@msmith4280 - still, you had pretty good intel! I would imagine vdG's departure was a factor for Conway.

  • msmith4280 on July 11, 2012, 22:08 GMT

Meety - I was told that Conway was not getting a contract and that it was a straight choice between Sandhu and Conway for the final seamers spot. In the end both got rookie contracts. I don't know if the departure of van der Gugten was the reason for this.

@bringbackbrucelaird - I think there was a prolonged form lapse there. I think he could of benefitted from moving state, - particularly when SA started bringing in spinners like O'Brien. The world really was his oyster though, getting a test cap at a young age. I think he could of been very good in the ODI/T20 format. Funny that he fell out of state cricket with an ave of 44, yet Doherty made the Oz side not long after with an ave of 48 at the time, & Cullen nearly had a far better wickets per match ratio.

Sad to see Magoffin end his years in County Cricket which is becoming a retirement home for aging shield players. And what ever happened to Dan Cullen? Surely if he is good enough to play test cricket a state should be willing to take a chance with him.

@msmith4280 - well done! Apart from Conway, I think you nailed the ENTIRE squad 3 days before the press release! Particularly impressed that you picked Henry & the other Hughes!

  • msmith4280 on July 7, 2012, 16:33 GMT

I have heard NSW are going to have 16 players on full-time contracts and 5 players on rookie contracts. If so:

ACB: Clarke, Cummins, Haddin, Starc, Watson, Warner

Full: Abbott, Bollinger, Copeland, Cruickshank, Dawson, Hazlewood, Henriques, Henry, Hughes, Lalor, Maddinson, Nevill, O'Keefe, Rohrer, Smith, Tremain

Rookie: Bills, Doran. Patterson, Sandhu, Zampa

Personally, I think Patterson deserves a full contract.

Average age of the above squad just 24.

Agree with RJHB, NSW will miss Khawaja, but I think he will do great under boof in QLD who will help him get his Aussie spot back, predicting that Khawaja will again be the state player of the year as he was in 2010

  • RJHB on July 6, 2012, 4:01 GMT

Those outs for NSW appear staggering though neither Clark nor Casson had played much for quite some time. Boy are they gonna miss those batsmen though. Good on Hughes and Khawaja, brave move and I hope it pays off big time for Australia in the future.

Dan Harris de-listed? He's a short form monster!

  • Gordo85 on July 4, 2012, 14:26 GMT

Victoria should seriously consider players such as Brendan Drew and Jonathan Wells both to me look like they have talent whch would help Victoria get even better.

WA is going to miss Ronchi!

  • on July 4, 2012, 5:10 GMT

when you see the names of the retired players like Katich, Clark, Hodge, Cameron, Jacques it gived you a feeling that what would have happened if all these players would have been burn a decade later...quite a talented group going out and the loss will be severe for the Aus cricket

  • willharry on July 4, 2012, 3:31 GMT

Any chance of listing the players dropped as well? Would make it more obvious what's happened to some of the fringe players (walters, drew etc.)

  • Meety on July 4, 2012, 1:56 GMT

Shame about Mark Cameron, if he could of stayed fit, I felt he'd be bit like Tremlett only about 15kph faster. Had great FC stats. Also dissappointed Walter of QLD didn't get a gig, another bloke who's injuries curtailed what could of ben a good career. Fairly handy nucleus of an FC side that has departed NSW, interesting to see how the squad evolves next year. Dissappointed for Drew @ Tassie, I played footy with his brothers.
