Sri Lanka in Bangladesh ODI Series - 3rd ODI

Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka won by 6 wickets (with 15 balls remaining)

All set, we are. Walking towards the middle, the batsmen are. Wicketkeeping, Chandimal is. To take the strike against Lakmal, it's Anamul

12.55 pm Five minutes away from the start. No Malinga today; he has been rested. So we will have Dhammika Prasad and Suranga Lakmal with the new ball soon

The match is being played on the same pitch as the the first ODI.. remember 67 for 8?. There is a tinge of green on the pitch, but it should still be a good batting surface. Angelo Mathews says that the moisture in the pitch might help his seamers, that is why he chose to field. Mushfiqur says that the team needs to get the processes right, the result will follow (I have heard that before from other players too).

12.38 pm Sri Lanka have won the toss and opted to field

Still waiting for the toss information, but here is the Bangladesh XI : 1 Anamul Haque (wk), 2 Shamsur Rahman, 3 Mominul Haque, 4 Mushfiqur Rahim (capt), 5 Naeem Islam, 6 Mahmudullah 7 Nasir Hossain, 8 Sohag Gazi, 9 Arafat Sunny, 10 Shafiul Islam, 11 Rubel Hossain

Naeem Islam has come in place of Shakib. Mashrafe Mortaza is also out of the squad for this match.

Sri Lanka: 1 Kusal Perera, 2 Lahiru Thirimanne, 3 Dinesh Chandimal, 4 Ashan Priyanjan, 5 Kithuruwan Vithanage, 6 Angelo Mathews (capt), 7 Thisara Perera, 8 Angelo Perera, 9 Sachithra Senanayake, 10 Dhammika Prasad, 11 Suranga Lakmal.

Tharaka: "The Sri Lankan team today is so young, they could be playing in the U19 world cup quarter final in Sharjah instead!"

DBK: "Seems like Bangladesh is also without the big 3 (Tamim, Shakib and Mashrafee) ! This match would be a great chance for the young guns of both teams to prepare themselves before the Asia Cup."

12.15 pm Hello and welcome to our coverage of the third ODI. The series is already in Sri Lanka's pocket, but because this is the last match for both teams before the Asia Cup, the importance cannot be undermined. A big chance for the Sri Lankans, who are without the holy trinity of Sanga, Dilshan and Mahela, to show a glimpse of the future. For Bangladesh, it's a chance to redeem some of their lost confidence - there home ODI record has been very good over the past couple of years and the series loss has come as a setback. Shakib's suspension hasn't helped them. Mohammad Isam chronicles Shakib's misdemeanours and says the punishment could have come earlier.

Akil Masoon: "Hoping For a Cracker of a Game Today .Big day For Sri Lanka Playing in the Quater final Of U19 World Cup vs Pakistan and In Bangladesh playing without the big 3 for the first time Since the opening Game in 1999 World Cup In England"

Randika: "Outside of the holy trinity of Dili, Mahela and Sanga, let's not forget SL doesn't have Herath, Kulasekara or even Shaminda Eranga. This is as good of a chance for BD for a win and as good of a chance for the youngsters in SL team to show what they are capable of"

Tandra: "Today we'll miss Shakib. But he should never forget that he is an idle for most of the Bangladeshi youngers. Cricket is the only game by which here in Australia the peoples know the name Bangladesh"

0.1

Lakmal to Anamul Haque, no run, pitches on a length outside off and swings away, the batsman leaves it alone

Robert: "@Tharaka haha you know something is wrong when 26-year old Angelo Mathews seems like the elder statesman!"

