Asia Cup - 6th match

India v Pakistan

Pakistan won by 1 wicket (with 2 balls remaining)

1.55 pm Pakistan are in a huddle as Mohammad Talha gets his first ODI cap from his captain. The umpires have walked out to the middle and we're just waiting for the India openers. Mohammad Hafeez to take the first over. Slip and leg slip in

Hassan Nasir: "Just checked my BPM! It's racing at 106...now that's prematch pressure! :D"

Ankur Agarwal: "I have seen fire in the eyes of Rohit Sharma...he will fire today...take my word for it..." I'll admit, my intentions with publishing this comment aren't altogether pure

Daniyal: "I agree with Abdullah. Including Fawad could have benefited Pakistan's middle order. Also, it would have been a good face-off between him and Dhawan to see who's got a bigger moustache." Don't forget Jaddu, he's playing his 100th ODI today

1.50 pm But as ever, we cannot have an India-Pakistan game without disappointing a couple of people. But it's all done and dusted now. It's a warm day, it's a big crowd, hopefully it's a terrific game. The teams are lining up for the national anthems. First ball in 10 minutes' time

Abdullah: "Disappointed not to see Fawad Alam included. He would have provided stability and a better balance to the lineup. Sharjeel, Maqsood, Hafeez and Shehzad are all primarily attacking batsman."

kelvin: "would still prefer..pujara instead of rayudu! :(" Hopefully Rayudu's position in the pecking order is not because of his dibbly-dobbly offies

1.40 pm Aha, we have fans who are praising the captains for their choice of XIs. I'll admit this is a first for me

hamza: "Muhammad Talha is a very good inclusion. His favourite delivery is bouncer and he has got great pacer somewhere near 150km/h.Looking forward for the contest."

Gokul: "Great move bringing in Mish. Attacking leggie. We need a spinner who can win us a match by himself. Jaddu is good in a supporting role but Ash has somehow taken it up on himself to be a restricting bowler rather than an aggressive one."

1.30 pm Pakistan have won the toss and will field "It is slow, but keeping in mind the dew, it's better to bowl first," says Misbah-ul-Haq. "Big opportunity for everyone to perform well and become a hero. It's always a pressure game. We've included Mohammad Talha in for Anwar Ali"

"Wanted to bowl first as well," says Virat Kohli. India have included Amit Mishra as the extra spinner. He wanted to take heart from Pakistan's troubles with the bat during a chase and the addition of the spinner was because Kohli thought the spinners offer a bit more control in keeping an innings quiet

1.25 pm We'll have the toss coming at you in five minutes, but I know it's never too good to remain idle during an India-Pakistan game. So we have this little teaser for you. Karthik Krishnaswamy strikes again with an analyses of how India's bowlers struggle to test both left and right-handed batsmen evenly.

Sahil Jain: "Does a captain reveal the team after or before the toss? Because if its after the toss, a captain can carry two sheets in his pockets and can use them accordingly. One for if he his team is fielding first and one for if his team is batting first!" The exchange happens when they're out in the middle, but right before the toss. But we saw some commotion as recently as the second South Africa-Australia Test. Wonder if something like that happens today...

SB: "Maybe some convoluted logic to this>The fans in the crowd listening to Gavaskar on their transistor radios naturally fall asleep> Thereby reducing the noise, atmosphere etc.>Thereby sedating the batsmen> thereby reducing their concentration and edge> which results in more batsmen getting out ! QED."

waqas: "i want Danny Morrison for commentary in this match.." As if this game needed any further excitement

1.15 pm The colour the the clay in Mirpur is a lot darker and quite hard. The pitch report doesn't know what sort of impact it might have on the match. It's quite hard and well-rolled. There is a bit of live grass but it's nothing to threaten the batsmen. The quicks will not enjoy too much support, but the spinners will enjoy the slower nature of the pitch. Since we're in the heart of the city, the dew might be lesser but it will not completely go away. So the captain would want to field first and possibly try and include an extra spinner as well.

