Asia Cup - 2nd match

Bangladesh v India

India won by 6 wickets (with 6 balls remaining)

India in a huddle now, a good long speech by Virat Kohli.. still going on.. It's over now. DK will keep wickets. Bangladesh openers are in too. Anamul to take strike. Bhuvneshwar to start the bowling

shahbaz khan: "India will definetly miss IShant Sharma."

1.50 pm The teams are already walking towards the middle for national anthems. Decent crowd, very noisy - not housefull yet.

Ray: "Couple of years ago no one would've been looking forward to this game. People would've been cashing in on a easy bet. Yes, Indians are still favorite but this game has a much closer contests than the previous years and that speaks volume of Bangladesh. They just have to forget about the SL series and not get played into the hype. Give us a good show. "

"The match hasn't started yet and We have had 8 upsets so far. Don't believe me? Count by "upset on this page"" -- Add two more to that now Suren

Mashrafe Mortaza said it won't be an upset if Bangladesh beat India, but Agarkar, speaking on our preview show, said Bangladesh may be good at home, but India are still the favourites.

suren: "Talking about upsets. For me the biggest upset would be Karthiks omission (even from the 15 member squad) after dhoni's return. Poor Chap still gives 100% everytime."

1.30 pm India win the toss and opt to bowl. No game for Pujara or Ishwar Pandey..Rayudu, Rahane and Karthik form India's middle order. Varun Aaron, Shami and Bhuvneshwar form the seam line-up. Add Ashwin and Jadeja to that too. For Bangladesh, the bowling will be led by Abdur Razzak, who is the leading bowler in Asia Cup with 22 wickets.

Kohli says that the pitch eased out yesterday, so it would be easier to bat on later. Also, he says India are better chasers. Mushfiqur says the pitch should remain the same for batting, however, they are without Tamim and Shakib.

Jeeshan: "Bangladesh have risked playing with a fairly long tail. Whereas Bangladesh normally plays a batting all rounder at 7, here they have Ziaur Rahman and an unpredictable Sohag Gazi at 8. This means a few wickets, and all of a sudden Bangladesh is staring at trouble with no depth"

Mohammed: "For people expecting an upset today. "Team India has done remarkably well in the batting department in SA & NZ, And it was only the bowling department that got the hammering" So BD's batting being not in such great form and without Tamim and Shakib, I personally don't think BD with be treat to team India, And its a 1 Sided game. #Winfor #TeamIndia"

Jiten Surtani: "The Indian fans are happy today. When the team goes out, our probability of winning a game becomes 25:75. When they come to other subcontinent pitches, it becomes 50:50...and when they play in India, it becomes 75:25. So today, we are sensing a 25% improvement in our chances"

1.20 pm Flat, very hard. That's what the pitch looks like. Bat first pitch according to Arun Lal since there was no dew yesterday. His fellow commentator Wasim Akram would disagree with the last point - he repeatedly mentioned yesterday that there was enough dew in the evening to cause problems for the bowlers.

Varanasi Harish: "Irrespective of the result today hoping it would be a reality check for the Indian team, hope BD gives an awesome fight for the revamped Indian team, also 1. Rohit should come down at No:4 giving stability and also since he is a natural middle order batsmen. 2. Pandey should make it into playing 11 and finally 3. Virat Kohli would know captaincy is just the person who is synonymous with being scapegoat, he would still follow Dhoni's methods, nothing to look from that area."

Hunbbel Meer: "No disrespect to the Indian team or fans, but I don't know why I'm having a gut feeling that Bangladesh will scrap a win here today."

Vatsal: "@Hunbbel Meer: No offense taken.. even Indian fans have that scary feeling! "

1.10 pm What a cracker of a game yesterday last night, Lasith Malinga doing what he does best, scything through the lower order to pull off a tight win for Sri Lanka. Pakistan, well, Agarkar put it correctly at the end of match - it was vintage performance. Now, it's Bangladesh v India.

Bangladesh were in the middle of a very good run in ODIs till they lost the series against Sri Lanka. India couldn't manage a single win in their twin tours to the southern hemisphere.

But this Bangladesh - the home side is always dangerous here (remember this anyone?). The familiar conditions must be a relief for India too, despite their middle order being a little of an unknown quantity. But Bangladesh, comfortable and confident, know they are in for a fight.

