South Australia surged to a comprehensive 98-run victory over Western Australia in their floodlit game at the WACA in Perth, in the process ending WA's admittedly slim hopes of progressing to the final. After running up a competitive 8 for 260, SA restricted WA to 162.
Most of SA's batsman managed starts - eight of them scored 13 or more - but the major contributors were Callum Ferguson, whose 64 came from 60 balls, and Nathan Adcock, whose 53 occupied 76 balls, but included two sixes. They put on 81 for the fourth wicket. Later Shannon Tubb (29) and Daniel Harris (26) helped add some useful runs down the order.
WA never looked like challenging the target of 261, especially after three wickets went down with the score on 88. Marcus North scored 35 and Adam Voges 31, but with wickets falling at regular intervals - the fast bowler Shaun Tait took three - WA limped to 162.
South Australia were already out of contention for the final, in which Queensland will take on either Tasmania or Victoria, but this bright display gave them hope for their final one-day encounter of the season, against Tasmania at the Adelaide Oval next Saturday (Feb 12).
