Cheema to bowl now, he's been targeted today

41.1

Aizaz Cheema to Shakib Al Hasan, SIX, Shakib, you beauty! That's landed into the stands, length ball and it's in the slot for him, swings it high and handsome over deep midwicket

Struck for a six the first ball. Umar Gul walks up to Cheema to have a word, Misbah joins in and so does Umar Akmal. The pressure's on the bowler now. A long-on, deep midwicket and deep square leg in place. Fine leg is up.

41.2

Aizaz Cheema to Shakib Al Hasan, 1 run, shortish on middle, gets a thick inside edge through square leg for a single

41.3

Aizaz Cheema to Nasir Hossain, no run, Nasir checked his shot at the last moment, was shaping up to swing that over midwicket but decided to stab it back to the bowler in the end

Cheers of Shakib, Shakib around the ground

41.6

Aizaz Cheema to Shakib Al Hasan, 1 run, makes room for that one and chops that past point for a single to keep strike

The first two overs after the batting Powerplay would have gone according to plan for Bangladesh, still only three down. Having said so, good comeback from Cheema after being smashed for six first ball.

End of over 42 (9 runs) Bangladesh 169/3 (68 runs required from 48 balls, RR: 4.02, RRR: 8.50)

    • Shakib Al Hasan 60 (66b 6x4 1x6)
    • Nasir Hossain 28 (61b 1x4)
    • Aizaz Cheema 4-0-29-0
    • Umar Gul 7-2-36-1

Gul runs in

42.1

Umar Gul to Shakib Al Hasan, 1 run, lovely yorker from Gul, Shakib had already made room and Gul followed him, he managed to dig it out somehow and pinch a single

42.2

Umar Gul to Nasir Hossain, no run, length ball on middle and Nasir swings, mistimes, goes straight to Misbah at midwicket, would have been close had that hit at the non-striker's end

42.3

Umar Gul to Nasir Hossain, OUT, Nasir goes! Stunned silence around the ground but Shakib's still out there. Banged in short, he had made up his mind to go after that one, went for the pull, didn't get hold of it and it landed safely into the palms of a calm Misbah at midwicket

Nasir Hossain c Misbah-ul-Haq b Umar Gul 28 (110m 63b 1x4 0x6) SR: 44.44

The pressure was building on Nasir to go for it, he gave Shakib company in a recovery stand but will be disappointed for not pushing on. Mushfiqur to come in now, what a finisher he proved to be against India!

42.4

Umar Gul to Shakib Al Hasan, 2 runs, low full toss on the pads, aiming for the yorker but that's the risk when you aim for those, sometimes they turn out to be low full tosses that the batsmen can dismiss, this time it's scooped for a couple past short fine

42.5

Umar Gul to Shakib Al Hasan, no run, missed out there, Shakib had an opportunity, another low full toss outside off, made room and it was there for him to carve that past point but he didn't connect

42.6

Umar Gul to Shakib Al Hasan, FOUR, Superb improvisation from Shakib, he's tired but fiercely determined, walked across to that delivery, landed on a length and he scooped it over short fine for a boundary

End of over 43 (7 runs) Bangladesh 176/4 (61 runs required from 42 balls, RR: 4.09, RRR: 8.71)

    • Shakib Al Hasan 67 (70b 7x4 1x6)
    • Mushfiqur Rahim 0 (0b)

    • Aizaz Cheema 4-0-29-0

Shakib Al Hasan b Aizaz Cheema 68 (95m 72b 7x4 1x6) SR: 94.44

Silence around the crowd turns to gradual applause and then to a standing ovation, a fighting innings from Shakib there. Kept Bangladesh on track through his stay, but his wicket has turned the tide. Cheema, who's come in for some stick, kept it stump to stump on that occasion. Now, it's up to Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur.

