Bangladesh will be without their captain Mushfiqur Rahim in the two-match Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka starting on February 12. Rahim suffered a small fracture on his left little finger, and although he will bat in the Chittagong Test, the decision was taken to rest him as they head into a prolonged season.

"We have decided not to consider him for the T20s after advice from the physio," chief selector Faruque Ahmed said. "We don't want to take any risk in the long run because we have plenty of cricket coming up. But if you ask me whether or not he will bat tomorrow, I would say that we will try through an injection or any other arrangement to give him a temporary relief and make him bat. But we believe that if he gets the rest it will help to ensure his service for the two big events in the future."

Mithun Ali is his replacement as the wicketkeeper but a captain has not yet been named. Mithun had been in Bangladesh's World T20 squad in 2009, making this his second inclusion in the senior team. Sabbir Rahman and Arafat Sunny have earned their first call-ups, while Shakib Al Hasan and Farhad Reza have also returned to the side.

Last year, Farhad took 15 wickets at an average of 35.26 but his batting form has been quite poor, averaging just 12.36 in 20 matches. However, his one-day and first-class form has been quite good in the 2013-14 season, and that has kept him in the squad in place of Ziaur Rahman who hasn't done well in T20s recently.

Sabbir has had an impressive 2013, averaging 41.76 in 25 matches, hitting six half-ceturies at a strike-rate of 133.70. He had been earmarked for a long time as a shorter version specialist and this seems to be the best time to blood him in the Bangladesh team.

Mithun has scored 346 runs in 16 T20 matches and is now considered the next wicketkeeper of the rank. Left-arm spinner Sunny was picked ahead of Enamul Haque jnr who had taken 26 wickets, the highest among spinners last year.

Faruque however said that both Sabbir and Sunny are considered for their good showings in the recent past. "We have given new players chances in this squad, such as Sabbir Rahman and Arafat Sunny, thinking of the upcoming World T20s," he said. "Both have proved their ability in the domestic level. Now we want to see how good they are in the international level."

Left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak is out due to a left hamstring injury while Naeem Islam, Soumya Sarkar and Ziaur Rahman have also been ignored.

Squad: Tamim Iqbal, Anamul Haque, Shamsur Rahman, Mithun Ali, Mominul Hoque, Shakib Al Hasan, Nasir Hossain, Shabbir Rahman, Mahmudullah, Sohag Gazi, Arafat Sunny, Farhad Reza, Masrafe Bin Mortaza, Rubel Hossain, Al-Amin Hossain

BD ELEVEN: Anamul, tamim, shamsur, mominul/mithun, shakib, sabbir, nasir, shohag, mahmudullah/sunny, mashrafee,/ al amin/ rubel/farhad.

Bd should go with 7 pure batsman, because they loose wickets fast, we saw what happened with newzealand in 2013. Yeah monimul is not a good hitter of sixes, infect its mushi's place and why mithun ? when we have anamul. His performance is home isn't so great too. Plus anamul and mominul are the experienced ones. Mahmudullh because he bowls in this pitch and he can take help from his batting. Bowling i wouldn't suggest more than 2 pacers because our spinners have always done better in bowling, plus that way we loose a batsman, and batting plays more importance in t20. Even the best bowling can be taken apart in a t20 match. Its more a batman's game.

If we choose a team like this, we get 7 batsman and yet 5 bowlers who can ball 5 full overs and 3 to 4 part time bowlers with around 2 bowling all rounders.

Miss You Mushi.....................................GREAT PLAYER OUR CRICKET TEAM ...

Posted by musfiqur.mishu on (February 9, 2014, 11:51 GMT)

My XI For First T20 is :- 1.Tamim, 2. Anamul (wk), 3. Shakib, 4. Sabbir, 5.Nasir,6.Mahmudullah,7.Fahard Reza,8.Gazi,9. Masrafe (c) ,10. Arafat Sunny, 11. Rubel

Anamul instead of shamsur because he had a very good t20 tournament last December and he was the highest runners of the tournament. He is a good wicketkeeper Batsman for t20 and odi. Shamsur don't performance in t20 is not so good. Sabbir instead of mominul and Sabbir also have good t20 tournament Last December and mominul is good for test but not good for t20 and odi. Farhad Reza could be a good all round with bat and medium pacr he could use as 3rd seamer. Sunny is instead of Razzak due to his injury. Rubel instead of Al-amin.

My Playing 11 would be: Tamim, Shamsur, Shabbir, Mominul, Shakib, Nasir, Mithun, Mahmudullah, Mashrafe, Al-Amin and Sunny. If the pitch favours fast bowlers, we can replace Reza with Sunny. If Mithun does well in shorter formats, we can use Mushy as a specialist batsman. Our short version team is definitely more competitive than Test team. We need at least two batsmen who can play long innings without losing their head to support Mominul, Nasir and Mushy. Tamim and Shakib are hot heads who consistently throw away their wickets at crucial times. Go Tigers!

