Khulna Royal Bengals 150 for 7 (Nafees 53, Sharif 3-22) beat Rangpur Royals 141 for 7 (Nasir 70*, Zadran 3-21) by 9 runs

Khulna Royal Bengals, playing in front of a packed Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium, beat Rangpur Riders by nine runs. They have now turned around their flagging campaign with two wins in a row. Shahriar Nafees helped set up a competitive total on a pitch that was too slow for big hits before Shapoor Zadran rocked the top order of the opposition.

The fightback made for excellent viewing too, as the Royal Bengals made 106 runs in the last 10 overs, after struggling for 44 for 4 in the first 10. The fielding display also helped stop the Riders, who had won their last two games quite handsomely, from clinching the tight game. Zadran, the Afghanistan left-arm fast bowler, bowled a mean spell to take three wickets in his first two overs, while Daniel Harris kept things tight with his medium pace.

Riders' Nasir Hossain continued his good form, but was the only batsman to put up a fight, hammering 70 off 49 balls with seven fours and two sixes. He found some support from Dimitri Mascarenhas, who was foxed by Sanjamul Islam to hand back the advantage to the Royal Bengals after their 33-run sixth wicket stand.

Khulna's Nafees batted like a captain should, taking responsibility of an innings that lacked direction. Lou Vincent fell early, and the Riders lost three further wickets, but Nafees assumed control. The emphatic pulled six he hit off Fidel Edwards, the same bowler who had struck his face two years ago, was symbolic of his confidence.

Nafees scored 53 off 50 balls with five boundaries and two sixes, and added 70 runs for the fifth wicket with Harris, who stayed unbeaten on 48. Haris provided the final push to take his team to 150.

We alerady have many young players. No one else in Aisa has so many talented young players like we have. So it's high time for us to win big series. I'm quite sure we can beat India even in India at the moment.

Dear@Musab, Pakistan bowlers are not better than rest of asia or world. But they have many talented players who under perform in international cricket. However, I agree with you that Pakistan players need PSL or other source of income.BPL started for same purpose and to improve quality and confidence of our players. Last year was a success and this year, I feel will become more successful because local players are also performing

I dont know y sm ppl bringing IPL in dis one is claiming dat bpl b8r than dis is a gr8 tournament 4 bngldsh cricket widout any doubt... ppl started 2 come nd gallary bcoms full packed in d last 2 matches......nd i'm sure full packed gallary wil continue 4m now in bpl 2..

Some Bangladesh fans say Nasir should bat at 3 or something totally disagree, should be batting between 4-7 positions in any format at International level. As for Shahriar Nafeex, he has to show a lot of consistent performances if he wants to return to the national side.

@Rafelgibt,@extreme Speed...First of all i would like to admit that in india pakistan..domestic players belongs from poor families, they dont have financial support as well as lack of literacy, as well as jobless, these are the factors which enforce them to play foreign leagues..Yes, it is a matter of money, and to overcome this problem PAK starting its own league PSL..which will surely help cricketers to earn handsome amount of money..where as in IPL, BPL, worthless indian and bangladeshi players who have lack in talent gets handsome amount in players, to overcome this "INJUSTICE" we have decided to start our own league PSL, which will surely revive international cricket in pakistan and our talented players will earn money according to their capabilities....As par their talent PAK's national players should be most expensive players specially bowlers...Every indian bowlers lacks in pace as they played more and more cricket! ishant sharma 150+ in Australia and nowsee him lol

For some reason, my other 'formal' comment wasn't published :) anyway @FrenchFan I think Tamim should be dropped takes his place for granted and is way too inconsistent. Nasir looks likely to pass them both because he is consistent and knows his game well but Anamul will be Bangladesh's best batsman.

