Duronto Rajshahi defended just 99 runs and stunned Chittagong Kings with a two-run win. The low-scoring game was never out of anyone's grip, and neither was it in any side's complete grasp in the second half, but Duronto pulled it off with accurate bowling, backed up by excellent work in the field.

With three runs required from the final over bowled by Sean Ervine, Kings still had three wickets in hand, but Ervine got Marshall Ayub caught at point by Abul Hassan on the first ball. This was followed by Tamim Iqbal's direct hit from mid-off at the non-striker's end to run out Enamul Haque jnr before Arafat Sunny's attempted scoop did not connect as Ervine hit the stumps. It was a win out of nothing for Duronto, who chipped away at the Kings batting line-up. But it was seen by less than a thousand people at the ground due to high ticket prices, leaving the organisers frustrated.

A band of young, unknown left-arm spinners - Monir Hossain, Naeem Islam jnr and Taijul Islam - bowled very well at the top. They kept Brendan Taylor, Jason Roy and Ravi Bopara quiet and the trio fell cheaply. Subsequently, captain Mahmudullah held the innings with a 42-ball 40, but found little support from anyone else.

Mehrab Hossain jnr made 18 but his attempt to clear midwicket failed as he found Abul Hasan, who took a sharp catch off Farhad Hossain's off-spin. Jacob Oram fell to a pull to Hasan at fine leg before Mahmudullah was caught at long-on by his opposite number Tamim. Marshall had the duty to finish off but he also survived a dropped catch by Ziaur Rahman at deep cover in the penultimate over with six runs required. Duronto dominated when it mattered, in the final three overs, when they bowled enough dot balls to bring out the wickets. Abul was the best bowler on show, taking 3 for 20 from his four overs.

The earlier part of the day was Kings' however, after Oram ran out Jahurul Islam in the first over. Moeen Ali and Tamim threw away their wickets with unwise swipes while allrounders Ervine and Ziaur also fell cheaply to the mixed-bag bowling attack. Mukhtar Ali scored an unbeaten 22 which prolonged the innings into the final over but 99 runs just seemed to be too little. Until Duronto showed their team spirit to turn the tables.

yeah ticket price is too high. Regardless, I can grantee semi-final and final matches will have a packed house for sure. It will look like Bangladesh national team is playing against some test nation. lol. 350/game is too high. Everyone is complaining about it, including the team owners. I am not shocked though. That is what happens when you give these kind of rights to some foreign company.

BPL can help BD cricket in three ways. First when TOP class foreign players will play then it will be good experience for our young players, specially confidence and mental strength. Second BCB can earn a handsome amount of money through successful completion which ultimately help BD cricket development. Third, it can work for decentralization of cricket in BD like while Duronto Rajshahi playing at Rajshahi and Sylhet royals at Sythet stadiums with home crowds. i will urge BCB to take all kinds of precautionary for avoiding any kind of negative appeal for BPL. Only top class foreign players will encourage to participate in competition through successful and positive reputation about BPL. We need top class players from England, Australia, SA, NZ, and WI, Srilanka. Only completion is not enough, but successful completion is mandatory. Want to see more competitive matches like chasing big scores. Best O Luck BPL.

Where my previous comments gone which was publised in this loop? @Mehdi Rah: Still we are in easly stage on BPL2 to compare team strength..So far 4 matchs have been played I did not find any wrong....only the less number of supporter in the gallery... due to very high price(allmost double than previous BPL) of the ticket. Once ticket price been reduced spectator will come to watch live in stadium gallery.

the best match of BPL so far. thrilling match & a great fight back by Rajshahi. Wish Chittagong do well against Khulna.

i was supporting Rajshahi because of Tamim and Zia being on that group! And OMG what a match it turned out to be! superb stuff. Followed by Ashraful and Nasir's blitz in the next match! It was an amazing day for BPL indeed. :D Would love to see how Chittagong does against Dhaka. Then they true bowling quality will reveal! So far Dhaka played 200+ innings in both matches. They seems to be an undefined champion of this tournament so far. But then again, today's result again reminded us the fact, 'noting is impossible'. So let the game begin!!

PS: all Bangladeshi fans, please do not say anything in respond to the Pakistani fans. BCB has decided not to waste their energy talking to PCB anymore, we should do the same. :D

what a match it was.....it has proved that ''cricket is the game of glorious uncertainty'' and BPL starts in style.

@rasel_drubo i think you really remember what happened last time. and Few days back what Shakib had told the press. It is a culture here to take important issues in last minutes without planned it early. if any further problems about payment comes next time, i am afraid about BPL. BPL a franchise based t20 is a competition to make money for BCB which help for future development in BD cricket. and Global appeal, popularity, competitiveness, tv ratings are very important to make it successful. in Last 4 matches 3 was just one sided and a low score match in t20 like 99 is average. the difference between teams strength is clearly visible. It is understandable that the teams did not get enough time for replacements.. My question is why BCB took last minute decisions when they know about the consequences?

Posted by Lotapata on (January 19, 2013, 18:39 GMT)

Arafat Sunny is a good bowler. His stats prove it too. Hope to see this guy in BCB or A eleven soon.

In every consideration Nasir Hossain's innings was best than Ashraful's one but adjudicators awarded Ashraful the man of the match. I think cricket experts are need to get out of this conventional thinking of awarding every time the winning side's player. In Dhaka Galdiator's innings Ashraful made the highest score but the finest and net and clean came from Nasis with most number of sixes while the Rangpur openers failed to maintain their requirement from the beginning. We the crick fans expect that every section of the game should be fair, impartial and well-judged and every player should get their due recognition on the day he performs.

I bet Tamim loved it especially when he played for his local town last year and gave them a taste of their own medicine.

For the first time I saw such a low-scoring dramatic thriller in BPL. The first match result for the old 6 teams got reversed than the previous season. Really was a great match to watch.

Posted by Warm_Coffee on (January 19, 2013, 15:41 GMT)

Does anyone even know the lowest T20 score ever defended anyway?

2nd innings was indeed a thrill.

@VVS_VikramKapoor I don't think it was live in India..as espn was showing Ind Vs Eng match..Yesterday's matches were shown on espn star..I followed up at cricinfo and enjoyed it.

Brilliant game, Rajshahi came back nicely in the last over. Gotta say I am disappointed with how the last wickets of Kings fell, that run was pretty unnecessary(it was 3 runs of 5 balls, not the other way around)

Posted by   on (January 19, 2013, 15:14 GMT)

Only Dhaka Gladiators looks like full strength team...others look like struggling with Pakistani replacement. BCB can make a decision about 20 day's before of this tournament but at eleventh hour they make important decisions as always. A dame T20 league will not help either BCB or viewers to make it a successful one. What about payment issue..have they paid 25% in advance to every players?

Posted by ramesh_rocks on (January 19, 2013, 15:02 GMT)

That's why I like these low scoring matches..It was good game..Best of luck BPL - From Indian Fan