43.5

Aizaz Cheema to Mahmudullah, 1 run, short of a good length outside off, pushed through cover for a single

43.6

End of over 45 (9 runs) Bangladesh 190/5 (47 runs required from 30 balls, RR: 4.22, RRR: 9.40)

    • Mushfiqur Rahim 10 (7b 1x4)
    • Mahmudullah 3 (3b)
    • Saeed Ajmal 9-2-34-1
    • Aizaz Cheema 5-0-34-1

They needed 46 off the last five overs against India with six wickets in hand, now they need 47 off five with five in hand. The common element in both is Mushfiqur

45.1

Aizaz Cheema to Mushfiqur Rahim, OUT, Mushfiqur holes out! Seemed to have struck it well, was a length ball on middle and he swung it high, Nasir Jamshed ran a few paces to his left from deep square leg and did a brilliant job keeping his eyes on it despite the distraction from the floodlights, took it just a few paces inside the ropes, superbly judged

Mushfiqur Rahim c Nasir Jamshed b Aizaz Cheema 10 (15m 8b 1x4 0x6) SR: 125.00

Cheema takes another one, a difficult task from here on for Bangladesh. Mashrafe can hit it a mile, however. Pakistan have made some timely strikes in the last few overs.

45.2

Aizaz Cheema to Mahmudullah, 1 run, Mahmudullah drives that down the ground to long-on for a single

45.3

45.4

Aizaz Cheema to Mashrafe Mortaza, (no ball) 1 run, a beamer? Slipped out of his hand there, plus a single so that's two, was a slower one there and Mashrafe moved away too quickly, the ball was dying down

45.4

Aizaz Cheema to Mahmudullah, no run, slower one bowled short outside off, didn't pick the change in pace, was through his shot too early, missed

45.5

Aizaz Cheema to Mahmudullah, 1 run, short ball on middle, pulled towards deep square leg for a single

45.6

Aizaz Cheema to Mashrafe Mortaza, 2 runs, pitched on a length outside off, crunched through wide of deep cover for a couple more runs

End of over 46 (8 runs) Bangladesh 198/6 (39 runs required from 24 balls, RR: 4.30, RRR: 9.75)

    • Mashrafe Mortaza 5 (3b)
    • Mahmudullah 5 (6b)
    • Aizaz Cheema 6-0-42-2
    • Saeed Ajmal 9-2-34-1

39 off the last four overs is still very much doable. Ajmal has one over left. Gul has two.

46.1

Umar Gul to Mahmudullah, FOUR, It's still on, folks, Mahmudullah comes down the track, takes that from a length and smashes it through the covers, powerfully struck

46.2

Umar Gul to Mahmudullah, 1 leg bye, short of a good length on leg stump, tries to turn it fine, clips the pads and they sneak a leg-bye

46.3

Umar Gul to Mashrafe Mortaza, FOUR, Mashrafe pulls off a beauty, banged in short outside leg stump, shuffles across and shovels that over short fine leg, four more

46.4

Umar Gul to Mashrafe Mortaza, FOUR, Mashrafe's proving dangerous for Pakistan, pitched up outside off, moved away and drove it hard over extra cover, length ball and it gets the treatment, he's pumped up

46.5

Umar Gul to Mashrafe Mortaza, 1 leg bye, swung wildly at that slower one, didn't pick it, stole a leg-bye in the end

46.6

Umar Gul to Mahmudullah, no run, superbly bowled by Gul but that's an expensive over, yorker and Mahmudullah did well to dig it out, Mashrafe's back on strike for the next over

End of over 47 (14 runs) Bangladesh 212/6 (25 runs required from 18 balls, RR: 4.51, RRR: 8.33)

    • Mahmudullah 9 (9b 1x4)
    • Mashrafe Mortaza 13 (6b 2x4)
    • Umar Gul 9-2-55-2
    • Aizaz Cheema 6-0-42-2

25 off 18, Bangladesh still have the edge I think. Ajmal to bowl now.

47.1

Saeed Ajmal to Mashrafe Mortaza, 3 runs, three more, superbly fielded by Azam, he ran a mile from long-off and dragged it just in, Mashrafe made room and slapped that over extra cover

47.3

Saeed Ajmal to Mashrafe Mortaza, 2 runs, moves back and swats that over extra cover for two more, Azam runs across and cuts it off

47.4

Saeed Ajmal to Mashrafe Mortaza, OUT, another twist, Mashrafe was trying to be cheeky there, Ajmal went round the stumps and tried to paddle it over short fine, couldn't, Jamshed was placed perfectly there and took a nervous catch falling ahead, effective though

