Pakistan in Bangladesh ODI Series - 3rd ODI

Bangladesh v Pakistan

Pakistan won by 58 runs

Professor Hafeez is out there to open and Asad Shafiq is his partner today. Shafiul Islam will start off proceedings. A small but lively crowd has turned up to watch. Two slips in place.

Several Pakistan fans are piqued by Gul not being rested, Malik not being dropped, and Khalil not being tried. As long as the team is winning, guys ... Whoa! Mohammad Akram is part of the TV commentary panel. That's a blast from the past. He had a very interesting, skiddy bowling action with both arms rolling through at pace.. I remember him bowling quite well in the 1999 tour of Australia, when Gilchrist and Langer had that mind-blowing partnership.

1.15 pm It is a national holiday in Bangladesh today due to Holy Muharram. Understandably, the press hasn't really flocked to watch this dead rubber. Mohammad Isam lets us know that there is a lot of free space in the media box.

"Hi Nitin got to say thanks for that picture we asked of the team photo after Sri Lanka series with Malik not included ( blocked out by Ijaz Ahmed). Ask and Cricinfo delivers!" My pleasure, Hassan!

Toss: Pakistan win and choose to bat. Their XI does not include Sarfraz, Khalil, Farhat and Cheema are not playing today. Bangladesh bring in Farhad Reza and Alok Kapali, for Rubel Hossain and the utterly out of form Imrul Kayes.

Hello folks. Welcome to the third ODI. Are you praying that Bangladesh doesn't bestow a dreary evening upon us by playing for another draw? I am. Toss and team details coming your way in a moment.

0.1

Shafiul Islam to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, signs of a sightly sluggish pitch. Short of a length at 125 kph, he tries to pull it away but it keeps lower and is bottom edged onto the pad.

0.2

Shafiul Islam to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, another bottom edge. Hint of swing for Shafiul from very wide of off stump. Hafeez reaches across to cut, but the ball doesn't come on and he chops it down.

0.3

Shafiul Islam to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, middles the ball now, stays on the crease and punches firmly to wide mid-off.

0.4

Shafiul Islam to Mohammad Hafeez, OUT, typical slow-pitch dismissal. Hafeez is gone to a soft shot. Short, wide, and painfully sluggish. The ball rises in slow motion, and Hafeez is already through his punch into the covers when it comes through. He lobs it amiably into the covers off the bat toe, and makes his way back. Bangladesh are thrilled.

"Malik should be tried at No.3 tonight. I reckon." No luck Dr. Tam. It is Younis at No. 3. Meanwhile, Shafiul has 50 ODI sticks now. Well bowled.

0.5

Shafiul Islam to Younis Khan, no run, short of a length outside off, Younis plays a trademark steer from beside the line. Can't elude backward point though.

0.6

Shafiul Islam to Younis Khan, no run, maiden to start off. Shafiul shapes it away from back of a length outside off and Younis lets it go.

End of over 1 (wicket maiden) Pakistan 0/1 (RR: 0.00)
Younis Khan    0* (2b)      Shafiul Islam    1-1-0-1
Asad Shafiq    0* (0b)

"Mohammad Akram bowled very well at the Gabba in around 1994/95... but had FOUR straight-forward catches dropped off his bowling. Amir Sohail top scored in both innings with 32 and 99. You can probably guess the first innings was a shocker by Pakistan." I can guess, Giovanni Torre! Shafiq faces now. Reza comes on, over the stumps.

1.1

Farhad Reza to Asad Shafiq, no run, fuller length outside off and moving away, Shafiq meets it off the front foot and plays it into the covers.

1.2

Farhad Reza to Asad Shafiq, no run, good lengths. Very good lengths. Shafiq stays cautiously behind the line, he can't drive or stay back to these, and defends.

1.3

Farhad Reza to Asad Shafiq, no run, and again in the channel. Shafiq gets the front foot across and defends to the off side.

1.4

Farhad Reza to Asad Shafiq, no run, this one angles into the pads, Shafiq turns it around the corner gingerly. Ten balls gone, and no runs.

1.5

Farhad Reza to Asad Shafiq, no run, good stop from Sunny at short cover, he tumbles away to the left to stop a laboured drive. Back of a length and the ball stops on Shafiq as he tries to force it into the off side.

1.6

Farhad Reza to Asad Shafiq, no run, another maiden! Reza delivers full and brisk on off stump, Shafiq stays defensive.

