Trans-Tasman Trophy - 1st Test

Australia v New Zealand

Australia won by 149 runs

Overs 0-50

5.1

Clark to Redmond, OUT, what a start for Australia! Redmond caught out early, perhaps a loss of concentration, Clark pitches outside off and moves it away slightly, the ball kicks up a bot on Redmond and he hangs his bat out and edges to Ponting who dives to his right and cups it comfortably

AJ Redmond c Ponting b Clark 3 (25m 19b 0x4 0x6) SR: 15.78

New Zealand 7/1   JM How 2* (14b)   SR Clark 2.1-0-4-1

14.4

Lee to How, OUT, Timber! Lee really bends his back there, he bowls it full and gets it to swing in, How shapes to drive but the ball just straightens and shaves the off stump, Lee set him up the previous delivery with a full ball at good pace, timely breakthrough for Australia

JM How b Lee 14 (65m 39b 2x4 0x6) SR: 35.89

New Zealand 44/2   JD Ryder 20* (35b 4x4)   B Lee 7.4-2-21-1

19.3

Watson to Ryder, OUT, that's a giveaway but Australia will gleefully accept it, Watson angles it wide across the left hander and lands it on a fullish length, Ryder opts the wrong shot - the cut - and stays rooted to the crease, very easy take for Haddin this time, a good comeback for the keeper after dropping the same batsman earlier today. Wrong choice of shot, to sum it up

JD Ryder c †Haddin b Watson 30 (70m 50b 5x4 0x6) SR: 60.00

New Zealand 64/3   LRPL Taylor 10* (14b 2x4)   SR Watson 1.3-0-12-1

20.6

Johnson to McCullum, OUT, Australia are really on top at the moment, he pitches it up on the offstump and draws McCullum forward, the ball moves away slightly, catches the outside edge and travels to Ponting at second slip, excellent delivery by Johnson

BB McCullum c Ponting b Johnson 8 (7m 8b 2x4 0x6) SR: 100.00

New Zealand 73/4   LRPL Taylor 11* (15b 2x4)   MG Johnson 2-0-11-1

30.5

Lee to Taylor, OUT, slow death by Koertzen and Lee strikes straight after lunch, it pitches just back of a length and skids through, Taylor shapes to play it to the on side but the ball doesn't bounce as much and angles towards the pads, it appears to hit him just in line with the legstump

LRPL Taylor lbw b Lee 40 (77m 51b 7x4 0x6) SR: 78.43

New Zealand 108/5   DR Flynn 6* (23b 1x4)   B Lee 9.5-2-22-2

41.4

Watson to Elliott, OUT, Watson gets this one to nip back in and skid through, Elliott goes for the drive but fails to cover the line, the ball clips bis pad first and then knocks the leg bail down, it all happened so quickly that Elliott didn't know he was bowled, he stood there for a couple of seconds and Doctrove had to point to the stumps, even Watson didn't know what happened and in fact he turned around to appeal

GD Elliott b Watson 9 (48m 32b 2x4 0x6) SR: 28.12

New Zealand 127/6   DR Flynn 15* (56b 3x4)   SR Watson 8.4-2-28-2

46.2

Johnson to Vettori, OUT, iron man is gone. Johnson pulls his length back a bit as Vettori comes forward in an attempt to drive it away square. Johnson, also slowed the pace as Vettori is well into the shot and ends up lobbing a catch to Symonds at point

DL Vettori c Symonds b Johnson 2 (26m 12b 0x4 0x6) SR: 16.66

New Zealand 143/7   DR Flynn 28* (73b 5x4)   MG Johnson 6.2-1-30-2

46.6

Johnson to Southee, OUT, the trap works as Johnson bowls a fuller delivery on the off and middle. Southee, has no other option but to poke at it. The resultant outside edge is taken by Symonds at backward point. Symonds had enough time to cup his hands to take the catch. No batting heroics from Southee

TG Southee c Symonds b Johnson 0 (3m 4b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

New Zealand 143/8   DR Flynn 28* (73b 5x4)   MG Johnson 7-2-30-3

48.1

Johnson to O'Brien, OUT, again the fuller length delivery works for the tail-ender as he bowls one on the off stump and it takes the outside edge to Michael Clarke at third slip and Johnson has two in two

IE O'Brien c Clarke b Johnson 1 (4m 3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 33.33

New Zealand 149/9   DR Flynn 33* (77b 6x4)   MG Johnson 7.1-2-30-4

49.6

Clark to Martin, OUT, timber! Clark bowls it straight, on the base of the stumps and Martin cannot get his bat behind it, one of the easiest wickets for Clark

CS Martin b Clark 1 (8m 8b 0x4 0x6) SR: 12.50

New Zealand 156/10   DR Flynn 39* (80b 7x4)   SR Clark 15-2-46-2
