10.30 Right, time for some cricket. Gayle and Barath are set. Bollinger has the ball. Left-arm over the stumps. Three slips in place. Play ball!

10.22 The teams are lined up for their national anthems.

"What national athem is sung for the West Indies as they are representing a few countries?" asks Chris on email.

Sorry, my ignorant self doesn't know the answer. I think a Google search would help. Considering they are not a nation, but a collection of nations, it's a bit like having a European national anthem. Or not. I am told that there is a specific anthem for the cricket team. Any West Indians out there who can clarify before play start in three minutes?

And promptly comes an email from Ramz: "David Rudder - Rally around the WI is the name of the WI anthem." A few more emails land saying the same. Thanks for that, champs.

10.10 Just 20 minutes till tee-off. Looks likes good conditions for batting. West Indies will really need something special from Gayle. He's due, even though his record here isn't too hot at all. Sarwan's return will seriously reinforce the line-up too.

"Can Gayle carry out a similar blitzkrieg as Sehwag did against SL?" asks Nirav. "Its certainly hard to do against Aussie in OZ but who knows which way the wind will come from and gale all the bowls over the boundary."

Well I think this track will be a bit more sporting than the one at the Brabourne, and this attack a bit more testing. And Sehwag is just a special player.

10.00 Time to see whats happening about that toss. And word is that Chris Gayle has won and West Indies will bat. Ramnaresh Sarwan and Darren Sammy have come in. Sarwan is back from his back injury and Travis Dowlin has been dropped. Sammy replaces Jerome Taylor, who has gone home with a back injury.

Here are the teams:

Australia: 1 Simon Katich, 2 Shane Watson, 3 Ricky Ponting (capt), 4 Michael Hussey, 5 Michael Clarke, 6 Marcus North, 7 Brad Haddin (wk), 8 Mitchell Johnson, 9 Nathan Hauritz, 10 Peter Siddle, 11 Doug Bollinger.

West Indies: 1 Chris Gayle (capt), 2 Adrian Barath, 3 Ramnaresh Sarwan, 4 Shivnarine Chanderpaul, 5 Dwayne Bravo, 6 Brendan Nash, 7 Denesh Ramdin (wk), 8 Darren Sammy, 9 Sulieman Benn, 10 Kemar Roach, 11 Ravi Rampaul.

9.50 With time to kill, I've been checking our commentary feedback inbox. Here's the first one, from Adam: "A blistering heatwave and out-of-character storms have passed Adelaide in the last few weeks, but this weather is absolutely perfect! Unfortunately, it's only Friday and it won't be until tomorrow when I can perch on the hill and knock back a quiet couple!"

To which Randy replies: "That's an ironic comment from Adam about the weather because down here in New York its been blistering cold all week and today's been a perfect summer day especially for cricket. Hope we have a good match, Go West Indies!!"

9.35 A very good morning to you and welcome to Cricinfo's live coverage of the second Test in Adelaide. Glad to have your company today and here's hoping for a good Test. I'm Jamie Alter, your commentator, with Binoy George on scoring. David Walsh will be making appearances on commentary today. Its his debut on our newer system, so lets give him a round of applause.

Still some time to go till the toss. Get yourselves set in etc.

0.1

Bollinger to Gayle, 2 runs, starts off full and Gayle thrusts forward, bat and pad tucked together, and runs the ball down behind backward point for a couple first up

0.2

Bollinger to Gayle, FOUR, aims for some swing but slants it down the pads and Gayle glances it in the air wide of Haddin for four

0.3

Bollinger to Gayle, no run, even wider down the pads, no contact with the bat and Haddin lunges himself to collect the ball

0.4

Bollinger to Gayle, 1 run, short of a length outside off, gets some bounce but Gayle, the hulk that he is, gets over it and nicely dabs it in front of cover-point and looks up briefly at Barath, who nods and they scamper the run, good stuff from them

0.5

Bollinger to Barath, no run, full outside off, 142ks, angles away and Barath shoulders arms

Henry: "I'm happy to see Sarwan back in the side, but I cant believe they dropped Dowlin as he was the only to show any fight in the first innings. I would have kept him and dropped Nash. I have nothing personal against Nash, I just dont believe that the future of West Indies cricket lies with Australian mercenaries."

0.6

Bollinger to Barath, no run, short of a length this time and Barath hurries to defend, running the ball down to the man at gully

End of the first over, its seven for no loss.

Here's Siddle. He's been talking up how he wants to master the subtle art of swing.

1.1

Siddle to Gayle, no run, low full toss on off stump and Gayle pats it back down the track

1.2

Siddle to Gayle, FOUR, yeah not the best of starts for Siddle, who follows up a full toss with a juicy half-volley which Gayle drives easily past mid-off for four more

1.3

Siddle to Gayle, 1 run, not as full, and straightens after pitching, 140ks, Gayle thrusts pad and bat together and pokes the ball into the covers for a scampered single

1.4

Siddle to Barath, no run, tries to play it to the leg side but gets a leading edge to the off

1.5

Siddle to Barath, no run, slants down the pads and Barath nudges it off his hips

1.6

Siddle to Barath, no run, comes onto the front foot and drives with a bit too much bottom hand

Riddymon: "It doesn't really matter where you were born, as long as your eligible to represent and you can bring some stability to a VERY unstable side, they'll take all the mercernaries they can get."

