West Indies in Bangladesh ODI Series - 3rd ODI

Bangladesh v West Indies

West Indies won by 4 wickets (with 18 balls remaining)

The umpires are out. Rampaul, five wickets last game, with the ball. Tamim Iqbal to face.

Riz: "Hopefully BD cricketers and not emotionally effected by this morning's instead. It might pile up some unnecessary pressure on their shoulders" We are all hoping for a cracker. I remember that West Indies game in the World Cup last year where the defeat wasn't taken too well either.

Asif makes a fervent appeal: "We try to look for the slightest of reasons to start protests and vandalizing! Last few weeks was the Stock Exchange, and now this. Cricket is perhaps one of the only good things we have. Let's not get carried away this much!"

nazif: "3 matches in a row Mush has lost the toss and BD have managed to win the first two.Hope it stays that way.....However the worry this time is because of likely dew in the evening which causes trouble for the bowlers to grip the ball well..." Will be interesting to see how the spinners go in those conditions, Gazi in particular, after his seven wickets from two games.

2.25 pm Dry track and will have something in it for the spinners. Darren Sammy has a sheepish laugh after winning the toss, exclaiming, he had the won the toss again. Remembers the World Cup game where his side restricted the home team to a sub-100 score.

2.15 pm Isam also informs us that the Bangladesh team will be wearing black arm-bands in memory of the late Kuntal Chandra, who who passed away earlier this week.

2.10 pm Here is a bit of sad news coming in from Mohammad Isam, Cricinfo's Bangladesh correspondent; the demand for tickets for this game has now had violent consequences. The BCB offices and the adjacent National Cricket Academy building have been vandalized, windows broken with pelts.

There are long lines outside the stadium 2 hours before the start of play, and there were thousands of people milling in and around the stadium on Tuesday evening in search of tickets.

This photo was tweeted by Richard McInnes at around 10 am this morning. McInnes is the head of the National Cricket Academy

2.00 pm, Toss West Indies have won the toss and will field first.

West Indies changes, Lendl Simmons and Andre Russell are out, Kieran Powell and V Permaul are in.

Bangladesh have made one change too, Rubel Hossain in, replacing Abul Hasan who is ruled out of the rest of the series with side strain.

1.57 pm To be frank, after what transpired in the Tests, it was difficult to envisage this kind of a scoreline going into this game, especially in the absence of Shakib al Hasan. But Bangladesh have been absolutely brilliant, led by their youngsters, Sohag Gazi and Anamul Haque. West Indies need to find some inspiration.

1.55 pm Two ODIs into the series and West Indies are on the cusp of an embarrassing series defeat at the hands of Bangladesh. Hello everyone and welcome to the third match of the five-game ODI series as we move to Dhaka for the rest of the games. I am Suneer Chowdhary and will bring you this game live...just minutes away from the toss

0.1

Rampaul to Tamim Iqbal, no run, on the length, a bit shorter if I may add and the batsman goes on to his back foot to defend, the ball barely comes on to the bat

0.2

Rampaul to Tamim Iqbal, no run, short of length but this one gives him some room outside the off stump and he stands up tall, punches it but straight to the cover fielder

0.3

Rampaul to Tamim Iqbal, no run, good length and quicker, bit of pace, back into the batsman and defended to mid-wicket

0.4

Rampaul to Tamim Iqbal, no run, bouncer and a quick one at that! short of length and he jumps out of harm's way does Tamim!

0.5

Rampaul to Tamim Iqbal, 1 run, short of length outside the off and punched to the off side, this time to the left of the cover fielder and they are off for the first run of the day

0.6

Rampaul to Anamul Haque, FOUR, down the legs and it is glanced away through fine-leg for a four, the fielder was up in the circle and the bowler failed to change his line for the right-hander

"Loved the caption of McInnes photo "Watch your team go 3-0 up on TV." This is what I shall be doing all the way from Malaysia sitting at my office desk. I really don't think I would mind risking getting fired. 22 years of following Bangladesh cricket, I have felt this much thrilled only once before - during the Asia Cup" The good news is that the Asia Cup final also happened this year, which could imply that they are getting a tad more consistent.

