before series v/s ENG. If IND is world champ in home conditions then till today why other teams have not won the cup in their own backyard. Even SL won final in Pak. SL fans pls. learn to comment from PAK fans who posted comments without any hatred even though their team lost to IND.
Posted by THE_10dulkar on (March 20, 2012, 6:37 GMT)Does it matters whoever 'll win?.....But one can imagine of Hype final between ind & Pakistan...Surely matters....Waiting for another match with new record!!!
Posted byI think if BD batted first then it will be a boring and low scoring game but if SL batted first then any thing under 250 is chasable by BDs coz SLns bowling is much better than the Indian bowling. I think that the indians are playing using more batsman with part time bowlers.
Where are Nehra,Zaheer,Munaaf & RP Singh?
They are very good bowlers.
Posted by rockz.andy on (March 20, 2012, 6:23 GMT)SL is a great team when it is in hands of Mahela Jayawardhene and i still respect the team with dignified class and dravidmanship they carried out under his captaincy
you call it for right/wrong reasons they brought pathetic sportsmanmen ship for the sake of spirit of game no complaints about Mahel he is class I am talking about bowling a no-ball and denying a hundred what about the world cup toss that is so disgrace to the gentleman's game ! those two will describe what Nederlands did in the world cupfinal 2012 against spain they need results forget about ethics this is dangerous
Posted by udayanavada on (March 20, 2012, 6:23 GMT)As a Indian fan I do not mind Bangla Desh to win this match. They have beaten India and deserve to be in finals. But it is pathetic that Srilankans want their team to loose just because they want India out of final.I really pity for them
Posted by Black_Rider on (March 20, 2012, 6:22 GMT)Very Sorry about my last comment.Bangladesh did beat us once.....Very Sorry... Posted by hawkeye30 on (March 20, 2012, 6:12 GMT)Although I am a supporter of the Lankan cricket team in my view Sri Lanka is out of the league already hence its time for a new team to shine. Bangladesh have been a very spirited team just like how Sri Lanka was just before 1996 WC. Lankan's have to get back and play England at home. Hope they beat them fair and square. In regards to this fixture Lanka has to help Bangladesh get in the finals.o the finals. The Lankans can decide who gets in to the finals. How ironic!!!
Posted by SL_Cric on (March 20, 2012, 6:11 GMT)Hi, I'm from Sri Lanka..I wish bangladesh to Win today's match and WIN Final as well...they look like our 96 World cup wining team today...Best wishes BROS!!!!!! Surely you will be in FINAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by aladdin12 on (March 20, 2012, 6:01 GMT)i guess, lankans will loose this match deliberately.... they are capable of doing such things. bangla beat india just bcoz of suchin's slow 100.. infact that was good for him and india. donno why people are behind himm, still he is doing his job. it is unfair to compare him with kholi.. sachin was far better and more aggressive than at kholi's age. cricket has seen many such guys in the past...

Posted by ShohanKhan on (March 20, 2012, 5:57 GMT)Some people always criticize BD cricketers. Even S Manjeker said before the match that, BD need 3 or 4 Sakib to win the match, I feel that was an appropriate answer for them as we won with one Sakib. Sometimes one SR Tendulker can not bring team successes. Victory of BD was an execution of team performance. I still remember the semifinal of world cup 1996 (SRI beat badly India), where SRILANKA was an underdog team. Constant good performance brought them the world cup but the only problem of BD Cricketers is, they do not have that consistency. But they proved that they have the class. But look at the Indian side, though they are world champion they are now depending on Srilanka to reach final! The weakest bowling department they have, there are no genuine fast bowler and no good spiner! Tendulkar, Raina, R Sharma are bowling before 25 over in the innings!

Posted by RISHI2016 on (March 20, 2012, 5:51 GMT)The format itself is quite interesting...with new icc head to head criterion, comments here would have been different had India lost the match to pakistan, sri lankans wouldhave smelled chance here. furthermore if they would not have won with a bonus point all three teams would have had 4 points each (head to head wins wont have mattered ) and team with best run rate would have qualified... no doubt bangladesh did themselves world of good by defeating Indians... true potential of players dont get highlighted by one off matches and wid nearly 70 percent of cricketing fan base in asia... the format should have been more long... asia cup can happen once in 3 years or four years wid more matches or introduction of teams like afghanistan and hong kong....

