England tour of Australia, 2006/07 / Wicket commentary

The Ashes - 3rd Test

Australia v England

Australia won by 206 runs

Overs 1-50  | Overs 51-100

5.6

McGrath to Cook, OUT, gone! Tries to cover-drive that one but the length wasn't there - a bit of length and movement and Cook's tempted to play that one, but merely gets a thick edge to Langer in the slips

AN Cook c Langer b McGrath 15 (26m 15b 2x4 0x6) SR: 100.00

England 36/1   AJ Strauss 19* (23b 4x4)   GD McGrath 3-0-14-1

6.6

Lee to Bell, OUT, ooh, that's the one Lee was aiming for last ball - just squaring Bell up nicely and he gets a thin edge on that as it feathers through to Gilchrist. This is a great response from Australia and they have two wickets in quick succession, Bell departing for a duck

IR Bell c †Gilchrist b Lee 0 (5m 2b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

England 37/2   AJ Strauss 20* (27b 4x4)   B Lee 4-0-23-1

17.2

McGrath to Collingwood, OUT, GONE! It was just short of a length, I think it cut away just a touch from Collingwood who, without moving his feet, tried to push it off the back foot. It took the outside edge and flew to Matthew Hayden's right, at gully, who clung onto a reasonably simple chance and there's Australia's breakthrough

PD Collingwood c Hayden b McGrath 11 (45m 33b 1x4 0x6) SR: 33.33

England 55/3   AJ Strauss 26* (56b 4x4)   GD McGrath 6.2-2-19-2

24.2

Clark to Strauss, OUT, but he's GONE! Attempting the same shot outside off, it was too wide frankly and the entire slip cordon all roar their appeal as Gilchrist collects. The crowd are all booing, Strauss is shaking his head and effing and blinding to himself, but he's gone.

AJ Strauss c †Gilchrist b Clark 42 (101m 71b 6x4 0x6) SR: 59.15

England 82/4   KP Pietersen 10* (28b 2x4)   SR Clark 7.2-3-17-1

33.4

Symonds to Flintoff, OUT, gone this time and the Symonds trap has paid off. Flintoff squared up to that one, prodded at it and sends a thick edge to Warne at first slip who takes a good catch. Lee had been softening him up at the other end and Symonds cleans up, with Flintoff's scalp as his first Ashes wicket, not a bad one

A Flintoff c Warne b Symonds 13 (46m 31b 2x4 0x6) SR: 41.93

England 107/5   KP Pietersen 20* (55b 3x4)   A Symonds 2.4-1-7-1

35.6

Symonds to Jones, OUT, and gone! Symonds strikes again! A sloppy shot it must be said, driven uppishly to point where it's snaffled very tidily indeed, low. Jones gets a duck and the Aussies are celebrating hard here

GO Jones c Langer b Symonds 0 (11m 4b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

England 114/6   KP Pietersen 26* (66b 4x4)   A Symonds 4-1-8-2

40.6

Clark to Mahmood, OUT, and for the third time in succession he steps to leg, flashes, edges and it's taken behind. Careless, hopeless shot and England are in an absolute mess

SI Mahmood c †Gilchrist b Clark 10 (24m 18b 1x4 0x6) SR: 55.55

England 128/7   KP Pietersen 29* (79b 4x4)   SR Clark 10-3-29-2

51.6

Warne to Hoggard, OUT, and there we go; Warne lands this on leg stump, Hoggard comes forward, it takes the outside edge and goes straight to Hayden at first slip. Classical bowling; classical Warne

MJ Hoggard c Hayden b Warne 4 (47m 39b 0x4 0x6) SR: 10.25

England 155/8   KP Pietersen 50* (108b 6x4)   SK Warne 4-0-10-1

54.5

Lee to Pietersen, OUT, but he's gone now! Pietersen tried to hit this over long-off, inside out, but found the best Australia fielder, Andrew Symonds, who came running in, steadied himself and took a fine catch

KP Pietersen c Symonds b Lee 70 (180m 123b 8x4 1x6) SR: 56.91

England 175/9   SJ Harmison 0* (2b)   B Lee 15.5-1-56-2

64.1

Clark to Harmison, OUT, out at last. A leading edge and Lee at mid-on does well to judge that one - it was hanging in the air for some time - and he takes a high catch, fingers pointing upwards. Australia have broken the stand (England's highest) at last

SJ Harmison c Lee b Clark 23 (56m 33b 3x4 0x6) SR: 69.69

England 215/10   MS Panesar 16* (26b 3x4)   SR Clark 15.1-3-49-3