0.2

Lakmal to Anamul Haque, no run, fuller this time and swings away like the previous delivery, the batsman watches it go through

0.3

Lakmal to Anamul Haque, no run, this time it's on the stumps, the batman stays in the crease and defends it to off

0.4

Lakmal to Anamul Haque, no run, he keeps it nicely in the channel outside off, Anamul stays patient and lets it go

Hunbbel Meer: "What's wrong, with the English is? Why talking like this, are we? Anyway, is this the theme today?" --- It's the day of Master Yoda

0.5

Lakmal to Anamul Haque, no run, was there an inside edge that saved the batsman! It was a good chance up delivery by the bowler, it pitched it full and that came in. Anamul was stuck in the crease and if there was not inside edge, he was a gonner.. That was a terrific change up delivery

0.6

Lakmal to Anamul Haque, no run, starts off with a maiden as the batsman defends this length delivery to point

End of over 1 (maiden) Bangladesh 0/0 (RR: 0.00)
Anamul Haque    0* (6b)      RAS Lakmal    1-1-0-0
Shamsur Rahman    0* (0b)

Thisara is in, two slips for him

1.1

NLTC Perera to Shamsur Rahman, no run, it's full and it's swinging away from the batsman, he goes after it for some reason and is beaten

1.2

NLTC Perera to Shamsur Rahman, no run, this is better from Shamsur. He comes forward, watches the ball is moving away, and lets it go

1.3

NLTC Perera to Shamsur Rahman, 1 run, and there is an outside edge this time, but I think he was in control of this. It skims along the surface, past the second slip, to third man

1.4

NLTC Perera to Anamul Haque, 1 wide, this one is too wide and swings further away! He bowled it with a grunt

1.4

NLTC Perera to Anamul Haque, no run, bowls this one on a length and it doesn't swing, the batsman defends it towards midwicket

Anamul Haque    0* (9b)      NLTC Perera    1-0-2-0
Shamsur Rahman    1* (3b)      RAS Lakmal    1-1-0-0

2.1

Lakmal to Shamsur Rahman, no run, another loose shot from the batsman! This is slightly short in length and he throws the kitchen sink on it,is beaten by the bounce...

2.2

Lakmal to Shamsur Rahman, 2 runs, big big trouble! The batsman dabs it to cover point and charges out of the crease, he was halfway down the middle when his partner told him to go back. Angelo Perera though wasnt able to pick it up cleanly. When he does, he fires a throw in, hits the stumps and gives away overthrow runs

2.3

Lakmal to Shamsur Rahman, no run, this one cuts in from the pitch! the batsman had no idea how that came in such a long way, it's through to the keeper after bouncing over the stumps

2.4

Lakmal to Shamsur Rahman, no run, another loose shot! Shamsur is being hurried into his shots. This was a length ball outside off and the batsman tries to drive it on the up, it just evades the outside edge

2.5

Lakmal to Shamsur Rahman, 1 run, throws his bat again, a bit unnecessary i must say. There was width and he cracks it to third man, more of an outside edge than a controlled shot that one

2.6

Lakmal to Anamul Haque, 1 wide, this is short and wide, outside the wide marker, the batsman still chases it. It's a wide, leave it alone

2.6

Lakmal to Anamul Haque, no run, stays on the back foot, rises with the ball and defends it to off

End of over 3 (4 runs) Bangladesh 6/0 (RR: 2.00)
Anamul Haque    0* (10b)      RAS Lakmal    2-1-4-0
Shamsur Rahman    4* (8b)      NLTC Perera    1-0-2-0

3.1

NLTC Perera to Shamsur Rahman, FOUR, this time he gets it off the middle! There was width, yes, and he gets it off the middle, it rockets past point for the team's first boundary

3.2

NLTC Perera to Shamsur Rahman, no run, full and wide delivery, it swings away and Shamsur swings his bat too... Another play and a miss.