Disaster: "If Sir's G's is doing it for India and there is one person who is doing it for Pakistan for so many years...Guess who..""RAMIZ RAJA"

"@Gerald: If that is the case, then i hope Ravi Shastri is on the mic when India bats because i don't mind hearing " That went like a tracer bullet" repeatedly, besides the obvious fact that he is world class commentator" says Jiten Surtani who obviously has a lot more patience than I do

Gerald Frank Pe: "Just a query. Do you guys have any stats on the wickets that fall during a particular commentator's stint. Most of us find that wickets fall or fall in a heap whenever Sir Gavaskar's on the mic. And yes, one more observation - India seldom wins if Sir's G's in the commentary team. No hard feelings. Just an observation." Alas, we do not have those stats, but shall we keep count of what happens in this game, people? Should be a pretty interesting segue

1.05 pm Both teams have sustained a loss in the early goings to add further pressure to this marquee clash. Pakistan are still nowhere near correcting their batting issues and India are just as far away from being threatening with the ball. Kathik Krishnaswamy probes further in his preview

"Since Dec 2012, I have not heard a single word about cricket but today all my office staff requested me to watch a cricket match taking place between India and Pakistan. I, Stephan, from Hon Kong dunno cricket but I know BOOM BOOM." The legend that is Shahid Afridi...

1.00 pm It has been an exhilarating Asia Cup so far. Afghanistan swiped the rug from under Bangladesh yesterday to kick off the super weekend and it's time for the pièce de résistance. No need for embellishments. No need for hype. Just sit back and let the goosebumps rise. This is India v Pakistan

"Will commentary be delayed by 15 minutes today as well?" Nope, the action will be live. Go ahead and do your whoops, Danish Patel

0.1

Mohammad Hafeez to Sharma, 1 run, flighted on off stump, easily pushed to long-on

around the wicket to the left-hander

0.2

Mohammad Hafeez to Dhawan, FOUR, just a bit too short and Dhawan waited on it nicely before tapping it between point and cover. Lovely footwork to use the depth of the crease

0.3

Mohammad Hafeez to Dhawan, no run, this one is on a length but doesn't offer any room. Dhawan is back and blocks

0.4

Mohammad Hafeez to Dhawan, no run, pushed through on middle and leg, Dhawan defends from the crease

0.5

Mohammad Hafeez to Dhawan, no run, a bit of flight on off stump draws him forward to defend

0.6

Mohammad Hafeez to Dhawan, no run, lunges forward to reach the pitch and blocks with hard hands

Prasanna S: "Good tactic by Pak opening with a spinner, make the most of a dry pitch.."

End of over 1 (5 runs) India 5/0 (RR: 5.00)
S Dhawan    4* (5b 1x4)      Mohammad Hafeez    1-0-5-0
RG Sharma    1* (1b)

Umar Gul from the other end, two slips in

1.1

Umar Gul to Sharma, 1 run, 128 kph, angles a fuller delivery on the pads and Rohit eases it to the left of midwicket. Neatly placed

1.2

Umar Gul to Dhawan, 1 wide, 129kph, lovely! Didn't have much heat on this, but this bouncer sails over shoulder-height around the off stump. Dhawan has seen it early and sways away

1.2

Umar Gul to Dhawan, no run, and the fuller one to follow, Dhawan inches forward and digs it out to mid-off

1.3

Umar Gul to Dhawan, no run, fullish, but his radar is generous. Too wide outside off and Dhawan's slashing blade cannot reach it

1.4

Umar Gul to Dhawan, no run, 134 kph, good length ball on off stump, Dhawan comes forward to defend into the covers

1.5

Umar Gul to Dhawan, FOUR, pierces the covers and this is a very quick outfield. Wasn't a half-volley by any means but with the new ball, this is a gorgeously paced pitch and Dhawan has planted his front leg and just hit through the line

1.6

Umar Gul to Dhawan, no run, angles it wide outside off, not bothered with

sumit: "rohit's strike rate is 100?? lookes like ankur is right .. :P"

End of over 2 (6 runs) India 11/0 (RR: 5.50)
S Dhawan    8* (10b 2x4)      Umar Gul    1-0-6-0
RG Sharma    2* (2b)      Mohammad Hafeez    1-0-5-0

2.1

Mohammad Hafeez to Sharma, no run, slows it and tosses it up on off stump, Rohit goes forward and blocks

2.2

Mohammad Hafeez to Sharma, FOUR, chips down the track to smother any hope of turn and opens the face on impact. Excellent work with both hands and feet as Rohit tucks himself into a boundary over extra cover

switches around the wicket

2.3

Mohammad Hafeez to Sharma, 1 run, flighted on the pads, pushed down to long-on.

