Queensland survived a late-order wobble to take first-innings points against Western Australia in a match that otherwise petered out to a predictable draw. The tailenders Ben Cutting and Ben Laughlin combined to take Queensland past Western Australia's total after the loss of Chris Hartley and Chris Simpson early in the day left the team in a tenuous position.

Hartley (68) added two to his overnight score and Simpson departed for 70 to leave the Bulls still 32 short of a first-innings lead with three wickets in hand. However, Cutting and Laughlin knuckled down to edge Queensland past their target and then enjoyed some free hitting for the Bulls to finish with a 52-run advantage.

Cutting was eventually caught behind off Marcus North for 34 and Laughlin (35) was one of two wickets for David Bandy. In a match that had been a grind for both sides, it was clear that a result was not going to eventuate and Western Australia's top order then settled in for some batting practice.

The Warriors' new opening pairing of Luke Towers and Wes Robinson showed some promise with an 89-run stand before Towers fell for 41. Robinson finished unbeaten on 67 and Shaun Marsh was on 20 when the captains agreed to call the match off early.
