Big picture

Two days before the second ODI, Sri Lanka's new coach Paul Farbrace said Thisara Perera would not have to rescue the team again in the near future. In one short sentence, Farbrace backed his batting line-up, which had slipped to 67 for 8 in the first ODI.

Bangladesh can be sure too that Sri Lanka will not give them two golden opportunities in the same game again. Once Mushfiqur Rahim did not prevent the visitors' recovery, Perera and Sachithra Senanayake helped Sri Lanka reach 180. Bangladesh, however, were 114 for 2 inside 20 overs to the delight of the crowd, but lost eight wickets for 53 runs. Clumsy running and poor shot selection made them go 0-1 down in the series.

Bangladesh will want senior players like Mushfiqur and Shakib Al Hasan to take more batting responsibility, particularly if Tamim Iqbal continues to remain sidelined with a neck strain. The top half of Sri Lanka's order also has much work to do to find form ahead of the Asia Cup.

Victory in Mirpur will complete Sri Lanka's set of trophies in all formats on this tour; Bangladesh will be desperate to keep their only chance of silverware alive.

Form guide

(Completed matches, most recent first)

Bangladesh LWWWL
Sri Lanka WWLLW

Watch out for

Shamsur Rahman impressed during his 62 in the first ODI. He played an array of back-foot shots - square drives, square cuts, an upper cut and a swivel pull - to score his second fifty. His needless run-out, however, started the Bangladesh collapse so there should a little more care to his innings in the second game.

Angelo Mathews called the first ODI victory a dream come true. He didn't bat like a dream but claimed three wickets with his medium pace. He was steady, and ensured Sri Lanka remained disciplined with the ball and in the field. Mathews will be expected to make more all-round contributions.

Team news

Mashrafe Mortaza and Tamim Iqbal have still not recovered from their injuries, so their selection will be last-minute decisions. Al-Amin Hossain could make way for Mashrafe while Mahmudullah's two-ball duck will be counted against him. Naeem Islam stands a chance to get into the playing XI.

Bangladesh (possible) 1 Shamsur Rahman, 2 Anamul Haque (wk), 3 Mominul Haque, 4 Mushfiqur Rahim (capt), 5 Shakib Al Hasan, 6 Nasir Hossain, 7 Mahmudullah/Naeem Islam, 8 Sohag Gazi, 9 Arafat Sunny, 10 Al-Amin Hossain/Mashrafe Mortaza, 11 Rubel Hossain

Sri Lanka will be forced to make one change to their eleven from the first ODI after Nuwan Kulasekara was rueld out with a groin injury two days ahead of the second game. The batting line-up requires another shot at the Bangladesh attack before anyone is jettisoned.

Sri Lanka (possible) 1 Kusal Perera, 2 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 3 Kumar Sangakkara (wk), 4 Dinesh Chandimal, 5 Ashan Priyanjan, 6 Kithuruwan Vithanage, 7 Angelo Mathews (capt), 8 Thisara Perera, 9 Suranga Lakmal, 10 Sachithra Senanayake, 11 Lasith Malinga.

Pitch and conditions

Overnight rain and overcast conditions spiced up the Mirpur pitch a little, but it has been dry and sunny in the region since the first ODI. The surface is likely to be slow and low.

Stats and trivia

  • Naeem Islam was Bangladesh's highest scorer in their previous ODI series - 163 runs at 54.33 against New Zealand - but he was not selected for the first ODI against Sri Lanka.
  • Thisara Perera's unbeaten 80 was the third highest score at No. 9 in ODIs, after Andre Russell's 92 and Darren Sammy's 84.

"I don't think Bangladesh lack belief. It is just about winning a close game. It is amazing how your team flies from there. They will be off and running from there."
Sri Lanka coach Paul Farbrace

@ pre match interview Mushi said "we almost win last three games" does that mean they won last three matches too early and at the end it was SL.