2.4

Mohammad Hafeez to Dhawan, 2 runs, drifting on the pads and Dhawan whips it through towards the midwicket boundary. Three men are after it and deep square leg is the first to get to it

2.5

Mohammad Hafeez to Dhawan, no run, strides forward to defend this flighted delivery on off stump

2.6

Mohammad Hafeez to Dhawan, OUT, on the back foot and he's rapped on the pads! This was fired in on a good length and there was absolutely no spin on offer. Just skids onto him and beats his hectic flick shot to find him in front of leg stump. Or at least that's what Umpire Nigel Llong thinks. HawkEye says it would have clipped

S Dhawan lbw b Mohammad Hafeez 10 (12m 13b 2x4 0x6) SR: 76.92

Mubin Faiz: "@Prasanna S: What Tactic? Hafeez bowling the first over has been a normal practice for Pakistan irrespective of pitch."

End of over 3 (7 runs) India 18/1 (RR: 6.00)
     Mohammad Hafeez    2-0-12-1
RG Sharma    7* (5b 1x4)      Umar Gul    1-0-6-0

3.1

Umar Gul to Sharma, no run, 131 kph, Fullish and angling in on off stump, eased to square leg

3.2

Umar Gul to Sharma, no run, 132kph, back of a length on off stump, but still he inches forward and blocks down the pitch

3.3

Umar Gul to Sharma, no run, fullish on off stump, strides forward to defend to mid-on

3.4

Umar Gul to Sharma, 1 wide, short and wide down the leg side. Rohit wants nothing to do with it

Sunny: "The curse of Sunil Gavaskar strikes!" Yep, that's the first wicket for Sunny today

3.4

Umar Gul to Sharma, no run, fullish on middle and leg, picks it away to square leg without much footwork

3.5

Umar Gul to Sharma, SIX, take that! Short and outside off, doesn't bounce enough to trouble the batsman. Shifts his balance onto his back foot and pulls it powerfully over square leg

3.6

Umar Gul to Sharma, no run, good length ball just outside off, Rohit is forward and across and blocks by his feet

End of over 4 (7 runs) India 25/1 (RR: 6.25)
RG Sharma    13* (11b 1x4 1x6)      Umar Gul    2-0-13-0
V Kohli    0* (0b)      Mohammad Hafeez    2-0-12-1

"Virat is in early. Expect Junaid Khan to be in attack now." Let Khurram Quaseem's will be done

4.1

Junaid Khan to Kohli, 1 run, 136kph, starts off targeting his pads with a full delivery and Kohli picks it away to long leg

4.2

Junaid Khan to Sharma, no run, good length ball probing in the channel, Rohit lazily walks into an on-the-up drive and guides it to point

Uwaisul Karnain: "Hafeez has done another left-hander. His strike rate against right-handers (91) almost twice as his strike rate against left-handers (46) in ODIs, amazing stat."

4.3

Junaid Khan to Sharma, no run, fullish and outside off, Rohit comes forward and pushes to mid-off

second slip goes out to short cover

4.4

Junaid Khan to Sharma, FOUR, too much width there and he gets on top of the bounce and carves this away behind point. Seems a very easy-paced wicket with pace on the ball and he uses that to supreme advantage

4.5

Junaid Khan to Sharma, no run, much better. Tightens his line on middle and off and forces Rohit to block

4.6

Junaid Khan to Sharma, no run, fullish and angled across him, Rohit unleashes a very fluid cover drive. Can't beat the field though. Think that went off the bottom of his bat

ThePacifist: "After facing guys like Boult and Wagner in NZ, Virat should be more than ready to face Junaid Khan in B'desh. Bring it on!"