My best 11 would be-Anamul Haque, Shamsur Rahman, Mithun Ali, Shakib Al Hasan, Nasir Hossain, Shabbir Rahman,Farhad Reza,Mahmudullah, Masrafe Bin Mortaza, Arafat Sunny, Al-Amin Hossain....Sorry but this time Tamim must need a break for sure...

In my view, best BD XI for Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka T20 Series:

1.Masrafe Bin Mortaza, (C) 2.Tamim Iqbal (VC) 3.Anamul Haque, 4.Shamsur Rahman, 5.Mithun Ali, 6.Mominul Hoque, 7.Shakib Al Hasan, 8.Nasir Hossain, 9.Mahmudullah, 10.Sohag Gazi, 11.Rubel Hossain,

Posted by   on (February 8, 2014, 10:51 GMT)

All I want in the team is Nazmul Hossain the pacer! Great swing and follow-through! Perfect pacer! Better than this Rubel and Robiul

we miss mushfiqur rahim because u r a good captain

Posted by   on (February 7, 2014, 21:30 GMT)

My 11 with mashrafee as the captain and Nasir as the VC: Tamim, Shamsur, Anamul, sabbir, Shakib, Nasir, Zia, Mithun ALi, Gazi, Mashrafee, Al-amin. Bowlers: Shakib, Gazi, Zia, Mashrafee, Al-amin. 3 pacers and 2 spinners. Part timers: Sabbir, Nasir.

Up to mashrafee all of them can hit the ball good. Please BCB no mominul, Mahmudulah, and rubel as they are really weak at t20s. Mominul and Mahmudullah do not move their arms freely thus they are not suitable for t20s. Rubel is tooooooo expensive.

When pitches are difficult or under prepare then the chances of winning for weak teams increase specially if it is a test match. Recent Zimbabwe win against Pakistan showed that, How their ex cricketers and think tank help them to win that match, As we have very short tradition of test cricket so we should appoint some test cricket pundit for greater test match result. We have enough good spinners to take wickets in spinning track but problem lies with our batsman patience that's why we become defensive and just prepare flat low pitch. If we want to grow a test nation both at home and future away series then we should prepare difficult pitches in domestic circuits if it is a lower scoring match. that's how our batsman become more mature and be selective about their choice of shots in particular situations. before each series we should make a positive attitude and strategy against opponent teams and analyze their weakness and how to exploit that.Winning a test match is not that easy

Posted by   on (February 7, 2014, 6:36 GMT)

Our First class cricket must play under difficult bounce and spin pitches with competitive manner. That can help our batsman to cop with difficult condition and help them not to play shots in some particular situations. If our cricketers continue to play in those conditions under 2/3 season , they must be more mature and moreover it can help our young star. Otherwise same fashion when youngsters will start to play after getting out they will say that it is their natural way of batting like tamim, sakib, nasir is saying now. some quality foreign players should include in domestic first class teams to make the competition more competitive. Our think tank like ex cricketers, officials , coaches and selectors also should come forward and help our players . As a test nation we are young so i think we need help from international test performer or pundits for restructure first class cricket and plan a proper strategy for the next 5 years for winning a test against big 8.

Nasir can be a great captain. I can see that. Opening the innings is very difficult and Tamim is very important for BD team for a good start. It would be good if selectors ease off pressure from Tamim and Shakib shoulder.

Posted by   on (February 6, 2014, 11:52 GMT)

I think selectors should not give any extra duty to Tamim and Shakib. They are our top players. They need to perform constantly. As it did not work before so i am worried how much Tamim can do as a leader.

Posted by   on (February 6, 2014, 7:39 GMT)

Its appreciate to Bcb that Mithun ali, shabbir, and Farad get Get chance due to there outstanding performance but we will be happy if Nurul Hasan and Taijul Islam Also included, both of guy do excellent performer now a days.Hopefully they should get change in ODI.besides Tamim is a good player no doubt but unfortunately he is out of form.So he should be dropped.and Bcb should find one first bowler.I thing alaudding Babu should be prepare for next.

Posted by 11_Warrior on (February 6, 2014, 7:35 GMT)

Sakib will lead the side, there is no second thought about it.

