Ken Jacobs, Cricket Victoria chief executive, has expressed his disappointment at comments made by Mathew Elliott over his move to South Australia, accusing him of suffering from a memory lapse.
Elliott sought a move to South Australia at the end of the season. Cricket Victoria took the matter to Cricket Australia and Elliott was allowed to shift after a committee upheld his appeal.
Elliott had said he wasn't offered a contract by Victoria at the end of last season, a charge Jacobs vehemently refuted in comments to The Age. "I am disappointed at some of the comments Matthew made. Some of them are just factually incorrect. To say he was not offered a contract by Victoria ... he must be suffering a memory lapse or have a bad manager or both.
"We offered Matthew a three-year contract and those details were sent in writing to his manager in April. I said to Matthew that we were obligated to do the best we could to retain his services for Victoria. His record speaks for itself. He has been an outstanding player for us. Unfortunately we couldn't (reach a deal) and we wished him all the best. "For him to make these comments six months later is very disappointing."
Jacobs did say, however, that Elliott would always be welcome back to the club he spent 13 years with as a player.
Jacobs revealed he had spoken to Elliott and "agreed to disagree" on the matter. "We did have a conversation today. As I have said on a number of occasions, Matthew will always be welcome back in Victoria. We wish him well and we've moved on. Matthew has been a great player for Victoria and Victorian cricket has been great for Matthew as well."