Posted by FrenchCricketFan on (January 26, 2013, 17:04 GMT)

This is the first bpl game I have ever seen and I didnt expect this would be as good as ipl game but this was indeed a very good high quality game. bpl seems to be going well even before sri-lankan and w.indies players have not started. Pak players would have made it more interesting but it was good for Bengal cricket because some local talents getting exposed like shamsur rahman , mosharraf hossain etc , otherwise they would have been on bench had pak players played. This is probably not a good idea but I will still ask, what do you Bengal fans think if shanmsur rahman given chance in national side to partner with tamim iqbal ? Btw, I think Nasir hossain is more talented batsman than tamim and shakib and he will soon surpass them .

Posted by ExtremeSpeed on (January 26, 2013, 16:54 GMT)

If our players can successfully take on foreign players of BPL then International matches will be of no problem as well. Its all about CONFIDENCE!!!!! something Bangladesh Cricket lacked before BPL even started.

Posted by ExtremeSpeed on (January 26, 2013, 16:53 GMT)

@Musab - Everyone knows Pakistan players get tired so easily. Instead of worrying about us and wasting your time on a Bangladeshi league focus on your South Africa series.

champions_of_PAKISTAN This BPl is much better than older one.Who has more glamor? Shahzaib Hasan,Khalid Latif,Fawad Alam or Travis Birt,Daniel Harris,Luke Wright?

Posted by Warm_Coffee on (January 26, 2013, 16:07 GMT)

I think our selection panel should be strict on places and even if it means dropping Tamim and Shakib because for once, there are other Bangladeshi players quite a lot now that are performing 'consistently' much better than these 2. Both Tamim and Shakib are having a terrible BPL campaign.

Posted by champions_of_PAKISTAN on (January 26, 2013, 15:02 GMT)

@PickPocket I know you are not fealing well as this time BPL is below average But what does it mean "Time is not so far away when Pakistani player learn from bd cricketer.r" I mean who said we want our players to cry like a child.. I know that u got some good batsmen like TAMIM and Nasir and I respect them but you too should respect others

Posted by Rafelgibt on (January 26, 2013, 14:36 GMT)

@Musab Shakeel Mallick on (January 26 2013, 05:08 AM GMT) You really made my day brother......If your domestic guys are so much better than BAN and IND players then why your guys are not doing well convincingly in the international level with BAN and IND....Moreover, they are keen to play in IPL and BPL......For what???I guess for MONEY or they want to share their infinite TALENTS with BAN and IND players........Time to think........What do you say????

Posted by   on (January 26, 2013, 14:34 GMT)

i hope Bangladeshi batsmen played "well" against quality pacers, because recent Pak "fast" bowlers mohammed irfan and junaid khan will not only bowled em up but also bangladeshi batsmen will suffer many injures including, hit on head, hit on foot ankle etc the world already saw that how indian batsmen were dancing against these 2 out!

Posted by Pickpocket on (January 26, 2013, 9:34 GMT)

@mallick : Don't be crazy guy. Time is not so far away when Pakistani player learn from bd cricketer. Our batsman is ready to hook your bowler Something showing against WI. & future is bright for our cricket team

Posted by M_Rakibul_Islam on (January 26, 2013, 6:28 GMT)

Nafees, Nasir & Mushfiq r really on song in this edition of BPL.

Posted by British_North_America on (January 26, 2013, 6:08 GMT)

Musab Shakeel Mallick Yes it should be fast bowlers as Pakistan have only quality fast bowlers.

Posted by   on (January 26, 2013, 5:08 GMT)

Pakistani dpmestic players are much better than Bangladeshi,Indian players...Its a matter of fact regarding the quality of talented players and "inbreeding" a combination of genuine fast bowlers and spiners..apart from it t/20 is a short format of cricket, so we cant judge a batsman if he played a knock of 100 runs or so the outcome of t/20 game should be the quality of bowlers which lacks in india and bangladesh...both teams should learned from Afghanistan..

WHAT A FULL JAMPACKED STEDIUM.... more dan some countries' international match crowd where is those people who predicted bpl wont get crowd

Posted by TheRisingTeam on (January 25, 2013, 23:32 GMT)

So far, player of the tournament contenders are Nasir Hossain, Shahriar Nafees, Mushfiqur Rahim and Elton Chigumbura.

