So NZ round off the day with a steady partnership of 34. Both are naturally aggressive players but have tempered their game to suit the situation. New Zealand probably haven't done full justice to this pitch today by ending six wickets down. Save for Daniel Flynn, the rest gave their wickets away by trying to go over the top. Credit to the Australian bowlers for bowling well within themselves after a difficult first session and the fielders backed them up well too.

Thanks for your company. I'll be back tomorrow so till then it's goodbye for now.

10.29 The players are out. Here's Lee

Good morning and welcome to Cricinfo's coverage of the second day of this Test at the Adelaide Oval. This is Kanishkaa returning to take you through the day. As always, it's a very good morning to Raghav, Peter English and Brydon Coverdale.

Scores of 500-plus are common at Adelaide but it's a very stiff ask for NZ at this stage. They still have their last recognised batting pair at the crease and they will look to push on as far as possible and stretch this score. 350 will be their first target. Australia showed that a disciplined line and length can keep batsmen quiet on this pitch. Stuart Clark managed that yesterday.

The sun's out at the Oval so we should have an uninterrupted day. We're about five minutes from the start. Time to unwind with a cup of coffee.

CS Martin b Lee 0 (8m 5b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Lee finishes with 4 for 66 and NZ ed on a disappointing 270, after opting to bat. Their batsmen needed to find form after Brisbane but with the exception of Redmond, the rest failed to capitalise. It's time for Scott Styris to change his mind and come out of Test retirement.

The Australian seamers really stifled the batsmen and Johnson deserves a lot of credit for peppering them with bouncers.

Matthew: "Last four wickets couldnt survive 10 overs this morning and added 8 runs. Truly pathetic from New Zealand. I don't care how well the guys are bowling, the call for franklin against west indies is getting louder all the time after his double ton this week."
