The morning after what Mushfiqur Rahim described as "the most incredible day in our cricketing history", Bangladesh were grappling with the prospect of an even more incredible day. Ahead of Thursday, there's only one topic of discussion in Dhaka: how to get tickets to the Asia Cup final. The Shere Bangla stadium seats about 25,000 but judging by the frenzy for tickets and passes, the stadium would have been full even if its capacity was increased multi-fold.

Instead of being weighed down by the pressure of playing the biggest game of their lives, Bangladesh were buoyant after a week of stirring performances. "The way we have played all through the tournament shows that as a team we have improved in the last three weeks," Mushfiqur said. "Not only in performance but we have also overcome mental barriers, like winning two close matches. If you win matches like that the confidence of the whole team lifts. Also, it helps self-belief when you perform well consistently against top teams. The most important challenge for us was to perform well in every match."

The other source of motivation for Bangladesh was their constant improvement in every game. "If you noticed, we lost a very close match to Pakistan, then the next match [against India] we played better and played even better in the last match [against Sri Lanka]," he said. "This was our aim because if you play consistently well against the big teams then you will be able to win matches regularly."

Mushfiqur tipped Pakistan as favourites and called for another collective effort from his team-mates to topple them. "The secret of the success in this tournament so far is simple - not just one or two [players] are performing, which used to happen in the past," he said. "In this tournament, Tamim [Iqbal], [Mahmudullah] Riyad, Shakib [Al Hasan], Nasir [Hossain] in the batting department have been playing well together. In the bowling department Raj bhai [Abdur Razzak], Mashrafe bhai [Mortaza], Nazmul bhai [Hossain] in the one match he played, Shakib, everyone is performing. So if we can keep that up tomorrow, we are hoping we will win."

Mushfiqur picked the Pakistan openers, who have put on two big stands already in the Asia Cup, and offspinner Saeed Ajmal as big threats to Bangladesh. "Pakistan's bowling attack is obviously very strong, and at the same time their top order is very strong with the likes of [Mohammad] Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed," he said. "So if we can take some early wickets we can put them under pressure. And against their bowling we have to handle Saeed Ajmal well - which we did in the first match although he took two wickets at the end - and hopefully Umar Gul, then we can do well."

Though this is only Bangladesh's second appearance in a tournament final, Mushfiqur said the team wouldn't be fazed by the occasion. "The pressure is always there," he said. "After winning the second match and before the match against Sri Lanka people were saying that 'You must win against Sri Lanka'. As if after beating India, Sri Lanka were a team like Kenya or Scotland, that we would win in a canter. But as I said the way we are playing, with five or six of us performing well together, even if one or two fail you have the confidence."

While the word 'upset' featured heavily in newspaper headlines over the past week, Mushfiqur was keen to point out that qualifying hadn't been a fluke. "When you reach the finals of a tournament with three top teams, and you win twice and play pretty consistently, I don't think it's an upset," he said. "It was a well-planned and well-executed progress." That progress has already given their supporters two reasons to celebrate; all they want is one more.

the batting side waiting for UMAR GUL.

Posted by eglets on (March 22, 2012, 13:47 GMT)

misbah please no give bowling to umer gul otherwise u will lose the match.Umer gul fix the match like the world cup semi final pak vs india 2011, for a proof watch the semi final highlights when Umar akmal was playing well and we had a chance to win and he looked very upset.

Posted by eglets on (March 22, 2012, 12:49 GMT)

I hope umer gul will not repeat the samething like semifinal wc 2011 pak vs india

its not BD played well..actually its both Indians n Srilankans played casual cricket against a weak nation..sometimes it happens..still i feel Ireland is a better team dan BD...after all cricket is a funny game...

Very poor showing of captaincy from Mushfiq on that last over, PERIOD.

Posted by ShamimH on (March 22, 2012, 11:57 GMT)

Just when things were looking good for Bangladesh till the Captain makes a monumental blunder by picking Shahadat for the last over. And Shahadat gives away 19 runs. Bangladesh seems unable to seal the deal when things are looking good. At this time they really to play smart and wrong choices will not get them to the promised land.