3.3

NLTC Perera to Shamsur Rahman, no run, the fine leg had come up, so Shamsur walks across the stumps to play a cute glance and misses again.. This is over the middle and leg stump, as he misses it.. Too much cuteness being attempted here

3.4

NLTC Perera to Shamsur Rahman, FOUR, better from Shamsur this time. It's full delivery on off, he takes a forward step and cracks it through cover point for a conventionally hit shot.. nicely done

3.5

NLTC Perera to Shamsur Rahman, no run, solid forward defence this time, he pushes it to cover

3.6

4.1

Lakmal to Shamsur Rahman, no run, short of length outside off, Shamsur waits on the back foot and cuts it straight to point

4.2

Lakmal to Shamsur Rahman, no run, this one is close to off stump, the batsman defends it to cover and thinks about a single, but is rightly sent back

4.3

Lakmal to Shamsur Rahman, no run, better now from Shamsur as he solidly defends this delivery back down the pitch

Uwaisul Karnain: "After the 2nd ODI, Mushfiqur Rahim highlighted that they are slow learners. But looking at the way the openers throwing their bats at every thing, I seriously doubt whether they will learn at all."

4.4

Lakmal to Shamsur Rahman, no run, well bowled by Lakmal and well played by Shamsur, the length ball is defended down the pitch.. Four dot balls now

Shamsur Rahman    13* (20b 2x4)      RAS Lakmal    3-2-4-0

5.1

Prasad to Anamul Haque, no run, starts off with a short of length delivery on off, the batsman defends it to midwicket off the back foot

5.3

Prasad to Anamul Haque, 2 runs, he gets his first runs with a lovely whip to deep midwicket! It was short of length outside off and he hops on his crease to get behind it, then whips it with quick wrist action

5.4

Prasad to Anamul Haque, no run, oh this one cut back in sharply! This hits the back thigh pad and lobs to the keeper, was always going over the stumps, but that surprised the batsman

5.5

Prasad to Anamul Haque, no run, now that last ball has created a doubt! He goes after this full delivery and plays inside the line! It flies past the outside edge

5.6

Prasad to Anamul Haque, OUT, and Dammika has a wicket in his first over! It's stack overflow, the blue screen of death, core dump.. as they say it! Anamul played that lovely shot earlier in the over, then started playing loose shots. This one was short of length and rising outside off, the batsman plays a nothing poke away from his body and the outside edge flies waist high to the keeper. Can't say I didn't see it coming..

9.1

Prasad to Mominul Haque, no run, he is beating them for pace here! This one skids after pitching and Mominul tries to push at it without getting anywhere close to the line, gets beaten

9.2

Prasad to Mominul Haque, FOUR, not this time though! Dammika pitches it a touch further and Mominul is comfortable to come forward and slice it through point.. All timing in this one and it's along the ground.. Nicely done

9.3

Prasad to Mominul Haque, no run, he tried to whip this through on side, but gets a leading edge towards mid-off.. That wasn't very far from the short cover fielder

9.4

Prasad to Mominul Haque, FOUR, oh this is nicely done too! He waited for the ball, then opened the face very late to guide it past the first slip fielder.. Very well controlled that one.. No chance for third man

9.5

Prasad to Mominul Haque, 3 runs, the bowler attempts a yorker, but it's a low full toss that is pushed through cover for a couple

NLTC Perera to Mominul Haque, 1 run, he stays in the crease and flicks it to deep midwicket.. Nicely done. They seem to have settled down now

13.2

NLTC Perera to Shamsur Rahman, no run, well played by Shamsur too. He presses forward and pushes the length delivery to point

Burhan: "When will both of the openers of Bangladesh team will learn to perform in the same day? In first ODI the Anamul was duck, Shamsur on the second and again Anamul in this match. Please show us that both opener can get run in the same match. I am not asking both of them to get centuries. But at least get into double digit instead of throwing one in duck in every game!"