Posted by Iceman29 on (February 20, 2014, 7:08 GMT)

@ Fast_Track_Bully: is that comment really necessary when our team is struggling to win a single match in overseas....its because of a few fans comments like this which really tarnishes and making a bad impression on our whole country's culture and image...

Posted by Fast_Track_Bully on (February 20, 2014, 6:30 GMT)

SL yet again proved as a pathetic team even at sub-continent. I am not surprised if they got same result as the last Aisia cup!

Guys My Bangladesh team XI 1.Tamim 2.Shamsur 3.Anamul 4.Mominul 5.Mushfiq 6.Shakib 7.Naeem 8.Shohag. 9.Mashrafe 10.Arafat. 11.Al amin ..!!

SL have some very good all rounders especially Thisara Perera...SL is lucky to have him in the team...wish Ind team have an allrounder like him...good luck SL and BD...BD is showing great fight and resilience its very refreshing to see that...

Posted by   on (February 20, 2014, 5:55 GMT)

SL should strengh their bowling 2day. Drop dilshan and give Chandi a chance to open the batting. He is an opening batsman naturally. Kushal played brilliantly.... it is happy to see mathews attacking captency which we missed in the pakesthan series..

Posted by Rawanaa on (February 20, 2014, 5:51 GMT)

what happened with bangladeshi fans is that they are blurting before every single match... its ok when they are playing with WI or NZ but when it comes to Srilankan context it always makes funny of them and are humiliated after matches because we are fighting till the last ball or last wicket and if we lose we dont let our opponent for easy wins... thats why we are in top level... bangladesh needs to be more consistence and then only they can stand with pompous... bangladesh has talent and improvement so credit goes for that.... and Ather Ali needs to be restraint..

Posted by   on (February 20, 2014, 5:46 GMT)

Bangladesh is more than capable of to fight back.they should only try to do their basic things right and share their responsibility. it is badly needed for Bangladesh cause ASia cup is just knocking at the door

Posted by Hikka_Machang on (February 20, 2014, 5:40 GMT)

Why these people criticize chandimal this much? i agree that he is out of form these days comparing to his previous performances, but the people who have good knowledge about cricket would know his value, yes he is not preforming well in sub - continent, he has to adjust that quickly to become a complete cricketer, we all knew how important him when we playing outside sub - continent.dropping him is not the answer, I still believe that he got brilliant talent & he should play for sri lanka. (Come on chandi, we need you badly for next world cup)

Posted by humi_cric on (February 20, 2014, 5:26 GMT)

hahahahaha, this means I am not the only one who turn-off the volume when Athar Ali Khan comes into the commentary box, irritating. For me, Danny Morrison (from NZ) is the best commentator in the current lot; unbiased, full of fun and energy. Michael Slater also very good but I love Danny commentary. I think BD improved a lot but still a long way to go. If I was the Coach, I would fine 50% of the match fee to Sohag Gazi for the shot he played in that situation (when a proper batsman who is also the captain of the side is on the non striker end). These small mistakes cost you the match. Don't want to comment on the dropped catches.

Posted by   on (February 20, 2014, 5:02 GMT)

Apart from the 1st test all most all other games been a tough call for visitors. We have to accept that the BNG team has improved their cricket during past years. But its green light for SL as their juniors performing better when the seniors failing. It shows SL disaster recovery is far better than any other yet they got some areas to improve as a team. But guys stop acting like Indian Cricket Fans. Love your team and also have respect for other teams too.

Posted by   on (February 20, 2014, 4:47 GMT)

Bangladesh lost all the games in T20 and 1st ODI because of strategy. The team had lots of good players coming up. But they are not used properly. Anamul needs to calm down. I completely hate this guys attitude. He thinks he is sachin after playing a successful cover drive the way he holds his bat till the ball reaches boundary. I think rubel hossain needs to be axed permanantly from the side. yes he did won few games for us but lately he is the reason why we lost to WI and some other series. Zia is a good option to replace him. He is a good bowler and will come handy in the World Cup in australlia. Tamim is almost done. Got everything he needed for his life and even got married now so dont need to play cricket anymore. Body language socks. team should be like this: Tamim-Shamsur-Anamul-Mominul-Mushfiq-Shakib-Nasir-Zia-Mashrafee-Sunny-Razzaq. But few players in the team is big show off. Need to put their head down and need to be more positive to win.

