Big Bash League - Final

Perth Scorchers v Brisbane Heat

Brisbane Heat won by 34 runs

Hello and welcome to the WACA Ground in Perth for the 2012/13 Big Bash League Final between the Scorchers and the Heat.

Chris Hartley called correctly at the toss and the Heat have decided to bat first. A very sensible decision to pile the pressure on the hosts by putting runs on the board. We've all seen what pressure can do to even the best players. In team news, Herschelle Gibbs hasn't had time to recover from his hamstring strain and is replaced at the top of the order by Marcus Stoinis.

Meanwhile, the Heat have named the same XI that beat the Renegades on Tuesday night in Melbourne. Unfortunately for the Heat, their franchise skipper James Hopes, has not had enough time to regain his fitness and will not play. Mike Hussey takes the gloves for the second consecutive game for the Scorchers.

The Brisbane Heat have just one player in the top 10 runscorers in the BBL for 2012/13. Luke Pomersbach has made 360 runs @ 45.00 with a strike rate of 146. Their next best batsman is Joe Burns with 205 @ 29.28 at at strike rate of 124. With the ball, Ben Cutting is the sole Heat player in the top 10 wicket takers with 11 @ 13.72 with an RPO of 6.04.

For the hosts, Shaun Marsh is the tournament's leading run scorer with 396 @ 66.00 and a strike rate of 134. His five half-centuries in 8 innings are evidence of his consistency. Adam Voges is the other Scorchers player in the top 10 'run getters' with 219 @ 43.8 at a strike rate of 149. It is perhaps with the ball that the Scorchers have the edge with Alfonso Thomas snaring 12 poles @ 12.25 with a remarkable RPO of 5.95. Brad Hogg's wrsit spinners have also been fairly successful for the hosts with 10 wickets at a shade over 20 per wicket and an economy rate of 7.03. His wrong'un will be one to watch this evening. As they say, finals are won by the best team on the night so you can possibly throw the form book out the window and whoever is smarter and wants it more should take the trophy. We're now under five minutes away from the first delivery. My name is Marc Ellison and I can't wait to bring you all the action this evening!
