TEAMS

Mysore Vijayasarathi was an allrounder who played for Mysore for almost a decade. An offspinner and middle-order batsman, his first-class opportunities were restricted by the weakness of the side. On his debut in 1933-34 he took 6 for 43 against Madras but Mysore, bowled out for 48 and 59, still lost by an innings. While still a player he took up umpiring, a rare instance where the two careers overlapped, and throughout the 1950s he umpired in 13 Tests in India. His son, MV Nagendra, stood in 11 Tests and in 1960-61 the two became only the second father-and-son combination to stand in a first-class match (Mysore v Andhra). That was his penultimate match, the last coming three years later when he again stood with his son in a Ranji Trophy match.
