Tasmania's lower-order batsmen made useful contributions to put up a competitive total, one that appeared stronger after the bowlers dismissed three Queensland batsmen cheaply at Bellerive Oval.

Resuming on 5 for 244, Tasmania lost Ben Dunk before he scored on the second day, and Tim Paine added only 27 to his overnight 12. Xavier Doherty and Sam Rainbird scored 32 and 26 to take the score to 350. Ben Cutting finished with 4 for 54 for Queensland, while Alister McDermott claimed 3 for 58.

Rainbird made the first breakthrough for Tasmania, having Queensland opener Luke Pomersbach caught behind for 12. Joe Burns added 50 for the second wicket with Dom Michael, who was then lbw to Andrew Fekete for 22. Ben Hilfenhaus bowled Nick Stevens for 2, and by stumps Burns had contributed 76 to Queensland's 3 for 136.
