West Indies in Australia ODI Series - 4th ODI

Australia v West Indies

Australia won by 5 wickets (with 31 balls remaining)

Here we go then. Powell and Charles in the middle.

Toss: West Indies have won the toss and they will bat first. Australia have brought in Adam Voges in place of George Bailey (hamstring injury) and Ben Cutting replaces Mitchell Starc. West Indies have three changes - Johnson Charles, Deonarine and El Tino come in for Gayle, Sarwan and Roach.

paul: "Windies won the toss ay lets see if they can get past 70 today."

Chad: "Shame that WI is batting first. Watson can't get consecutive centuries now."

Patrick: "@ Paul & Chad, Starc is not playing. Windies to get 270+"

Taofiq: "@Chad: If West Indies do get some sort of score over 200, a look at Watson's stats will show that if he really is in good form, he should do well today. Batting first, he averages 34.13 with 2 centuries (including the one a few days ago), and batting second he averages 57.10 with 5 centuries."

Just 10 minutes from the start of the game now. Time to get my cup of tea ready and then we are set to go. Seems like there is not much interest in this match; Tom Moody has just tweeted from a beach.. I hope he regrets missing a thriller..

Dave: "With injuries and sending people to India early, you would think that Hussey (either of them) would get a proper look in. D Huss's 60 in the first game against Sri Lanka was quality and Mr. Cricket, well ... it is in his name isn't it."

Dave-2: "Does not selecting a spin bowler on a dry wicket in Sydney smack of arrogance, or ignorance, Australia?" .. Spinner? But they are playing McKay and Faulkner in, aren't they?

"I'm back," Watson said after scoring a ton that set up Australia's win against West Indies at the Manuka Oval. Watson, who was playing international cricket after sometime, looked like he never left. He drove the ball powerfully and with ease, and the timing of the innings was perfect too. On the other hand, West Indies' big guns haven't really fired. There have been good individual performances, but as a batting and bowling unit, the team has lacked incisiveness. Chris Gayle, who has been lacklustre, is doubtful for this match. Welcome to our coverage of the 4th ODI in Sydney.

0.1

McKay to Powell, no run, length ball on off stump, he comes forward and defends

0.2

McKay to Powell, no run, length ball on off, he comes forward comfortably and drives it to cover

Mitchell with the new ball. Two slips for him

Professor: "It will be interesting to see how Mitchell Johnson bowls today. He doesn't seem to like being the leader of the attack. Whenever there is pressure on him to be the strike bowler, he seems to go all over the place. He will have to lead today, so if he can bowl well, he can prove that he has made psychological improvements, not just technical ones."

1.1

Johnson to Charles, 1 leg bye, gets some swing into the right-hander, but it is down the leg side and the batsman gets it away towards backward square leg

3.4

Johnson to Powell, 1 run, length ball closer to the off stump, pushed to the gap at cover for a quick single

3.5

Johnson to Charles, 1 wide, short of length delivery, but that is way down the leg side

Starc, by the way, is not injured

Dave-2: "Given the swing that Mitchell Johnson is getting, I will revise my earlier statement to....No Starc...ignorance or arrogance, Australia?"

3.5

Johnson to Charles, OUT, he makes up for Starc's absence by bowling it full on the off stump. Johnson gets a taste of what's it like to face the inswinger's at that pace. he is too late, the ball sneaks in and takes the offstump out of the ground, sends it few meters behind ... Lovely delivery

Yasim: "I think the W.I. have a captain in the making at hand with the younger Bravo. I see a lot of Lara in him not only in looks but in the way his career as a player/batsman, maybe even one day leader of the W.I. team. Good to see his confidence is on the up and has shown he has what it takes to one day be among the greats .....

7.1

Johnson to Powell, no run, length ball on off stump, driven hard down the ground and the batsman is unlucky to hit it back to the stumps, Mitchell gets a hand to it, but Bravo was just in..

Mr. Packer: "@Nick...it's so the game extends into prime time viewing and viewers at least get to watch part of it if you have been at work like most people, has been like that for a long time"

7.2

Johnson to Powell, 2 runs, back of length wide outside off, the batsman goes for a straight-ish pull, goes over mid-on again, not much timing behind that, but it is safe enough

7.3

Johnson to Powell, OUT, caught at point! Oh no, Powell went for a flick as this was heading down the leg side and it was full too. But it moves a touch away and takes the leading edge. Maxwell at point as to just run a few steps to his left to take a dolly

7.5

Johnson to DM Bravo, no run, length ball on off stump, the batsman comes right behind it and pushes it to the off side

7.6

Johnson to DM Bravo, OUT, caught at second slip! Is anyone missing Starc now? not me. It was quick short ball on the body, wobbles a bit too and that is enough to induce a faulty defence from the batsman. He tries to fend it to the leg side but gets a leading edge which balloons in front of the second slip, the fielder dives forward and completed a good catch.. 11.2

Johnson to Pollard, no run, fuller length wide outside off, the batsman doesn't take the bait, lets it fo through

11.3

Johnson to Pollard, no run, back of length on off stump, it goes across the right-hander and Polly leaves it alone

Robert Moynan: "Mr Packer, in the modern age of digital TV then at least the option of watching the cricket live in Perth would be nice. AFL provides all games live. Seriously it ruined Watsons comeback 100 seeing it 3 hours delayed, oh yay he made a hundred but it happened 3 hours ago"

Cutting to Thomas, FOUR, fuller delivery outside off, Thomas comes forward and drives it handsomely through extra cover for his first boundary

19.2

Cutting to Thomas, OUT, oh that doesn't carry to the second slip! Or has it, they are asking the umpires. It was short of length outside off, the batsman pushes it off the back foot and gets a healthy edge to second slip, where Finch scoops it up. No one is really excited about it and the umpires are having a long debate..Hang on! this looks like it has gone straight in. Why didn't he show any more excitement I wonder. It looks pretty good in the replays.. That's it, the batsman has to go, it was a good call in the end.

DC Thomas c Finch b Cutting 7 (8m 6b 1x4 0x6) SR: 116.66

Good call by Australia, but they almost let it go with the lack of excitement shown

Jeff: "Has benefit of the doubt for the batsman been removed from the game or what? The fact that Finch himself was unsure of it should prove that it wasn't cleanly caught and the replays don't suggest it is without a doubt either."

TL Best run out 1 (15m 3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 33.33

What an innings by Pollard! West Indies were in a terrible position early on and they were not really scoring runs either. Pollard found some support and constructed useful stands with the lower order to take West Indies to a very respectable 220. A very very uncharacteristic innings by the big man, but exactly what the Windies needed. Australia had things going there way in the first half when Mitchell Johnson ripped through the top order, but they were unable to clean the innings up. We will be back in the chase in about 35 mins.

Reuel: "This is the best inns that i have ever seen Pollard play, brilliant batting by him, certainly his best hundred thus far. happy that i stayed up to watch him bat, well played Polly."

* Apologies for not putting up any comments. There has been a technical snag with that.

Rohit Shankar: "By technical snag you mean that the guy doing the filtering in on leave :)" No Rohit, the time stamps on these comments are all jumbled up. So I get the comments, but they are not showing up in any order.
