Surprise, surprise, Dilshan will open with the first new ball
Apart from something of a series decider, this match is also Mahela Jayawardene's final game as captain, as he has already stepped down from the Twenty20 captaincy.
Correction: Sri Lanka have won the toss and have sent Australia in. Apologies, a bit of a mix up there. This of course means that Australia will be batting first for the fifth consecutive time in the series.
Australia have one change to their side, with Michael Clarke's injured ankle ruling him out, and Glenn Maxwell stepping in. Sri Lanka field the same

DV3 is unhappy with the present use of DRS: "Something needs to be done about the DRS! In a business, if a system is not doing what it is designed for then you change it, right? The DRS is not getting rid of the howler. Instead, batsmen are using it tactically to review plumb LBW's. The majority of the time, the umpire makes the right decision. Australia have done superbly after the fall of the last wicket. Sri Lanka are a little under pressure, perhaps for the first time since the opening overs.

Eugene LaBrooy: "What's Jeevan Mendis in the team for? He's not a specialist batsman, and he isn't bowling either."
I think he's seen as more of a utility player these days. He's in the team for his batting, and his bowling is there as a good option if the wicket is taking turn. He gives Sri Lanka plenty in the field though.
But I agree that he doesn't bowl enough at present.

|
43.1 |
NLTC Perera to Hughes,
FOUR,
Hundred for Hughes! Short and wide from Perera, and that is cut hard by Hughes. He gets that through the backward point fielder, and to the fence. Good hundred and his second in the series.
|
Deano: "Funny how people's perception changes. Not long ago Peter Forrest made 100 from 130-odd, Australia lost the game as he was chastized for batting too slowly. Now Hughes is going at the same strike rate and it's a masterful knock, all because Australia have been (rightly) accused of being unable to play swing bowling and not being able to stick it out."

|
43.6 |
NLTC Perera to Hussey,
OUT,
Perera has conjured another wicket - a run out this time. Hussey hit that straight into the pitch and took off for a run that simply wasn't there, because the ball had only made it as far as the bowler. Hussey turned to return to his crease, but Perera was on target with the throw and Hussey was miles out. Decent knock there from Hussey. The end of a very good partnership.

another slower ball outside off stump and Hughes is through the shot early again.

attempted yorker that is again a little short. Maxwell clears the front leg and drills that to deep cover.

slower short ball, and Maxwell gets away with a baseball-style bunt. He was shaping to pull that but realised it was too slow, and just hung the bat out. The ball took a top edge and landed safely in the infield

another slower ball, an full. Maxwell trying to smash that over the top, but he's undone by the lack of pace again, and this time the top edge sails high enough for a fielder to settle under it at extra cover.

1 run,
full again and drilled hard to sweeper cover. Just a single off the last ball.
|
Super finish from Australia, who at one stage looked like they mightn't make 220. Hughes guided the innings brilliantly with an unbeaten 138. The pitch is a slow one, so this won't be an easy run chase.
Grant: "Perfectly paced innings from Hughes. He's shown a lot of maturity today." Hard to argue with that - though he did have some luck when the ball hit the stumps and didn't dislodge the bails. He wasn't hitting the ball particularly well at the start of his innings, but got everything purring nicely at the end.
Join us in a bit for Sri Lanka's innings. They've been patchy with the bat in this series, so it could be an interesting finish.