Not surprised that SL cancelled SA tour recently! How can I talk about abilities which SL team do not have. Wait for Asia cup, where SL will be humiliated yet again like it was in the last time (0-3) by all other teams! For those 108 days Indians were playing abroad fast and bouncy pitches. not at home or flat pitches like what SL doing. And still not able to win convincingly! All last ball flukes!

I see a lot of complains about the two bangladeshi commentators by Sri lankan fans. Here's my view as Bangladeshi, I hate their commentary too! They drive me to mute the game several times. NO ONE wants to listen to a biased commentary. The loud over-excited voice of Athar and annoying voice tone and sense of humor of Shamim is very disturbing. I feel so relieved when Brian or other sri lankan commentators come to do commentary.

Posted by Taaro on (February 20, 2014, 4:14 GMT)

To all Sri Lankan and BD fans, what i learn from this is, as brothers we really respect two countries... the person who call as Herath is no matured and deffinitly not a Sri Lankan. there are two different religion in in this two countries, but past and present shows that we are so unity and we share out thought as brothers.don't mislead from people who try to show as Sri Lankan. BD has prove that they have change the Cricket by winning with big guns. so they are in good place. and what they need is time, to find a good line up. hope one day they will become a leading team in Cricket Arena. God Bless you.

Good luck, Bangladesh!

Posted by Dr.Lakson on (February 20, 2014, 3:28 GMT)

Bangladesh has improved a lot compared to what they were and have found some very talented cricketers. Seems to me that they are bit too overconfident at times and loose very good opportunities. No need to even suggest that they are not up to international standard. Oh boy the commentary is poor and the production is also very amateurish where most of the actions is missed by the camera crew or the operators!. What can you expect for a series with low viewer rating.... I do fear for the future of watching good cricket from home unless we get to play the three BIG Bullies ........

sorry BD..this time also LIONS will roar n will get the trophy

Posted by   on (February 20, 2014, 3:00 GMT)

Why Ryad in playing XI even why he in Squad ? Who choose him ? What is his duty ? He seems just like a guest

Posted by   on (February 20, 2014, 2:50 GMT)

local umpiring was not up to the standards. When BD batting, benifit of the doubt went for the batsman. That was correct. But it was other way while SL was batting. Kusal Perera was given out for a delivery which was well down the leg side. It is time decide on using neutral umpires.

Posted by   on (February 20, 2014, 2:42 GMT)

There are lot of talented cricketers in the BD side. But no experience. They will be a huge threat near future with gaining experience.

Posted by android_user on (February 20, 2014, 2:42 GMT)

what matters is winning the game.and applying pressure on thw doea not matter what the team we are playing with. Bangladesh had a very goos start and they were not able to carry on till the end. that shows good fight back from the Sri Lankans.what I think is that Sri Lanka has done there job.we arent playing cricket to win by run ratea.dont forget that Bangladeah defeated New Zealand and WI on their home ground. Mr.Herath seems like that he has no cricketing sence at all but just a critique. .adding to this you should better kno that Ireland defated WI in the T20 who were the world champions..very funny isnt it?? with the big guna like Gayle.they have lost

Posted by BanCricFan on (February 20, 2014, 1:55 GMT)

Hope to see a win today! Sri Lanka is better than ours for sure however, I believe that we can win rest of the matches. Go tigers go...