End of over 2 (maiden) Pakistan 0/1 (RR: 0.00)
Asad Shafiq    0* (6b)      Farhad Reza    1-1-0-0
Younis Khan    0* (2b)      Shafiul Islam    1-1-0-1

2.1

Shafiul Islam to Younis Khan, no run, Younis stays on the crease and steers away from his body towards point.

2.2

Shafiul Islam to Younis Khan, no run, huge appeal for lbw but it is turned down. Inside edge saves Younis. Shafiul swings this in at decent pace - mid 130s that - and Younis leans out to drive, and managed to get a thin feather onto the pad.

2.3

Shafiul Islam to Younis Khan, no run, still no runs! Younis stays put on the crease and attempts yet another back foot dab, that doesn't beat point.

2.4

Shafiul Islam to Younis Khan, 1 run, tigerish from the, well, Tigers! Reza pounces away in the covers now and makes a half-stop, but Younis is away with a single after pushing from the crease. Reza did really well there, but is angry at having conceded the single.

2.5

Shafiul Islam to Asad Shafiq, no run, short of driving length to Shafiq who is compulsively forward as he feels for it and defends.

2.6

Shafiul Islam to Asad Shafiq, FOUR, uppish but safe. Expect a lot of those today. It was pitched up, but wasn't exactly a half-volley. A yard or so fuller than the ball that consumed Hafeez, and Shafiq planted the front foot across and smote it through the line. It stopped on him, but there was no stopping his bat swing. Clean and crisp over the covers.

End of over 3 (5 runs) Pakistan 5/1 (RR: 1.66)
Asad Shafiq    4* (8b 1x4)      Shafiul Islam    2-1-5-1
Younis Khan    1* (6b)      Farhad Reza    1-1-0-0

3.1

Farhad Reza to Younis Khan, no run, length ball angles into Younis' pads and he punches solidly to mid-off.

3.2

Farhad Reza to Younis Khan, no run, keeps Younis in the crease with a whippy length ball that doesn't rise. Younis defends back down the track.

3.3

Farhad Reza to Younis Khan, no run, Younis covers the line and defends a delivery that darted in with the angle.

3.4

Farhad Reza to Younis Khan, 2 runs, on the pads now, Younis nudges it with the angle through square leg for a single. Not the first time Reza has bent one too far in, but this has been an impressive start all the same.

3.5

Farhad Reza to Younis Khan, no run, An appeal for run out at the bowler's end goes to the third umpire. It was pitched up to Younis, who drove it back fluently. Reza tried to stop it with the boot, and might have got a touch on it, but Shafiq was alert at the bowler's end. The bat goes back in before the ball crashes into the stumps, and he is safe.

3.6

Farhad Reza to Younis Khan, no run, back of a length on middle stump, Younis stays back and forces it to mid-on.

End of over 4 (2 runs) Pakistan 7/1 (RR: 1.75)
Younis Khan    3* (12b)      Farhad Reza    2-1-2-0
Asad Shafiq    4* (8b 1x4)      Shafiul Islam    2-1-5-1

Ibrahim is shocked, and doesn't rate Tanvir as a seamer. "Today Pakistan is playing with 6 spinners and one fast bowler!"

4.1

Shafiul Islam to Asad Shafiq, no run, short of a length at 131 kph, Shafiq pushes back into the crease and defends towards point.

4.2

Shafiul Islam to Asad Shafiq, 1 run, short ball angles into Shafiq who carefully works it wide of mid-on for a single.

One wide slip for Younis.

4.3

Shafiul Islam to Younis Khan, no run, timing is proving close to impossible on this pitch. Younis is among the best in the game, but he can barely force this back foot punch off the square as Shafiul keeps it short of a length.

4.4

Shafiul Islam to Younis Khan, (no ball) FOUR, It's all happening at the ZACS! No-ball, edge, doesn't carry to the keeper, runs away for four, and a free-hit to follow. Shafiul changes the angle, goes very wide and has in fact cut the return crease. Younis goes at it hard-handed, away from the body and gets a healthy edge, but it drops well short of slip on this pitch. He parries it away and it runs through to the third man fence.

Free-hit time.

4.4

Shafiul Islam to Younis Khan, no run, Younis can't get it away. Full and very wide of off stump, close to being called in fact. Younis opened up the stance and looked to blaze it straight down the ground, but missed.

4.5

Shafiul Islam to Younis Khan, 1 run, short of a length outside off, Younis opens the face to glide it behind point for a single.

