Khulna Royal Bengals achieved their first victory of the BPL, against Duronto Rajshahi, by a convincing margin of 68 runs. The foundation was laid by the captain Shahriar Nafees' record-breaking century and his unbeaten opening stand of 197 with Lou Vincent, a BPL record. The defeat kept Rajshahi level on points with Barisal Burners, Chittagong Kings and now Royal Bengals.

It was also the first time a side batting first completed its innings without the loss of a wicket. Nafees scored 102 off 69 balls with 12 fours and two sixes, becoming the first Bangladesh batsman to score a Twenty20 century. He beat Tamim Iqbal's 93 for Wayamba United. It is also the first of this BPL season and the fifth overall.

Vincent, who has two Twenty20 centuries, supported Nafees through the 20 overs, providing him with enough strike and entertaining the crowd with some deft strokes. He made 89 off 51 balls with eight sixes, the most for any batsman in an innings this year. The pair's opening stand is also a BPL record for any wicket, beating the previous best of 167 between Ahmed Shehzad and Chris Gayle in the inaugural match last year. It is the fourth highest in all Twenty20s.

Rajshahi started the chase of 198 positively but lost their way once Tamim, Charles Coventry and Jahurul Islam had got out by the 11th over. Khulna looked hungrier to win than in their previous games in the tournament, and completed the crushing win in the penultimate over, bowling their opponents out for 129.

@Musab: This is a Bangladeshi league mate big deal whether Pakistani players are better or not, this is our league specifically for our players not yours so I don't understand your problem. No the other way around Afghanistan should learn from us because they are not better than India or Bangladesh in Cricket :P

Posted by   on (January 26, 2013, 5:07 GMT)

Pakistani dpmestice players are much better than Bangladeshi,Indian players...Its a matter of fact regarding the quality of talented players and "inbreeding" a combination of genuine fast bowlers and spiners..apart from it t/20 is a short format of cricket, so we cant judge a batsman if he played a knock of 100 runs or so the outcome of t/20 game should be the quality of bowlers which lacks in india and bangladesh...both teams should learned from Afghanistan..

wow nafees was great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by TheRisingTeam on (January 25, 2013, 18:58 GMT)

@allway:- Problem??? good to see some fans of other teams checking out how those Bangladeshi players are performing and what they will do in the International arena again. I can see a few players retiring after the South Africa series, yeap indeed :)

Posted by TheRisingTeam on (January 25, 2013, 18:56 GMT)

@Musab Shakeel Mallick:- Actually if you bothered to read the article properly, a score of 197 was posted and before that 2 200 scores. A Bangladeshi player the other day made so far the catch of the year and crowd will build on its own as the tournament progresses so next time don't guess :P

One of the worst bowling performances I have ever seen in a T20 game.. The batsmen were just swinging merrily and the bowlers were bowling in their arc without changing any angle or variations... Katich was poor as Captain and I have never seen Tamim perform consistently.. Just too overhyped...

Lack of crowd, low scoring matches, quality of fielding, and dusty outfield tells the story of the 2nd "SUCCESSFUL" edition of "BPL...

Nafees played a gem of innings here now he should be a permanent part of BD team for both formats

Posted by CrICkeeet on (January 25, 2013, 4:58 GMT)

Sorry, the WORLD record is 2 openers batted full 20 overs, not 197 thats also superb

Posted by CrICkeeet on (January 25, 2013, 0:48 GMT)

SUPERB battng....unbelieveable....i think this WORLD RECORD (197 runs partnership) wil b very hard 2 wil survive 4 a long tym in t20

best performence by SAHRIAR . this BPL is rocking by BANGLADESHI players .

Posted by visionbangladesh1 on (January 24, 2013, 21:58 GMT)

I am shocked.. I really thought Rajshahi gonna win this one. I feel bad for tamim.. the way he got out was pure bad luck.

