James Baird was one of Victoria's finest allround sportsmen. He played ten matches for Victoria as a right-arm medium-pacer immediately after World War II. He was also an outstanding Australian Rules footballer, and once came third in the Stanwell Gift, the world-renowned professional sprint race.