Good news coming through is that more players especially those from West Indies and Sri Lanka have started to come or are coming soon. The only real shame is Bangladesh franchises not landing Lasith Malinga so our batsman would've gotten a taste of him and ideal preparation for Sri Lanka series against his dangerous fast bowling.

Posted by adnann7 on (January 25, 2013, 19:54 GMT)

it was the best game of BPL 2

Posted by TheRisingTeam on (January 25, 2013, 18:48 GMT)

Nasir Hossain should at least bat no later than 4 preferably at 3 so he can get the strike as often as possible and give his team a few extra runs. Shahriar Nafees despite the amount of criticism he gets from bangla fans has to be part of our tours to Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe and just give him a long run but he should come in at 3-5 positions instead of opening. So sad to see just how badly Imrul Kayes has become now considering he has been part of the national team before and was okay in ODIs for the past 2 years but he has thrown everything away now.

Posted by cricketasia on (January 25, 2013, 18:02 GMT)

I think nasir should come up at the batting order so that RR can make best use of his talent. none can guess top 4 now. Upcoming matches will b more competitive and nail biting. The beauty of BPL2 is flourishing gradually. BPL rokcs....

Posted by visionbangladesh1 on (January 25, 2013, 17:40 GMT)

Ah amazing game. But I think Nasir made a serious strategic mistake at the end. He should have taken more strikes in the last over and score some runs, instead of taking 2 runs with Razzak and then with Sharif. He played an amazing knock, should have tried to win this one. I hope he takes this experience into account for future tournaments.

Posted by   on (January 25, 2013, 17:15 GMT)

Liked how Nasir tried and messed around with Zadran. He really needs more support.

Posted by saifur.raffael on (January 25, 2013, 17:09 GMT)

Great to see a full house from khulna at last..A lots of sportsmanship shown by Khulna Royal Bengals.Nafees rightly committing d truth when Mascaenhas was adjusted out...And at Nasir,he really made me laugh,he is some act...

Posted by Energetic. on (January 25, 2013, 17:02 GMT)

Don't forget Nasir is a very good fielder as well, don't understand why he doesn't bat at 3 or 4.

Posted by salarkharoti on (January 25, 2013, 16:54 GMT)

This was an interesting match to watch and was a big win for khulna. Nafees and shapoor zadran played a key role in this big win for khulna. Khulna should also give chances to samiullah shinwari because he is a good all-rounder, but khulna gave him only one chance.

Posted by real26_03 on (January 25, 2013, 16:30 GMT)

Awesome Match!! BPL is finally warming up..

Posted by   on (January 25, 2013, 16:30 GMT)

Shapoor Zadran and Mohammed Nabi Afghan Bowlers are the LEADING WICKET TAKERS IN BPL 2012

Posted by   on (January 25, 2013, 16:28 GMT)

@Warm_Coffee: If you are talking about Nasir's change of stance , I think he did it intentionally to unsettle the bowler. It was quite fun to watch. If it is something else, well I missed that may be.

Posted by   on (January 25, 2013, 16:21 GMT)

I loved Nasir's antics today! He thrives under pressure. He didn't have any support today. Bangladesh have found a finisher. I am enjoying this season of BPL, even more than the previous one!

The stadium was full!

Posted by Pickpocket on (January 25, 2013, 16:17 GMT)

Nasir hammering 70 off 49 balls with seven fours and two sixes. He is the top to table of highest run getter. He miss two mishit of Zardan over. If he can hit a six one of them may sailed the team.

& today is rocking for Bpl

Posted by   on (January 25, 2013, 16:13 GMT)

What a awesome match..take that All BPL haters..!

Posted by Warm_Coffee on (January 25, 2013, 16:09 GMT)

Nasir is some talent but surprised how arrogant he was towards the end which probably cost his team the game and was totally unnecessary. Another key highlight of the match was that wonderful sportsmanship from Khulna team and captain when Dimitri was caught but more than the allocated fielder were outside the circle resulting in a no ball and decided to allow him to continue to bat.
