Sri Lanka's tour of Bangladesh has taken a potentially decisive step forward following a meeting between officials of the two boards in Dubai on Thursday. The BCB said it had been told by Sri Lanka that the tour was on and the SLC, while not explicitly confirming it would send a team, said its final decision would depend on the visit, from January 13, of a security delegation to Bangladesh.

The tour had been in doubt because of security issues caused by political instability in Bangladesh and Thursday's meeting, on the sidelines of an ICC conference in Dubai, was scheduled to smooth out differences.

After the meeting, the two sides issued differing statements, though the substance of both suggested that it was a step towards the tour going ahead.

"Sri Lanka Cricket president Jayantha Dharmadasa has confirmed to the BCB that the Sri Lanka tour is on," BCB's media committee chairman, Jalal Yunus, said. "But the SLC's two-member security committee will arrive as per schedule on January 13."

The SLC was more guarded in its response. "We have said we are touring and we have taken the FTP [into consideration], so the assurance is there," SLC president Jayantha Dharmadasa said. "At the present time we can't say we're not going, and that's what I told them [BCB]. We have two people going to assess the situation, because it's changing day by day."

The security committee will comprise former CEO Ajit Jayasekara - an air commodore with the Sri Lanka Air Force - and vice-president Mohan de Silva. Incumbent CEO Ashley de Silva had said the board would make its final decision on the tour by January 15, with the team set to depart to Bangladesh on January 24.

It is expected that the security team will discuss details of the tour, including venues. As reported by ESPNcricinfo, one option for the BCB is to cut down on the venues, including possibly - as a last resort - offering to stage all the matches in Dhaka.

The tour is scheduled to begin on January 27 with two Tests, in Mirpur and Chittagong, followed by two Twenty20s and three ODIs.

I'm a Bangladeshi man. I support Bangladesh. But fact is fact. Bangladesh will lose 2 test and T20 matches. Bangladesh will win hardly an ODI game if they try hard.

I am trying to get my comments in without sucess. It seems that it not be posted if the authors do not agree with my opinion. However, I will not stop posting. Please stop this madness. BD does not have the political climate to hold this series. The safety and future of the cricket is at stake. Postpone or move the series.

@Ketheez Bkw . You misunderstood my comment mate.Plz read my comment and IPSY's one carefully.I was just poking back IPSY's comment on us .I tried to say that,it is just an insane act if anybody call a test playing nation's bowling as school or collegeboy bowling.Srilanka's bowling attack is better than ours, no doubt. No question to hurt you guys.

One crucial deficiency in Sangakara's batting record is the number of centuries he scored outside the subcontinent. Even including the one against ZIM in 2004 (anybody remember the Test results of ZIM in 2004-05?), Sangakara has less than ten centuries outside the subcontinent. Tendulkar, Dravid, Lara and Kallis have more uniform distribution of their centuries (Ponting lags behind in the subcontinent). Sangakara has played some gems outside the subcontinent (e.g. 192 in AUS), but they are too few compared to the other contemporary batting greats. In a way, Jayawardena suffers from the same problem. Therefore, despite his many double tons and bloated average in matches played in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India and UAE, Sangakara still has much to prove to be nominated as the second-best after Bradman.

as a srilankan fan, i totally agree with mainul's comment that we are very polite fans. but when u say school attack, thats completly wrong bro. maybe at that time ur batsmans are doing well. dont put your team down by saying srilankan collagr attack. cheerzz

SL is in Great Danger if they tour BD,i'll pray for SL players to come back home safe

@ PEPSY.School boy bowling? Ha, ha.SL could't win ODI series last time on Srilankan soil against us with 1-1 scoreline. Can you remember? We scored 638 in first innings of first test against srilankan attack. But i wont call Srilankan attack school or college attack, as i am not an insane.I think you are an Indian in disguise of a Srilankan. I know Srilankan fans well. They are by nature very polite and intelligent cricket fan. Please post my comment espncricinfo...

@IPSY Sanga already has an average more than Kallis. Sanga's avarage is the highest amoung elite club of more than 10,000 runs. Sanga is the fastest to 8000, 9000 and jointly fastest to 10,000 with Sachin and Lara. He has enough time to become the fastest to 11000 test runs also. Sanga simply the best test batsman in the world after Sir Bradman.

Posted by IPSY on (January 10, 2014, 3:06 GMT)

Sangakkara has a chance to increase his average above Kallis, the greatest cricketer of the modern era. Hence, Sangakkara has all right to do as his predecessor WHO LOVED SCHOOL BOY BOWLING and take full advantage of the Bangladeshi school boys, who should be grown up by now!

Welcome Sri Lanka!!! Cricket is always welcome in Bangladesh. I, personally, am not thinking about any result for Bangladesh. I am only thinking that this series's success is, for us, to organize successfully the series and let other's know- how passionate BD is, particularly for CRICKET. If SL visit's BD, if we can welcome and provide our best hospitality we will win, doesn't matter any negative result in the Match's for BD. These series is for our pride as Cricket nation, as some of our cricket fan arise question for BD cricket, as some r trying to pointing out something which is injustice for BD like cricket fans................ Because we love cricket, we eat cricket, we sleep cricket, we dream cricket... Best of luck to everybody who r related to finalize this series.

Posted by Lakpj on (January 9, 2014, 10:42 GMT)

SLC had made decision which I think is risky but a positive decision and which I don't think any other board would had taken given the current situation. It is now up to BCB and the people of the Bangladesh to prove it right. if some smallest incident takes place during this tour the Asia cup and T20 WC in Bangladesh will just be history.

Posted by   on (January 9, 2014, 10:38 GMT)

Sri Lanka team should date their own security personals with them, we don't want to see another Lahore incident