Posted by   on (March 22, 2012, 11:25 GMT)

Bangladesh has played well yes . But some of the comments here are frankly looking like bangla fans are boasting . Beating a weak Indian Team and a tired Srilankan Team is nothing . Will really see their improvement when South africa or australia get there .

Dear all Bangla fans, loving our team does not mean dis respecting great cricketers of other nations. By doing so our country looses respect. I am pained by the arrogant nature of my own countrymen.

Posted by gautam1s on (March 22, 2012, 9:59 GMT)

CHILL Guys after reading most of the comments i figured that rather than commenting on cricketing skills people are taking about regards for the other country.Dont disrespect teh other country. BD is playing some fearless cricket at teh mement and hope the can repeat teh same in teh Finals too. Cricket needs BD for extending its fan base and making asian cricket strong. Hope this ASIA CUP can do for BD in teh same was as the world cup DONE FOR SRI LANKA. And as far as India and BD is concerned both are bery good friends and let them remain that way only................. Com'on BD this Asia CUP is yours and hope many more come in future also............

well played BD cricket team..go and achieve that extra mile -Indian cricket team fan..

Posted by amitgarg78 on (March 22, 2012, 8:34 GMT)

Well played BD! Beating 2 top teams was great show, but till they do it regularly, their wins will be called upsets! The fans may not like it, but that's exactly how it goes. Even if they win the Asia cup, and I hope they do, the true turnaround is a bit of a distance away Becoz their opportunity of playing top nations is limited.

Posted by   on (March 22, 2012, 8:21 GMT)

The T20 leagues help host nation but only in shorter format on feather beds where even edges fly for boundaries. Once you play in slightly helpful conditions/bigger grounds, these edges will fly to keeper or slip cordon. Don't read too much after mere 2 ODIs, still both bowling and batting look pedestrian for Bangladesh and they r bound to struggle outside sub continent which is what India found immediately after World Cup.

Making the final no upset....

Posted by AjuNair on (March 22, 2012, 7:36 GMT)

All the best to Mushfiqur.... I like the way he treat his treat members ..calling the way "bhai"....he created a good atmosphere in the team and that is reflecting everyone's performance... The success is because he had set this sort of winning standard within the team..It is not "upsets" , they are winning the games comfortably by playing good cricket...They need to continue the spirit...Nasir Hossain continued to play good cricket since his debut..Tamim Iqbal took much responsibility after all controversies.. He should have to carry forward his starts..Mortaza on the other hand starts well...All together team is doing very good...This is going to be a honeymoon period for Bangaladesh cricket...All the very best....

Bangladesh has certainly performed exceptionally well in this Asia Cup tournament so far..Beating India and Sri Lanka the two finalist in the last World Cup tournament was a commendable feat.Nothing would take the gloss off those achievements .However in today's finals Bangladesh will definitely find Pakistan a tough nut to crack.Pakistan's bowling attack is far superior to that of Bangladesh .Where the batting and fielding are concerned Pakistan has improved considerably. There is a very high probability of Pakistan lifting the Asia Cup.

Posted by   on (March 22, 2012, 7:14 GMT)

to Wick.roy, you Indian r firing on your own fire. You need a lot of net practice. Try to comment in regarded way. Learn how to give respect to other nation.

Posted by BanglaBandhu on (March 22, 2012, 7:05 GMT)

@ chennaicricfan - BD fans are not boasting we nearly beat PAK - what we are saying is, check the progress through the tournament. BD are in this position because they nearly beat PAK, bt IND and Bt SL - this is not boasting - this is a fact!

Any intelligent player, manager or cricket fan will look at the last time PAK and BD met. BD should have one that game and hopefully will learn from their mistakes. I still think PAK may win but of course I am hoping BD will surprise us all again - we adore and love the team and the happiness they have brought to us all.

