Tasmania quicks lead 183-run rout
Tasmania 350 (Cowan 93, Cazzulino 63, Cutting 4-54) and 9 for 165 dec (Hopes 5-59) beat Queensland 183 (Burns 90*, Hilfenhaus 4-50) and 149 (Boyce 65, Rainbird 4-40) by 183 runs
Tasmania's fast bowlers made short work of Queensland in the fourth innings, needing only 50.4 overs to wrap up a 183-run win in Hobart. The margin of victory could have been higher because Queensland were 7 for 53 at one stage, before they were eventually dismissed for 149. Thirty nine wickets fell over four days at Bellerive Oval.
The target of 333 was always going to be out of Queensland's reach as they began the final day on 1 for 11. Their chances of survival took a severe blow in the 12th over, when Andrew Fekete dismissed Luke Pomersbach and Nick Stevens off successive deliveries to reduce Queensland to 3 for 23.
Ben Hilfenhaus made the next breakthrough for Tasmania after which Sam Rainbird ran through the middle order, handing Chris Hartley a pair in the process. Rainbird finished with 4 for 40 in the innings and seven wickets in the match. Queensland were in danger of being dismissed for fewer than 100 but Cameron Boyce made 65 off 56 balls to delay defeat.
Queensland and Tasmania are fourth and fifth in the Sheffield Shield, level on 16 points.