13.3

NLTC Perera to Shamsur Rahman, no run, he gets a full delivery, but this one is like a late-over biff! He moves his front leg out and tried to crash it through extra cover, but hits it straight to mid-off

13.4

NLTC Perera to Shamsur Rahman, 1 run, good single this time! He drops it towards cover and calls early

Mayank: "Mominul Haque has something in him which not Bangladeshi by nature. He doesnt play too many shots. Plays according to match situation. Angelo is rotating his bowlers quite a bit.. Now Dammika Prasad is back

16.1

Prasad to Mominul Haque, 1 run, short of length delivery outside off, Mominul opens the face to slide it down the third man for an easy single

16.2

Prasad to Shamsur Rahman, OUT, Dammika strikes again! It's a short ball, the first one of the day.. And it was quick too. The batsman was sucked into playing a hook shot and was no way in control of that.. A deep square leg was placed for that exact shot and it just settles into his hands.. He didn't have to move an inch.. It's good when a plan comes together..Shamsur's scratchy stay ends.

Shamsur Rahman c AK Perera b Prasad 25 (68m 44b 2x4 0x6) SR: 56.81

That wicket came from nowhere. The batting was looking easy and it was a smart use of the bouncer from Dammika. Sri Lanka needed to break through as this stand was threatening to grow into something bigger...

16.4

Prasad to Mominul Haque, 1 run, nicely climbs the bounce and pushes it past point to third man.. well played by the batsman there as there was not much room on that

39.6

Senanayake to Naeem Islam, OUT, and there is a wicket off the last ball of the Powerplay! They had done everything right - not too many runs, but they didn't lose a wicket - but Naeem decides to make the most of the last ball. he charges down the pitch and tries to clear mid-off, but fails to do so. Easy catch in the end

41.4

41.5

Mathews to Mahmudullah, 1 run, another slower delivery outside off, Mahmudduah picks up a single to third man

41.6

Mathews to Nasir Hossain, 1 run, and again, this is the fourth single to third man. Nicely controlled late cut by Nasir

44.1

Lakmal to Mahmudullah, OUT, Lakmal finally gets something in that last column of his bowling figures! The one time Mahmudullah throws his bat at the length ball, he hits it straight to long on. That pressure was building for a while and it has consumed the batsman. There is a strange uneasy buzz around the ground because the runs have been hard to come by. Mahmudullah tries to break it with one shot and perishes

Sohag Gazi is the new man

44.2

Lakmal to Sohag Gazi, 1 run, a good yorker to the new man, Gazi manages to squeeze it to deep midwicket

44.3

Lakmal to Nasir Hossain, no run, length delivery on off, the batsman defends it to point

44.4

Lakmal to Nasir Hossain, OUT, another wicket! This is the big one. Nasir Hossain hits the full toss straight to midwicket. It's all falling apart. There had been so many full tosses from Lakmal that Naeem had failed to get away. This time, Nasir shows the right intent, but doesn't manage to beat the midwicket fielder, who takes a head high catch. Some luck with those full tosses for Lakmal, but I guess, you make your own luck by bowling well. That 250-run target is distant now

Nasir Hossain c Priyanjan b Lakmal 38 (71m 43b 4x4 0x6) SR: 88.37

44.5

44.6

Lakmal to Shafiul Islam, no run, another full toss, this time hit to the midwicket fielder again

Anoop Khushalan: "This should be a long break on Mahmudullah's career. Got enough opportunities to prove himself. Got lucky today coz of Shakib but didn't cash in."

End of over 45 (1 run) Bangladesh 201/7 (RR: 4.46)
Shafiul Islam    0* (2b)      RAS Lakmal    9-3-18-2
Sohag Gazi    1* (1b)      SMSM Senanayake    8-0-33-1

45.1

Senanayake to Sohag Gazi, SIX, the first six of the innings! And it could have been a wicket too. The batsman came out of the crease and lofted it over wide long-on, great effort by the fielder but it was always going away from him

45.2

Senanayake to Sohag Gazi, 1 leg bye, this one has turned in a mile, hits the pad. Loud appeal for lbw, but the umpire reckons this would have turned down the leg side

45.4

Senanayake to Shafiul Islam, no run, this one goes straight on and the batsman, who was playing for the turn, gets beaten

46.4

Lakmal to Sohag Gazi, no run, another good yorker on off by Lakmal, Gazi pushes it to midwicket, but that's straight to the man there, so no run

Canberrian: "Making less than 240 will not stand a chance for BD bearing in mind that Sakib is not there to bowl today. BD need to tarket Perera's 2 over to make some quick run as Lakmal is bowling brilliant today."

