Twenty20 Big Bash - Preliminary final

Tasmania v New South Wales

New South Wales won by 9 wickets (with 25 balls remaining)

Good evening and welcome to Bellerive for the Preliminary final of the Big Bash. Tasmania host NSW for a spot in the Champions League and a place in the final against South Australia on Saturday. The Blues travel on the back of a loss to Queensland in the last round-robin clash at ANZ Stadium. Tasmania crushed Western Australia last Thursday to earn the right to host this Preliminary Final. The Tigers have overcome their injury concerns with both Mark Cosgrove and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan fit to play. Steve O'Keefe is out of the NSW side with a calf problem.

The has been a fair bit of rain in Hobart this afternoon. We are yet to have a toss. The covers are still on. This could be a reduced overs clash. Let's hope not.

6.50pm - Covers still on. No sign of a toss yet. The players have stopped warming up. The captains are going to wait until the covers come off before they toss.

7.00pm - The rain has got heavier at Bellerive. The covers are still on. Until they are removed we won't have a toss or know about the change in the playing conditions. We will begin to lose an overs from the match per every eight minutes of play lost from this point on.

7.05pm - The sun has come out and the big covers are coming off. We will keep you posted.

7.15pm - We have had the toss. George Bailey has won the toss and Tasmania will bat first. The game will begin at 7.30pm local time. It is now a 17-over-per-side fixture. The winner will play in Saturday's final in Adelaid and will qualify for the Champions League. Twelve out of 18 teams batting first in this years Big Bash have won.

The match is 17 overs per side. Still a maximum of 4 overs per bowler. Powerplay is reduced to 5 overs from 6.

Tasmania have folded after winning the toss to be all out for 103. Pat Cummins was the star for NSW taking 4 for 16. This extraordinary 17-year-old is now the leading wicket taker in the Big Bash. His captain also bowled beautifully. Tasmania's most experienced players in Bailey and Birt tried to revive things but both holed out to long off. The Blues should run this down if they bat sensibly.