Posted by veconoiSL on (February 20, 2014, 1:53 GMT)

I support Sri Lanka and I'm a big fan of BD cricket I still admire BD victory over India in Asia cup 2012 and BD is the team that I support after SL. Also the BD victories over NZ were grate(watched the highlights). well, there was a time when the next match was against BD all the other teams thought it is an easy win but it has changed now, BD is now a much much more better team that can pose a challenge to any other team in world cricket. I want to see BD win T20 world cup if Sri Lanka failed. BD is a strong, young and exiting team with much to prove. well taking an easy to win or an imposible to win match and making it a thiriller is a Sri Lankan thing almost all the matches sri lanka took part in the near future were thrillers so its nothing to do about BD Cricket.

Posted by   on (February 20, 2014, 0:57 GMT)

@TheKeeper I totally agree with your comments on those BD commentators. They are like teen girls who are on the first date. Every little good thing BD players do tickle them .....

Posted by   on (February 20, 2014, 0:08 GMT)

@Fast_Track_Bully: If your team manages to reach a final of future ICC event, who do you think they'll play against??? SRI LANKA!!!

Posted by android_user on (February 19, 2014, 23:33 GMT)

@syed adlou- celebration is not about wining a game against a poor team or world class team.. that's all about winning a match that totally looks like losing

Posted by SLRevSwing on (February 19, 2014, 22:33 GMT)

There is no doubt BD team had great potential and they are gong to be a very strong team soon. They have had great batsmen all along but always gifted their wickets due to lack of experience. I also feel that BD selectors and public too lose faith in a player very soon ask seek replacements preventing these fine young batsmen gaining valuable experience. I was amazed to read comments from a few BD fans that Nasir Hossain should be left out following a couple of low scores. If BD do not want him, as a SL fan I for one would like to see him play for SL any day. Better luck to BD on 2nd ODI. If SL does not put on a better show BD surely deserve to win this match.

Herath Uk@ still remember in 80's or early 90's we use to stop watching Sl team because they are pathetic on the field sorry forget about that sl U19 lost against AFg few weeks ago ?? Grow up !!

Posted by   on (February 19, 2014, 20:00 GMT)

@asiacricket1234: Dude U need to go easy on this Herath Guy. Read all of his comments. Do U really think he is a Sri Lankan? In here people can pretend to be anyone & that guy probably one of our those neighbour who always post negative stuff about us & I think U know who they are. Ignore him. He'll keep pretending like Sri Lankan & eventually give up. Sri Lanka is a fine team & our boys fought hard too. So far its been a great series and fan from both counrties acknowledge that probably thats why some ppl need to start problem here.

Posted by Nadush on (February 19, 2014, 19:59 GMT)

The fact that so many Sri Lankan has start commenting against Bangladesh proves we are on the right track. Need to win some close games - as Sri Lankan coach mentioned. Sri Lanka was the better team on that day and they won. Angelo's Captaincy was excellent. Its a new day and a new game and Bangladesh will win being a better team.

Posted by Fogu on (February 19, 2014, 19:50 GMT)

Herath-UK - I agree with you that BD commentators are terrible and I agree that in patches BD did not look good but that does not say a lot about SL either. SL struggled to beat such a poor team like BD (according to you). IF BD is so atrocious, I think it is an indictment of SL cricket that #1 team had to wait till last ball to win. I support SL after BD and I respect SL team but some fans need to get over themselves that includes some BD fans too. By the way, Afg U-19 did qualify for second round but I wouldn't go about saying that they are better than BD. If you paid attention, you would have noticed, BD beat them by 10 wickets. Unfortunately BD did not pummel Namibia like they should have and lost out on NRR. I am looking forward to the matches with SL regardless of the results.

