A record stand of 309 for Victoria between Jonathon Moss and David Hussey, along with six wickets from Andrew McDonald helped them to a huge victory by an innings and 158 runs against Western Australia at the WACA.
Moss and Hussey's unbeaten partnership was the highest for the fourth wicket by a Victorian pair in a domestic first-class match and it broke the record of 301 set by Leo O'Brien and Leonard Darling in 1932-33 at Brisbane.
The declaration after 10 overs of the day meant that Matthew Elliott's 182 was the top score for Victoria, while the WA bowling figures made for some ugly reading. Elliott was named Man of the Match for setting up the foundation for his side's enormous total.
But after WA had failed to take a wicket for 385 balls, it took Victoria only six deliveries before Craig Simmons was bowled by Ian Harvey. However, it was hard going for the Victorians from then on with McDonald playing a crucial role.
He picked up the only wicket in the afternoon session, of the in-form Murray Goodwin for 38 before ending Marcus North's patient knock of 33 later on. Shaun Marsh's attempt to occupy the crease was short-lived as he continued his wretched summer with a golden duck. Marsh was selected in the Australia A side for two one-dayers next month, but has made only 135 Pura Cup runs at just under 17 this season.
Campbell survived the hat-trick delivery, but McDonald ensured he was the star of the day by having Brad Hogg (25) caught behind with four overs remaining. WA were 7 for 271 at the expected close of play, but the umpires allowed the extra half hour and McDonald claimed another two wickets before Harvey wrapped up the match.