4.6

Shafiul Islam to Asad Shafiq, 4 byes, clumsy from the Mighty Atom. Slow offcutter lands wide of off stump and rolls along, but Mushfiqur couldn't get behind it and let it run right through his legs to reach the boundary.

End of over 5 (11 runs) Pakistan 18/1 (RR: 3.60)
Asad Shafiq    5* (11b 1x4)      Shafiul Islam    3-1-12-1
Younis Khan    8* (16b 1x4)      Farhad Reza    2-1-2-0

Razzak is on already. With a slip. Round the stumps.

5.1

Abdur Razzak to Younis Khan, 1 run, angled in from wide of the crease onto middle and leg, Younis works it towards square leg.

5.2

Abdur Razzak to Asad Shafiq, no run, too straight to Shafiq, he dabs it with the angle straight to backward square leg.

5.3

Abdur Razzak to Asad Shafiq, no run, finds midwicket with a whip shot now as Razzak again angles into the pads.

5.4

Abdur Razzak to Asad Shafiq, 1 run, uppish but wide of the bowler. He slows it up and flights it outside off, Shafiq is early on the drive and nearly scoops it back.

5.5

Abdur Razzak to Younis Khan, 1 run, Younis deftly angles the bat face to work a full ball backward of square leg for one.

5.6

Abdur Razzak to Asad Shafiq, no run, the quick armer comes in sharply, Shafiq hurries back in the crease and looks to force it into the covers.

End of over 6 (3 runs) Pakistan 21/1 (RR: 3.50)
Asad Shafiq    6* (15b 1x4)      Abdur Razzak    1-0-3-0
Younis Khan    10* (18b 1x4)      Shafiul Islam    3-1-12-1

"This is the kinda pitch where you miss the good old MoYo. Those lazy cuts and drives are what is needed on this pitch!" says a nostalgic Adil Rehman. I miss MoYo too. Whaddaplaya!

6.1

Shafiul Islam to Younis Khan, no run, pitched up outside off, Younis still can't time the drive as he goes expansive into the covers. it goes straight to the cover fielder.

6.2

Shafiul Islam to Younis Khan, no run, shorter length, but played to the same fielder with a similar lack of timing off the back foot now.

6.3

Shafiul Islam to Younis Khan, FOUR, Shafiul stretches his luck too far. He drags this really short and gives Younis enough room to free his arms, and Younis doesn't need a second invitation. He opens up his stance and carves this over the covers for a boundary.

6.4

Shafiul Islam to Younis Khan, FOUR, short again, and this time too straight. Younis says thank you. This is not a pitch for the drives, but it does sit up nicely when dropped short. Younis had aeons to rock back and drag the pull between mid-on and midwicket.

6.5

Shafiul Islam to Younis Khan, 1 wide, the pressure is on Shafiul now. Wide down the leg side.

"Why is Rahim 'The Mighty Atom', pray tell?" Beats me too, Scott, but it is such a fitting name for the pocket-sized Bangladesh captain.

6.5

Shafiul Islam to Younis Khan, 1 run, Younis hangs back in the crease and produces a bread and butter single through backward point.

Slip disappears, gully in place.

6.6

Shafiul Islam to Asad Shafiq, no run, finishes the over with a full length ball on off stump, Shafiq leans forward to defend resolutely.

End of over 7 (10 runs) Pakistan 31/1 (RR: 4.42)
Asad Shafiq    6* (16b 1x4)      Shafiul Islam    4-1-22-1
Younis Khan    19* (23b 3x4)      Abdur Razzak    1-0-3-0

"This pitch is crying for more slower balls on the stumps," says Charbel, who has got it right.

7.1

Abdur Razzak to Younis Khan, 2 runs, Razzak darts one down the leg now, and Younis helps it along to fine leg for a couple.

7.2

Abdur Razzak to Younis Khan, 2 runs, too short and wide enough for Younis to make room and steer through backward point. Pakistan are methodically breaking the shackles here.

7.3

Abdur Razzak to Younis Khan, no run, tossed up with a hint of drift, Younis leans out and defends with bat and pad close together.

7.4

Abdur Razzak to Younis Khan, 1 run, tossed up to Younis, who reaches the pitch and drives through mid-off for one.

7.5

Abdur Razzak to Asad Shafiq, no run, Shafiq remains careful, stays behind the line and defends.

