Norman Dick had a brief first-class career, playing two matches for Orange Free State in 1922-23. He subsequently emigrated to Newfoundland - via Jamaica, New York and Montreal - where he established his own heating and refrigeration business. He served with distinction in the Great War with the South African Regiment, and was one of the 3,150 South Africans who fought and one of the 780 who survived.