Posted by asiacricket1234 on (February 19, 2014, 19:36 GMT)

@Herath from kent: How pathetically narrow minded can you get? Our catch miss showed that we shouldn't be playing international cricket? How about our fielding in the last 2 T20 which was far better than yours? Don't talk about fielding because even last year SL lost matches because of catch miss so now what you gonna say that SL shouldn't play international cricket either? You just wont stop posting rubbish, Look at the comments of other Sri Lankan. They said they loved the matches so what you gonna say that all Sri Lankan fans are fan of poor cricket team too. Let me tell you they are not but you are one of those who shouldn't even be watching cricket. For the record our Under 19 team did beat Afghan team and England under 19 team. They couldn't get to the next round for the run rate. Although I dont expect someone like you to understand it. Anyway its not like anyone asking to watch this matches why are you crying about it

Posted by TheKeeper on (February 19, 2014, 19:08 GMT)

I think Roshan Abeysinghe's commentry is excellent and unbiased - It's Athar Ali Khan shouting at me that I just cannot listen to and need to turn the volume off before he drives me mad. Shamim Chaoudry is okay to listen to, except he has a habit of making demigods out of the BAN players. He and Athar talk up the BAN players so much that when BAN loses the match, these two are totally shattered.

Posted by Herath-UK on (February 19, 2014, 19:00 GMT)

The two BD commentators are so boring too; one should rewind & listen to them ;a one four or a six or a 'good' position is as much as they have won the WC. I'm so gutted by adoring BD fans who don't feel sick to death. Afg have pipped them at the under 19 too so they don't have even a light at the end of the tunnel!

Posted by Herath-UK on (February 19, 2014, 18:54 GMT)

The fact of the matter is it was a comedy of errors of fielding we saw from BD not fit to be of international standard. Be batting bowling or even fielding. Catches were grasped to such a level became a laughing matter which are not seen at a village game here. How many times Sri Lanka won from the last ball or from such precarious position as 68 for 8; it becomes boring because you know Sri Lanka will still win it at last! It may be thrilling to poor BD fans but in us does not increase our adrenalin because we know the result at the end! What a wonderful thrill the under 19 SL Vs Eng made. I'll watch the QF of our under 19 game instead of 3rd ODI with BD. That much thrill this series is!!

Since SL won the last ODI match I read all comments to find my BANGALA fan who writes the equation for to compare the two teams after every match. And I can remember that he wrote at last (BNG > SL - Sanga). Do not try to compare teams my friend. Better we all try to improve ourselves. So, I can give you an equation for your team (BNG > BNG - sensible cricket).

guys why did Srilanka lose to Bangladesh in the asia cup 2012 as Bangladesh is such a worst team, doesnt belong to intl standard and also 3 times previously and moreover losing to Bangladesh and drawing an ODI series in the home a shame for Srilanka......if Srilanka loses any match in the coming two ODis and asia cup it will be a shame for them.......

Posted by asiacricket1234 on (February 19, 2014, 18:01 GMT)

Gotto agree that most of the Sri Lankan fans are nice and true cricket fan but some of them are really irritating. Some of you are saying we are not belong to international cricket. Seriously? After nearly losing 2 T20 you are saying this. If we don't belong here than you should be ashamed of your performance against us. Not 2 mention in our last 4 ODI's we won 2 of them. so how come we are not belong here but still beating your team? What does that say about your team. Sri Lankan fans are known as nice people so people like Kavindu needs to stop ruining their reputation. If you can't respect others at least learn to respect yourself and Fahii you are not a neutral fan. You are a Pakistani fan and all you guys do is SULK about others. So what you think doesn't really have any value. You guys wait till we lose and than come out of your cave to make rubbish comments. Where were you when we won our last ODI series or draw test series???

Posted by   on (February 19, 2014, 17:49 GMT)

Well played Sri Lanka during second half of the match. Well done Lions.. I totally agree with Syed Adlou... Bangladesh is becoming a tough team now. I'm quite happy to see the growth of Bangladesh over the years. Bangladesh players need to focus and not loose their concentration on tricky situations during a match. we saw several run outs and they are totally unnecessary. If they improve that. Even a WC victory is not far away for them. Rapid growth of Countries like Bangladesh is a green light to the future of the game of Cricket. I wish for the success of Bangladesh cricket and also hope Sri Lanka will not collapse cheaply during 2nd match...