7.6

Abdur Razzak to Asad Shafiq, 1 run, ooh, Ramiz Raja nearly put the commentators' curse on Shafiq there. The arm ball nearly sneaks through a lazy forward push with bat and pad not close together, but he gets an inside edge that runs past leg stump.

End of over 8 (6 runs) Pakistan 37/1 (RR: 4.62)
Asad Shafiq    7* (18b 1x4)      Abdur Razzak    2-0-9-0
Younis Khan    24* (27b 3x4)      Shafiul Islam    4-1-22-1

Shakib is on now. he averages 15.52 with the ball here.

8.1

Shakib Al Hasan to Asad Shafiq, no run, tossed up outside off, Shafiq defends with soft hands into the off side.

8.2

Shakib Al Hasan to Asad Shafiq, no run, big spin and a stumping appeal goes upstairs. Classic stuff from Shakib, this. He tosses it up invitingly outside off, it curves in and breaks it away. Shafiq is lured into the trap, he goes for the drive and drags his back foot out of the crease. The ball spins past the edge and goes into Rahim's gloves. He seemed to take an extra moment to gather and break the stumps. Shafiq had the chance to push the toe back in, but he might be on the line... The umpire's taking a close look at this. It's a matter of millimetres. Probably microns. He gets the benefit of doubt.

8.3

Shakib Al Hasan to Asad Shafiq, no run, Shafiq stays in the crease this time as Shafiq angles one in and gets it to straighten. Defended down the pitch.

8.4

Shakib Al Hasan to Asad Shafiq, no run, similar ball, defended to the leg side from the crease.

8.5

Shakib Al Hasan to Asad Shafiq, OUT, lovely, lovely bowling! Shafiq is gone, there's no benefit of doubt to be had when the stumps are broken. He's set him up with a series of balls that spun sharply, and now sends down the armer from slightly wide of the crease. Shafiq is lulled into a loose drive off the front foot. The ball drops in front of him and shoots straight through bat-pad gap. All over.

11.1

Abdur Razzak to Younis Khan, OUT, edged and straightforward catch! Younis may not want to see that replay, tossed up outside off and tempting the big drive through the covers, he bends his knee and drives a bit far from the body, the edge was loud and clear

"I couldn't agree more. Sometimes it feels like Rameez Raja says things just for the sake of saying something. He keeps contradicting himself. Shafiul is back on, meanwhile. I get some time to breathe between deliveries. Phew.

"Ah see, Umar's so bored he even found the time to give commentary feedback about Misbah's tactics!" says Ali Murtaza. I hope this isn't the Mumbai spinner Ali Murtaza getting bored and giving feedback on Umar getting bored and giving feedback about Misbah.

29.1

Shafiul Islam to Misbah-ul-Haq, no run, stumps are down at the bowler's end, not for the first time today. Pitched up, full and straight and Misbah ram-rods it back down the track. The bowler can't get a finger on it and it crashes into the furniture.

Pakistan have to forgoe the rest of this powerplay to rebuild the innings.

End of over 39 (4 runs) Pakistan 145/5 (RR: 3.71)
Umar Akmal    42* (73b 2x4 1x6)      Shakib Al Hasan    9-2-18-1
Shahid Afridi    8* (6b 1x4)      Abdur Razzak    9-2-19-3

39.1

Abdur Razzak to Shahid Afridi, 1 leg bye, Afridi sweeps and misses, cry for leg before but it's going down as they take a leg bye

39.2

Abdur Razzak to Umar Akmal, 1 run, single down the ground to long on

39.3

Abdur Razzak to Shahid Afridi, 1 run, Afridi is back and punching to long-on for another run.

39.4

Abdur Razzak to Umar Akmal, no run, pitched up and driven but a good diving save by Alok at extra cover. Good work.

39.5

Abdur Razzak to Umar Akmal, no run, Akmal gets cramped trying to back foot drive ball runs into the leg side.

39.6

Abdur Razzak to Umar Akmal, no run, this time he makes contact but only as far as mid-wicket to end the over

End of over 40 (3 runs) Pakistan 148/5 (RR: 3.70)
Umar Akmal    43* (77b 2x4 1x6)      Abdur Razzak    10-2-21-3
Shahid Afridi    9* (8b 1x4)      Shakib Al Hasan    9-2-18-1

40.1

Elias Sunny to Shahid Afridi, OUT, Afridi goes big into the leg side but makes nowhere near enough contact. A straightforward chance to deep midwicket and easily taken.