Posted by   on (March 22, 2012, 7:04 GMT)

Not to devalue Bangladesh but in reality this is nothing. India have been going through the motions for an year now. SL were not motivated after a gruelling series in SA and Aus. They did not have many of their players too. Pak - yes they were in a better frame of mind but they are not so keen about Asia cup. Cricket needs a strong BD but they have been disappointing - so many years yet they have nothing to show. They have lost to Zimbabwe and Kenya too. Ireland too comes close. maybe Afghanistan would beat them too. Yes BD has beaten most test playing nations but not when they were serious. Except in the WC 2007 against India (maybe one or two here and there)...So they have to start winning consistently in "serious" matches. Plus they were always chasing in this tournament. Defending any total is tough in these conditions with 2 new balls as well. Hope BD wins - Cricket needs more countries to keep it alive. BD must do more given the fan base they have.

Posted by BanglaBandhu on (March 22, 2012, 6:56 GMT)

@ Nikhil Chouguley ... how many excuses did you make for India in your comments? 1) India sacrificed the cup for SAchin's 100. 2) We took BD lightly 3) We beat two teams (SL and PAK) to make us feel good about our previous performances.

Feel free to throw in any more excuses for IND but guess what ? ... it doesn't matter! IND are, (once again - lol) out of a major tournament at the hands of BANGLADESH. Oh .... you're excuses speak volumes for the respect you have for BAN ... good luck with that ... bye bye

Posted by   on (March 22, 2012, 6:52 GMT)

@ Wick.roy

Thats what we use to say confidence not overexcited oh yea you could say all bangladeshi got excited... to be really, they should beeeeee ...

why pakistan was not able to beat Mediocre Indian Bowling attack on flat track and same with sri lnaka ?

They beat India:-- No excuse (They played better) They beat Sri lanka no excuse (They Played Better) They are going tol beat Pakistan with no excuse :D

P.S: Pakistan fan But Misbah Dam.... all knows wat he deserves

Posted by Dunwall on (March 22, 2012, 6:50 GMT)

@Wick.roy - These are petty excuses came from a loosing team fan (which im sure you are). Every match BD won in this tournament becoz of their outstanding performance. And everyone takes home advantages...when IND goes to SA, SA wont prepare a track that helps IND batsman more than their fast bowlers, will they? You would be foolish not to take home advantages.

Posted by   on (March 22, 2012, 6:26 GMT)

Interesting. Seems like BD was the missing link in the pak-ind relationship. Now with BD in the finals, a lot more of indians seem to be supporting pakistan. Cricket does bring the world together! GJ BD in helping the impossible pak and ind relations to improve.

Posted by Mithusdp on (March 22, 2012, 6:03 GMT)

Keep the team spirit on Mushfiq. I think pakistan is generally weak in chasing target, so even you lost the toss and if you invited to bat there will be huge pressure on PAK on chase if you can score 270-280. The supporter will be right behind you Insallah! KEEP ROARING TIGER !!

Posted by hotcric01 on (March 22, 2012, 5:51 GMT)

Pakistan has a great bowling line up.But they need more attacking, consistent fast bowlers than cheema or riaz. They missed amir, asif.India's bowling line up has been too week without aggressive fast bowlers like Zaheer. It has no much difference with bangladesh. They need to ishant back to the short format and improve his ability.Ashwin also must be improved.Sri Lanka also must find aggressive fast bowler to support Malinga and Randiv back to the game.

Posted by   on (March 22, 2012, 5:50 GMT)

@cooljack_143: Are you indian fan? What about your team who wins only on theire home ground? Bangladesh have beaten England at english condition but your team has been blown away by them. Your tema should had to win at least one game as playing from too many days? Making any sense? Come on and cheer for Bangladesh team :)

Posted by Tanvir_Bd on (March 22, 2012, 5:42 GMT)

Bangladesh cricket team has given us the opportunity to be proud. This team is performing consistently. If Bangladeshi batsman can handle perfectly gul and azmal, we will win the match. The Pakistan team will be under pressure because there is nothing to lose for Bangladesh. Go tiger go ....give your roar to the rest of the cricket world. Best of luck for BD cricket in the final from millions of Bangladeshi fans.

The tournament who can win world eye to him. Bangladesh is now a most valuable team beat by two world favorite team. Good luck Mushfiq good luck BD Team.

