Rob Quiney, Marcus Stoinis, Aaron Finch and Matthew Wade all scored half-centuries in a solid Victoria batting effort on the first day against Western Australia at the WACA. At the close of play, the Bushrangers were 6 for 315 with Wade unbeaten on 52 and John Hastings on 20.
After being sent in by Adam Voges, the Victoria openers Quiney and Stoinis put on 118 for the first wicket before Stoinis was caught off the bowling of Michael Hogan for 58. Two more quick wickets from Hogan left Victoria at 3 for 128 before Quiney and Finch combined for a 73-run partnership.
Finch's 53 came from 51 balls and despite his outstanding limited-overs record, it was only the second time in the past three years he had scored a half-century in the Sheffield Shield. But he was unable to go on and was caught off the bowling of Nathan Rimmington.
Quiney, who had been put down by Cameron Bancroft at third slip on 14, fell short of a century when he was dismissed by Ashton Agar for 92. Glenn Maxwell chipped in with 24 before Wade and Hastings came together to get the Victorians through to stumps.
