Asia Cup - 7th match

Afghanistan v Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka won by 129 runs

Mohammad Nabi leads the team into the field. In come the Sri Lanka openers too. All set for the start. Shapoor Zadran to start the proceedings. No, Nabi has a change of mind. He tosses the ball to the spinner, Najibullah!! So spin straightaway against the left-hander

1.55 pm Five minutes away from the start, the Sri Lankan openers are in the sidelines. Not many people in the ground today, but let's hope they turn up later.

1.45 pm Meanwhile, the legend of Kumar Sangakkara continues to grow. His last three innings have been 103, 67 and 128. A month ago, he scored 319 and 105 in the same Test. The 36 year old continues piling on runs at an unbelievable rate. Again, the result of the match will depend on what mood the man shows today.

Anupriya: "Most International Runs During Last 5 Year: Kumar Sangakkara 10574 / Micheal Clarke 8849 / AB de Villiers 8311.. looking forward to see another great innings from Sanga.."

Praveen D: "Good decision to bat, So Sri Lankan team can bowl in the 2nd inning with dew and get a practice."

senaka wijesing: "Congratulations to new father Sachithra Senanayake ! Good luck to both teams ! But I feel it will be very hard for Afgans to face both Malinga and Mendis as both are unconventional bowlers. Even India and Pakistan with so much exposure to these two champion bowlers found it difficult to master them. So with Afgans has no experience of them , they will find it very hard to face ."

1.30 pm Sri Lanka have won the toss and they will bat first. Angelo Mathews says they are not taking it easy at all as they have seen that Afghanistan can do. Afghanistan have brought back Dawlat Zadran in place of Hamid Hassan. Noor Ali Zadran, who missed the last match, is also back.

1.25 pm Five minutes to go for the toss. Just to inform that the scoring will be delayed by 15 minutes due to a legal order.

Lakitha: "Looking forward to an early finish by SL, which gives us enough time to save/grow our nails for a "Nail biting" final on Sunday."

Ubaidullah G.Ah: "Having played with Nabi, Nawroz, Shapoor and Karim in domestic Matches in Afghanistan, i know what they are capable of and will love to see them fight hard with Sir Lankan Team, all the very best wishes and looking forwards to a wonderful match.. "

No grass, hard and dry pitch, we saw yesterday the spinners get some purchase on the pitch here. There will be dew later, so win toss and field first pitch.

Arman Khan: "Whether Afghan win today or not but one thing is for sure that they have announced their arrival by beating BD the other day. Would be icing on the cake if they beat SL today. Go for it boys you have nothing to lose."

1.15 pm Hello and welcome to our coverage of the Asia Cup. No matter which team you support, you would get excited to see the Afghanistan team - they bring in amazing energy to the field and do have a strange aura around them I must say, be it in their fast-bowlers - one with long hair, other with a head band - or their batsmen, or, despite an odd misfield, their fielding too. The other night, Asghar Stanikzai and Samiullah Shenwari were astonishing in the manner they lifted the team from a rut to a match-winning position. Afghanistan have arrived. It took them only four matches to record an upset and they competed well against Pakistan too. Sri Lanka's tournament has been smooth till now - they have been solid with the bat and their spinners have done the job. And their is always Malinga around too.

Robert Sandrasa: "Looking forward to another lively performance from the Afghans. I'm a Sri Lankan fan but as a former associate, I can empathize with the thrill of such big matches!"

7.1

Shapoor Zadran to MDKJ Perera, no run, oh what a screamer! A sharp sharp bouncer catches KJP in a complete tangle and lobs to the keeper. Shahid: "Following the match on Cricinfo with a 15 minute delay is like time travel. I've been urging my colleagues at work to only follow the match on Cricinfo and it would be like we're all 15 minutes in the past, a new dimension. Cricinfo, cricket and Sci-Fi! Amazing! But, are you guys back to commenting live? Asking that question seems like I'm communicating with the future! I hope the future is good :)" --- Trippy!

49.6

Mohammad Nabi to Mathews, 2 runs, full and straight, the batsman hits it down the ground and comes back for a second. Nabi fails to collect the throw - it was a yorker of a throw - and Thisara is able to come back

Sri Lanka have managed a decent 253 after appearing to struggle throughout their innings. Not many boundaries were hit, but the pitch has been slow and batting hasn't been easy. Nothing to take away from the Afghanistan bowlers who kept the pressure up on the batsman and no loose deliveries were offered. An example of that was how Thisara Perera failed to find the boundary in 23 balls - that must be rare.. It's going to be a tough chase for Afghanistan, but they have shown the ability to surprise. Sangakkara says Afghanistan bowled very well and read the wicket perfectly. We will be back soon for the chase..

James: "Think Sri Lanka have got away a bit there. 41 in the last 3 overs might be a killer."

Michael: "Quite right, prior to this match Perera had found the boundary 84 times (57 4s 27 6s) from 748 balls in ODIs; once every 8.9 balls. With that frequency you would expect him to hit a boundary in an innings of 23 balls about 14 out of 15 times."

End of over 50 (15 runs) Sri Lanka 253/6
