Tea, 3.40 pm local time: "Security are out in force on the hill to scrutinise... plastic balls. So far they've confiscated an AFL ball and a beachball. Unsportingness 2, Fun 0," reports Jenny Thompson from the Adelaide Oval.

"The Bharat Army are all over the Cathedral End, and they're chanting "India! India. India! India." alternating with "Sachin. Sachin. Sachin. Sachin." The atmosphere's a huge, huge contrast to barren state days here."

India have scored 98 runs in that session for the loss of Sehwag and Ganguly. Tendulkar's batting on 55 -his 50th half-century - and HRG tells me that only Border (63), R Dravid (51) are ahead of him. I'll be back in 20 minutes for the final session of the day.

He's unbeaten on 124 and has held the Indian innings together after they were 156 for 4 at one stage.

India end the day on 309 for 5 and they will be pleased with that effort after choosing to bat. Brett Lee was the best bowler today and he bowled 22 overs at serious pace and picked up the crucial wickets of Sehwag and Laxman.

I'll be back at 10.30 local time tomorrow for the second day's play. Thank you for all your emails, until tomorrow this is George Binoy signing off.

10.58 am local time: Let's get it started! Brett Lee is pacing at the top of his mark with the second new ball in his hand. He's bowling from over the wicket. Tendulkar takes guard, preparing to face the first ball. Two slips and a gully in place.

10.40 am: Hello everybody and welcome to the second day's play at the Adelaide Oval. The weather is looks clear for the moment so we'll just have the cricket to focus on for the moment.

India pipped Australia to take the first day's honours, ending on 309 for 5 but how far they are able to stretch that this morning will depend on whether Tendulkar can convert his outstanding century into a really big one. He has Dhoni batting with him and the bowlers to follow.

For Australia, the key will be Brett Lee and he will bowl with a second new ball that is only one over old. Lee was outstanding - he bowled with pace and displayed durability - and will push for the early wicket.

"George, you are late as usual," emails Rahul, who probably followed one of the recent India-Pakistan Tests. Sorry about that.

"Sir Don Bradman has made three centuries on this ground and each time he has scored a double century !! Can Tendulkar be a Bradman on this ground?" asks Devan.

"Sachin can be Sir Don Bradman by scoring a double, but only if Dhoni supports him well. Lot is being said about Sachin's role today, but Dhoni's innings will be equally important and he will definitely be under more pressure," emails Manish.

Andy has worries about something Australia has hardly had to worry about in the past - their catching. "What's happened to Australia's catching this series? We're supposed to have the best fielders in the world, yet Symonds, Clarke, Hayden and Gilchrist have all dropped catches behind the stumps!"