End of over 5 (5 runs) India 30/1 (RR: 6.00)
RG Sharma    17* (16b 2x4 1x6)      Junaid Khan    1-0-5-0
V Kohli    1* (1b)      Umar Gul    2-0-13-0

5.1

Umar Gul to Kohli, no run, fullish and targeting off stump, but Kohli's defensive blade is good enough to keep this out

5.2

Umar Gul to Kohli, no run, pulls the bottom hand off the bat as he turns this good length ball towards midwicket. Perhaps there was a bit more bounce than Kohli expected there

5.3

Umar Gul to Kohli, no run, good stride forward and blocks this fullish delivery outside off

5.4

Umar Gul to Kohli, 1 run, opens the face to guide this good length ball outside off down to deep third man.

5.5

Umar Gul to Sharma, no run, nice and tight on middle and off, but Rohit is on the back foot and nudges towards square leg

5.6

Umar Gul to Sharma, 1 run, pokes outside the off stump, but there isn't much movement on offer to make batsmen think twice about that stroke. Back of a length delivery, eased to deep third man

End of over 6 (2 runs) India 32/1 (RR: 5.33)
RG Sharma    18* (18b 2x4 1x6)      Umar Gul    3-0-15-0
V Kohli    2* (5b)      Junaid Khan    1-0-5-0

6.1

Junaid Khan to Sharma, no run, fullish on off stump, presents half a face to steer it to point

6.2

Junaid Khan to Sharma, no run, absolutely no timing there and that might well be what saves him. Has another wander down the track, but this goes right off the bottom of the bat and falls short of mid-on

6.3

Junaid Khan to Sharma, no run, fullish on off stump, seemed a little early on the stroke there as well. Wanted to hit to mid-off and ends up giving work to the bowler on his followthrough

6.4

Junaid Khan to Sharma, SIX, 137 kph, picked away and this has sailed over the boundary rope, that seems to have been pulled in. It was a steady delivery outside off, but Rohit planted his front foot across and dismissed it from his presence.

6.5

Junaid Khan to Sharma, FOUR, 117 kph, slower ball on the pads, flicked away to the right of the short fine leg fielder. Didn't get it off the middle, but he had found the gap

6.6

Junaid Khan to Sharma, 2 runs, 140kph, sharp pace but it's to the batsman's benefit when you present a length ball on the pads. Rohit flicks to deep backwards square leg

End of over 7 (12 runs) India 44/1 (RR: 6.28)
RG Sharma    30* (24b 3x4 2x6)      Junaid Khan    2-0-17-0
V Kohli    2* (5b)      Umar Gul    3-0-15-0

7.1

Umar Gul to Kohli, 2 runs, 129 kph, walks at him gets on top of the bounce to push this through the covers. Lovely placement from Kohli

7.2

Umar Gul to Kohli, 1 run, excellent calling from Rohit. This back of a length delivery was angled back in at him and Kohli nudged it into the leg side. The non-striker saw it would take the keeper some time to get it and rushes through

7.3

Umar Gul to Sharma, 1 run, 124 kph, worked away through square leg as he allows this shortish ball to come to him and uses his wrists to give it direction

Hussain: "@Ankur (of Rohit Fire comment) - Which lottery should I buy today?"

7.4

Umar Gul to Kohli, no run, 130 kph, lured into playing a drive on the up. That was rather uppish but goes too far square of the man at short cover. Inspects his bat.

