Australia v Sri Lanka

Australia won by 96 runs

Fernando to Hayden, OUT, And there it is. Fernando strikes. Hayden's charmed innings ends. Finally Sri Lanka get there reward. Short of a length ball, wide of off stump, Hayden goes for the fierce cut but only manages an under-edge. Loud sound there and Prasanna Jayawardene makes no mistake behind the stumps. Rudi Koertzen doesn't give it straight away, Hayden stands his ground but finally the dreaded finger goes up. There was no doubt about that one. One down.

Muralitharan to Ponting, OUT, It's the master who prevails! Murali strikes. Fantastic bit of bowling against a batsman using his feet so well. Sucker punch from Murali, the doosra pitched perfectly on off and spinning away, Ponting takes a stride forward and pushes, gets the edge and Mahela Jayawardene gobbles up the catch at first slip. Ponting was looking on top but it's Murali who prevails. A great batsman done in by a great bowler. Six to go for the record. This may be a special Test.

Jayasuriya to Jaques, OUT, Holes out, a magnificent innings comes to an end, down the track and lobs it over the bowler's head, can't get the timing, though, and he finds Dilhara Fernando prowling at long-off, completing a simple catch. Jaques was caught between belting the ball and chipping it, ending up lobbing it to the fielder instead. Fine innings, though. Set the tone on the first morning. Put Australia in the box seat

PA Jaques c Fernando b Jayasuriya 150 (329m 237b 18x4 0x6) SR: 63.29

Fernando to Hussey, OUT, Now where did that come from! 135kph, superb inswinging yorker from Fernando and it crashes into Hussey's front toe. He tries to dig it out but can't make allowance for the swing. Big appeal and the umpire's finger goes up straight away. Fernando has had a mixed day but this was a top-notch delivery. That was hitting the base of middle stump. Hussey departs to a standing ovation.

MEK Hussey lbw b Fernando 132 (282m 220b 18x4 1x6) SR: 60.00

Australia 410/4   MJ Clarke 58* (99b 7x4)   CRD Fernando 19.2-4-97-2

Malinga to Clarke, OUT, strangled down leg side! It was short in length, moving down the leg side, Clarke tries to glance it but gets a glove to it and the 'keeper dives acrobatically to his left to take a fab catch.

MJ Clarke c †HAPW Jayawardene b Malinga 71 (174m 123b 8x4 0x6) SR: 57.72