Mohammed Shami to Shamsur Rahman, OUT, it's over for Shamsur! The short ball brings a wicket, but not before Rayudu and Shami end up making a complete hash of it. Mohammed Shami to Mominul Haque, no run, short of length on the body, Mominul stays on the back foot and defends it to cover

Zmn: "There should be a little change in Cricket Rules. Playing straight is a credit of the Batsman. If a batsman can hit stumps on non-striking end, he should be awarded with a boundary as in fact, such a shot will reach the rope before any fielder touches it."

Manoj Majeed: "@Zmn : It reminds me of the rule set by my 8 year old son when we play cricket indoors. A straight shot that hits a RCB flag in next room is a TEN . Besides, if you hit the flag off the last ball and you are chasing , no matter what the target was, you WIN !! how about that :)"

Tim: "Looks like Kohli is repeating what Dhoni does best.. allowing the game to drift when we should be pushing them against the wall. 38.6

Aaron to Mushfiqur Rahim, 1 no ball, oh that's got to hurt! Mushy is down on the ground! Aaron bowls a beamer that strikes Mushy on the chest and he goes down immediately. Varun Aaron has been taken off the attack as this is his second waist-high delivery. He won't bowl again in this innings..Mushy is still down, he is getting attention from the physio. Aaron goes back to Mushy and apologises...

Five overs to go. 50 from here will take Bangladesh to 286 and I guess they will be happy with that..

45.1

Mohammed Shami to Mushfiqur Rahim, 5 runs, oh he gets to his second ODI century, first from a Bangladesh batsman against India since Alok Kapali. He pushed this good yorker to mid-off, but gets to his hundred as there was no one backing up the throw from Kohli.. It went all the way to fine leg boundary where Bhuvi was slow to react. Mushy is ecstatic. What a knock by the captain!

45.2

Mohammed Shami to Nasir Hossain, no run, stays on the crease and pushes this length delivery to cover

Abdullah: "I wonder if Mushy is the first ever batsman to achieve a century by getting 5 runs..."

45.3

Bangladesh need someone to stand there with the captain. These wickets are unnecessarily slowing them down

Ziaur Rahman is the new batsman

45.6

Bhuvi comes back for a short spell

46.1

Kumar to Ziaur Rahman, no run, starts off with an accurate length delivery on off, the batsman can only push it to cover

46.2

Kumar to Ziaur Rahman, SIX, Flat, flat six by Zia! Another length ball from Bhuvi, but Zia was ready for it this time.. Clears his front leg and swats it like a fly to deep midwicket

46.3

Kumar to Ziaur Rahman, 1 run, he pushes this calmly to long off to turn the strike over

46.4

Kumar to Mushfiqur Rahim, no run, full and wide yorker, it's dug out to point by Mushfiqur. No protection behind that fielder

46.5

Kumar to Mushfiqur Rahim, 1 run, another accurate yorker, the batsman digs it out to cover for a single

Rifard Akurana: "This 5.5 ft guy is taller than Everest now.."

46.6

Kumar to Ziaur Rahman, no run, third yorker in a row. Not much the batsman can do about it, it's dug out back down the pitch

End of over 47 (8 runs) Bangladesh 250/5 (RR: 5.31)

47.1

Mohammed Shami to Mushfiqur Rahim, 1 run, a loud appeal for lbw!, but the batsman has got some bat on it! He was looking to ramp it fine on the leg side by moving way across the off side, but got a leading edge to short third man

47.2

Mohammed Shami to Ziaur Rahman, FOUR, he slightly errs with his length and Zia takes full toll, slashes it over the bowler's head for a boundary. It was off the toe of the bat, but it was surprising how much power he got behind that

47.3

Mohammed Shami to Ziaur Rahman, 1 run, another low full toss and again it's hammered over the umpire's head, but this time Jadeja, from long on, cuts it off

47.4

Mohammed Shami to Mushfiqur Rahim, FOUR, Go Mushy Go! The captain loves to play the slog sweep! He gets under this full delivery some how by going deep in the crease and whacks it to the cow corner area

47.5

Mohammed Shami to Mushfiqur Rahim, 2 runs, now charges down the pitch, takes the bowl on the full and drives it to wide long off for a couple

Ashfaque: "Mushfiq has been a brilliant player for Bangladesh - a very composed captain who has matured fast and performed consistently. His press briefings and the way he conducts himself in them are commendable indeed. He comes from a very ordinary background but boy..hasn't he developed himself to be a world class player?"