Posted by Rahul_78 on (March 22, 2012, 5:08 GMT)

This is a BIG game for Bangla boys. After playing 10+ years of international cricket here is a chance to put something substantial on the resume. They are playing well as a unit and their batting and bowling is clicking as a unit. Pakistan is on the road for long time now and their batting is always susceptible. B'desh need to take this final step and it could well prove to be a renaissance victory for them a la 1996 win for Lankan boys in Australia which lead the way for the team to bigger and better things. Kohli has proved it that with attacking cricket and aggressive attitude even Malinga, Gul and Ajmal can be concurred. I just hope that Bangla boys don't get a big stage fright and surrender meekly. Good luck Bangladesh. I am sure majority will be cheering for the under dog.

Posted by ims28761 on (March 22, 2012, 4:33 GMT)

Well done Bangladesh, today will be the major test for Bangladesh against pakistan and if they beat them as they did for India and Srilanka then of course everyone can believe that this was not a fluke. Bangladesh has played well in this tournament but then with same number of points if a team cannot qualify it is bad luck. Something needs to be done to make the point system more fair and meaningful.

Posted by Anurag_India on (March 22, 2012, 4:33 GMT)

Success of Bangladesh has been heart warming, even though it has unfortunately come at the cost of our team. All the best Bangladesh today, hoping for a good game and may the better team win.

Posted by chennaicricfan on (March 22, 2012, 4:30 GMT)

Upset does not mean it is 'lucky' or a 'fluke'. It just means that what was widely expected did not happen. In simple words, if you asked a 100 people before this tournament if BD would enter the final, at least 90 (and even that is very conservative) would have said no....But it happened. That is what you call an upset Mr.Rahim.

Posted by chennaicricfan on (March 22, 2012, 4:22 GMT)

When a team is boasting about how it "almost" won the game with Pakistan, it is pretty obvious where they stand....still a long long way to go BD.

Posted by Fast_Track_Bully on (March 22, 2012, 4:05 GMT)

What if BD lost toss...then the real story will begin...if they can win by setting a target and defending it, we can assure that BD are improving. Otherwise we have to consider it as a toss luck.

Posted by geeps on (March 22, 2012, 3:47 GMT)

Technically when an under ranked team beats a higher ranked team it's called an "upset". If BD want to get rid of the underdog tag they have to start winning more regularly. Even the SL team were considered underdogs before the 1996 world cup.

Posted by barath_narayanan on (March 22, 2012, 3:42 GMT)

All the best. may the best team win :)

Posted by Kadmin on (March 22, 2012, 3:04 GMT)

I agree with "abiindia". Both India and Sri Lanka been playing cricket overseas for 6 months. If they have been prepared themselves to the challenge, this would be an interesting series. I don't think they put their best effort to play in the finals. They could have done much better than that. Anyhow GOOD LUCK to both teams in finals.

@nirikh, thanks for your advice to India..it will be interesting how BD takes if their team wins on thursday..Suddenly, they will start calling themselves as world beaters..Already, I have seen some comments saying they have the world's best allrounder..few years ago, they were saying that Ashraful is the world's best young batsman..It is good to keep your hopes alive by seeing some flashes of brilliance here and there, but don't start belittling other teams with these few victories

Posted by Bang_La on (March 22, 2012, 1:41 GMT)

@Chandramouli Chandrasekaran, thank you for your nice cricketing comment. We are trying, wish us luck. Thanks again.

Good game by Bangladesh!! if they can be consistent, they can be a feared team in the world, primarily bcos there are so many allrounders in the team, practically every batsman can bowl in that team!!! gluck both teams for the finals... may the best team win!!!

Posted by   on (March 21, 2012, 23:25 GMT)

Wud be interesting to see if they can set a target. chase and win seems to be the story in bangladesh.... like jayawardene said - potentially both captain wud be practising their tossing skills

I would like to say only simple way that play the game as a game, wish you all the best for today because it's a final match LIVE IN BANGLADESH NATIONAL STEDIUM AT MIRPUR,

Posted by nirikh on (March 21, 2012, 22:30 GMT)

@Ovick: Probably their IT guys and media people are now doing calculations to find what other milestones Tendulkar can try to achieve, so that he can keep playing in the expense of "whatever happens to the team and the underdeveloped bowling attack"!

