Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batsman Prasanna Jayawardene missed the first Test against Bangladesh as he flew home for family reasons. Jayawardene had been set to play the match before receiving distressing news from home. It appears unlikely he will be available for the second Test, which begins on February 4, though no firm decision on that has yet been made.

Jayawardene had only returned to the Test side after a year-long layoff during the series against Pakistan in the UAE this month. He had been effective with the bat and excellent behind the stumps, reasserting his value to the team even though it carried two other wicketkeeper-batsmen in the XI, in Kumar Sangakkara and Dinesh Chandimal.

Chandimal takes the gloves in Jayawardene's absence, and left-hand batsman Kithuruwan Vithanage replaces him in the eleven.

Sangakkara kept wickets in his first and second year for Trinity 1st eleven team, but he gave up keeping and took bowling ( medium fast ) in his last year. Actually , Sanga was a very poor wicket keeper at the begging , but he worked hard and improved to be one of the best wicket keepers in the world, respect .

Kaushal Silva is a keeper. Kusal Perera is a keeper. Chandimal is a keeper. Sangakkara and Vithanage are stop gap keepers.

Kaushal was the St. Thomas' wk for around 3-4 years and U19 captain. (I think he came to Mount Lavinia from STC Bandarawela.) Kusal Perera was also Royal wk for 3 years and U19 captain. (I remember Kithruwan also played alongside Kusal for Royal at age group). Vithanage was not a keeper at school level but a brilliant close catcher. Chandimal was Ananda wk for 3-4 years and U19 captain. Sanga I cannot remember keeping during school days at Trinity. I think he took up keeping for NCC. Anyway he came into the National side at a later age. Just like Kaushal :)

Stats shows Kaushal Silva is also a Wicket keper , But have to agree with Udendra Finally Chandimal has a role to play in SL team

People haven't forgotten Sanga as a keeper. The decision was made in 2004 for Sanga to concentrate on his batting. The stats speak volumes. Even if you've kept in 2 day games for school, you will realise how tired not just body, but your eyes get, while keeping for so long. It really affects your batting. Chandimal can keep as he only bats in the middle order (giving him time to rest), while Kaushal and Sanga need to bat at the top of the innings.

deepest sympathies to Prasanna and family at this tuff moment . he ll return to team in England tour where a specialist keeper is most wanted when bowl is in swing and bounce . As he is still 34 , SL can have his services for good 3-4 years and hope Chandimal will come good as a keeper by then .For that Chandi should start keeping in ODI s & T20 s now leaving Sanga to be a pure batsman in short formats . Not to forget K Silva , K Perera , Kitruwan Vithanage whom can keep anyday .

My deepest sympathies & heartfelt condolences to Prasanna for his loss. My prayers are with him & his family. I was really expecting to see him perform in this series before we go to England, but such an unfortunate incident. I hope you take your time, rest your mind, & come back prepared to fight against the English.

yes,we've sangakkara but we expect a lot from sangakkara as a batsmen. It is'nt a problem. Our squad have lot's of wicket keepers available. My deepest sympathy to prasanna's father. He'll rest in peace

At last Chandimal has something to do in the team. Hope he doesn't spill any!