Bollinger to Gayle, no run, short outside off stump, 143ks, gets Gayle standing up tall to play the ball safely down in front of point

2.2

Bollinger to Gayle, no run, back of a length with a wee bit of shape, Gayle hangs back before gently pressing forward to run the ball to backward point

2.3

Bollinger to Gayle, no run, well bowled, 143ks, slants back in and Gayle pushes to cover

2.4

Bollinger to Gayle, 1 no ball, shorter ball but he's overstepped, Gayle hops back to defend

Nick: "I agree with Henry. Sarwan an important part of the WI middle order, apart from Chanderpaul he has been their best performer over the past 2 years, but, Dowlin very stiff to be dropped. Maybe Dowlin will come under consideration if Nash fails twice again.........an important match for the ex Aussie who may be nervous."

2.4

Bollinger to Gayle, FOUR, top shot from Gayle, walking across the sticks to clip a full ball excellently between midwicket and mid-on for four, it was pitched up and there to be hit

2.5

Bollinger to Gayle, no run, ah, very nearly drags that one back as he goes for a shorter one from Bollinger, the lack of footwork ended up in a cramped shot

2.6

Bollinger to Gayle, SIX, hello, where's that gone? Awesome shot to one pitched up in the slot! Gayle goes hard, he goes straight and he goes six, just punching it straight back over Bollinger's head, nice high elbow and all, and he stands and admired his handiwork

The score is 23 and Gayle has 22 of them. Barath yet to score.

3.1

Siddle to Barath, no run, slides well down the pads, Barath misses, Haddin collects

3.2

Siddle to Barath, 2 runs, overpitched and Barath squeezes a drive past extra cover to open his account

3.3

Siddle to Barath, no run, gets back in line to defend a short delivery on the stumps

Ed: "West Indies future is bright. Barath and Gayle form a decent opening batting partnership, whilst Edwards and Roach do the same with the ball. Sarwan and Chanderpaul are world class and Ramdin is coming in to his prime. Come on Windies!!"

3.4

Siddle to Barath, no run, good ball! Siddle bangs it in just outside off stump and gets good carry, Barath is nearly forced into fending but just manages to pull out of the ball's passage

Watson in at a sort of short midwicket ... third slip is out

3.5

Siddle to Barath, no run, good length, 146ks, forcing Barath to defend to cover

3.6

Siddle to Barath, 1 run, strays down the leg side and he shuffles to work it around the corner

We've not seen much swing so far. Tidy little start this from West Indies.

4.1

Bollinger to Barath, no run, nice and straight, 148ks, and watchfully patted back

Hayden: "adelaide was one of nash's better venues when he played for queesland. and with only 3 windies players having played a test here before could be why nash got another chance?"

4.2

Bollinger to Barath, no run, bouncer this time over the stumps, 138ks, and Barath, a short little guy, ducks under it

4.3

Bollinger to Barath, OUT, oh well held Hussey! Superb athletic catch at gully by Hussey, who throws himself horizontally to his left and intercepts a loose flash from Barath outside off stump, forced into that shot by the fuller and wide length but failed to keep it down

AB Barath c Hussey b Bollinger 3 (20m 14b 0x4 0x6) SR: 21.42

He's taken some good catches in that area and he can check another one. Put that down to a stunning effort. Barath chased the ball hard but Hussey plucked it. Here's Sarwan in at No.3.

4.4

Bollinger to Sarwan, no run, full ball with a hint of shape back in, 144ks, and Sarwan pushes it back

4.5

Bollinger to Sarwan, 1 run, digs in a short ball on the body, Sarwan jumps up and knocks it to the leg side and runs a sharps single to get off the mark, Bollinger runs to square leg to collect

4.6

Bollinger to Gayle, no run, full about a foot and a half outside off and Gayle leaves it be

So Bollinger gets his name into the final column early.

Two slips now. Short midwicket in place.

5.1

Siddle to Sarwan, no run, good short ball outside off stump, 142ks, sits up and deviates as Sarwan drops the wrists and arches back out of harm's way

5.2

Siddle to Sarwan, no run, now he goes full outside off, tempting a drive, but Sarwan plants his front foot forward and shoulder arms

5.3

Siddle to Sarwan, no run, just pulls back the length a shade and Sarwan, hanging on the back foot, pushes the ball to point

5.4

Siddle to Sarwan, no run, back to full and this time slants it back into Sarwan, who presses forward and gets an inside edge that tangles between the feet and bat

5.5

Siddle to Sarwan, no run, straighter ball, 144ks, pushed back with a straight bat

5.6

Siddle to Sarwan, 1 run, nice crisp punch off the back foot to a shorter ball, Sarwan just picking the space to extra cover's left and running down to end the over

Six overs and we have an inspection of the ball. Bollinger ambles over to his mark. A new box of balls is called for. Ian Gould holds up the ball as Bollinger and Johnson inspect. Mark Benson inspects the replacements. New ball is taken. Three slips await. Two men out for the hook and pull.