Well people saying Bangladesh are minnows, did you see the celebrations by the SL guys? They were celebrating like they won the world cup, especially captain Matthews :) !! Atleast now we know in prematch conferences that they dont consider Bangladesh as pushovers.

SL has the ability to out-class BD, they are going through bad patch but BD could not even win a game, BD has always been a minow side & will always remain same.......just enjoy losing with dignity.

Posted by Htc-Android on (February 19, 2014, 16:41 GMT)

I am not satisfied with our batting performance. I am expecting a better batting performance from our players tomorrow. Perera wont be able to save us everytime. Dilshan need to play the anchor role tomorrow. If Kusal is taking apart the bowlers, then there is no need for Dilshan to go after the bowling.

Posted by Peacer on (February 19, 2014, 16:35 GMT)

@by Sameeratennakoon : Putting my thumb up off also. They simply don't allow us to enjoy the game. Bad commentary from BD. Commentators need to get rd of their eye patches to some degree at least.. ! It simply doesn't matter, which country they cheer or which team they want to win, But whoever win at the end of the day, they should need to enjoy the game.. ! That is what cricket all about.

Posted by   on (February 19, 2014, 16:29 GMT)

I agree the commentary from the Bangladesh guys is biased and annoying... I like the SL ones better as they do their job without making their team look like kings. Anyway this series is brilliant for the neutrals... thanks SL for coming!

@loris Why do you blame thirimanne? he's not even playing. Is he the Jonathan trott of Sri lanka? being blamed for everything? #thirimanne'sfault

Posted by   on (February 19, 2014, 16:25 GMT)

Right time for the selection committee to drop Chandimal and give regular spot in the team to a young and upcoming batsmen . He has been given enough chances , it will be risk if the committee persist with Chandimal till the world cup and ideally Mathews should have captained T20 side for world cup . He is in the T20 team xoz of his captancy role only not because of his form or ability . Time to be more reactive than waiting for things to change ....

Posted by KingOwl on (February 19, 2014, 16:20 GMT)

I think Bangla commentators and fans too often blame bad luck, lousy running between wickets, poor shot selection, etc. Well, it needs to be understood that these thing happen because they can't handle pressure. Cricket at the highest level is about pressure and mental aptitude in handling that pressure. So, instead of looking at the symptoms, they need to analyse the real reasons and find solutions. Otherwise, they will remain like this.

@Sameeratennakoon spot on mate. couldn't have said it better myself. i think its time for neutral commentators as well but of course the budget is an issue for that. imo Tony greig was & Danny Morrison is currently the most neutral of all commentators who loved the game above all instead of having biased opinions.

Tisara Perera should come before useless Chandimal

Posted by Dhali_BD_Fan on (February 19, 2014, 15:48 GMT)

Shohag, Nasir and Mahmadullah - should be dropped immediately untill they re-start performing. Keeping them in the game when they are out of form or not trying hard enough at this level is the 1st primary mistake causing other mistakes. They are obviously not up to par at the momemt, what does the BD team have to lose by bringing in or trying other players? Where is Naeem, Sabbir, Taskin and Imrul? BD fans are hugely dissapointed with these performances - in contrast SL's fighting spirit and self beleif is exceptional but they too have underperformed.

Bangladesh always learn from their previous mistake, but unfortunately couldn't apply. Bangladesh is world's worst cricket team which they proved in last three matches. From very good position they lose matches, couldn't hold temperament, couldn't be attacking, it's really irritating to watch again and again. In this match hope Bangladesh will lose by big margin with their very ordinary tactics. BTW why Bangladesh don't have any full time foreign fielding coach and A team head coach ? Lack of money ? Also there are no regular activities of A team, development team and youth teams, why ? lack of planning ?

Its time for bangladesh to show their aggressiveness in end result of the match . I see confidence only when they were given a mic to speak not when they are out in the field to bat .