47.6

Mohammed Shami to Mushfiqur Rahim, 2 runs, and he threads the gap again, drives it to wide long off for another couple

End of over 48 (14 runs) Bangladesh 264/5 (RR: 5.50)

48.1

Kumar to Ziaur Rahman, 1 run, he steps down the pitch early and gets a yorker on his toes, but he does well to punch it down the ground to long on

DK is standing up to the stumps

48.2

Kumar to Mushfiqur Rahim, 1 run, another good yorker, the batsman can only dig it out to long on

48.3

Kumar to Ziaur Rahman, FOUR, oh it's a good yorker but Zia manufactures a wonderful shot! He moved way down the leg side and squeezes it through the gap at point!! He took it from outside leg stump

48.4

Kumar to Ziaur Rahman, no run, another good yorker, the batsman jams his bat down and plays it to square leg

48.5

Kumar to Ziaur Rahman, OUT, Aaron takes a fine catch at cover! Zia went for the repeat of the shot he played two balls ago, but this time he plays it in the air and a touch straighter. Aaron dives to his right and hangs on to a blinder. But he is in pain as he lands awkwardly - he was holding his left leg in pain. Wondeful cameo by Zia though. Just what Bangladesh needed

Sohag Gazi is in.. he can hit it big too

Mushfiqur now has the highest ODI score by a Bangladesh captain beating Ashraful's 109 against UAE in 2008

48.6

Kumar to Sohag Gazi, 1 run, and another yorker! The batsman digs it out to cover

The number of yorkers from India I have seen in this match is probably more than what I saw in the entire last year

End of over 49 (7 runs) Bangladesh 271/6 (RR: 5.53)

Last over, how far can Mushy take Bangladesh?

49.1

Mohammed Shami to Sohag Gazi, 1 run, another one at the base of the middle stump, Gazi pushes it to long off

49.2

Mohammed Shami to Mushfiqur Rahim, FOUR, how did he find that gap! Wonderful batting. Nothing wrong with the delivery - it was a full one on the middle stump. But Mushy takes his front leg out and whacks it along the ground to cow corner

49.3

Mohammed Shami to Mushfiqur Rahim, OUT, Mushy's fine innings comes to an end! He slaps a high full toss straight to deep midwicket, but the umpire wants to check it for a) front-fott, and b) the height. First one is fine, and second one should be fine too as Mushy had charged way down the pitch. It looks like it was waist high when he made contact, but the ball had another two meters to go to the stumps. That's it, the umpires think it was fine. A wonderful innings from Mushy comes to an end. The Indian fielders pat him on the back..

49.5

Mohammed Shami to Mashrafe Mortaza, 1 run, another one aimed at the base of stumps, only a single again to long on

49.6

Mohammed Shami to Sohag Gazi, 1 leg bye, he looks to ramp it up over the keeper's head, gets hit on the pads, and the ball lobs to the keeper. DK takes an aim at the stumps, but no one is backing up, so they take an extra

Bangladesh end on a healthy 279 in their innings, the bedrock of which was a composed century by captain Mushfiqur Rahim and a half-century from Anamul. The two added 133 for the third wicket after a slow start to their innings. The innings made smooth progress until the two launched into Varun Aaron in the Powerplay. Mohammad Shami was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets.

Anamul says that in absence of Tamim and Shakib, they had to take responsibility and it's a defendable target. The pitch, he says, is good to bat and chasing will not be easy.

milind: "I think India did well in the death overs. With the way Bangladesh was batting especially Mushi, India was staring at a total of close to 300 runs. Pretty impressive death over bowling from India after long long time with more yorkers bowled in the match than they bowled in the entire year!"

Rj: "Take out Aaron, I think considering their recent bowling performance, India have bowled extremely well under the circumstances. No 300+ for a change???" Will be back shortly for India's innings

Simon: "I think Indian fans need to stop patting themselves on the back with this bowling performance. Yes it's under 300, but it's against Bangladesh without two of their best batsmen. I'd expect them to chase it comfortably though."

Jalan: "Agree with Simon. However, even the BD batsmen are not the same anymore. They play worldclass cricket."

End of over 50 (8 runs) Bangladesh 279/7