Posted by CricTimer on (February 6, 2014, 2:22 GMT)

Whoever the seam bowlers will be selected for the T20 must keep the ball low and fuller. That will be the trick to avoid boundaries. Every short pitched ball (mostly gifted out by Rubel, Murtaza and Robiul from past experience) will be punished. My request to BCB is to bring new boys who balls impressively quick and fuller to the Yorker length.

shakib not a good captain at all,

Posted by asiacricket1234 on (February 6, 2014, 0:51 GMT)

Wait is that mean Tamim gonna lead us??? That guy cant lead a team in domestic cricket properly how is he gonna lead the national team? Does it also mean Mushi is not batting or keeping in this test? Man we are really in big trouble

Posted by   on (February 5, 2014, 22:21 GMT)

Can we please pick a captain who knows the game? Yesterday Tamim took the title yet did nothing to follow through. He should have stopped the singles from happening by bringing the field up so sanga would get a chance to shield the tail. Bowlers could have cleared the innings with another 100 runs to spare. Mashrafe Mortaza is clearly the most experienced and best option for captain with Mahmudullah deserving to be his deputy. Tamim should really be at end of his rope by now, he's not make runs, and fielding properly and doesn't bowl. What is his position on the team exactly? Drop him and take his pride down a notch. He might even perform to prove his worth like the last time he was dropped. Oh wait no he had his dear uncle to bail him out. Playing eleven Tamim, Shamsur, Anamul(wk), Mominul, Shakib, Nasir, Mahmudullah(vc), Gazi, Mashrafe Mortaza (ct) , Al-amin Hossain, (debutant)

Posted by Abirs on (February 5, 2014, 22:03 GMT)

As a player alhumdulillah shakib good, but as a captain does not good

Posted by   on (February 5, 2014, 21:09 GMT)

Along with his batting, Mushfiqur's captaincy would be missed. Loss of Razzaq would be next to impossible to compensate. While it was wrong to choose him in the test team, he is number 10 in ICC T20 bowler's ranking (just behind Shakib who is at 9)! No other Bangladesh bowler is in the top 50 (Mashrafee being next at 52!) Let's hope the newcomer's come good!

Posted by   on (February 5, 2014, 20:22 GMT)

My playing 11 :1 tamim.2 shamsur.3 anamul w.k.4sakib v.c.5 nasir .6sabbir.7 mahmudullah captain 8 sohag gazi 9 mortaza 10 sunny 11 rubel /al amin/ reza These team is the best team for t20 if they having these team no team can even think of winning against Bangladesh

Posted by   on (February 5, 2014, 20:13 GMT)

Anamul haque can be the w.k and can at the third position for batting

Posted by M_Rakibul_Islam on (February 5, 2014, 17:33 GMT)

Shakib shouldn't b a captain right now. Though he's the best T20 cricketer 4m Bangladesh but he need to b pressure-less to perform well. It can b Mashrafi. He has captained in Test & ODIs, now it's time for T20 captaincy.

Posted by Nasim_Ahmed on (February 5, 2014, 17:01 GMT)

1. Anamul 2. Shamsur 3. Mominul 4. Shakib (vice-capt.) 5. Mithun (WK) 6. Nasir (capt.) 7. Shabbir 8. Arafat 9. Farhad 10. Mashrafe 11. Al-Amin

Farhad could have been played in the tests - that would boost his confidence... Tamim's lack of concentration and poor performance in these tests - simply too disappointing...

Posted by Bipool on (February 5, 2014, 16:20 GMT)

I think, Mashrafi will act as captaincy for 2 games. He is most senior and under his captaincy Dhaka gladiotor champions 2 times

Posted by P.BIPULKUMAR on (February 5, 2014, 16:02 GMT)

TAIJUL ISLAM should have get a chance instead of oldy Arafat sunny . NEVETHELESS all new guys should geet chance in playing XI ...

Posted by   on (February 5, 2014, 15:51 GMT)

Who is captain and vice captain?

Posted by   on (February 5, 2014, 15:36 GMT)

I think Shakib could be made the captain. Since he has experience and Nasir the Vice Captain, since he is a smart guy and is likely to be a future captain. So either of them. It'll be a good opportunity for Mithun to show his skills. Anyway get well soon cap'n, we'll be needing u for the Wcup and Asia cup .

Posted by SaroarIslam on (February 5, 2014, 15:34 GMT)

It's seems bad that we miss our captain. .but for long run it is good. .because we don't want to lose our captain service in upcoming asia cup and t20 world cup. .get well soon mushi. .best of the luck for rest

Posted by   on (February 5, 2014, 15:27 GMT)

Lots of new faces in the team. They seem to be picked on 'performance basis' rather than 'experience basis'. For captaincy Shakib, Mashrafee or Mahmudullah seem to be suitable candidates. The problem with the latter two are they go in and out of the team quite often. Again, the selectors might try to avoid Shakib as captain as it may hamper his performance. However, The results of the T20s will mostly depend on this new captain and how he fits the new players in their places in the team.