So Team Pak... keep ur fingers crossed and keep hoping that Bangladesh Wins today ... well I would say save ur time cuz SL will win for sure and it will be again India V Pak !!! Inshallah !!!
Posted byI will be devastated if SL lose today.. Another Kohli masterclass will go in vain. However the positive side is ODI will become a lot more competitive with Bangladesh joining the elite group of consistent teams. West Indies spiced up things by wining against Australia after 8 long years and now if Bangladesh reaches the final in tournament which has Pak, India and Srilanka.. then it will do a world of good for ODIs

Posted by popcorn on (March 20, 2012, 4:57 GMT)For the second time, in less than a month, India cannot be in a Final on its own merit. It is dependent on favours from other countries. Then why should it be allowed into the Final? Do they think Bangla Desh, who walloped India, are there to make up the numbers? Justice wiill be done if India is asked to pack up its bags tonight and go back to India.

Posted by Lakpj on (March 20, 2012, 3:07 GMT)Who ever wins the toss will have a big chance to win, because of the due factor in the 2nd innings. The team batting 1st have to pile on over 350 to ensure that they are safe. This is really pathetic a result of a game is very much dependent on the toss.

As an Indian fan, I take some hope from that fact. That isn't anyway to say that Bangladesh will not win tomorrow's match. As you said, Bangladesh played excellently well in the two matches already played. They were almost in the winning track till 44th over against Pakistan and then won the match against India. I am not taking any credit away from you. I admit you are more deserved to play the final with Pakistan. But as an Indian fan, I have to wish that my team reaches the final.

Posted by lakshitha.jayakody on (March 20, 2012, 0:45 GMT)After 90 ODIs, Kapugedara only scored 1,450 runs at average of 21.5%. Is is worth to keep a batsmen of that statistics, after this much chances!!! But he has to be given a one last shot. Don't give him 01 year so absences, give him some good 10-15 matches to play continuously. By the way, send him as the opener as he has showed that he is not confident play 4 down or 5 down, with pressure. But even after 100 matches, if he is not showing any progress, then some serious discussions need to be done. Back in 2006/07, Kapugedara was a very promising batsmen...god knows what happened to him!!!

Posted by AnoMaLy on (March 20, 2012, 0:02 GMT)Keep dreaming Bangladesh - So you beat India once and you think you are world champs? Haha have you not seen Kohli's recent thrashings. India will give you the biggest whopping ever when you play them next. SL is going to own Bangladesh tonight and show them their real place in world cricket.
Posted by kriskini on (March 20, 2012, 0:01 GMT)HOW CAN WE beleive the true nationality of a person comenting here. People smartly say I am a Srilankan, I am a Pakistani... Hard to believe it.
Posted byBangladesh's biggest problem is that they don't have enough wickets to unleash themselves. In the match with India Tamim and Juhurul took care of that and I think if tamim once again goes over 50 no matter how slow and there is a lot of wickets left after over 15-20 then Bangladesh has the potential to do somewhere around 300 most likely less but still, they have form in batting, fielding, and bowling. How often do we see that happening?
Posted by liteniro0007 on (March 19, 2012, 23:53 GMT)If Sri Lanka wins I am happy cuz it's another win from our team, But if Bangladesh wins I will be still happy cuz it's nice to see them getting better and better ;D

Posted by DRamenaden on (March 19, 2012, 23:18 GMT)Sri Lanka would never throw a match, but Bangla will be more motivated with the Lankans tired from a long season & CB series and they know they have a test series v ENG to prep for in 4 days so they might not have the focus for this game. Bangla is at home n know they are a win away from the finals which is rare feat for them. Im a sri lanka fan but will be rooting for Bangla tom.!