Mashrafe Mortaza c Nasir Jamshed b Saeed Ajmal 18 (15m 9b 2x4 0x6) SR: 200.00

Can't say anything from here, 19 off 14 is very much on. A couple of big hits is all it takes. Mahmudullah's still out there and I've seen Abdur Razzak hit some in past

47.5

Saeed Ajmal to Abdur Razzak, no run, swing and a miss, tries to send that over long-on, it turns away and beats the bat

47.6

Saeed Ajmal to Abdur Razzak, no run, in the blockhole outside off, digs it out back to the bowler

Ajmal's finished a superb spell, though Mashrafe helped Bangladesh cover some ground that last over.

End of over 48 (6 runs) Bangladesh 218/7 (19 runs required from 12 balls, RR: 4.54, RRR: 9.50)

    • Abdur Razzak 0 (2b)
    • Mahmudullah 10 (10b 1x4)
    • Saeed Ajmal 10-2-40-2
    • Umar Gul 9-2-55-2

What an amazing final, just what the tournament needed. Who will Misbah toss the ball to? 19 off 12. Mahmudullah to face. He's got to go for it. There are people praying in the stands. Gul it is.

48.1

Umar Gul to Mahmudullah, 1 run, yorker on middle, good stuff from Gul, digs it out over the bowler for a single

48.2

Umar Gul to Abdur Razzak, 1 run, run-out appeal, drives it off a length to mid-off, Hafeez picks up and scores a direct-hit but Razzak is in, a massive stretch to make it in and he succeeds

13 from 9, neck and neck

48.4

Umar Gul to Abdur Razzak, 1 run, made room and he chased him, a yorker, dug out into the leg side for a single

48.5

Umar Gul to Mahmudullah, 1 run, he had made up his mind, third man is up and Mahmudullah targeted that area, came forward and smartly steered that but straight to Ajmal there, just the single

11 to win, 10 to tie. Will Razzak go for it?

48.6

Umar Gul to Abdur Razzak, 2 runs, gets a couple, Mahmudullah will take strike the final over, moved away to off and worked it through square leg for a couple, excellent running to make it back

End of over 49 (10 runs) Bangladesh 228/7 (9 runs required from 6 balls, RR: 4.65, RRR: 9.00)

    • Abdur Razzak 6 (6b)
    • Mahmudullah 13 (13b 1x4)
    • Umar Gul 10-2-65-2
    • Saeed Ajmal 10-2-40-2

So it's come down to the final over in this Asia Cup. Cheema will bowl it, Bangladesh have the man they want on strike. You'd still think it's Bangladesh with 9 off 6 to win. Cheema's not as experienced as the others, can he hold his nerve? No one has left the stadium. Fine leg is up in the circle.

49.1

Aizaz Cheema to Mahmudullah, 1 run, leading edge, tried to shuffle across and paddle it over short fine, went instead to third man, just the single

Mahmudullah ran into the bowler on the attempted second run, the umpire had a word with both. 8 off 5 to win

49.2

Aizaz Cheema to Abdur Razzak, 1 leg bye, moved across to work it past short fine, that's the area they'd been looking at, just a leg bye as it knocks his thighs

7 off 4. Mahmudullah will be waiting for a yorker gone bad, a full toss or a length ball he'll hope. Fine leg has gone back

49.3

Aizaz Cheema to Mahmudullah, no run, missed the slower one, was the legcutter, and Mahmudullah didn't pick that, was into the shot too early, dot ball

Some people in the stands can't take the tension. We're struggling ourselves.

49.4

Aizaz Cheema to Mahmudullah, 3 runs, What a mess, three runs, three runs, pitched up outside off, driven towards long-off, a wayward throw towards the striker's end that allows them to complete the second and Sarfraz's attempted flick onto the stumps misses it's mark and it's an overthrow

Third man and fine leg are both up. 4 off 2 to win

49.5

Aizaz Cheema to Abdur Razzak, OUT, Bowled'im! He had made up his mind to carve that over short fine leg, he was up in the circle, was the slower one, he walked well across but ended up playing it onto the stumps, eight down now, Mahmudullah will not be on strike

Abdur Razzak b Aizaz Cheema 6 (16m 8b 0x4 0x6) SR: 75.00

Shahadat Hossain walks in, he'll just have to swing at it now. 4 needed off 1, this has gone down to the last ball. Remember he conceded 19 off Pakistan's last over, can he make amends with one strike? It all boils down to this ball. Three will tie.