Shahid Afridi c Nasir Hossain b Elias Sunny 9 (16m 9b 1x4 0x6) SR: 100.00

Suppose it was quite silly to suggest Afridi would play sensibly.

Well a mini-collapse here by the visitors who were going very well. They've now lost 3 for 15.

40.2

Elias Sunny to Umar Akmal, 1 run, cut by Akmal to deep point

Abdur Rehman the new man. Work to do here for Pakistan

40.3

Elias Sunny to Abdur Rehman, no run, kept low, Rehman played back and did well to keep it out with the toe of the bat

40.4

Elias Sunny to Abdur Rehman, no run, turned to square leg.

40.5

Elias Sunny to Abdur Rehman, no run, turns into the batsman who goes to move it round the corner but misses out.

40.6

End of over 41 (1 run) Pakistan 149/6 (RR: 3.63)
Abdur Rehman    0* (4b)      Elias Sunny    8-0-33-1
Umar Akmal    44* (78b 2x4 1x6)      Abdur Razzak    10-2-21-3

Suddenly just nine overs to go, powerplays done, and Pakistan will be fidgeting nervously in the dressing room. They need a few more. Nasir to bowl again

41.1

Nasir Hossain to Umar Akmal, 2 runs, cut away by Akmal and it's good running and they stride back for the second

41.2

Nasir Hossain to Umar Akmal, no run, defended from off stump.

41.3

Nasir Hossain to Umar Akmal, FOUR, great shot. Excellent use of the crease, not that short but pulled hard wide of mid on for four

That's Akmal's 12th ODI half century. He needs to stay to the end for his side

41.4

Nasir Hossain to Umar Akmal, SIX, and this one is gone way back into the seats. Huge heave over long on

41.5

Nasir Hossain to Umar Akmal, 1 run, now pushed through cover point for a single.

41.6

Nasir Hossain to Abdur Rehman, no run, Rehman defends and the over ends.

End of over 42 (13 runs) Pakistan 162/6 (RR: 3.85)
Abdur Rehman    0* (5b)      Nasir Hossain    3-0-26-0
Umar Akmal    57* (83b 3x4 2x6)      Elias Sunny    8-0-33-1

42.1

Elias Sunny to Umar Akmal, OUT, Akmal gets a bit too keen having gone past 50. Down the track to Sunny, in no position to play an attempted lofted drive. He misses, the keeper whips the bails off and Pakistan lose another.

Umar Akmal st †Mushfiqur Rahim b Elias Sunny 57 (110m 84b 3x4 2x6) SR: 67.85

Really is a blow for Pakistan who now have two fresh batsman towards the end of their innings. Bangladesh are very much in the game.

42.2

Elias Sunny to Sohail Tanvir, no run, left handers don't like the left arm spin of sunny. turning into the new man Tanvir he defends awkwardly

42.3

Elias Sunny to Sohail Tanvir, no run, better defended

42.4

Elias Sunny to Sohail Tanvir, 1 run, worked behind square to get Tanvir away

42.5

Elias Sunny to Abdur Rehman, 1 run, against the spin, worked down the ground for a single

42.6

Elias Sunny to Sohail Tanvir, 1 run, flicked just wide enough of midwicket to allow them to scamper through for a run.

End of over 43 (3 runs) Pakistan 165/7 (RR: 3.83)
Sohail Tanvir    2* (4b)      Elias Sunny    9-0-36-2
Abdur Rehman    1* (6b)      Nasir Hossain    3-0-26-0

Seven overs remain, one wonders what a good score is from here?

43.1

Nasir Hossain to Sohail Tanvir, no run, back foot drive to cover, well fielded.

43.2

Nasir Hossain to Sohail Tanvir, no run, pushed to point, they consider, and then quickly refuse, a single.

43.3

Nasir Hossain to Sohail Tanvir, no run, nudged up to extra cover.

43.4

Nasir Hossain to Sohail Tanvir, FOUR, nicely cut past point and a very welcome boundary for the Pakistanis.

43.5

Nasir Hossain to Sohail Tanvir, no run, again they consider a single into the offside but turned down, and rightly so.

43.6

Nasir Hossain to Sohail Tanvir, 1 run, this time Tanvir opens the face sufficiently to get it in the gap to deep cover.

End of over 44 (5 runs) Pakistan 170/7 (RR: 3.86)
Sohail Tanvir    7* (10b 1x4)      Nasir Hossain    4-0-31-0
Abdur Rehman    1* (6b)      Elias Sunny    9-0-36-2

Mahmudullah into the attack for the first time. Unusual time for a fresh bowler.