Posted by GreenGoat on (March 19, 2012, 22:32 GMT)@indians - no one's gonna throw the match. they will play as professionals and will look to win. that we can promise. everyone talks of teams throwing dead rubber matches, but it never happens that way.. players of any country have a pride, they want to be best...
however, my (and SL's) worry is that Bangla will anyway beat the living daylights out of our tired team... India - we will do our best, but no promises :D

Your team is already at No.4 in ODI rankings and another loss they will be pushed to no.5. Since Sri Lanka does cannot play in overseas conditions and cannot play in asian conditions, they do not have to intentionally lose against Bangladesh. They will beat them anyways!
Posted bySri Lanka have been knocked out of the Asia Cup. But they can still spoil Bangladesh or India's chances of qualifying for the final. Earlier this month, they knocked India out of the CB series after beating Australia in the tournament's final league game.
Posted by swordfish8 on (March 19, 2012, 21:58 GMT)Sri Lanka is going to loose to Bangladesh today, remember "Randiv No-Ball Prevent Sehwag From Getting Century" they will do anything to prevent India to FINALS. SL dont play in the spirit of the game!!

Posted by wjkalana on (March 19, 2012, 21:19 GMT)Well for my Indian friends I have a strong feeling that Sri Lanka might give this match to Bangladesh I. Order to knock India out. Well there is a reason for it as well, Sri Lanka is tired to play this series I don't know who agree to have this series. India and Sri Lanka both involved in cb series and it was a known fact either team will go into the finals and make it difficult for them to come In to this tournament. Just look at how many matches Sri Lanka played for the last 15 days. I think it's more than 7 matches and motto of them are prity hard games. Other than this Sri Lanka will give this match to Bangladesh I m quite positive about it. India try not to depend on other teams when you play multinational tournament. Now back to back do Two seriess India depend on other teams. In CB series they depend on Australia and now they depend on Sri Lanka. This is why we call India not world champion they are call home champion.
Posted by binojpeter on (March 19, 2012, 21:11 GMT)@BDcricketlover I did not count bilateral series. What I meant was tournaments involving more than 2 major countries. I am sorry. I should have added that clause to my original statement.
Posted by Pak_Fan86 on (March 19, 2012, 21:06 GMT)I must praise the attitude of Indian people becuz all SRI and BD fans are targeting them but still they are commenting back. That should be the attitude. And yes dont understand how SRI can support their own team to lose just to get india out. If BD play well tomorrow, they gonna win, but i wish SRI win and India qualify for the final. Pak ind final gonna be great. Hope Pak beats ind and gets the cup. Long live Pak-Ind friendship!!!
Posted by binojpeter on (March 19, 2012, 21:06 GMT)@TrevorMax So when India chased down the score of 320 against SL in 36.3 overs at Hobart or 330 in 47.5 overs at Pakistan at Mirpur or SL chase down 271 against Australia in the CB series 2nd final or 280 by Aus in one of CB series league matches, will you say that batsmen of losing side played slowly. You never know what target is good for a pitch when batting first. You try to play according to the situation and conditions and make as much runs you can make. It also depends on the ability and experience of the bowlers in defending the total and tactics of the captain. There is no one single factor for win or loss.
Posted by Omarrz on (March 19, 2012, 21:02 GMT)I don't know who I want to win. If Bangladesh wins, it will be a huge achievement for them which I am happy for. The win will also ensure Pakistan's second Asia Cup even before the final. But on the other hand, I want India to play final. This will be another opportunity for Pakisan to take revenge. As a Pakistani fan, we don't have anything to loose now. Pakistan have lost so many times in this 21st century to India that another loss would not hurt us much, we are pretty numb by now.
Posted by iammadhu on (March 19, 2012, 21:01 GMT)those who complain india lost due to sachin slow scoring are not thinking properly. check kohli's strike rate - was even slower. and what about the bowlers?

