Arno Jacobs could be described as an allrounder in a class of his own. He is as prepared to carve out centuries in the middle order in first-class matches as he is to lash the ball around the park as an opener in the Twenty20 format. He is also a recognised wicketkeeper, and he bowls a decent brand of medium pace as well offspin. Jacobs bears more than a passing resemblance to Stan Laurel. But unlike his facesake, he is no cry baby and certainly no joke. Tough as tortoiseshell with ability to match and a heap of experience to lean on, Jacobs has earned a deserved reputation as a superb team man and a formidable opponent.