Posted by nirikh on (March 21, 2012, 22:25 GMT)

@ReverseSweepIndia: very practical and critical points for every cricket team. Comments like these really help. @Nikhil: what India really cares about is their media and media-genrated hypes. That's why a funny thing like 100th Century becomes soooo important that everything else even the team's ever-low bowling standard does not get any attention. Look at Clarke making no obstacle on the declaration when he could easily turn his 329 into a 400 and world record. He just simply did not care, because the team and the game of cricket was the most important thing to him. We should learn from the 70s-80s West Indies and the 90s-2000s Aussies about how cricket is played.

Posted by Tokai69 on (March 21, 2012, 22:15 GMT)

One thing I should notice PAK fans are way constructive than IND, and put lot of hearts to the game. IND's advice to BAN are the cliches all Bangla kids know already. No matter what happen tomorrow, I'd like to see a competitive match that we all can remember for long.

Posted by sk12 on (March 21, 2012, 22:14 GMT)

Nope, it certainly is an upset - not fluke or luck, but beating us and SL is definitely an upset. But win this tournament, then from next time it wont be so much of an upset. And I wish you good luck for doing so.

Posted by JoyBangladesh71 on (March 21, 2012, 22:13 GMT)

Whichever country plays better on Thursday will win. I hope it is Bangladesh, but am proud of what Bangladesh has been able to achieve thus far regardless of the outcome on Thursday. For all those people that love to belittle the accomplishments of another team....wake up!!! Bangladesh played well and beat your team. It is amazing how many people here are coming up with excuses for why India lost or SriLanka lost...You lost because you werent good enough on that day and so get over it!!!

Posted by cooljack_143 on (March 21, 2012, 22:02 GMT)

well well Mr.Mushfiqr , be Humble man..be Humble...Don't get overconfident by beating two fatigued teams and listless bowlers...Please WIN A MATCH AWAY FROM BD AND SHOW US ,THEN WE WILL ACCEPT YOU are PERFORMING..Pak is gonna win today and keep your ARROGANCE DOWN..Mr.UPSET..

Congrats Bangladesh. Not only did you win the key games, what is most important is that you played as a team with the heart and passion that reminds me of how Sri Lanka used to play in the early days in the 90's with similar passion and heart. As a Pakistani fan, this is one of those rare moments when I won't be sad if Pak lost in this final, because above all I love cricket. Good luck to all my Bengali brothers and may the best team win. I'm very happy for you guys and the way Bangladesh performed , it is great for the game of cricket.

BD has been exceptional in this tournament. Even if they win the final game they wont be in top league of cricket playing nations. If they can repeat this over a period of 2-3 years then we can consider them as one of the good cricket teams. I hope they become one. One incident that comes to my mind is Kenya making it to semis in WC 2003. I hope BD won't end up as a one tournament wonder.

Easy tigers, the last time you played away, I remember you getting walloped by Zimbabwe! I am sorry about India scrificing this cup to get Sachin's 100s out of the way. We did take BD lightly and paid the price. Does India really care about the Asia cup? not really, we just wanted to feel good about our team's return to successful ways after a thrashing in OZ. We thrashed SL and PK, but Bangladesh you got away, when it really matters India will always thump you. You have a long way to go before you can get "respect" from the cricketing world. As an Indian, I want Pak to win tomorrow, they are a better team. BD if you win, then I will be more admirative of you, but respect - translates to fear in the cricketing world, which genuinely is a long way away.

this has been a great tournament with the first and last match being between the same countries.

Since I am from Pakistan I hope they win but it definitely wont be as easy as I thought it would be before.

Well Done Bangladesh! Congrats.. You deserve a place in the Finals ! All the Best!!! At the same time, being an Indian fan, I must say that Sachin's selfish slow batting near his century cost us dearly. It is not the first time he has done that. I am great fan of his batting, he is a batting great no doubt, but he has to keep the tempo going while playing at 40th over or so!