Congrats to all Indians the way they played against us the other day n i don't understand why so much negativity for Indian team from Srilankans fan? India played v well and deserve to be in final. If BD play well tomorrow they gonna win, n that wud be good for them, but i personally want SRI to win tomorrow's match so we can have another Indo-Pak match and guess what? it will be Asia Cup final. @Empty-Sequence @cool2cool and other comments regarding Indo-Pak friendship and good cricketing relation, great brothers, you seem to have good mentality. And by the way, Virat Kholi played v v well, i think he played the inning of his lifetime (so far, becuz i know he will have so many). Pak-Ind final gonna be great. I really hope Pak beats Ind this time but even if they don't, i will be happy for Indians, becuz they deserve it! cheers and just enjoy cricket :)

Posted by TrevorMax on (March 19, 2012, 20:37 GMT)Sachin Tendulkar's slow century is why India is at Sri Lanka's mercy. A Personal Milestone that is meaningless, yet could cause India to crash out of the tournament.

Posted by navN69 on (March 19, 2012, 20:28 GMT)To all the srilankans who wants their team to loose. shame on u. they want india to be knocked out coz SL is always getting beaten by Ind. History says Srilankans are fighters, will get to see ruthless SL thrashing Banga in thier own den. Even 4 seniors are resting remaining 11 is good enough to beat bangla. Toss is crucial...
Posted bySrilanka already lost two matches. And they are the lions and they should win this last Bangladesh match to have their pride. The lion loses this means hopeless for the lions
Posted byI'm an India supporter. If BD wins and knocks India out, well stuff happens. Surprising how many Sri Lankan supporters in the comments seem to almost be willing their team to lose, since that will knock India out. Really, people?
Posted bysl and ind will go to airport by same bus i guess, india always let their small brother to handle their fate and ngty bro always play with india's fate, anyway my love for india is back, largely due to kohli, so since we are out i will be supporting india :C, india all the way.
Posted by frank2011 on (March 19, 2012, 20:10 GMT)i'm a huge fan of sri lankan cricket... i love the brand of cricket they play... but on this occasion i hope that they don't win because Bangladesh have played well and deserve to be in the finals... plus it will kick India out which will be a bonus for every non-indian cricket fan :)
Posted by@Empty-Sequence haha is it? Pakistan has been best in this tourney? Then how did they loose to Indians? ;)
Posted by darsh127 on (March 19, 2012, 20:00 GMT)OHK, for all sri lankans whining about INDIA having to depend, first of all, it's cause you lost and are out of the tournament and second, you have been booked for the last match, if India had the last game, you probably would be the ones depending , oops, u would already be kicked out D:

We all know you guys have had lots Cricket and injuries to couple of crucial players lately, but that is not an excuse....I hate to say this but look at India, they had horrid times in England and Australia..They lost to Bangladesh the other day, but they keep re-emerging and bouncing back with gutsy performances....In CB series, I saw some of best ODI Cricket played by Sri lanka in recent times...But In Asia Cup I see quite the opposite...Where is the consistency? It is ok to loose with a fight...But I saw neither hunger for success nor the fighting spirits in those two lost matches, only because of that we are out of the tournament, not because of the injuries or too much Cricket. Please tell some of your troop to practise catching, it happened in CB series and noSanga, We all know you guys are more than capable to beat anyone and our team has got tons of talent....