46.5

Lakmal to Sohag Gazi, 1 run, he makes room but doesn't get it off the middle, manages to push it down to long on

46.6

Lakmal to Shafiul Islam, FOUR, manages to get this one through the gap! It was full on off, the batsman drives it firmly through to deep cover where Vithanage makes a good diving save, however, the ball just rolls over to touch the line. Another welcome boundary

47.1

Mathews to Sohag Gazi, SIX, this was slow and short, the batsman charged down the pitch, was down too early, but still had time to swing it all the way over long on.. This is turning out to be a very very useful cameo from Gazi

47.2

Mathews to Sohag Gazi, 1 run, another slow short ball, Gazi repeats the shot, but doesn't get the timing this time.. It drops short of the long on fielder

47.3

Mathews to Shafiul Islam, no run, a good slower delivery from Mathews, the batsman is too early in his attempted guide to third man and is beaten

47.4

Mathews to Shafiul Islam, no run, now a quick short ball, again the batsman fails to connect as it flies over the bat

47.5

47.6

Mathews to Sohag Gazi, 1 run, he bowls it full to Gazi this time, and the batsman punches it down to long off for a single. He will keep the strike

End of over 48 (9 runs) Bangladesh 230/7 (RR: 4.79)
Sohag Gazi    22* (10b 3x6)      AD Mathews    2-0-13-0

That 250-target, that looked distant a while ago, is again a possibility. Thisara Perera to bowl the second last over

48.1

NLTC Perera to Sohag Gazi, 1 run, full delivery outside off, the batsman wanted to push it through off, but gets an inside edge down to long on for a single

48.2

NLTC Perera to Shafiul Islam, no run, he throws his bat at the length delivery by making room, but he makes no connection

48.3

NLTC Perera to Shafiul Islam, 1 run, he dabs it to cover and calls for a risky single, would have made it even if the fielder had hit

48.4

NLTC Perera to Sohag Gazi, no run, a very good yorker by Perera, it somehow misses the off stump..

48.5

NLTC Perera to Sohag Gazi, OUT, it's the end of Gazi! He tries to play a dilscoop as the fine leg is up, but he exposes his middle and leg stump. This was straight and quick and once he missed it, it was all over. The arrangement of stumps is disturbed

Sohag Gazi b NLTC Perera 23 (23m 13b 0x4 3x6) SR: 176.92

48.6

NLTC Perera to Arafat Sunny, no run, oh that's a very good over now, he bowls a quick delivery across the batsman, who doesn't connect

49.6

Mathews to Shafiul Islam, 2 runs, full and driven down the ground, mid-off dives across to cut it off and keeps them to two

Bangladesh would have taken that total I guess. It was a strange sort of innings today by the Bangladesh batsmen - they made a nervy start and made it to 50 with the loss of one wicket, but just when they appeared settled, they lost wickets out of nowhere. Mominul brought up his first ODI fifty, but his dismissal was typical of the day - a direct hit from the deep catching him short. Bangladesh looked set for 250-plus total, but lost a clump of wickets in the end and was it not for some late hitting from Gazi, would have struggled to get over 220. Excellent bowling by Sri Lankans through. Suranga Lakmal picked up a couple of wickets, but it was the tight lines he bowled that caused most damage - he brought up his most economical figures today. Dhammika Prasad was good too - picking up three wickets in his first ODI after a long gap. We will be back in 30 mins to bring you the chase.

Uwaisul Karnain: "Excellent death bowling from Thisara Perera. SL fast bowlers and medium pacers have not let their captain feel the absence of Maling and Kulasekara. It's up to their young batsmen now."

End of over 50 (8 runs) Bangladesh 240/8
