A very highly regarded grade cricketer, Michael Smith is a young Adelaide based all-rounder. Above average in height, enthusiasm and ability, he is a capable right handed batsman and a right arm fast medium bowler hailing from the University club. With the bat, he is a sound and correct player who plays well to both sides of the wicket and who likes to strike the ball with crunching authority. As a bowler, he generates good pace but it is his ability to move the ball in the air (particularly away from right handers) which is his major asset. On account of his excellent reputation at district level, Smith has hovered close to state selection for some time now and has experienced a brief taste of interstate play during recent seasons. His all-round talents make him particularly well suited to the one-day game, but he also looks a genuine first-class prospect and has already produced some encouraging performances in that arena.