Bollinger to Sarwan, no run, back of a length to Sarwan, who still hangs back, ends up pushing and inside-edging to the leg side

6.4

6.5

Bollinger to Sarwan, no run, shorter ball, 144ks, Sarwan hops back and defends

Not swing yet. Looks a nice batting strip. Siddle has been inconsistent.

7.1

Siddle to Gayle, no run, nearly goes through Gayle as he stands and pushes at one pitching short of a length, not much footwork and the result is an inside edge very near leg stump

7.2

Siddle to Gayle, no run, good change-up from Siddle, following up with a full ball that angles across Gayle and lures him into a loose push outside off and beats the bat with the seam

7.3

Siddle to Gayle, no run, much fuller as he searches for swing, punched to mid-off

7.4

Siddle to Gayle, no run, there's that unorthodox defense from Gayle, not moving at all as he pushes at the ball with one hand off the handle, running it to backward point

7.5

Siddle to Gayle, no run, hits the seam and does a bit after pitching on leg stump, Gayle again pushes at it awkwardly and picks out backward point

7.6

Siddle to Gayle, FOUR, that's what he likes doing! Siddle veers a little wider and Gayle plays another effortless six down the ground, punching it with a high elbow and the result is four

8.3

Bollinger to Gayle, no run, short ball outside off stump, 144ks, and he gets back and plays it down in front of point with soft hands

8.4

Bollinger to Gayle, OUT, sharp catch from Haddin! Bollinger slips in a bouncer just outside off stump and Gayle goes after it, trying to uppercut it over the slips, but its too close to his body and he snicks it off the shoulder of the bat and Haddin leaps up to his right and plucks it from out of nowhere, it was travelling high and fast but he snapped it

CH Gayle c †Haddin b Bollinger 26 (43m 23b 4x4 1x6) SR: 113.04

Bollinger, generally bowling a fuller length, gets his second with a short ball. Good direction on that one. Gayle was in no position to play that shot. Good catch from Haddin. Massive wicket. In walks Chanders.

Jason: "I'm going to get flamed for this, but Gayle is a hack and should be removed as captain. What kind of idiot, who should be a mentor and role model for his young players, plays so carelessly and so selfishly? What good is a test opener with 150+ strike rate if he averages only 30-odd. Strip him of his captaincy, put him back down to no.6 (at best), and let some talent lift the team. Better yet, leave him in T20 - he's just embarrassing himself here."

8.5

Bollinger to Chanderpaul, no run, shuffles back and across and defends one slanting in

8.6

Bollinger to Chanderpaul, no run, gets right outside his crease and pokes at one outside off, running it down towards backward point

9.3

Siddle to Sarwan, no run, 140ks, held back in length, Sarwan starts to leave but the ball clips the outer half and rolls to gully

Tony Berryman-Long: "Have to agree with jason. If he was doing his job he'd be trying to make 100 not going so hard all the time. He's too hit and miss, mainly miss!"

9.4

9.6

Siddle to Sarwan, FOUR, overpitched and he's onto the front foot in a hurry, driving nicely past Watson at cover on the rise for four more

Mitch: "Couldn't agree more with Jason. For someone with as much raw talent as Gayle he bats like a joke. No pride in his wicket. No pride in his team. The two worst qualities in any test cricketer. Even Glenn McGrath had pride in his wicket."

Siddle to Chanderpaul, no run, fuller, just, and he gets across and turns it to midwicket

11.5

Bollinger to Chanderpaul, no run, much fuller to Chanders, who walks across his sticks and works the ball to the man at midwicket

34.5

Bollinger to Chanderpaul, no run, edged and taken! Yes? No? A loose flirt from Chanderpaul, who doesn't hop across as much this time as he feels for one just pitching back of a length outside off stump, there's a wee bit of deviation through to Haddin who takes it and sets off in celebration towards Bollinger, but there's no reaction from the umpire and so the Australians ask for the review ... and after several replays the verdict is that Chanders misses the ball. How close was that? There wasn't a noise but there was some deviation. Hotspot shows a sticker on the bat. Did the ball hit that? The decision is not out and Bollinger and Ponting are clearly not impressed. Ponting shakes his head, puts up his arms, Bollinger spits. Chanders gets back to his mark and readies himself for the next ball. Inconclusive evidence, says the third umpire.

34.6

Bollinger to Chanderpaul, no run, his response is a short ball which Chanders tucks off his ribs to square leg

Well that was an eventful over. Bollinger believed he had his man. Chanders survives. No noise. Hotspot didn't show a nick. Where was Snicko? Here's Watson to bowl.