Posted by cancerian22515 on (March 19, 2012, 19:54 GMT)i accept @ yohandf1984 srilanka should go hard at bd and prove that they are not minnows to anybody more . they should play their natural game and infact with youngsters they should bd comfortably i love SL crick since 1996 and iam a die hard fan of mahela, tilakratane and kumar they should thrash bd by atleast 100 runs cheers to SL. they will surely win. congrats SL.
Posted byBangladesh must win this one... We don't get this kind of chance every day....So BD tigers should take it personly and grab the opportunity with both hands.... Best of luck BAGLADESH..... We want another ROAR,.....COME ON......
Posted by i_amVIVA on (March 19, 2012, 19:46 GMT)it will be a hard battle for bangla to beat sl, where they've no win in the tournament. sl will try hard to go off with a win in the bag, irrespective of india goes thru or not. but with the new found nasir/ nizam and others, with the new found consistency, and most of all, with the new found confidence playing in their mother soil, bangla possesses a great chance to winning it off to go to the final. at the end, sl will be happy to losing thou, as india, their arch rival will be kicked out once again as in aus just weeks ago. what a drama, what a climex, what are emotions in the subcontinent, the place with king of emotions in the world. that's the color of asia cup bangladesh has given to this tournament this time. i'll be watching far far away, from this land of 'no cricket', from thousands of miles away. good luck to both the teams, especially my beloved bangladesh.
Posted by SajithKalinga on (March 19, 2012, 19:43 GMT)First time in my life I want/wish my team to lose tomorrow. Go Bangali go...... You all may know why I am sooo stupid.
Posted by KingOwl on (March 19, 2012, 19:41 GMT)SL should play only the 100% fit players. No point taking any risks. A win in this match means nothing, whereas an injury to a key player will be a huge problem, in view of the test series against England next week.
Posted bySri Lanka obviously have the better batsmen and bowlers , but Bangladesh , oh boy there on the roll ! :) specially everyone is in form ! The Lankans are probably tired after their busy schedule so I don't think they will take today's game THAT seriosuly (fingers crossed) and I hope that we can show the same game we played against India and Pakistan today ! :D looking for a win ! ;) GO TIGERS !
Posted byIf Pakistan meets Bangladesh in final then one thing is for sure, india will say we have done our job thats I hate to hear. Let Indians come and face us in final as it gona be hell of a game. India wont get hurt if they get knocked out but they will shattered and destroy if ak beats them in final.
Posted byAs an Indian fan I want to see India in the finals. Still I wish the very best to the Bangla team. If there is one team that has showed some spine in this tournament, it's Bangladesh. Pak with all their bowling prowess was nothing in front the Indian lineup. The Indian bowling attack brings disgrace to the word attack'. And the Sri Lankan team with all the media hype about captaincy change has failed to meet expectations. Thus Bangladesh is easily the best team.
Posted by navi1 on (March 19, 2012, 19:16 GMT)Good Luck to Bangladesh team and they deserve to win the cup....

India can return home after a record chase victory against a best bowling side in the world. Yes Pakistan has the best bowlers in the world taking into account only sub continent pitches.

Posted by MadhavY on (March 19, 2012, 18:55 GMT)@DRamenaden Well said, Bangladesh is showing signs of improvement, and now it's a big challenge for minnows Srilanka to upset Bangladesh... I hope Bangladesh wins this match and goes on to win the championship. but LOL,,, Srilanka.. everybody loves to play with you guys just so that they can win ha ha..
Posted byI pray and hope that the bangladeshi win give a good fight. Its not all about winning. If you play a game you have to win and also loose so it doesn't matter if we loose but we will give a good fight. Expectation high guys.
Posted by BravoBravo on (March 19, 2012, 18:47 GMT)@Sabbir Love: You exactly right. IND fate has always depended on how other teams in a multilateral series perform. Recent one was CBseries and many competition before that. However SL does not have anything to loose, if they win it will be huge favor to IND. BD is looking pretty good, and it is a 50/50 chance.
Posted by Harmony111 on (March 19, 2012, 18:46 GMT)What a bunch of losers these Lankans are !!! They are happy to see their team being beaten 3-0 in the Asia Cup just so that India go out? What a shameful attitude.
Posted by Peter_allan on (March 19, 2012, 18:45 GMT)I feel that SL should play in the junior players and rest the senior players as they have been overplayed
Posted byIn the "Quotes" section, you mean "Mahela Jayawardene does not want to leave _Sri Lanka_ winless."
Posted byBD team hardly show a DIE HARD performance against big teams in back to back matches. Their inconsistency is the main problem and that is hampering their progress in world arena. Bangladesh wins many matches like a unbeatable side (include the last match). However, in very next match they break just like a shattered glass. I always concern about their consistency rather than talents. Talents is there but FLOWNESS of being more consistent is missing. They need someone who can boost up their confidence level and that will propel them to become one of the strong cricket teams in the world.
Posted byI hope BANGLADESH will win . Prayer for it . Hope our srilankan's agree friend with me .

