A right-handed batsman, right arm fast medium bolwer, and an excellent fielder, Darryle Macdonald is a veteran of cricket in the Australian Capital Territory. Macdonald hails from Parkes but has been a resident of Canberra since 1985 Darryle played for the ACT Under 19's in his first season of Canberra cricket and eventually made his debut for the ACT in 1988/89 at the Australian Country Championships. Since then he has been a stalwart of the ACT side. He retired at the end of the 1997/98 season to spend more time with his family but has returned to make the Comets squad for the 1999/2000 season. One of the best allrounders to play for the ACT, he is one of the few players to score more than 1000 runs and take over a hundred wickets. He has captained the ACT in six matches, which included the Australian Country Championships in Townsville in 1990/91. In the ACTCA grade competition, he plays for the Western District side where is a life member and captained the side from 1989/90 to 1993/94. He also has played a season of league cricket in England as a professional with the Barnoldswick club and has represented the ACT in hockey at the national championships in 1989. He comes from a cricketing family with his father playing for NSW Country against New South Wales, and his brothers playing grade cricket in Canberra and in Sydney. (Adam Morehouse, November 1999)