It seems to BD commentators don't know the game as well .

In Last T20 final ball , no ball case ; only on field umpires can give a no ball that over waist high. They try blame 3rd umpire.

And they always try place BD cricketers over the moon always when they do some good work . But most of them are normal in international Level.

BD cricketers always play to please crowed. That is not the way to do it . If you watch U19 WC they can learn lot of things .

Even SL didn't play well except 2 Tests. Only one or two players won matches for their team. There professional level is questionable at times when they batting . Its good iron out these errors before Asia cup T20 WC.

Bangladesh simply lack common sense in their batting to be able to win games. They keep going for the big shot in the quest of scoring quick runs and getting the crowd up on their feet dancing. They've been able to win the few games that they have with that strategy but they lose more often than win and deservedly so.

Anyway, I think BD is not a bad team in a shorter formats in their home soil. Their last 3 losses cause by bad their shot selection and inability to handle the pressure. Last 3 wins not up to the marks for the Sri lankans.Lahiru Tirimanne is a test batsmen. should not include into shorter formats ever.

Bangladesh is full of optimists. Let's hope that in this match that BAN umpire can get his decisions correct. The Kusal Janith Perera LBW was a total shocker where the ball was going down leg-side by a yard. Even the Ashan Priyanjan LBW was impact clearly outside the line and a very bad decision at this level.

Tomorrow will be a big day for BAN team to show they can lift themselves out of the hole. My feeling is that BAN team plays with a little chip on their shoulders and that leads them to be over aggressive in an effort to show themselves up. It's not working and BAN need to talk as a team and play to a play - every player should put the team first and play for the team.

Best of luck to both teams - may the bast team win...and hopefully we fans will get to watch another thriller.

Watching match between SL and BD gets boring because of commentators of BD. I turn down volume every time when they comment. All the subcontinent commentators except for SL are so boasting about their players and teams while put opposition into a zero position. If Rangana Hearath balls into the tracks of the pitch Rameez Raja says "It's a negative balling line by Sri Lankans". But if ajmal balls to those track he is a smart baller who takes advantage the pitch.. If Upul Tharanga plays a boundary over fine 3 rd man Sanjay Manjekar says " oh lucky, he edges it into a 4". But if kohli edges for a boundary he says "open the face of the bat an brilliantly played". If we promote one of our allrounders up in the order Sunil Gavaskar says " SL are sending their night watchman". We are very proud of Russell Arnold and Roshan Abeysinghe.

BCB can target some venues for Bounce and spinning or difficult track. Each venue should have few difficult pitches where match will be tight and difficult to score. Good fought earned 100 in difficult track can increase a batsman overall ability much higher. First class cricket much not play on low flat wickets where scoring is much easier and without pressure. Competitive teams and format can make a tournament close contested. Govt owned Sports Institution BKSP should have spin and pace department where they should produce whist spinners not just finger or left arm spinners. We need to produce spinners those can turn big in any track. Why govt is not setting up two/ three world class cricket Academy, cricket is so much popular and money is there. For this time BD should have at least two world class Cricket Academy.

Don't bet on it coach Farbrace! Bangaldesh can hold their own against anyone. They have been extremely unlucky in their last 3 games in addition to their captains tactical errors (Shakib's non-use) highlighted by cricinfo journalists. In any case the best of teams can implode several times over in cricket. As the coach I suggest you have a little pep talk with Dilshan whose batting has been woeful recently. He needs your attention...

Nayeem should get a chance in place of Mahmudullah . Because they both are bowling all rounder, Naeem record was much better than Mahmudullah in recent past.

