Isam: BCB to blame for Tamim resignation

Tamim Iqbal has resigned as Bangladesh's vice-captain to focus more on his batting. He informed the BCB through a letter to Akram Khan, the chairman of the cricket operations committee.

The board had appointed Tamim as Mushfiqur Rahim's deputy for the series against Sri Lanka four days before the Dhaka Test that started on January 27. He was given the same role on Saturday when Mashrafe Mortaza was named captain for the two-match Twenty20 series after Mushfiqur was rested due to a finger injury.

"With such a long season coming up, I think it is in the best interest of the team that I focus on my batting," Tamim said. "The role of the vice-captain has certain off-field duties, although it is not that visible on the field."

Nazmul Hassan, the BCB president, said that Mashrafe's experience as an international captain convinced him to give the bowler the interim job.

"Tamim Iqbal is a very important member of the national cricket team and he is a future leader," Hassan said. "More than anything, it is his batting ability which is most significant to the fortunes of Bangladesh cricket. With a busy international season underway we felt it would be best not to burden him with the additional responsibility of captaincy in the Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka so that he could fully concentrate on his batting.

"Masrafe Bin Mortaza is the team's most senior cricketer and an inspirational figure. We are confident that he will lead the side competently with his vast experience."

The two-match Test series against Sri Lanka has been Tamim's second-worst in terms of runs scored. He made 48 runs in the series, getting out playing a hook shot and a hoick in the two innings in Mirpur.

There was expectation that he would bounce back in his hometown Chittagong but he missed a delivery that kept low in the first innings, and was bowled through the gate in the second innings.

Thank you legalbeagle, For someone who does not like BD team and believes they should not be playing cricket, you sure show up plenty in our posts. You admire us don't you, admit it. You can't get enough of us. :) I agree with the board. Tamim is not captaincy material. He is immature and needs to focus on not throwing his wicket away. Success two years ago has gotten to his head and he has been underperforming lately. In terms of captainship temperament, Mushy, Mashrafe and Mahmudullah comes to mind (even though Mahmudullah's place is at times questioned). Nasir can be groomed for the future. Go Tigers!

It was a great decision not to make Tamim captain. I think he is probably hyurt by that decision. But i think he has not the substance in him to be a captain. But he is a good batsman, just having a off form. I think he will recover soon. The fans who are bashing Tamim as a batsmen is very immature. They dont have enough wisdom to understand a player's ability.

Tamim is not even over-rated. There is no rating on him cause he is ordinary. He should be removed from the pathetic team also.

It's way to important to perform in the game than the captaincy. Look at Shakib, if you perform regularly, you will be respected ......... who cares a captain who lacks performance !

He shouldn't even be in the T20 team. he rarely perform and when he does he keep his strike rate around 100. In test he cant stop playing hasty shot and get out and in T20 he plays like it is ODI.

Tamim needs a short break in all sorts of cricket. bcoz he does not shows any good performence in recent some match

Tamim felt insulted after not being elected as captain of T20 team since Mushfique is injured. After Mortaza got elected as T20 captain, he just don't want to be a dummy vice-captain.

T20 team should be like this Tamim,Shamsur,Anamul,Mominul,Sakeeb,Nasir,Riad,Sabbir,Mashrafee,Al-Amin

Tamim needs persisting as we all know he is a great batsman but nowadays players are improving and no - one guaranteed a place! !

Thomas Cherian, how can he be another Ashraful in the making when he already surpassed Ashraful in all department, years ago? If you have something bad to say at least back it up with facts and also do it in the RIGHT place. This has nothing to do with anything you said.
