Big Bash League - 2nd semi final

Perth Scorchers v Melbourne Stars

Perth Scorchers won by 8 wickets (with 0 balls remaining) (D/L method)

Hi and welcome to our live coverage of the second semi-final between the Scorchers and Stars in Perth. My name is Andrew Fuss and I'll be taking you through the action as it happens.

Simon Katich has won the toss and they've interstingly elected to field. Perhaps to do with the weather around, there is some talk about rain, so they may think batting second is an advantage if the match is shortened due to rain.

Tom Triffit is out for the Scorchers and it's Mike Hussey who will take the gloves. On paper, the Scorchers look menacing with a strong, experienced top six. But the teams on paper don't mean much as we found out last night when Brisbane stunned the Renegades at Etihad Stadium.

The Stars have a dangerous top order and they'll be hoping one of them can emulate Luke Pomersbach last night and come up with a big score to anchor the innings around.

A curious decision seems James Faulkner take the captaincy from the Stars. Rumours are that with White and Warne on a warning for slow over rates, they've given Faulkner the captaincy to avoid a suspension for the final. Clever, but hardly sporting.

We're not too far away from a start here in Perth in front of a sell-out crowd under cloudy skies. Stay tuned for the fireworks.

Behrendorff to White, 2 runs, full toss outside off, driven through cover

The umpires are meeting to discuss the weather, and they're coming off the ground as the rain gets a little bit heavier.

Match State: Delay - rain

History seems to be repeating with these two teams, they played out a rain affected game earlier in the Big Bash, where we ended up with the farcical situation of the Stars needing to come back on for one delivery to win the game.

Update - 6.10pm: We've been informed that if the Stars innings doesn't resume by 6.48pm local time it'll be declared closed and the Scorchers will chase under the Duckworth-Lewis system.

Doesn't look like the rain is overly heavy, so hopefully we'll be back very shortly. We'll keep you posted.

So we're about to get back underway, the game has been restricted to 18 overs each side.

15.3

Behrendorff to White, OUT, a wicket straight away as White hauls out at long off, just didn't quite get it cleanly

17.6

Coulter-Nile to Hodge, 1 run, well bowled, a yorker dug out through mid wicket, they don't even think about coming back for the second

What an innings from the Stars, 183 in just 18 overs is going to be a very difficult chase for the Scorchers in wet conditions at the WACA. Perhaps they'll live to regret sending the Stars in, certainly at this stage it's looking like a mistake.

The Scorchers will need to swing from the get-go and while they've got the order to do just that, every wicket is going to add a lot of pressure.

Stay tuned for the run chase very shortly.