Posted by ExtremeSpeed on (January 24, 2013, 21:48 GMT)

Anyway to the topic, surprised Shahriar got a 100 especially if you consider the fact that T20 is hist worst format but when I saw his innings, he was at full concentration and active throughout that whole innings so that clearly shows us fans that T20 Cricket is not just about whacking the first ball you see.

@allway - your arguments are pathetic, because of slow pitches, the asian teams have the best spinners and fast pitches the non-asian teams Australia, South Africa etc don't produce much good spinners as the asian teams but have far better pace bowlers. You think you know everything but yet you don't even play for your national team cause you're nowhere near good lool!! good luck mate!! whether our players are good or not, they are definitely better than you and that's what matters. :)

Posted by Warm_Coffee on (January 24, 2013, 21:17 GMT)

@Pak_alldway: First of all I wasn't even talking to you but glad my comment caught your interest. Secondly bowlers like Mashrafe and Shahadat are over 6 foot so that silly argument of yours is invalid but definitely bigger and stronger than you I can see :P

I still stand by my comment thank you very much good luck for Pakistan in hosting matches and all that again the old team :D

Posted by Pak_alldway on (January 24, 2013, 20:01 GMT)

@warm_coffe:;my friend dont blame pitches try n produce good quality bowlers which u neva did even a one in ur bengal every other bowler prefer to b spinner bcoz they know they dont have the height n physic to bowl fast.

Posted by Warm_Coffee on (January 24, 2013, 19:30 GMT)

@Dust: That's where you blame the BCB for not creating bouncy fast pitches in our stadiums, training grounds etc otherwise not only him but many other Bangladesh batsman would've gotten the chance to correct that problem. Had players like Shahriar and others of Bangladesh gotten to face proper fast bowlers than they would've averaged at least 10 runs higher than they currently do. I don't blame Shahriar Nafees for his dismissals just doesn't that kind of fast bowling in our domestic circuit as our fast bowlers there are ordinary.

Posted by MAN_AT_WORK on (January 24, 2013, 18:42 GMT)

we absolutely enjoyed Shahriar Nafees batting and it is a brilliant century but the thing is he cant play short fast ball at all. If he want to be picked for the country i guess he has to improve facing fast ball properly. He's record playing fast deliveries are not very good !

This years BPL is turning out to be better than last years, specially for the local players. They're getting the opportunity to showcase their talent playing along with some big names in world cricket. From now on there should only be star foreign players so local boys can compete with/against them. That'll do a world of good for their psychie in the crunch time.

@ abcdef_12345: ICL was an unauthorized league. So it's not recognized by ICC.

WOW! Nafees batted like a real T20 batsman tonight! He has a good batting avrg. in FC & OD format but his T20 record was horrible b4 this match. Congrats to him for becoming 1st BD batsman to score a T20 TON. Also congrats to Khulna Openers to score record partnership of 197* (4th highest in T20 history!). Back in 2006, I thought Nafees would b the 1st world class cricketer 4m his country but ICL derailed him. Now it's a great chance for him to firm his place in BD Test squad & also regain his place in ODI & T20I squad too. I wish he can join the class of Shakib, Tamim, Mash, Razzak who've already proved themselves as top class international cricketers.

It was an absolutely outstanding innings by Shahriar Nafees, an outstanding milestone as a Bangladeshi. As well as BPL standard also has been proved successfully.

Superb innings played by past Bd opening batsman This Bpl is belonging 2 our local players.. The way Bpl is going makes me proud ... It shows A lots of shine & bright future of our cricket

Posted by TheRisingTeam on (January 24, 2013, 16:42 GMT)

Excellent 100! excellent partnership! a few records were broken and made in that innings.

Posted by kzaman on (January 24, 2013, 16:41 GMT)

"It was also the first time a side batting first completed its innings without the loss of a wicket."- So, it's a world record in T20 that an opening pair carried the bat throughout the innings..... Great......... BPL-2 is rocking..........

Posted by CrICkeeet on (January 24, 2013, 16:37 GMT)

Wow...openers batted full 20 overs! nd partnership 197 in t20! it'l b really a very hard record 2 break!