49.6

Aizaz Cheema to Shahadat Hossain, 1 leg bye, yorker on leg stump and he can only dig it out into the leg side for a single, Pakistan have taken the title, joy for Pakistan, despair for Bangladesh but they've done themselves proud

How crucial was that performance from Sarfraz Ahmed? That's made the difference, and well done to Cheema for keeping his nerve in that final over. Quiet, silent, sombre faces in the Bangladesh dressing room but this has been some tournament for them. Just short by three runs in the end, they walk out to shake hands with the Pakistan team. Will this mark the turning point for Bangladesh in all cricket? They have won the respect of the cricketing world, beating India and Sri Lanka on their way here and giving Pakistan a run for their money twice. Tears in the eyes of Mushfiqur Rahim, the captain and there's Shakib consoling him. Pakistan have won this tournament for the second time.

An excellent tournament this, close matches for the most part and most importantly, an excellent reception from a cricket-mad Bangladeshi crowd. The Pakistan spinners did a splendid job to restrict the hosts, and the wickets of Shakib and Mushfiqur in fairly quick succession giving their team the edge towards the end. The game was very much on till the end; Mashrafe struck some good blows, Razzak tried hard but Pakistan won out the battle of nerves in the end.

The tears are still rolling down the cheeks of the Bangladeshi players, and the fans. Jamshaid says this: "It really makes me sad to watch mushfiq cry but he has no reason to cry, he should look at the bigger picture bangladesh have finally evolved into an amazing and formidable team that are capable of defeating bigger teams." The other key moments were the loss of Tamim and Jahrul in quick succession, and it took a while for Nasir to get going. The spinners did superbly at those stages. It's taking a while for everyone to get themselves under some control, we'll get you the presentation details in just a bit.

Tamim Iqbal gets an award for four fifties on the trot for the man, big cheers from the crowd.

Mushfiqur Rahim: Before the tournament, we had great preparation but the boys stuck to the plans. We played good in the tournament I thought. The wicket is a bit slowish, it's not easy to score runs, Tamim and Shakib played well. We gave away some runs in the last over, that was crucial. It's been a great tournament for Shakib, Tamim, Mashrafe, Razzak and Nasir. We fought in all the games and we achieved a lot in this tournament. Shakib and Tamim were both set batsmen and their wickets were the turning point." Mushfiqur signed off by thanking the crowd for their support in Bangla.

Shakib Al Hasan is the Man of the Tournament: If we look at the overall tournament, we were terrific. The teamwork has been terrific, the way the crowd supported us was fantastic too. Hopefully we'll kick on from here. If I had scored two more runs we would have won the game, we came so close to win the Asia Cup. We'll take the positives from this series and move on from there.

Shahid Afridi is Man of the Match: "Bangladesh really played well, and I worked hard on my bowling. The credit goes to guys like Shakib and Nasir, they really played some good cricket. I tried my level best with the bat. I worked hard."

Some confusion about the awards, just to clarify that Shakib is the Man of the Series and Afridi the Man of the Match for his all-round performance. The Pakistan players walk up to the podium one after another to collect their medals. Tamim got a coolest player of the series award, something along those lines.

Misbah-ul-Haq: "Wonderful victory, well fought by all guys, the youngsters came in and contributed well. Sarfraz's innings was a vital one for us. This wicket was a little different from the other ones, it was slow. We were hoping that around 225-230 would be a fighting a score. The spinners bowled very well, the pacers did well in the end. Bangladesh played wonderfully well, this is really a new Bangladesh team and they are really the winners."

That's all from us, folks. The Pakistan players are all smiles, posing for the cameras now. It's been a riveting final game and many thanks to all of you for tuning in and sending us your feedback. It was a pleasure bringing the game to you and whatever be the result, I hope each of you enjoyed following an absolutely cracking contest. See you soon. Oh, before I sign off, don't forget to read Abhishek Purohit's report for this match, it's getting updated as I type. Cheers!