7.5

Umar Gul to Kohli, no run, fuller and straighter and Kohli's never troubled by this line. Flicked to midwicket

7.6

Umar Gul to Kohli, no run, shortish on middle and I think it was a little slower as well. Wanted to whip it though square leg, but gets a bit of a leading edge. Doesn't lob up though

End of over 8 (4 runs) India 48/1 (RR: 6.00)
V Kohli    5* (10b)      Umar Gul    4-0-19-0
RG Sharma    31* (25b 3x4 2x6)      Junaid Khan    2-0-17-0

Nimesh: "I wonder doesn't the jump in the early run up of Junaid interfere with his bowling? He is a good bowler looking at his stats. But I think the jump takes extra efforts, cuts down the speed and also give strain on his knee. "

8.1

Junaid Khan to Sharma, FOUR, fullish and outside off and allows Rohit to essay a purely magnificent loft over mid-off. Too full from Junaid as he switches around the wicket and a full swing of a straight bat takes the breath of most people away

8.2

Junaid Khan to Sharma, no run, back of a length, but not enough room to cut. Gets a thick inside edge but it doesn't endanger the stumps much to Rohit;s relief. He hadn't realised how close that was

8.3

Junaid Khan to Sharma, no run, punched to short cover as this is shortish and outside off

8.4

Junaid Khan to Sharma, FOUR, charges at the good length ball angled in at him. Had made a touch of room and whacked it over the bowler's lead. One-bounce four. Looked far more forceful with this shot

8.5

Junaid Khan to Sharma, no run, shortish on and around off stump, Rohit wanted to pull but then ducked under it

8.6

Junaid Khan to Sharma, no run, back of a length and outside off, eased towards point

Karthik Krishnaswamy chimes in: "From the press box side, the boundaries seem to have been brought in massively. The distance between the advertising boards and the boundary seems equivalent to the distance the keeper is standing back to the fast bowlers. But the ground is a little asymmetric, and the actual outfield on this side is huge. As in, it hasn't been uniformly pulled in."

End of over 9 (8 runs) India 56/1 (RR: 6.22)
RG Sharma    39* (31b 5x4 2x6)      Junaid Khan    3-0-25-0
V Kohli    5* (10b)      Umar Gul    4-0-19-0

9.1

Umar Gul to Kohli, OUT, guides it straight into the keeper's hands and Gul is off with his best imitation of Shoaib Akhtar's aeroplane celebration. That is a big wicket and how softly it has fallen. Shortish ball outside off, Kohli tries to guide it away towards third man but gets too fine an edge. Bit more bounce and a touch of seam inward outs Pakistan on top

V Kohli c †Umar Akmal b Umar Gul 5 (29m 11b 0x4 0x6) SR: 45.45

Ajinkya Rahane is in at No.4

9.2

Umar Gul to Rahane, no run, very full on off stump, met with a straight bat

9.3

Umar Gul to Rahane, no run, back of a length and this seems to bounce a little more again. Rahane was on the back foot and tries to nudge to midwicket

9.4

Umar Gul to Rahane, no run, 135 kph, good length ball on off stump. Defended

9.5

Umar Gul to Rahane, no run, fullish and outside off, strides forward and blocks quite well

9.6

Umar Gul to Rahane, FOUR, 136 kph, gorgeous! That was nothing more than a defensive push but Rahane's timing combined with this outfield takes this fuller delivery on middle to the straight boundary. Very composed strike

End of over 10 (4 runs) India 60/2 (RR: 6.00)
AM Rahane    4* (5b 1x4)      Umar Gul    5-0-23-1
RG Sharma    39* (31b 5x4 2x6)      Junaid Khan    3-0-25-0

Shahid Afridi is in now

10.1

Shahid Afridi to Sharma, no run, very full delivery, angled in on middle and leg. Eased into the covers as he makes some room

10.2

Shahid Afridi to Sharma, no run, good length ball on the stumps, punched off the back foot

10.3

Shahid Afridi to Sharma, no run, tossed up on off stump, driven into the covers

10.4

Shahid Afridi to Sharma, no run, shortens his length on off stump, pushed to mid-on

10.5

Shahid Afridi to Sharma, FOUR, too short and Afridi's inherent pace makes this late cut an almost foregone conclusion. Hint of spin away, but Rohit had it covered as he cuts perfectly

10.6

Shahid Afridi to Sharma, 1 run, flicked through wide mid-on as this was tossed up on off stump

sri: "Virat got out due Gambhir syndrome ( try to nudge to third man)" His average against Pakistan is the lowest against Test-playing nations: 33.25

