Mian Mohammad Saeed, first captain of the Pakistan cricket team, against West Indies at Lahore in 1948-49, died suddenly in Lahore on August 23, eight days short of his 69th birthday. He played for Northern India in the Ranji Trophy in the 1930s and after partition appeared for Punjab in the Qaid-e-Azam Trophy. He was father of the former Somerset player Yawar Saeed and father-in-law of Test bowler Fazal Mahmood. He had recently been chairman of the Pakistan Test selectors.