They played superbly althrough the Tournament. They deserve to be there more than the other 3team. im not saying BD is better than the other 3Asian team but in this Asia cuo they are the most consistent team :)

Congratulations and good luck to both teams who are in the finals. Sad that India did not make it but that's the way the game is. Sorry to me Pak bros but Im rooting for Ban on this one! They deserve their first championship!!!

All the best tigers! As much as I would like Pakistan to win the Asia cup I would not mind you winning and lifting the cup because you deserve it!

As a Bangladeshi Cricket fan, I wish, boys will make it a memorable final match. Always been there for them, always will be. Win or lose, make it a great final match. Pakistan is a tough team. But They got few weaknesses too. Don't just give-up. Make them beg for It. Just play your Heart-out, And Result will come in our way...May Allah Bless You(BD cricket Team).

And few Hours ago I learned that the Price of tickets(south gallary)of the finals went up from 400 tk to 3000 tk in black market !!!....what's gonna happen to the fans who are going to come in the morning to buy tickets and watch the match????

Hopefully Bangladesh will live to the expectations , lookin at history against pakistan Get thee tissues ready incase ............... but i wish it would be not one sided match again where pakistan easily take the cup lets see ...Good luck Pakistan

Good luck to the now ferocious tigers. I know Pakistan is the favorite, but Bangladesh in the final is already a far more of their achievement. And they have a chance to win the trophy as they came very close to in their first game against Pakistan; and if that happens, that would be an ice in the cake.

Bangladesh is kidding themselves. They won against India because of selfish Sachin and won against Sri Lanka who had no interest in the comptition. Pakistan is likely to give them a serious hiding. But like a sputtering automobile, Bangladesh makes a noise every once in a while and dies down for a long while.

Would be interesting to see them defend score..they have won both their matches chasing when batting is easier slogging the ball well...it is and will be upsets over india and srilanka for they cannot repeat such performances consistently to be considered a top team...

damn right, its no upset,it is all performance...shabbash Tigers

What a moment for cricket loving country(BD), the prospect of winning Asia Cup. Pakistan will be tough cookie (but BD were close to winning the match against Pak). BD batsmen should curtail the "HARI KIRI/ KAMAKAZE" style and exercise some restraint till 35 overs b4 cutting loose towards back end. Cricket is a TOUGH game ( recent WC finalists beaten by BD making mockery of ratings) but WE LOVE this game. Jawed/Karachi

Bangladesh... just go on.. dont feel any pressure.. dont feel any fear.. just win the match and bring the cup....

Good luck Bangla! Keep the good work doing. Though not in a position to say this but few points to take care 1) keep the politicians away & do not let BCB interfere in team selection. Wonder if Tamim would have been out of squad? 2) Invest in fast bowlers. When u believe they are good, give them enough time to prosper. Consider urself lucky you got few who are skilled so nurture them. We can not get that many from 1.2b. 3) Get some one of class like Dravid/M Hussey/Sanga/Younis/Kallis who can hold the fort together. Most of ur defeats have been when there are huge collapses and no one is there to grind it out. 4) this belief which you have acquired, first time you have win against 2 world class teams (one-day teams not tests), do not let this belief go.

No Fear, No Pressure, Go Ahead Tigers! We are all with you guys.

We played well three consecutive matches in Asia cup 2012 till now. That means there is no upset. You can call a incident as upset when it occurs sudden but as everyone has seen we played well against Pakistan at our very first match in Asia cup then we beat India as well as Sri Lanka too. :)

Good luck to BD team. Pakistan's bowling attack has variety. leg break. off spin left hand spin. right hand fast bowling left hand fast bowling medium pacer. reverse swings and doosras. but as it proved not enough against India. BD has a chance. still Pakistan can be considered better balanced team in the tournament. hoefully it would be a thrilling final.

Best of luck Bangladesh. Even though I am from Pakistan and naturally would want to see my team win, but the sheer emotion, enthusiasm and joy which this Bangladeshi team has displayed thus far, has made me their fan. So even if Pakistan lose tomorrow's match, it won't hurt as much as it normally does.

Bangladesh played top class cricket to be in the final and they achieved their goal being all consistent. One more match to go! Lets hope Bangladesh wins it.