End of over 11 (5 runs) India 65/2 (RR: 5.90)
RG Sharma    44* (37b 6x4 2x6)      Shahid Afridi    1-0-5-0
AM Rahane    4* (5b 1x4)      Umar Gul    5-0-23-1

11.1

Umar Gul to Sharma, no run, back of a length on off stump, defended

11.2

Umar Gul to Sharma, no run, fullish and outside off, should have gone far more forward than he did. But he does play with a straight bat which guides the ball into the off side

11.3

Umar Gul to Sharma, 1 run, shortish and outside off, Rohit shuffled across and flicks in front of square leg. Nicely on top of the bounce there

Just to reiterate, the boundaries are not short. They've been pulled in to make it even because the ground is bigger on one side than the other

11.4

Umar Gul to Rahane, no run, 132 kph, digs one in short and the direction is good too. Rahane realises it's on middle and ducks

11.5

Umar Gul to Rahane, no run, bit more bounce on this good length ball as well, Rahane is forward and gets it on the sticker of the bat

11.6

Umar Gul to Rahane, no run, back of a length on off stump, Rahane gets in line and pushes to mid-off

End of over 12 (1 run) India 66/2 (RR: 5.50)
AM Rahane    4* (8b 1x4)      Umar Gul    6-0-24-1
RG Sharma    45* (40b 6x4 2x6)      Shahid Afridi    1-0-5-0

12.1

Shahid Afridi to Sharma, 1 run, some turn for Afridi, but this was shortish and outside off so Rohit is on the back foot and eases it through the covers

12.2

Shahid Afridi to Rahane, no run, drifts in on off stump and turns away. Rahane was to the pitch of it as he defends

12.3

Shahid Afridi to Rahane, no run, flighted outside off, Rahane pushes back to the bowler

12.4

Shahid Afridi to Rahane, no run, lunges forward to try and sneak a single into the covers but he hasn't hit it a soft as he thought

12.5

Shahid Afridi to Rahane, no run, pulls his length back and this slides down leg, Rahane flicks but straight to short fine leg

12.6

Shahid Afridi to Rahane, 1 run, tossed up on leg stump, nudged through to deep square leg

Anand: "Disagree. Boundaries are short. Period."

End of over 13 (2 runs) India 68/2 (RR: 5.23)
AM Rahane    5* (13b 1x4)      Shahid Afridi    2-0-7-0
RG Sharma    46* (41b 6x4 2x6)      Umar Gul    6-0-24-1

Ali Mushaf: "Ajmal would have been working on Kohli and here we are not gonna see that contest. Gul, you spoiler." Time for Mohammad Talha's first ball in ODI cricket

13.1

Mohammad Talha to Rahane, 1 leg bye, 130 kph, very full and angled in at him. Strikes Rahane on the pads as he was going to flick. Very optimistic appeal from Talha because this was slipping way down leg stump

13.2

Mohammad Talha to Sharma, no run, fullish and on the stumps, Rohit works it towards midwicket

13.3

Mohammad Talha to Sharma, 1 run, 137 kph, back of a length and on the pads, picked away to long leg

13.4

Mohammad Talha to Rahane, no run, width outside off but he can't capitalise. He's on the front foot and tries to hit on the up, but his timing deserts him

Suman Dustakar: "Out of 68 runs scored by India, 48 are scored by boundaries.. Boss where are singles and twos?"

13.5

Mohammad Talha to Rahane, FOUR, Oops, he strayed in line with a short ball down leg and as Anand pointed out in the last over, the boundaries are short there and this pull shot is only gloved but it just races away.