Posted by ranjeetc on (March 19, 2012, 18:36 GMT)Being an Indian fan, I wish the best team wins Sri Lanka or Bangladesh. I'm always baffled by the animosity the Sri Lanka fans show towards an Indian qualification. How can they wish their own team to lose so that India doesn't make it to the finals ? What happened to the support for your own team ?
Posted byIf Bangladesh beats Srilanka they will through to the finals because they have India in League games. But what about Pakistan... India have also beaten Pakistan but India will not go to finals if Srilanka Loses??? Any idea whay?????
Posted by Quddus-Mamu on (March 19, 2012, 18:32 GMT)Bangladesh should try the new fast bowler Abul Hassan instead of Shahadat Hossain. Shahadat Hossain was too expensive last two games.

Posted by cimrsimg on (March 19, 2012, 18:20 GMT)For the bravery and commitment shown by Bangla tigers, I feel they should win. But being an Indian fan, and esp when India Pakistan rarely plays now a days, want them to loose :(. Let the cricket win. All the best to all.
Posted bySL wont take it easy...If they loose this game their self-confidence will go down...As an Indian guess BAN has a slight edge than SL...
Posted by howzzattt on (March 19, 2012, 18:15 GMT)Though I am an ardent Indian Fan, I wish Bangladesh win this match against SL. They are no longer minnows and an experience for playing a final of the four nation tournament will stand them in good stead for the future. They look like the Lankans of the late 90's....
Posted by howzzattt on (March 19, 2012, 18:13 GMT)India should concentrate more on building up a good pace attack. Munaf Patel is back in action from an injury and he's bowling well. Going by his fitness, he should just be in the ODI scheme of things for India. The best ODI fast bowlers could be Praveen Kumar, Vinay Kumar, Munaf Patel, Ashok Dinda, Abhimanyu Mithun et al.
But for tests, India should develop the following....Umesh Yadav, Varun Aaron, Sresaanth, Ishant Sharma, Pradeep Sangwan, Jaydev Unadkat et al
I wonder where is Aashish Nehra.....Poor guy has done well enough to be in the ODI scheme of things at least.
Posted by cool2cool on (March 19, 2012, 18:11 GMT)@Sir_Freddie_Flintoff: India's loss to BD was as good (or should I say bad) as England's loss against the same opposition in WC. So will you say that BD destroyed England also in that WC game?

Posted by BanglaBandhu on (March 19, 2012, 17:27 GMT)The statistics show that SL must be the favourites for the match. However the statistics do not show the new found confidence and never say attitude the tigers have gained. SL are all ready battle weary due to an intense schedule and have failed miserably so far in this tournament. I maybe bias but I honestly think Bangladesh will win and may even go on to beat Pakistan.
Posted by yohandf1984 on (March 19, 2012, 17:14 GMT)Sri Lanka needs to go hard at Bangladeshi and win this . That is not to favour anybody but purely to regain confidence before England tests. Mahroof should give way to Eranga ; a new promisiong fast bowler and Malinga can make way to Sachitra . Because both Mahroof and Malinga are suffering minor injuries . Good luck SL .

As for Pakistan, they clearly are the better side among the 4 and should win the Major Cup for their Fans. As for India, Our Job is done. Long Live Indo-Pak Friendly Rivalry!!! And SriLanka, They and there's fan never gave any importance to the ASIA cup as it is being played on Flat Wickets, After all they are the expertise on playing Fast, Bouncy & Swinging Conditions.

Also in the Pakistan game the bangladeshi team had almost done it, they faltered only \in the end , till then they was in control. Also Sri Lanka would like to salwage some prde by wnning alteast one game. We can expect one cracker of a game.

Posted byBangladesh are most likely going to beat Sri Lanka now. They can no longer be known as the "Minnows" because in the past two years alone, they have already beaten the likes of England, West Indies, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and now India. Sri Lanka as you may know are out of the tournament now so its very unlikely they will care about this last match against Bangladesh considering the fact they have a very important two match Test series next week. You must also acknowledge the fact that the Sri Lankan's have had a heavy schedule this year and are clearly tired. It looks to me as Bangladesh will meet Pakistan in the final and that would be best since Bangladesh are the hosts.
