22.6

Khan to Warner, no run, Warner tentatively pokes at a ball outside off

That's the end of an utterly humiliatingly day for India. If their fans were wondering how things could get worse after the England whitewash last year, there was the mauling in Sydney. If they thought that was the nadir, Friday the 13th brought on even more embarrassment. Shot out for 161, before Warner bludgeoned a magical century in less than a session. And to think, six months ago India were No. 1. As one reader posted, it was hard to decide whether the Indian bowling was worse or their batting.

At the end of that shellacking, India fans can only resort to humour of this sort. Vij: "Hey! India won the day by 12 runs!"

It's been a day to savour for Australia, and a day that should prompt deep introspection in Indian cricket circles.

Dan Brettig has wrapped the day's action here.

Andy Zaltzman, cricket's funniest man, tweets: "India fought like cornered tigers. Albeit tigers that, having been cornered, were promptly shot and turned into rugs. "

Thanks for the many mails today. Would Indian fans be joining us tomorrow? I hope so. Till then goodbye.

A session Australia won't be too displeased with. They lost three wickets but added more than a 100 runs, and David Warner still remains in the middle, crashing boundaries at will and running hard to make twos into threes. Zaheer bowled a decent spell first up, but it was Umesh Yadav who gave the Indian fans something to cheer, at last, by nipping out three wickets in an extended spell in which he was consistently quick.

David jokes: "The scribes are right - Australia loses wickets in clusters..3/37, 1/836, 3/28".

Max seems to be a rather demanding fan: "I'd love to see a really agressive declaration from Clarke, Hit an agressive 70-80, and declare a bit after tea, If warner can do the same thats a lead of 250, more than enough."

"Vinay Kumar: not since Jaidev Unadkat's debut in SA in 2010 has a bowler been deemed so useless, so universally, so quickly." 2011 was the year of the debutant, Kartik. Not 2010 or 2012.

Second session starts at 1.10pm. See you then.