End of over 1 (5 runs) Bangladesh 5/0 (RR: 5.00)
Anamul Haque    4* (1b 1x4)      R Rampaul    1-0-5-0

1.4

Sammy to Tamim Iqbal, 1 run, short of length this time and Tamim is able to cut it away, not with full timing but enough to get him a single to the point fielder's right

Interestingly with all the fighting outside, it is still not a full house one over in.

2.1

Rampaul to Tamim Iqbal, no run, short of length and on the off stump, defended on the back foot

2.2

2.3

Rampaul to Tamim Iqbal, no run, on the back foot and defends that short of length ball again, a tad uncomfortably to the off side

2.4

3.6

Sammy to Anamul Haque, 1 run, short of length but no swing on that one, tucked away to short fine-leg for a single

End of over 4 (4 runs) Bangladesh 13/0 (RR: 3.25)

4.1

Rampaul to Anamul Haque, no run, short of length and he tries to cut but does not get the middle of the bat

4.2

Rampaul to Anamul Haque, 2 runs, short of length and he goes for the hook, it was almost brilliantly taken by Bravo running to his left from the fine-leg region, but he floors it! That was a shot brought about by frustration of not scoring any runs...

4.3

Rampaul to Anamul Haque, no run, short of length and defended on the back foot yet again

4.4

Rampaul to Anamul Haque, no run, length ball outside the off stump and he is waiting on his back foot to push to the off

4.5

Rampaul to Anamul Haque, no run, short of length, on the middle stump, pushed to mid-on

4.6

Rampaul to Anamul Haque, no run, off stump line and slightly fuller, defended to the off side, getting back into the groove of respecting Rampaul after that rush of blood

End of over 5 (2 runs) Bangladesh 15/0 (RR: 3.00)
Anamul Haque    10* (17b 1x4)      R Rampaul    3-0-10-0

5.2

Sammy to Anamul Haque, no run, gets his line and length back against the right-hander, beaten outside the off, swinging away from the bat

5.3

Sammy to Anamul Haque, 1 run, on his pads this time and he will be unhappy to have flicked it straight to fine-leg, only for a single

Zics: "I was inside the stadium when BD got all out 58 in last WC. I went to buy some KFC stuffs leaving them 3 wicket down and when I returned it was 8 down. Nothing could prevent my tears. I tried my level best to collect today's ticket all i could manage is the ticket of 4th ODI. All the best tigers. Make it 3-0. "

5.4

Sammy to Tamim Iqbal, 1 run, on his pads and tucked away to the deep square-leg region, bit of swing back into the batsman

5.5

Sammy to Anamul Haque, no run, shortens his length slightly to the right-hander and he is immediately on his back foot to flick it away but straight to the square-leg fielder

5.6

Sammy to Anamul Haque, no run, on the back foot and defended back to the bowler

End of over 6 (3 runs) Bangladesh 18/0 (RR: 3.00)

6.2

6.3

Rampaul to Tamim Iqbal, FOUR, outside the off and that is a sizzler! Punched through the covers, bisects the backward point and cover fielder to make it two in two!

6.4

Rampaul to Tamim Iqbal, 1 run, sort of length and this time Tamim has his feet flying everywhere trying to fend at that one, it reared up again. Gets bit of a bat and is able to push it to the off side for a quick single

Isam has this to say from the ground: "Marlon Samuels is hovering around Tamim Iqbal every delivery. These two have a history from the last time West Indies toured Bangladesh."

The two played for the Pune Warriors last IPL season. Well, Samuels played and Tamim waited for his chance.

Abir has an answer for me: "Can Bangladesh score 200?? It seems quite hard from this stage of game. Its clear that Pitch is playing for the spin bowlers. They still have a hope if they can score 200 unless the dew do not cause big problems to their dangerous spinners."

Rahman: "With the amount of turn on offer...I can't wait to see our spinners in action." The dew could be bit of an issue if it comes in early enough.

and this is interesting, he runs the whole length and does not release the ball, deliberately so, just to have a look at what the batsman was going to do. Umpire called it a no-ball too!