In a way, I'm happy that Bangladesh lost the 1st game. As it's still a rising ladder for the team and the boys are just started to play for regular wins, they need these kind of defeats to learn a Lession! They've become too relaxed after SL's 68/2 which lead them to end with 180/10. Surprisingly they didn't learn from it and again became too relax after 114/2 and ended up 13 short of 180. How can you afford 2 big mistakes in a same match?? Big teams often say in pre-match conferences, "we are not taking the minnow team like XYZ lightly". But BD boys clearly forgot this is international cricket and SL is a top ranked team with reputed fight-back histories. So I would take positives from these 3 closes matches and hope it brings more success for the forthcoming future (aBc)

Kulasekara is already out of the squad with an injury. It is much better to replace him with Prev Maharoof and not with relatively old Dhammika Prasad

@Fast_Track_Bully ; Nice to see that you've come outta your hiding after those humiliating defeats India suffered in the hand of the no.8 ranked team. I'm pretty sure Bangladesh are gonna thrash your team in the Asia Cup. As far as I know, India won its last match 108 days ago, that too in India. So, Did you really come here to talk about Sri Lanka's abilities ?

Posted by CricketFever11 on (February 19, 2014, 10:15 GMT)

@Fast_Track_Bully: I guess you lost no 8 ranked team. Lol.

Posted by SriLankanYoungBlood on (February 19, 2014, 9:52 GMT)

I think SL win this. Because BD loose last 2 matches(2nd T20/1st ODI) by them selves. They have big issue of Good Finishers both Bowling and Batting.

Posted by Fast_Track_Bully on (February 19, 2014, 9:49 GMT)

@Nayana Nilupul Jayamanna . Champions? When? which format? You must be kidding. This BD series is an evidence of your team's ability. Do not think you can beat a top team with this kind of cricket!

Bangaldesh and Bangaldesh commentators should not over estimate themselves. They are improving team..but still they don't produce world class players like sri lanka did in their early days except sakib..sri lanka did have players like Sanath,Kalu Murali,Arjua,Aravinda and vassi ...Their commentataors over estimating their players...They should do their basic sanga and mahel doing for sri lanka..Good luck both the teams....

Posted by Vikum72 on (February 19, 2014, 8:57 GMT)

I think BD has lost their chance. SL will come hard at them tomorrow, with quite a few players wanting to prove a point. I predict an easy win for SL.

Posted by Rambo88 on (February 19, 2014, 8:47 GMT)

Sri lanka should win the 2nd game without a problem, I think after what happend on the 1st game, confidence of the BD team must be really down and they must be still shocked on how they lost the game. so looking at the situation this game should be a walk in the park for Sri lanka.

but we need to play better cricket when we face teams like pakistan and india in Asia cup, I personally belive Sri lanka will face some problems from the pakistan team but this time India should not be a problem for sri lanka.

My prediction for the Asia cup is that its gonna be a Sri lanka vs Pakistan final for sure and bangladesh and india will be kicked out of the tournament for sure.

T20 world cup will be interesting, looks like Bangladesh pictches will make it a interesting t20 competion and i think there will be some close games.

Bangladesh team needs to get their act together. These players should relish that they are playing at the highest level and representing the nation. You're making the people of country who support you in tonnes of numbers extremely disappointed with these pathetic performances like in the last ODI where Bangladesh obviously should've won. Bangladesh fans don't deserve this and tired of this kind of humiliation.

Why does the top order consist of Shamsur, Anamul and Mominul? they are talented but heavily inexperienced and instead need to mix the order up with the experience players otherwise we will have a bad couple of months coming up. I also question the attitude and fitness of certain Bangladesh players as it tells me they do not care at all what happens regarding the team and taking their places for granted. Players like Gazi and Nasir have been playing bad and its about time to act.

Now I understand why people call us minnows, embarrassing and stuff and sadly, they are correct.

Isn't Nuwan Kulasekara injured? If so I wonder who would replace him in the second ODI?

Posted by   on (February 19, 2014, 8:03 GMT)

Guys My Bangladesh team XI 1.Tamim 2.Shamsur 3.Anamul 4.Mominul 5.Mushfiq 6.Shakib 7.Naeem 8.Shohag. 9.Mashrafe 10.Arafat. 11.Al amin
