When tall left-hander Ben Cooper retired in January 2022, no other Netherlands batter had more runs in T20Is than his 1239. He was also then the only Dutch player to go past 1000 T20 career runs.

Cooper made the journey to the Netherlands side partly in his older brother Tom's footsteps. Both were dual citizens of the Netherlands and Australia, and Ben rose up through the ranks in Australian junior cricket to represent Northern Territory at the U-19 National Championship in 2010, the same year his brother debuted for Netherlands. In summer 2013, Cooper joined his brother in the Dutch Topklasse limited-overs competition, and finished as the leading run-scorer that season with 866 runs. He was called up to the national side the same year, making his debut against Canada in the World Cricket League (WCL) Championship.

While his individual numbers in Dutch colours weren't always notable, Cooper was part of a pair of epic partnerships in 2017. In February, he teamed with Pieter Seelaar for a record 288-run stand for the sixth wicket in an Intercontinental Cup match in Hong Kong to salvage a memorable draw, contributing a Player-of-the-Match 173 not out. He later made an unbeaten century as part of a 236-run partnership with Wesley Barresi in the WCL Championship in December - the highest stand for any wicket in the competition's history, propelling Netherlands to a win over Namibia that helped them regain ODI status again.

Cooper retired in 2022 with another unheralded record - his 35 catches in T20Is were the most by a Netherlands player not a wicketkeeper.