That could just be Pollard's last over this spell.

Orko will soon be applying for the post of Bangladesh's batting coach: "So BD made the same mistake they made the last game.. sending a very young Mominul in the most crunch part of the game. Sure he hit a few boundaries in the last game but he was quite slow to start of and put pressure on Anamul...Looks like he has talent but he is young and that showed by how he defended the first 3 ball of that over before hitting out on the 4th.. A better choice would have been Mahmudullah for this situation. He is the third most composed batsman (after mushfiq and shakib) in the team and bats too far down the order for my liking..."

Four wickets for 23 in seven overs for Narine. He still has three overs to bowl, could have had a couple of overs in the middle of that stand, don't you think?

Narine to Sohag Gazi, no run, flatter on the middle stump but Gazi is able to defend it on the back foot, and well

40.6

Narine to Sohag Gazi, FOUR, that is lot of turn but very well played there, he brings the bat down in an angle to counter the turn and play it away through the slips for a four

End of over 41 (5 runs) Bangladesh 183/7 (RR: 4.46)
Sohag Gazi    8* (11b 2x4)      SP Narine    8-0-28-4

Tahmid: "Batting powerplay has always being a mystery for BD players. The batsmen tend to mess up. So either they become over defensive or over attacking. End up losing wickets. They gotta work on that" To be fair to them, Batting PP has been a mystery to a lot of teams. It is a mystery to me why most of 'em start playing so radically different.

Long-term prediction time...Rimon: "I can tell you one thing, Bangladesh Team does not play well in pressure, today they have the pressure to win the series. So they collapsed. I think WI will make it 2-2 and in the last match. If Bangladesh drives away the pressure they can make it 3-2 for sure."

43.3

Arif: "Regarding Batting powerplay, I think ICC can bring a change that won't let the batsmen out there to realize that it is already started. they suddenly see it starting and want to do something different. Hiding it might work."

4:54 PM Oronno: "To Rimon: This game is not yet over. How do you say like WI already won the game? Did you had seen how WI played last 2 match against Bangladesh bowlers? 220 will be enough fighting score for Bangladesh I think."

Rayhan: "Is it Rimon or Paul.. i am confused with the name. Anyway i think there shouldn't be any day night match at this period of the year at Dhaka. The team that wins the toss get 75% chance of winning the match. The match is literally decided at the toss. Very Very clumsy decision of BCB.

More television audiences for a day-night game equates to more sponsorship money.

Masud: "It's probably the attitude of fans that transfers to the players and have restrained the team over the past decade. It is alright to have an ordinary day, Australia, South Africa they all have them. I am sure no one expected Bangladesh to wrap the series up in 3 games when we began. "

47.6

Sammy to Abdur Razzak, OUT, goes for another big slog, gets a top edge and it spoons up high in the air for the short cover to get under it and take a simple catch

Sohag Gazi c Gayle b Sammy 30 (42m 36b 5x4 0x6) SR: 83.33

End of the Bangladeshi innings for 227, a modest score after they had gotten themselves to 61/1. But then they were also 110/5 at one stage, which means that they will not be too disappointed by the score, the only thing to look at will be that much-spoken about dew. Will it upset the Bangladeshi spinners and if so, will the tourists be able to take advantage? Back in 35 with these thoughts:

Orko:"Well seeing as I am now "applying for the post of the BD batting coach "I must observe.. how different would this situation be if Sohag Gazi came out before Mashrafe and latter was now available for the last 4 overs? Gazi does have two first class centuries to support being sent out earlier..."

Rimon is very optimistic about his team's chances clearly: "@Oronno: I want BD team to be the winner of the series by 5-0. But it is not possible when I look back the records of Bangladesh against many teams in Mirpur.

@Rayhan: If toss can wins the match by 75%. So let us tell Rahim to practice Toss more than batting!" Probably the entire team was doing that before the game instead of batting today which is why some of them played those strokes.