13.6

Mohammad Talha to Rahane, no run, 140kph, back of a length outside off, stands up tall to defend to mid-off

End of over 14 (6 runs) India 74/2 (RR: 5.28)
AM Rahane    9* (17b 2x4)      Mohammad Talha    1-0-5-0
RG Sharma    47* (43b 6x4 2x6)      Shahid Afridi    2-0-7-0

14.1

Shahid Afridi to Sharma, FOUR, flayed through the covers and he brings up another eye-catching fifty. Too much flight and far too much room from Afridi and Rohit does not hold back

14.2

Shahid Afridi to Sharma, 1 run, fullish and tucks him up on middle and leg, nudged wide of mid-on

14.3

Shahid Afridi to Rahane, 1 run, tossed up outside off, Rahane is forward and opens the face to send the ball to deep point

14.4

Shahid Afridi to Sharma, no run, flighted on off stump, pushed into the covers with an angled bat

14.5

Shahid Afridi to Sharma, 1 run, short and wide, cut to the sweeper

14.6

Shahid Afridi to Rahane, 1 run, length ball on middle and leg, short midwicket dives over this push off the back foot

End of over 15 (8 runs) India 82/2 (RR: 5.46)
AM Rahane    11* (19b 2x4)      Shahid Afridi    3-0-15-0
RG Sharma    53* (47b 7x4 2x6)      Mohammad Talha    1-0-5-0

Prasanna S: "Both the wickets were more or less errors by the batsmen, all India need to do is play sensibly from now on to reach a safe target (270), anything above that with three spinners in the squad will test the Pak batting order." Actually 270 might be too low

15.1

Mohammad Talha to Rahane, no run, 138kph, back of a length on off stump, gets it more off the inside half of the bat as he finds midwicket

15.2

Mohammad Talha to Rahane, no run, fullish on middle and off, comes nicely forward and blocks into the covers

15.3

Mohammad Talha to Rahane, 1 run, dug in, but Rahane wasn't too troubled by it. Swivels on the back foot and pulls to deep square leg

15.4

Mohammad Talha to Sharma, no run, good length ball on off stump, Rohit is on the back foot and nudges to midwicket. Struck rather high on the bat there

15.5

Mohammad Talha to Sharma, 1 wide, 138kph, slammed it into the middle of the pitch and that jagged away too far outside off for the batsman to have a chance. Think that hit a crack and took off

15.5

Mohammad Talha to Sharma, no run, 139kph, back of a length and outside off, pushed into the covers

15.6

Mohammad Talha to Sharma, no run, 139kph, fullish and just outside off, Rohit presents an open face to find cover. That will be drinks

Nimesh: "@ Presanana: Most sub-continent batsmen play more nicely against spinners than fast bowlers. 320+ would be minimum"

End of over 16 (2 runs) India 84/2 (RR: 5.25)

Arslan Satti: "Just wondering, is pitch really that good or Rohit makes it look easy!! " It's been quite true and the outfield is amazingly quick. But I have spotted a few balls holding in the pitch and bouncing a bit more. Lets see what it offers Saeed Ajmal. Slip in place

Mohammad Talha to Sharma, OUT, almost a collision again as three fielders crowd under this. But Hafeez is the one who pulls off a blinder! This was short and outside off and prompts Rohit to go for a pull. Only he gets a top-edge, another sign of this pitch slowing down, and the ball goes straight up. Hafeez was running back and had to make some ground too, deep square leg was running in and they suffer glancing blows, but not before Hafeez completes a lovely grab. First wicket in ODIs for Talha

49.6

Junaid Khan to Jadeja, 1 run, hip-high full toss again as Jaddu swings as hard as he could. It drops short of midwicket and Jaddu was looking for a second, but Mishra refuses

5.45 pm India have had to stop and start through the length of that innings. The pitch began as a featherbed but as the game progressed it got slower and the bounce became tennis-ballish. Pakistan for their part exploited that perfectly, especially with their spinners: Hafeez and Ajmal took five wickets between them. India were propped up by half-centuries from Rohit Sharma early on and then Ambati Rayudu in the middle and a rather belligerent one from Ravindra Jadeja at the end. They still fell short of making 250 and will hope the pitch offers similar assistance to their own slower bowlers. Join us in half an hour for the chase

YA: "Some really awful umpiring decisions working in India's favour in the end.. Dropped catch also not helping.. Wouldn't be an easy task fior Pak with the ball spinning"

Ajoy, Kuwait: "India seems to have shed the might or teeth to be back to winning ways. As per batting of today, they doesn't seem deserving to be winners. If only they raise their level exceptionally and keep till the end, they can keep their hopes on progressing. "
