Adam Voges kept his name in the frame for Australia's one-day squad with a powerful 74 off 45 balls to set up a 26-run win for Western Australia against New South Wales at Perth. Phil Jaques, who is also likely to feature in the upcoming internationals, matched Voges stroke for stroke but the Blues lost their way against Brad Hogg and Sean Ervine, who collected three wickets apiece to seal an early victory for the Warriors.

Western Australia raced along in the opening stages of their innings as Scott Meuleman and Luke Ronchi took advantage of the fielding restrictions with an opening stand of 52 off 21 balls. Meuleman continued to set the pace, hitting five fours and two sixes, before being bowled by Nathan Haurtiz with the score reading 2 for 97 in just the eighth over. Voges then took control, adding 54 for the fifth-wicket with David Bandy. Nathan Bracken came in for some fierce punishment conceding 57 off his four overs.

Jaques and Brad Haddin ensured New South Wales were up with the pace early in the chase as the Blues reached 1 for 81 after eight overs. However, Hogg again underlined the value of spin in this form of the game by snaring both key players in successive overs. Jaques fell after striking four sixes in a 38-ball 69 and when Dominic Thornely was stumped two balls later - for Hogg's third scalp - the Blues' chance slipped away.