44.1

Mahmudullah to Sohail Tanvir, 1 run, a very sharp single to point who was just slightly asleep for me.

44.2

Mahmudullah to Abdur Rehman, 1 run, pushed down the ground

44.3

Mahmudullah to Sohail Tanvir, OUT, Tanvir goes to cut and it's a feather-edge through to the keeper. Rahim stays low and composed to complete a very good catch, he didn't have much time to react.

Sohail Tanvir c †Mushfiqur Rahim b Mahmudullah 8 (7m 12b 1x4 0x6) SR: 66.66

Goodness have the wheels come off this Pakistan innings. Back to Nitin for the closing stages...

Thanks Alex. Will watch out for your golden arm at the next intra-Cricinfo match.

44.4

Mahmudullah to Umar Gul, OUT, another one bites the dust! Mahmudullah is on a hat-trick, as is Rahim, and Pakistan are nine down. That one didn't turn in much as Gul prodded forward and felt for it, it just slid along and took the outside edge. Rahim's day is getting better and better. Mahmudullah is chuffed - no bowling for 44 overs, and then two scalps in four balls.

Umar Gul c †Mushfiqur Rahim b Mahmudullah 0 (2m 1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Shahadat and Razzak are the only Bangladeshis with hat-tricks in ODIs... Here we go. Silly point stands a touch back, and there's a slip too.

44.5

Mahmudullah to Saeed Ajmal, 1 run, no hat-trick! Ajmal leans out laboriously and pushes a nervous single into the off side.

44.6

Mahmudullah to Abdur Rehman, 1 run, Rehman stays back and cuts a short ball through point for one more.

End of over 45 (4 runs) Pakistan 174/9 (RR: 3.86)
Abdur Rehman    3* (8b)      Mahmudullah    1-0-4-2
Saeed Ajmal    1* (1b)      Nasir Hossain    4-0-31-0

I stand corrected. Bangladesh have 2 ODI hat-tricks. Peccavi. Here's Shakib.

45.1

Shakib Al Hasan to Abdur Rehman, 1 run, tossed up from over the stumps, driven against the spin into the covers for one.

45.2

Shakib Al Hasan to Saeed Ajmal, no run, speared in from wide of the stumps, Ajmal leans forward and defends to the off side.

45.3

Shakib Al Hasan to Saeed Ajmal, no run, on the pads as Ajmal leans out and works it to the leg side.

45.4

Shakib Al Hasan to Saeed Ajmal, 2 runs, angled in, Ajmal pre-meditates the sweep and pre-meditates well. He got the front pad out of the way and broomed it down to fine leg for a couple.

45.5

Shakib Al Hasan to Saeed Ajmal, no run, back of a length and straightening, it meets a defiant straight bat.

Slip and short leg.

45.6

Shakib Al Hasan to Saeed Ajmal, no run, again straightening down the line, Ajmal defends off the front foot.

End of over 46 (3 runs) Pakistan 177/9 (RR: 3.84)
Saeed Ajmal    3* (6b)      Shakib Al Hasan    10-2-21-1
Abdur Rehman    4* (9b)      Mahmudullah    1-0-4-2

"I wouldn't say Bangladesh has, so far, outplayed Pakistan. They have outwitted 'em!" Reckon Bangladesh will go for this target, eh Raza? I am praying too.

46.1

Mahmudullah to Abdur Rehman, OUT, all over! The umpire's finger went up in a hurry. Rehman looked completely plumb there. Mahmudullah has rolled out the tail in seven balls. He angled this in from round the stumps, and got it to straighten past the forward prod and thud into the pad low and in front of middle and off.

Abdur Rehman lbw b Mahmudullah 4 (26m 10b 0x4 0x6) SR: 40.00

The last time Bangladesh beat Pakistan, it resulted in them getting Test status. 12 years on, that status is still being questioned - a win today won't harm Bangladesh's cause at all. It won't be easy, mind you.

The innings lasted a shade under three hours, so the innings break will be only 10 minutes long. We will have the longer break after a few overs of Bangladesh batting.

Bangladesh will be thrilled with what they have managed today. Barring the Misbah-Umar stand, Pakistan were a distant second right through the innings. One wonders if Bangladesh let things drift too much in that period. We will only know when the chase begins. Pakistan have almost every kind of bowler in their ranks, and their five-man spin attack will be a handful on this pitch.
